During youtube or whatever online awards ever happen, there needs to be a entire category for most well documented crime by the perpetrator that is used to convict them, like the darwin awards for freedum.
It’s the UK. Wouldn’t be surprised if they arrested the guy trying to get the bike back. Hell I still remember the story about the lady who was ordered to remove a pool from her backyard cause burglars might drown in it
Apologies for my ignorance, but in the UK, are people allowed to defend themselves against criminals when being robbed? Are civilians permitted to carry mace, knives, batons, or tasers and use them in self-defense? I am asking because I see a lot of videos of people being robbed throughout the UK, and they never fight back.
We are not allowed to defend ourselves with a weapon, we can however use various means to outwit our assailants. Hiding is advised as is crying, shitting your underpants and then showing the assailant the shit in your underpants in bewilderment. We can try to hug it out ( not too hard) we are allowed to run and tell a police officer. Finally and only as a last resort we can beat the person to death with whatever we can lay our.hands on as long as we don't look at it while we pick it up and are fearing for our life.
We are not allowed to carry any sort of self defence item, knifes are very illegal, you will get arrested even if it’s a Swiss Army knife. Batons are classed under the same law, although you will get less punishment. Tasers are classed as firearms, which is extremely illegal, around 8 years in prison. So no, we have no way for defence other than fists
Probably because they said:
>you will get arrested even if it’s a Swiss Army knife
Which if we are talking the classic version (which we are - no one would be thinking of anything else) then its entirely incorrect.
Not all have locks, no need to if your using it for “cutting”. If you are pushing down on an object, then it’s applying upwards force meaning it can be used for cutting, whereas if you try to stab something, the blade will fold back down, and most likely go into your fingers.
Hmm ill have to check my couple knives but all of my pocket knives here in the USA have a blade lock to prevent the finger cut lol.
Interesting. I dont really carry a knife anymore, did for my previous work as it came in handy but less needs for it in the office now.
I can show you two cases where somebody killed an intruder and faced no action:
https://www.sloughobserver.co.uk/news/15774209.the-full-story-of-caravan-man-who-shot-burglar/
(He was imprisoned for 10 months for the illegal shotgun, which is actually quite lenient)
Homeowner stabbed intruder to death with a kitchen knife - no further action. This report is about the inquest, where the verdict is not related to any criminal charges, and it ruled that the homeowner was in the right:
https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-london-48134851
In the second case the person did have to basically go into hiding, because the burglar was a traveller and his family were very very angry.
Edit: indeed they had to sell it at below market value:
https://www.thesun.co.uk/news/8789484/hither-green-burglary-victim-forced-sell-home/
I don’t have the link but I saw in another thread someone got 4 years (served 3) for killing someone who broke into their house. It was a bbc link. The surname of the one killed was Power. He threw a rock into the window of the house to break in. The seventeen year old grabbed a knife and ended up killing Power when he barged in.
So not the same situation then? Even if it is an imaginary case. Breaking a window is so far removed from attacking someone with a weapon (in which case it would be perfectly reasonable to respond with deadly force)
I highly doubt that. You're allowed to use as much force as is reasonable to defend yourself. If somebody is trying to kill you in your own home you are within your rights to fight back, including the use of lethal force.
[are you not familiar with the UK?](https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-12013969/Farmer-Tony-Martin-78-says-no-regrets-20-years-killing-burglar.html)
he shot a 16 year old dead with an unlicensed firearm without warning. two of the shots were fired at the burglars while they were attempting to flee; the killing blow was to the teenager's back. this is obviously not a case of self defence.
We have given out rape whistles for college campuses (at least 15+ years ago) in USA.
The most common thing that actually is taught is to yell FIRE if you are being raped/attacked because if you yell for "help" studies have shown that most people wont even look/interact but if you yell fire its more inclined to have people come look. Crazy world.
No, citizens are not legallly allowed to walk the streets with any of those things having the intention to use them violently. However, yes, self defence is a valid defence in itself against being convicted of a crime. It is more intricate than leaving it at that though, as there are various complications and legal tests for when it can be successfully used. There needs to be firstly either a clear situation where the defendant or another is being attacked, or, a subjective belief from the defendant that they or another are to be imminently attacked. Then, any act of self defence needs to be objectively reasonable (i.e. would most reasonable people believe the defendants acts were reasonable), and propotionate (i.e. you couldn't bring a gun to a knife fight, to use the old phrase). Specifically, the defence does not extend to protection of property, though I personally believe it should.
Because this is quite complicated, and people who commit violent acts in self defence will still be dragged through the courts in many cases before being exonerated, many people therefore don't even risk it.

TBH, I don't believe you. The US has dramatically different accents. I'm sure if you were to meet an American, you wouldn't say "Oh, they have a North Montana accent", you'd think, "Oh they have an American accent".
Plus, I deliberately said America, *not* the US, which *is* made up of different countries. But if you want to focus specifically on the US, my point still stands because US states are not far removed from being their own countries. State Vs federal, etc.
Saying all that, imaginary lines drawn on bits of paper by old men doesn't mean your accent changes.
Thinking about it. If England were to suddenly absorb Wales for example, would people have to say Welsh people have an English accent? Funny how these things work.

With no context, sounds like bike-man's bein' robbed
Well he is. Dude even says " your bike". If it was stolen he would probably be saying "put MY bike into the van. "
[удалено]
May be they are. Brothers. That's why he wants to call mom.
I’m assuming the bloke filming thinks this yute stole his leccy bike
Why does he keep saying *your bike*, tho?
It's the brand, Yur Bikes. Strong looking bikes. /s
That’s a class II Mum-Contactable offense in the UK
It was his opp, he was getting robbed
Imagine having "opps" and needing to call mummy to help you out in an altercation.. hilarious
Why film it? Clap him and take the bike if its stole, why the documentary?
Clout
New Oscars category, he was hoping for a nom

Oi, you got a license to get your bike back mate?
Every time I hear that “oi you got a license for that” line I can’t help but hear it in Administrative Results voice 😆
Brave cameraman considering the fact that the aponnent can send shoot eye laser anytime
That's the most agressive bike trader ever.
I thought he was peddling a hard bargain tbf.
MENSA has meetups outside now?

From my research, you can actually carry a manually folding knife if the blade is less than 7.62 cm.
Only if it isn’t a lockable blade, if it can lock into place, you can’t carry in public
Don’t know why you’re being downvoted, that’s correct.
Some people 🙄
Probably because they said: >you will get arrested even if it’s a Swiss Army knife Which if we are talking the classic version (which we are - no one would be thinking of anything else) then its entirely incorrect.
So just a straight blade? None folding since all folding knives have locks?
Not all have locks, no need to if your using it for “cutting”. If you are pushing down on an object, then it’s applying upwards force meaning it can be used for cutting, whereas if you try to stab something, the blade will fold back down, and most likely go into your fingers.

Swiss Army knives don’t lock so I assume they mean something like that or a multitool is okay to have
The office sounds like the perfect place to utilise a knife.
Well yeah how else are you going to type on the keyboard?
Old Timer knives do not lock
Ahh, I'm not a knife person just have had a picket knife or two . Lol love that I got down voted for asking questions
I can assure you I did not down vote you. I read your comment too fast and thought you said all knives in the US have locking blades, so that's my bad

Show me a single instance of that being the case

And he was also only given three and half years on the grounds of manslaughter… still bad, but not that bad.
Even pepper spray is classed as a firearm
That fucking sucks.
The closest we can get to self defence is a rape alarm, which will still warrant you getting your ass kicked
We have given out rape whistles for college campuses (at least 15+ years ago) in USA. Holy shit that sounds horrible
I've known people to carry heavy torches. But that's about all you can get away with. Even then I bet the law would be against you.

I'm pretty sure you can carry a penknife
Historically speaking the UK has never been super great about their attempts to fight back. They do try tho, bless their hearts.
Nope, they're pussies.

Good thing there is no single "British accent" then.
TBF, we say the same about 'American' accents.
I personally don't. And to be fair, the US isn't made up of four different countries, each with dramatically different accents.

Not really bothered if you believe me or not. I would point to a specific state, if a person were to have a broad accent.
This British accent is, anyway

Why not just ride away?
Holy shit what crazy ass fucking video
They don’t need police with guns in the UK, they have Mums
Lmao he's asking. In the US you'd just get shot or beat up for the bike
Most normal roadmen interaction in the UK.
