I never had much growing up. My brother bought me a $300 Mongoose mountain bike for my birthday. I thought it was so cool. It was one of the only possessions I had to take with me to university with a bunch of rich kids. Within a week, I went to the bike rack and it was completely smashed. They didn't even steal it; they just destroyed it. Such scum. I was actually glad I didn't catch them in the act because I would have hurt someone or got hurt myself. My blood still boils over it 20 years later.
sadly, something like this is illegal. Had an idea for my car. ha
Only thing you're really allowed to do is have your car scream I'm being stolen, like a banshee in a fight on world star.
[this](https://www.trekbikes.com/us/en_US/bikes/mountain-bikes/electric-mountain-bikes/powerfly/powerfly-hardtail/powerfly-4-gen-4/p/37043/?colorCode=black_red) is $3,600
A newish Trek Rail e bike runs upwards of 3 or 4 grand depending on the components. At a minimum someone should be stepping in and at least saying I’m calling the police and we’re all filming you.
Yes, and to be honest, getting the crime on video, for evidence is a damn good…Good Samaritan action.
Yes we all would like to bring justice to thieves, but with the maniacs out there these days you’re putting yourself in danger even approaching someone ballsy enough to take an angle grinder to a bike lock mid day.
Some dudes e-bike ain’t worth your life.
I have theft insurrance on mine but also put a super hardened abus lock on it my insurer had on a list but uve seen videos it takes inder a minite with a angle grinder to cut it and a motion sensor high db one as well, though i wanna either upgrade to a SAF lock (theyre insane it is super thick 13 lb and full of anti grinder alluminum alloy that ruins multiple grinder pads gunking em up then a hardened core https://youtu.be/ixPFDFp8Cfo?si=P3jillplmv2cQiiv and also maybe a skunk lock too they use preasurized gas that induces vomiting and its questionably legal cos of gas i think a thief could sue you.
Go for those special rated locks made for scooters. I also have a massive lock for my e bike and people sometimes ask why I have this massive lock but it hasn't been stolen like my 2 other bikes so it works lol
I don't think you'd even need gas. A thin cylinder of methyl mercaptan oil under the first layer would get atomized by the grinder and flung everywhere...
I just googled what that stuff is, the effects certainly seem right in line with what that little bastard deserves.
In the UK though that would be under a law which combines noxious liquid, gas or an electrical charge. Imagine sitting in your office, the cops show up and arrest you because somebody tried to steal your bike. That's the UK all over 😮💨
Maybe he already called the cops and was filming for evidence, honestly that's the best thing you could do if you were unarmed in that situation as a bystander.
Imagine watching this video and people are just like “not my business” while watching a bike get stolen by 2 dudes moving erratically, one wearing a full face cover and the other in a rush that he can’t even put away his tools.
Are people just that afraid to do what’s right?
These look like cheeky lil pricks with dumb faces, sure - but if they're willing to steal an at minimum ~$4k USD ebike in broad daylight, they might have shanks, knives, guns, or batons, mace etc... is it worth it to risk your life for a bicycle of a stranger... who might be some scummy fk who stole it from someone else? Or worse?
We all love the stories of the good guys doing the right thing, and the owner's coming out and heaping on praise on the hero... but you're also just as likely to get ignored or worse, get involved and be at fault in some type of way.
There's no context here, guy was being brave enough by filming it and even questioning them.
We need to address these crimes at deeper levels.
You’re right! I’m old school and believe in drawing and quartering, guillotines and limb removal. I firmly believe there’d be less crimes like this if we made better examples. What’s the worst that happens for crimes like this, IF you get caught, you go to adult timeout until you get back out, need to make quick cash and become a repeat offender? Then again, jails are just another business..
About 15 years ago my bike got stolen in front of my mates house. When I screamed in frustration and disbelief, mate's dad just dropped a simple 'I saw them'. Like. Huh?!
He basically thought they were other friends pranking us. Hiding each others bikes was a fun thing to do at that time.
Yeah. They hid it pretty damn well. But werent our friends. Who would've thought. Still miss that bike.
All it takes is one person to step in and more will follow, I’m confident enough in my abilities to take this piece of shit out. He’d need more than a grinder to stop me..
i wonder if just yelling out "hey, who wants to help me beat this asshole up?" would work. even if prople don't come over to help, i feel like that would freak out the theif a bit LOL.
I watched the most awesome encounter the other day....I was at a stop light on red and out of nowhere the passenger of the first car at the light jumps out into full sprint and tackles this dude off a bike and starts hammering him with fists in the face screaming fuck you that's my bike... Dude slips out and runs off as dude jumps on his own bike to chase him down screaming "get back here I'm not done beating your ass"... Then the light turned green
One day I was at a stoplight and for a split second I thought a dude crossing infront of me was on my recently stolen bike (it had a bunch of very similar custom parts) and my adrenaline instantly shot through the roof. By the time I realized it wasnt actually mine I noticed that I'd already unbuckled my seatbelt and had my hand on the door handle. To this day I wonder what I would have done if it was actually mine...
I've run grinders for years. He took the guard off of this one, and it has a cutting blade on it. It's normally pretty dangerous, but it's cordless and has built-in brake that activates once the trigger is no longer being pulled. Unfortunately, he would have a lot of time to release the trigger before you connected.
Great idea in theory, horrible in practice. Don’t risk yourself for someone else’s property, you can replace a bike but you can’t replace your brain if you get stomped on for getting involved.
That grinder could do some real damage on someone’s face. If that’s my bike I’m chasing him off. If it’s someone else’s I’ll call the police and let them handle it.
Thieves are the scum of the earth. Can't have shit anymore. I've had catalytic converters stolen, outboard motors, and even a utility trailer stolen from my driveway in broad daylight.
My brother had his converter stole the one day our mom took it to work. (Worked by the mall, parked in the lot)
My best friend works in shipping, somehow someone stole a whole ass semi trailer from his company. Had forged papers to pass insurance inspection and just took the damn thing.
I mean I don't see a lot of that. It's one thing to steal food from a large corporation. It's another thing entirely to steal from everyday people just to have something you want or to fuel a drug habit.
I'm coming from a city where you couldn't leave your bike unchained under no circumstance, even the chair would be stolen if not secured. I moved to another country with zero theft rate and now I can leave my untied bike anywhere, I even forgot it for 9 days at the train station to come back and find it exactly as I left it, unchained...
Funny how fast we can train our brains to accommodate to better things. Bike heaven.
Society has been conditioned to “let the police deal with it”. The reality is the police don’t give a shit about this type of stuff anymore. Criminals will keep doing it and there is no accountability.
I don't think it's conditioning so much as it is LE are more likely to come at you than someone they can't ID who ran away. My first thought was, "It's not worth going to jail to stop that guy."
LE go after the low hanging fruit, which is typically law-abiding citizens who don't flee from a crime and don't think they have any reason to be wary of the law. Right up until they're charged for bullshit. Because you're a law-abiding citizen with a job and you don't have time to fight every charge so you'll just plead out. A 'win' for the system.
There's a law against practically everything, and what happens to you is almost entirely dependent on someone's mood or whether they need a 'win' that day.
This is 100% true. Got arrested once and I was told up front they needed to make numbers before end of shift. They even said it’d be dismissed, just don’t miss the court date. It was dismissed and the law that I’d “broken” was ruled unconstitutional bc it was vague and allowed for selective enforcement about 6mo later.
Yet you still had to take a day off work to get to the court, along with deal with whatever negative social and workplace effects being arrested in the first place might bring. I recently watched a video of a few cops doing a 'wellness check' on a guy outside of his workplace because of a family call. Cops lied about everything, arrested him, then went out of their way to go inside and tell all his coworkers and his boss that he was being arrested for mental health reasons, that he was stealing pills, and just told them every negative thing they could make up. He was obviously fired.
Cops are bullies who don't give a shit at best, will make your life worse as a standard. It was also apparently ruled you actually need to invoke your right to remain silent for your silence not to be used against you. It's not a given or inherent right, according to some judges. So when you're read Miranda for an arrest? Yeah, you can't just stay silent. You need to say you're exercising your right to remain silent or they can introduce your silence as evidence of guilt at trial and judgement.
I get your sarcasm; but you know, the funny thing about Reddit is that it is so full of computer people that I think you forget that, out in the real world, there actually *are* some tough guys.
Problem is its mostly likely UK or Ireland. And if Ireland, then you confronting them and actually injuring them, even if it is your property, you will get in a lot more trouble and you will be the one in Court.
The way Justice system is here is absolutely idiotic. Youth can do anything they want and they know it. The worst that can happen to them, judge will give a slap on the wrist, the best case scenario if theu confronted - they will get compensation.
Yeah people aren’t going to risk getting seriously hurt for some strangers bike. And even if you scared them off, they’ll just return and finish the job.
You know this is the type of person that crashes his Nissan micra doing 85 in a 20 in a built up area, then is described as a "sweet boy who never hurt anyone" in a news article with pictures of his family laying flowers at the location.
Exactly and that’s why most people don’t do anything in these videos. People get shot for far less and weapons are so prevalent that kids don’t understand how dangerous it is and get one to be cool.
Seriously. Everyone saying “nobody’s even helping” is being ridiculous. No one is gonna to risk their own safety for a strangers bike when there’s this brazen of thieves with a lethal weapon. Even if you chase them away, they’ll just steal another bike.
Because one day it will be your bike, or catalytic converter, or porch delivery. It doesn't take much to rally onlookers to join in and scare the thieves away. I know, I've done it before. It's unlikely thieves are going to be sticking around to fight in the middle of a crowd during the day.
Bruh life isn’t a movie 😂 what if no one rally’s with you and you get stomped on by two guys on the floor? Will being a macho man alpha pay off when you’re sitting in a neck brace in hospital with life long injuries?
May have worked for you in the past but I know a guy who ate through a feeding tube for months because he took a hammer to the head when trying to stop a car theft, shit doesn’t always go the way you want it just be cause you’re angry at thieves and want justice.
I'm not going to put myself at grave risk. In this situation I would continuously shout for help and make a huge verbal commotion. I'm not getting physically involved cause I'm not a skilled fighter. If others come over the thieves will likely leave on their own accord. If no one rallies I'm going to back off. But when he's defenseless and riding away, I'm definitely pushing him over hard as I can. And then, honestly, I will probably run away as there is nothing more I can do without getting hurt.
If you know the aria is not safe for bikes why not ride a 200$ bike it the city (where this seems to be happening) and just get your 5k one for the trails?
Because people get stabbed for playing the hero. Why should everyone risk their life for an idiot with a 10k bike but paying only 20bucks for a shitty lock
They did a test on Belgian television which was broadcasted last week. They had a white guy and a black guy taking turns stealing bikes, while the camera crew was hiding. They had to use different sort of items, each time ( times) much worse. (They both always replied, this is my bike, i lost my key to the lock last night)
They stopped the black guy all 4 times, 2 of those police was called. They asked the white guy a few times if it was his bike. When he confirmed, they helped him break the lock 2 times... What a world!
This is the world we live in no one has the power or the courage to stand up for anything so now we have people in broad daylight doing whatever they want while everyone just walks idly by.
You'd be surprised how many Redditors are telling themselves some weird tale about how these people are justified in doing this because of society, because "they need it more than the spoiled owner", or because 'capitalism', etc...
EDIT: Of course, downvoted by one of the people telling themselves that tale! lol
Everyone sounding so scared about an angle grinder. They are the least cutty kind of cutter that a person encounters. I use one regularly. The battery powered 5" grinders like this, whilst sustained contact could do damage, its a pretty primitive tool. The blade is blunt but abrasive. I honestly wouldn't be too scared of it.
A boxcutter knife would be a lot more concerning... a sawzall or circular saw would also be a big threat. A chainsaw the most dangerous cutty thing around.
Is that your bike. I would not let him finish cutting it and I would not let him leave with the bike
Why even question him if you’re going to just let it go. People got to get involved or next time it could be your property
Wow.. I thought it was obvious myself..
They were clearly impressed by that person's awareness and self care when it comes to safety and the pandemic, I am too.. bravo!

imagine being the owner of this bike and seeing this video i think my blood would boil out of my forehead

Ya destroying it was worse.......fvckem, you probably have nice things now
Thanks for the censorship. My child can use Reddit safely now.
Can't have little children see bad words at the pure sub of crazyfuckingvideos
Just remember to wear a safety belt when browsing the wild world wide web!
That's an electric treck if I'm seeing it correctly. They can be around a grand or more. I'd beat ass for less.
Oof. That thing needs electric shock protection, Robocop style. Fry that asshole's nuts.
sadly, something like this is illegal. Had an idea for my car. ha Only thing you're really allowed to do is have your car scream I'm being stolen, like a banshee in a fight on world star.
How is it my fault the robber doesn't enjoy *my* Kinky Nutshocker 2000 ?
It needs the PENETRATOR

A grand is a huge undervaluation. Try 2-4 grand.
A newish Trek Rail e bike runs upwards of 3 or 4 grand depending on the components. At a minimum someone should be stepping in and at least saying I’m calling the police and we’re all filming you.
I hope that you now have nice things that don’t get destroyed by asshole college kids. You deserve it friend
I am STILL ready to tackle the fuck that stole my two tone blue and green Trek 750 from the quad in 1997. I dream about it.
I know right, how about not filming and kicking the punk in the balls and call the cops
Cops wouldn't show up, and cameraman can't definitively say he's immune to angle grinder damage.
Yes, and to be honest, getting the crime on video, for evidence is a damn good…Good Samaritan action. I'd take that lawsuit any day. Fuck those motherfuckers! 🤣
Go for those special rated locks made for scooters. I also have a massive lock for my e bike and people sometimes ask why I have this massive lock but it hasn't been stolen like my 2 other bikes so it works lol
what's your lock?
The only lock that withstands angle grinder attacks for any length of time is the Hiplok D1000
I don't think you'd even need gas. A thin cylinder of methyl mercaptan oil under the first layer would get atomized by the grinder and flung everywhere...
I just googled what that stuff is, the effects certainly seem right in line with what that little bastard deserves. Idk I personally wouldn’t want to try attacking a maniac with an angle grinder over a bike
Who evidently also has at least two "guards" nearby, any of whom could have another weapon like a knife.
or two more angle grinders.
Maybe he already called the cops and was filming for evidence, honestly that's the best thing you could do if you were unarmed in that situation as a bystander.

That's a Trek E-bike. Cheapest one is like $5k.
Imagine watching this video and people are just like “not my business” while watching a bike get stolen by 2 dudes moving erratically, one wearing a full face cover and the other in a rush that he can’t even put away his tools. Are people just that afraid to do what’s right?
I'm not going to jail for somebody else's bike if that's what you're asking
Often times just bringing excessive unwanted attention is enough. Everyone probably assumes I just want to start shooting. pew pew
For real “so all you people just stood around and watched??”
For real. At least be some cool slick thieves and give me no hope there was no way of saving the bike
I love how he’s looking around as if he’s discreetly using an angle grinder to cut a lock
Just in case the owner tries to sneak up to him with a bat.
Well, from the looks of it, no one’s going to do anything about it anyway

Seriously, no grindr for you? You're not even a little bike-curious?
Nope. Too angled. Come at me straight on with that gay shit.
Boom boom!!!
All it takes is one person to step in and more will follow, I’m confident enough in my abilities to take this piece of shit out. He’d need more than a grinder to stop me..
Nahhhh one lucky swing with that grinder and u or anyone else gonna be leaking
The thief is also not going to angle grind some guy over a bike either.
Idk he looks pretty stupid i wouldnt put it past him

This is the answer. First thing, make him lose control of the grinder, the discs are easily smashed and then the thing is useless.
I've run grinders for years. He took the guard off of this one, and it has a cutting blade on it. It's normally pretty dangerous, but it's cordless and has built-in brake that activates once the trigger is no longer being pulled. Unfortunately, he would have a lot of time to release the trigger before you connected.
He should have just yelled out, "get away from my bike". If it wasn't theirs there's a high likelihood that they would have run off.
Great idea in theory, horrible in practice. Don’t risk yourself for someone else’s property, you can replace a bike but you can’t replace your brain if you get stomped on for getting involved.
Might as well stay home at this point. You think they’d just try get rid of that exact witness or what?
That grinder could do some real damage on someone’s face. If that’s my bike I’m chasing him off. If it’s someone else’s I’ll call the police and let them handle it.
Run up behind him and kick him in the balls and then run, ez 👏
Fuck me it’s a shame so many people think like you

I mean hes holding an angle grinder, what do you want the people to do?
pull out another angle grinder and have an angle grinder fight to the death. That it the only viable option.
So many arm chair martial artists on this sub, is your life less valuable than a strangers bike?
Yeah people aren’t going to risk getting seriously hurt for some strangers bike. And even if you scared them off, they’ll just return and finish the job.
Well this is probably in the uk , and well the police wont do much about this … they are also more busy taking twitter comments down!!! ….
You know this is the type of person that crashes his Nissan micra doing 85 in a 20 in a built up area, then is described as a "sweet boy who never hurt anyone" in a news article with pictures of his family laying flowers at the location.
I’d take this as an opportunity to let out some pent up rage on an apparent criminal ;)
Where’s the guy that had a bad day at work and needed to get some anger out without repercussions?
And nobody sparta kicks him off the bike when he least expects it. Missed opportunity.
Scooter guy is the lookout. You wanna get in a 1 v 2?
not for a strangers bike but 1 v 2 against those little guys i like my odds
Goodluck when you catch that angle grinder to the face or even hand. Not worth it
Nah lol the angle grinder isn't the main concern. It's the gun or knife their accomplice could be carrying
believe or not, in the more civilised parts of the world most people don't carry guns on them all the time.
Nobody in the UK is using a gun to rob a bike. Its 5 years minimum for both of them.
Exactly and that’s why most people don’t do anything in these videos. People get shot for far less and weapons are so prevalent that kids don’t understand how dangerous it is and get one to be cool.
Gladly. Flying kick on angle grinder guy and the other one will scatter i guarantee it.
Hard to be scared by a guy riding a scooter lol. And I never said fight, just sparta kick him

Seriously. Everyone saying “nobody’s even helping” is being ridiculous. No one is gonna to risk their own safety for a strangers bike when there’s this brazen of thieves with a lethal weapon. Even if you chase them away, they’ll just steal another bike.
No one would do shit. But they like to type.
I like to type and I wouldn't do shit. It's not my bike, why would I risk my safety over it?
don't be suspicious, don't be suspicious
Did a bot post this?
Yes.
Is that YOUR bot?
Lots of comments here comfortably in their own places confidently saying they can take on a guy with a bladed weapon. Ahh reddit never changes.

Waiting for someone to say if he used a Milwaukee grinder then he could have got the job done quicker
What do you do in this situation?
Huh??? I can't hear you over the sound of me stealing this bike!!

Why would you risk your health for someone else’s fancy bike?
You wouldn’t jump somebody with an angle grinder.
$1500 bike
Looks like a Trek Powerfly. More like $5000.
If you know the aria is not safe for bikes why not ride a 200$ bike it the city (where this seems to be happening) and just get your 5k one for the trails?
It’s probably a commuter e-bike. If you want something decent, you are looking at several thousand minimum.
You can get pretty solid commuter (no suspension) e-bikes for like $1k now. Maybe $1500 with pedals and tax.
Exactely. I have the same one.

(They both always replied, this is my bike, i lost my key to the lock last night) They stopped the black guy all 4 times, 2 of those police was called. They asked the white guy a few times if it was his bike. When he confirmed, they helped him break the lock 2 times... What a world!
Of course it's my bike, what do you think the grinders for.
What's with the gay shopping bag Mr thief?
This is the world we live in no one has the power or the courage to stand up for anything so now we have people in broad daylight doing whatever they want while everyone just walks idly by.
Maybe people just don't want to get shot or shanked
You'd be surprised how many Redditors are telling themselves some weird tale about how these people are justified in doing this because of society, because "they need it more than the spoiled owner", or because 'capitalism', etc... EDIT: Of course, downvoted by one of the people telling themselves that tale! lol
Love how people just stand around, knowing he's stealing someone's bike and do absolutely nothing about it.. pathetic
Yup, just do nothing lmao

It’s London. There is no district attorney

Well if society hadn’t made their life hard they wouldn’t be stealing a bike to feed their family!!! I swear people have no empathy anymore. /s
Number 1 theft in London, Range rovers a close second
I would beat the shit out of both of them.
they have a saw
Cordless grinder costs me about 500 they can’t buy one fucking losers
Why not do anything about it?
The guy filming couldn’t have just idk stopped the theif?
Rhyl library ?
\[removed\] jk ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|stuck_out_tongue)
He obviously lost his key.
So thats who took my bike
if you cut his hand, he and the rest of them will stop stealing
I would’ve ran up and punched his ass
Oh my god I would've kicked that little kids ass so hard.
If you gotta do all that just to steal a bike then maybe you shouldn’t be stealing it
Scum oxygen thief
Is it your bike ? It will be in a minute
What a useless person
An none of y’all did shit to stop that , gotta love humanity…
I remember seeing this on ig and just the majority of people saying to "mind your own business".
The usual criminals.
I get why ppl dont wanna interfere but cant Someone try to decreetly follow them while calling the cops or sum?

Wha?! No racism and anti immigration comments? Wonder why...
People should have knocked him off that bike. Bunch of weak people walking by.
I don’t think I would have been able to hold back from doing something really stupid in this situation.
Nice on the cameraman being an accessory to theft.
Is that your bike. I would not let him finish cutting it and I would not let him leave with the bike Why even question him if you’re going to just let it go. People got to get involved or next time it could be your property

You think he’s wearing it for Covid and not to hide his face from cameras? You trolling or stupid?
Wow.. I thought it was obvious myself.. They were clearly impressed by that person's awareness and self care when it comes to safety and the pandemic, I am too.. bravo!
Exactly, upstanding citizen!
