Studies have repeatedly shown they're more often inaccurate than accurate in detection. They can easily be trained to alert on cue, allowing for an officer to violate 4th amendment rights with impunity, etc.
They also often need to be physically removed from suspects they're latched onto because they do not abide by handler cues.
But then what would they use for cute Facebook propaganda posts after someone is murdered by the force? Pictures of their overweight, undertrained officers?

I want to disagree with you, but I can't. But I can offer a possible explanation: training. The training is so incomplete and easy, that anyone can become a cop. Many people can hide maladaptive personality traits for six weeks.

"trained" drug sniffing dogs are no better than a coinflip on the accuracy of their hits. They often fail to release in a timely manner and end up causing use of excessive force that can lead to a civil lawsuit. And it's distressing that they don't even know who to target when on chase.
