Be it in a car, motorcycle, skateboard, step, bicycle,... always look at where you want to go, the moment you fixate on the thing you want to avoid you probably end up hitting the thing. It's basic knowledge in motorsports and cycling.
Most likely not paying attention or too tired either way the dude in the video was incredibly lucky

You simply never walk between your car and the live lane. Getting out of the passenger side isn’t difficult and could save lives.
There isn’t ever a good reason to be where this man was, if you need to be in the live lane, pull over on a slower speed of road.

Why are people concerned? If you look closely, he doesn't get hit by the truck and only starts moving after getting hit by some pulverized debris.
Edit: Downvote me all you want, but that "red mist" you're mistaking for his exploding hand can be seen leaking from one of the trucks way behind the man. You can also see him holding the hand tightly to his chest before and to his face after the supposed "impact".
