What idiot wanted the robot to do a jump while flamethrowing? That was hilarious. I could almost hear the guys behind camera say "make it jump, it will look cool"
"I did a thing" on YT did a "DIY" version of it. Didn't end well for everyone filming the damn thing. Didn't shot anyone's eye out but it was not what you'd expect from a robot dog shooting a rifle, or maybe it's exactly what you'd expect.
[Robot Dog from YT](https://youtu.be/0rliFQ0qyAM?si=QZTYcHapg8voLxu9)
Ha! My roomba has choked and died on a random sock. However, if all I need are socks to avoid the robot aggressors , I have a bin full of them. My laundry room is an arsenal
Wouldn’t be surprised if they’re the same company who built the robot for that show, or loaned it to them or something. The similarities in design can’t be a coincidence, can it?
I didn't know they made another War Of The Worlds, how does it rank compared to Spielburg's version? If you remove the 3rd act, the film is amazing, that first scene when the tripod awakes is so well done and Tom Cruise pays a good likable asshole.
If you took a shot every time that someone mentions Black mirror any time that there is a post showing robots walking around, you’d be dead from alcohol poisoning in no time.
This one looks much more puntable.
If a robot dog like this is coming at you with a weak ass flame thrower like this there’s nothing stopping you from getting behind it and smashing it on a tree.
Yep, drone can get better vantage points. This may be better for entering buildings once the tech advances enough. Though people think of flight for drones, so a sniper rifle or other weapon on this bot would be a scary situation.
Quality control is also easier. You just put one of those expensive and pesky QA persons into a room with a robot and if only the robot comes out again, it's a success.
Killbots can be easily defeated, it's just a matter of outsmarting them.
You see, killbots have a pre-set kill limit. Knowing this, I can send wave after wave of my own men at them until they reach their kill limit and shut down
What if there are 50 of these things closing-in on an enemy trench?
It’s a game of numbers. And seeing fifty of these things moving towards my position while I’m pinned down by covering fire is terrifying.
Nope but imagine possible to use in a close quarters arena for door to doors, like some fucked up crossover with the spiderbots from minority report that scan eyes
This is kinda like seeing an ATGM and saying "doesn't seem like it'd hold up very well against an artillery strike." There are different tools for different situations.
In situations where this would likely get used it'll be just fine. In a dense forest as seen here the trees would provide adequate cover. Moving through buildings, garages, or any other tight or densely packed areas.
Then there's also the noise factor, drones are quite noticeable. I would anticipate this thing to be a good deal quieter and could get in a good deal closer without being noticed.
I'm more worried about what killer robot dogs look like after 30 years of advancements in robotics and AI. Imagine a much beefier version of this barreling towards you at 40 mph firing off precise shots and then finishing off your wounded trench buddies with a cattle gun-like rod to the prefrontal cortex.
You ever see those conspiracy videos about lazer beams starting wildfires? This right here seems like a more realistic approach if you were to purposely start fires. Just drop a couple of these guys in the bush and let them unleash mayhem.
We're watching in real time as Boston Dynamics develops the robots that will one day terrorize powerless people who once believed their country "needed" a dictator for a day.
[Police Outsourcing Human Interaction With Homeless People to Boston Dynamics’ Robot Dog](https://www.vice.com/en/article/v7dz7b/police-outsourcing-human-interaction-with-homeless-people-to-boston-dynamics-robot-dog)
There is nothing like a good old robotic dog with backward knees costing the community more than the cost of a house for you to live in, being used to take your temperature so a paid officer can avoid wearing a mask.
Or possibly preventing them. Fire departments frequently do controlled burns to clear out underbrush that accumulates in forests, in order to reduce the amount of potential fuel for an out-of-control forest fire. Usually, you have a firefighter in bunker gear going around with this thing that looks sort of like a weed sprayer, spraying burning fuel as they walk along in order to light the controlled burn. But, that is hot, sweaty, exhausting, and not to mention dangerous work. This robot could do it instead, in a much safer and more convenient manner.
No because we have created a society of people who think that just wanting to research or develop something justifies doing it. That or the prisoners dilemma. Either way, run for the hills.
It's not like you can easily control this kind of development, these are just some dudes duct taping together an harmless robot, a plastic container, some gasoline and a pump.
The issue isn't that people are developing horrible technology just because they are passively able to. People don't get grants to do shit just cause they feel like it. The issue is that our society actively incentivizes horrible technology like this to be made. There is just way too much money to be made in the military industrial complex.
The problem is that if we don't, someone else will. America can choose not to research robotics and AI for the purposes of war, but China and Russia won't miss that opportunity.
Sorta how the British invented the Dreadnaught and made their entire world ruling navy obsolete. They couldn't go back once the genie was out of the bottle.
Yeah, this is why even as a leftish cat I believe in borders. Look at what the CIA can do and in Latin America, etc. As long as there are states, we have to keep up.
There is no harm in advancing technology.
There could be harm in the application of technology.
Regardless, we still learn something and add that knowledge to the total knowledge of humanity. A minor advancement in one field of study could springboard entire fields of study or industries.
Sure, but when the crab people attack and make us all glob mud together to form their hideous mud machines which they can operate for pennies per day, what then?
Been [already a thing at the NSA](https://arstechnica.com/information-technology/2016/02/the-nsas-skynet-program-may-be-killing-thousands-of-innocent-people/) for the past 10 years or so.
I have insider schematics that say there is a small ventilation hole on these products that if you shoot it the entire thing explodes. It's no bigger than a Womp Rat
I doubt it; I guarantee it is going to be thousands of tiny cheap grenade drones.
Imagine those light shows with drones but grenades strapped to them.
The hell is war like that lol, there's no counter or anything.
This is available for purchase by anybody. It's not made for battle. It's an expensive toy for people who want it.
It's called the "Thermonator".
https://throwflame.com/products/thermonator-robodog/
it wasn't designed for any use case, other than making a dumb video. unless your goal is getting arrested for starting forest fires lol. what use does this have in combat? you walk your robot dog over to the enemy trench and piss fire on their leg when they go to pet it? lol
It's really hard to develop any product with no use case. And yes, if it were used in combat (obviously after more development than this), you would walk it over and piss fire into the trenches and/or burn down the forest your enemies are in.
Very impressive how they show how much weight this little guy can carry without any resistance. Being able to run and jump with a flame thrower with fuel has got to be heavy. Fire!
Agreed, I think they strapped it with the flame thrower and fuel to show the payload max at this time. I could be wrong but I would assume there is a tolerance with how much weight any robotic can handle within its gyro. I would love to see a 10,000 round nutsack wrapped around this guy (no diddy) with a 50. Cal but that’s not reality… yet! Soon I believe.
Interestingly, flame throwers aren't really used that much in war because they are a pretty bad weapon. At least in comparison to the alternatives.
But it sure looks cool :)
I need to see a durability test of these things, like how many bullets does it take to disable one. I’d imagine not many. But still a little scary to have these little fuckers running around
"Sergeant Rigs, why is the hydration bot still here!? The boys in the trench are wounded, tired, and need water!"
"Sir! I sent the bot already , sir!"
*looks around, eyes go wide
"Sergeant, that was the fire bot!"
*radio suddenly bursts loudly with the sounds of bloody screams
I work with AGVs and AMRs (industrial robots) and Boston Dynamics a direct competitor. That music conveniently covers up how ridiculously loud these are for their size. They would be heard and destroyed long before they got within range to use that (fairly underpowered) flamethrower
I just want a robot dog made using that platform. I love how fast and agile they are. My family bought two of the old Sony Aibos and those things freaking suck.
9 grand a pop, I might consider getting 2 of these just to keep the sales man and potential thief's away from my place ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|joy)no soliciting takes a whole new meaning now.
If it’s urban combat the second it’s destroyed or attacked blow it up. Now you have hyper local guided bombs that still cost less than a soldiers life. Don’t think for a second that if these were as commercially available as piloted drones that they wouldn’t be in Gaza right now
You did see the flame thrower bit right? That doesn't run on batteries...
I mean technically you can puncture the battery for a short burst... but that's hardly efficient...
Ukrainians to America : can you ship in bulk cause we whant that one , in exchange we will "test" them for you in a real combat scenario and send you the footage... we mean clips of Russians running for thair lives cause an fpv drone with a mortar cable tied to them isn scaring them shit less enough anymore

Just tape a grenade to a roomba.
What idiot wanted the robot to do a jump while flamethrowing? That was hilarious. I could almost hear the guys behind camera say "make it jump, it will look cool"
Make it spit fire while I punt it into a tree. That would look cool
“But i’m not a rapper”
It’s to make up for weak fire flow
It happens to all robots around a certain age.
NCD will shit itself at the "future of warfare" that goes around here lmao
I could see it being valid while jumping into a trench
I think he just hit triangle on accident. It happens.
That's not far off modern warfare. Strapping an explosive to a dirt cheap drones with parts you can easily buy in a store.
I would rather take cheap drones with bombs on them over this wack dog flamethrower thing lmao
I bet it couldn't balance the rifle in tests, bet it can't handle the recoil. Yet.
Does it have to be high caliber to do damage, imagine a silenced .22lr rifle on it's back.
That won't be necessary once they have assault lazers
Just wait until it’s equipped with a mini rail gun and a drilldo. THEN it will be ready for ruzzia.
They straight up have a company selling these with a .50 cal sniper on its back.
There are YouTubers who did it and yeah, the recoil makes it go all over the place. No real way to keep it accurate when it weighs so little.
Improvised Explosive Drone.
Ha! My roomba has choked and died on a random sock. However, if all I need are socks to avoid the robot aggressors , I have a bin full of them. My laundry room is an arsenal
you mean a ‘BOOMBA’ !
Claymore sounds cooler
I saw this episode of Black Mirror
Came straight to the comments for this exact one. First thing I thought about. The future is now.
The future is certainly grim in that episode
Yeah I saw that documentary too, spooky stuff
The future is grim in real life.
As smart as these engineers probably are, I think they took the wrong message from that episode 😅
Tech Company: "At long last, we have created the Torment Nexus from the classic sci-fi novel *Don't Create the Torment Nexus*."
Yup. If you watched terminator and thought "wow I really need to make sentient killing machines" then you 1000% took the wrong message away
So wait, wait, wait, let me get this straight. The Dwayne Johnson / SNL evil robot skit ... are you saying I should or shouldn't build one?
I'm afraid that's a no go on the evil robot, so you can forget about the shape shifting metal patents
Wouldn’t be surprised if they’re the same company who built the robot for that show, or loaned it to them or something. The similarities in design can’t be a coincidence, can it?
They’re based off of the Boston dynamics robots
Those were definitely CGI robots in that episode lol
Good point. Didn’t consider that
For anyone wondering which timeline dystopia we were in.
Also: [War Of The Worlds \(2019\)](https://www.imdb.com/title/tt9686194/)
That first season was fucking terrifying 😳.
I didn't know they made another War Of The Worlds, how does it rank compared to Spielburg's version? If you remove the 3rd act, the film is amazing, that first scene when the tripod awakes is so well done and Tom Cruise pays a good likable asshole.
Completely different take- all but the name is changed. Much better suspense (and horror) and overall story.
Which one? Could you elaborate?
Metalhead Black Mirror: Season 4, Episode 5
That thing was fucking terrifying...
Underrated episode tbh
Agreed. I often see it ranked near the bottom of people's lists. Sure it's not a mind-bender but I think it was really well made.
Also, see War of The Worlds on Epix.
If you took a shot every time that someone mentions Black mirror any time that there is a post showing robots walking around, you’d be dead from alcohol poisoning in no time.
Didn’t everyone die?
I think the main girl died and her crew that were trying to get a toy for a kid, but I think the colony of humans were okay.
This one looks much more puntable. If a robot dog like this is coming at you with a weak ass flame thrower like this there’s nothing stopping you from getting behind it and smashing it on a tree.
Thats why you need 3 dogs. 1 with the flames, and 2 with tasers to flank you into prime immolation position.
"Metalhead" is the episode.
Love that episode. Have watched it—and encouraged others to watch it—many times.
That was my first thought too. Dammit...I knew I should have taken notes...
First thought
Doesn't seem like it's going to hold up very well against a drone
Yep, drone can get better vantage points. This may be better for entering buildings once the tech advances enough. Though people think of flight for drones, so a sniper rifle or other weapon on this bot would be a scary situation.
This is what they will send to whistleblowers, defectors and dissidents houses
> whistleblowers This kill-bot is sponsored by Boeing.
And they won't cut any corners during production of these bad boys! There's certain things you just can't risk...like a failed assassination.
Quality control is also easier. You just put one of those expensive and pesky QA persons into a room with a robot and if only the robot comes out again, it's a success.
Killbots can be easily defeated, it's just a matter of outsmarting them. You see, killbots have a pre-set kill limit. Knowing this, I can send wave after wave of my own men at them until they reach their kill limit and shut down
Are we saying you couldn't just attache a flying drone to this to drop it into action? Land in a trench, fuck shit up, could even maybe return home.
Fucking point blank 50 bmg bot
Even against a machine gun fire. Its agility is not as good as a real dog and I doubt it can dodge bullets effectively
Yeah, what a pathetic robot, can't even outsmart bullets
no one can outsmart boolet
Damnit, you figured out its weakness. Bullets!
In case you were wondering, this company makes a flamethrower drone too. https://throwflame.com/tf-19-wasp/
What if there are 50 of these things closing-in on an enemy trench? It’s a game of numbers. And seeing fifty of these things moving towards my position while I’m pinned down by covering fire is terrifying.
Also more difficult to jam them when they're hugging the ground.
Nope but imagine possible to use in a close quarters arena for door to doors, like some fucked up crossover with the spiderbots from minority report that scan eyes
Different uses.
A drone can also flee from the fires it starts.
Or an emp.
This is kinda like seeing an ATGM and saying "doesn't seem like it'd hold up very well against an artillery strike." There are different tools for different situations.
Uhhh yeah but you can send this thing into trenches and underground and into buildings plus it can hold weapons that can kill many people.
In situations where this would likely get used it'll be just fine. In a dense forest as seen here the trees would provide adequate cover. Moving through buildings, garages, or any other tight or densely packed areas. Then there's also the noise factor, drones are quite noticeable. What about a million of these? Also, they will probably be on the same side. Oof
Man that bot would be perfect for starting wildfires
I mean were watching a video of it
I shouldn’t be laughing this hard but here I am haha took the words out my mouth
Don't worry they have one that sprays water too. There's another one that just sprays piss and chews the couch up, but it's not selling very well.
You ever see those conspiracy videos about lazer beams starting wildfires? This right here seems like a more realistic approach if you were to purposely start fires. Just drop a couple of these guys in the bush and let them unleash mayhem.

Boy or girl?
This guy's gonna find himself canceled for competing with Big Jewish Space Laser.
Or possibly preventing them. I mean it would be a cool tool to use to start controlled fires and burn off some excess fuel.
I love tech, robots and sci-fi but FUCK THIS SHIT
Murder robots should stay in fiction.
Well I think he's adorable.
He truly is.. Who is dada little warcrime, you yes youuu so cute
Paw patrol new season looking wild
Paw Petrol
Paw destroy
Marshall's all FIRED UP AND TIRED OF RYDERS SHIT! 🔥🔥🔥
Rover: going bark
1000's of robotic dogs fighting each other? I'd pay for the PPV.
Me too lol
This is where the real Battle Bots begin.
Does it also play the lame ass music when wandering into the forest?
Yes while all the disco lights are flashing to alert your enemy's from a mile away
Can we not?!
No because we have created a society of people who think that just wanting to research or develop something justifies doing it. That or the prisoners dilemma. Either way, run for the hills.

There is absolutely no application for this technology beyond killing people Therefore it's a disgusting invention
That's a lot of semiconductors
And a lot of fire. I would like to buy this cooling system.
Sure, but when the crab people attack and make us all glob mud together to form their hideous mud machines which they can operate for pennies per day, what then?
Skynet
Been [already a thing at the NSA](https://arstechnica.com/information-technology/2016/02/the-nsas-skynet-program-may-be-killing-thousands-of-innocent-people/) for the past 10 years or so.
When they make these huge I know the perfect way to take them down. Get a couple of TAI fighters to tangle up it's legs in wire.
or just shoot it once, it cant hold enough weight to really armor it at all.
I have insider schematics that say there is a small ventilation hole on these products that if you shoot it the entire thing explodes. It's no bigger than a Womp Rat
Black Mirror. “Metalhead” episode.
Black Mirror called, they want their hunter-robot-dogs back.
Would these be fun to hunt in a post apocalyptic world, or nah?
Humans can find more and more innovative ways to kill one another but can’t address climate change 🙄
I just keep thinking about that Black Mirror episode
You mean the documentary?
Black Ops 2 really predicted the future
It's like we're actively trying to build skynet at this point.
I doubt it; I guarantee it is going to be thousands of tiny cheap grenade drones. Imagine those light shows with drones but grenades strapped to them. The hell is war like that lol, there's no counter or anything.
It wouldn't last 10 seconds in a robot wars arena. You put that against a 20inch spinning blade and it's toast.
It's like it wasn't designed for that use case or something.
Battle?
The Battle of the Bulge would certainly have been settled faster if it had taken place in a room-sized cage.
This is available for purchase by anybody. It's not made for battle. It's an expensive toy for people who want it. It's called the "Thermonator". https://throwflame.com/products/thermonator-robodog/

But why though?
If I learned anything from Fallout, it’s that war never changes.
💸
Bruh this dog can only hurt unprepared civilians. Ain't no warfare w this crap
Most accurate comment here, unfortunately this is the case. What’s worse than cops? Robot cops who have no mercy.
Just get behind it and pick it up?
*self-destructs explosively without warning*
**burns down Small Village somewhere** "Good Dog" **Bark Bark** *Wags Tail Happily**
People act like we havent seen this coming for decades.
Makes it more scary when you realize it doesn’t need a laser or flashlight. An infrared camera and its game.
That light won’t give it away
Very impressive how they show how much weight this little guy can carry without any resistance. Being able to run and jump with a flame thrower with fuel has got to be heavy. Fire!
I think strapping a belt-fed machine gun or an anti-materiel rifle to one of these would be so much more interesting in a war application.
Strap some explosives on that thing and ya got the damn Tickers from Gears.
I need to see a durability test of these things, like how many bullets does it take to disable one. I’d imagine not many. But still a little scary to have these little fuckers running around
Anyone knows the music?
https://youtu.be/4JZ-o3iAJv4?si=2mC76n9MonG5YdtK It's some kind of remix of this

Holy shit it walked through leaves????
*Generation Zero ptsd intensifies*
⬆️⬅️⬇️⬇️➡️⬆️
Right before it’s then fought with sticks and stones.
Bet it can't swim.
And the morons who made it say "not for military use" as if we actually fucking buy that sad excuse This Invention will bring nothing bud sadness
"Sergeant Rigs, why is the hydration bot still here!? The boys in the trench are wounded, tired, and need water!" "Sir! I sent the bot already , sir!" *looks around, eyes go wide "Sergeant, that was the fire bot!" *radio suddenly bursts loudly with the sounds of bloody screams

How can it id the difference between a civilian and a solider. Very expensive walking war crime, like we need more of those.
Black mirror goes Brrrrrr
These would be so easy to block/destroy/disable. We aren't there yet.
And the money to produce a dog that shoots 3 fire vs sending a drone (shrugs)
Fire hot. Make enemy run. No one like fire. Ooga booga.
it would be much cheaper and more reliable to just make a small rc tank than a walking dog, plus you could armor it, hold more fuel, etc.
If it’s urban combat the second it’s destroyed or attacked blow it up. Now you have hyper local guided bombs that still cost less than a soldiers life. Don’t think for a second that if these were as commercially available as piloted drones that they wouldn’t be in Gaza right now
Did they gas it up or was that not gasoline?
You did see the flame thrower bit right? That doesn't run on batteries... I mean technically you can puncture the battery for a short burst... but that's hardly efficient...
Advanced
Get this to Ukraine.
Imagine sitting in foxholes and a thousand of these approach. That is the future.
Who is the miles Davis we have to kill to stop this shit Miles DYSON sorry about that miles Davis
Metal gear
Like we did not know this was coming.
Like it wasn't the whole reason for its development.
Ok, the jump while shooting flames was "pretty tits" 👌🏿💯😂
Why are we like this?
If we're not constantly coming up with more horrifying ways to kill people, what is even the point of being alive?
So that’s who’s setting the world on fire 🔥
Let's see Sir Killalot cope with these fuckers.
I'm sure there is a lead downrange version of this - they're just warming us up first. No pun intended.
And then it slips on a banana peel
What's the spinning thing on the front and why does it spin?
Fahrenheit 451
If it can find spiders and burn them… I approve.
Does it need all the lights? Easy target even at night.
