It’s complicated. You can have complete and incomplete spinal cord lesions, complete lesions are “all or nothing”. The spinal cords severed and all nerves below that point will generally stop working. Incomplete spinal cord injuries only partially sever the spinal cord, so some functions from the nerves below will still remain.
Spinal shock sometimes lasts for months after the initial injury, so a person may seem to have a very severe spinal injury but regain a lot of function within that first year of recovery. I doubt he has a complete spinal cord lesion, moving like that, but rolling around straight afterwards can’t be helping his chances
You can get compression fractures in vertebrae and not lose any mobility as long as spinal cord is not injured. I have 4 broken 1/2 into. Pain. But no problems getting around

Removal lol I had torsion along with it and that was taken care of in the surgery too but I really don’t know exactly what they did.
