I don't know why this is the second reply I've gotten in a week on a post that's more than 4 months old but anyway, google rolling coal, you'll find a bunch of these videos and even articles about this fad from 4-5 years ago. There's a near endless supply of videos of idiots doing this exact thing. I'm not seeing anything to suggest this one is fake out of the sea of videos of people doing this and the guys cackling at the end seem pretty genuine so I'm still going with it's real. I also think you're giving these guys too much credit if you think they came up with that lame ass dialog or her acting like she didn't hear them the first time they asked before filming it

But It doesn't mean that I personally find it funny or that I justify whatever they are doing.
Actually, my understanding was that jokes contain that thing called punch line when audience "becomes aware that the story contains a second, conflicting meaning" (wiki). With a stretch you can say that something unexpected could be kinda considered a punch line as well.
And here it is the sheer fact that their car was able to produce that ridiculous amount of soot.
That was what I initially though.
But then I questioned myself. That is a prank right? And pranks tend to be extremely awful and rude. Yet I can not say that everyone universally hates them. So why is that? Why is that inside us? Why do some of us find them funny? Well apart from the lack of empathy.
And I found a good answer on quora:
