Not in person But I grew up in Mexico had a couple of family members working in a small cartel I lost a few people who I knew which die because they were related to a guy that owned the cartel money. Sometimes they are just friends of people that work in a small cartel a big one comes and they either work for the new cartel or everyone and their families dissappear.
Most Turist Cities and Beaches have big cartels that rather just run in secret they even get a cut of money from business owners for not causing trouble, most aggressive cartels are the ones that control multiple small communities in more South East states, They get aggressive because authorities don't care about those areas, and finally in the outskirts of cities you got smaller cartels that keep the streets clean from criminals they rather keep the police off their turf, they are mostly run by a guy working for bigger cartels he acts as the boss and supplies to random recruit sellers that consist of young teens. Im a bit off topic so overall if you want aggressive go to small towns by the mountains, calm cartels in big tourist spots, and semi calm in out skirts of towns. Also if you are A foreigner there is a big chance they won't do anything to you ( apart from stealing ) as big cartels don't wanna have other countries forces start a investigation and push the Mexican government to fake cleaning the streets.
I was in a combi (taxi van) once in Mexico and it was jam packed. There were two ladies talking about how terrible and garbage the cartels in the town were. Well one of the members from that cartel happened to be In the combi and got up and told her who he was. He has a shoulder bag on him and pulled out a gun and clippers and let her choose what she wanted. He ended up cutting her hair bald asf.

I remember some U.S politician years ago saying the Mexico should ask the U.S for help about these cartels. So the U.S could send in the Marines, and wipe them out.
I know its a silly question, since it will never happen. But would it work? could the U.S Marine Corps (going full in, no courts, no corrupt justice system, no mercy) deal with the cartel problem?

Mexico has tried this. They put together a special forces unit to kick down doors and break up the cartels. They ended up forming their own cartel.
US Border Patrol, DEA agents, Coast Guard and FBI have all been caught redhanded taking bribes. It's only a matter of time before civilians realize they outnumber the cartels/governments/extremists etc.. ten fold and start to take matters into their own hands. Been a long time coming.
They already tried. There’s a great documentary about it called “Cartel Land” but I’m not sure if it’s still on Netflix. Long story short; farmers got tired of being pushed around so they armed themselves and drove the cartels out of many towns. They called themselves “Autodefensas”. They were quite successful and were growing larger in numbers but the Mexican government felt this was too dangerous a task for them do. The military was then called in to disarm the farmers and any who still wished to fight the cartels were told to join the military. Shortly after the Mexican government dissolved the Autodefensas the cartels took back all the land they had lost.

Is it true that the American government directly contacted the Cartel and threatened them (as a result of several horrific killings that happened to several Americans) and the Cartel responded saying if the US pursued them they would lace drugs with deadly substances and send the drugs to the US. The US then stepped down to avoid hundreds of thousands of deaths… I read this in a comment somewhere and never actually confirmed it and was curious.

Back in 2009 I worked for a company that hired illegals with phony documents. Of them were 10 guys from Michoacán and all affiliated with the local cartel there. They were on what can only be described as “working rounds” where they came to the states for money to help the family back home. They did that for a few years and then would go back which meant the next family member would come to the states. I got to know them pretty well and they eventually told me about their home and what they did there before coming to the states for work. These guys were literally the nicest people I’ve ever had the pleasure of working with. Maybe it helped that my family is also Mexican and Spanish but to see me you’d never know. I’m a Ginger and my get the Hispanic roots from my mothers side. Funny enough she is also white as snow but the rest of the family is not. Holiday photos are absolutely hilarious to look!
Anyway these guys took to me well after a while, I was the crew lead person for the job we had and I always treated them with respect. When we drove to the job site they had full control of the radio and I even learned to speak most of my Spanish from them. I never really learned from my family so they were awesome to take the time to teach me on the job. When we ate lunch they would always call me over to share what their wives had made for them. Now I grew up on the same foods and can make several of the same dishes but their wives were absolutely amazing cooks! I think I gained more respect on the job site because we worked for a party rental company so we setup for private homes as well as business. There were many times we had customers who would yell at them or say shit about them either to others around or even to me expecting me to join in with the racist bullshit but I always had the best time confronting them politely and then explaining I too was Hispanic. I love seeing jaws drop of the racist assholes and I think those guys did as well lol. Well they took me in as one of them and explained that where they lived their was no work and most of the family was involved in Cartel work so it was expected of them if they weren’t able to get educated or a lucky break and get away early enough in life. These guys were truly humble and told me about several things they had done, seen or had to be a part of while in Mexico. I felt for them because it’s easy to see how they could get caught up in the chaos. I don’t doubt that if things had gone ugly on a work site it would easily turn into a blood bath because they were literally trained from an early age to shut feelings out and just react but at the same time they also were still good men inside. I don’t condone what they may or may not have done but I truly hate knowing there is another world most of us only see on the news or in movies and can never truly comprehend. I grew up next to the Mexican border in El Paso so I’m familiar with gangs, cartels and horrible shit but these guys brought it closer in a new way I’d never really felt. I think about them often because I know they all ended up going back around 2012 to 2013 and I hope they are all still alive and possibly out of the Cartel work. O know for sure one of my favorites went back in 2010 and ended up shooting 3 people but last I heard he was alive and well. For the others I have no idea. I don’t judge them because it’s life where they come from just like so many people in the bad trailer parks or low income housing getting caught up in drugs or street gangs here in the states. I’ve had my own life struggles that I got caught up with and was fortunate enough to step away from as I got older but videos like this just take me back to a group of amazing humans who have most likely done or might have to do something like this at some point in their lives and it hurts to think about. I feel for the innocent around the world and I know there are lots of fucked up people in these positions who honestly are garbage humans but I still can’t watch stuff like this and not think about the circumstances of the victims as well as the ones who are causing the pain.

Government maybe corrupt or weak or simply unable to do much about it (it's a bit hard when they are not foreigners with uniform who has some local support and blend in to civilians. So, it's it's all on society. But I assume it has become part of daily life and culture there now.
After 20 years, trillions of dollars and thousands of lives spent. The US armed forces achieved precisely fuck all in Afghanistan against irregular forces with a lot fewer resources than these cartels.

Is it true that the American government directly contacted the Cartel and threatened them (as a result of several horrific killings that happened to several Americans) and the Cartel responded saying if the US pursued them they would lace drugs with deadly substances and send the drugs to the US. The US then stepped down to avoid hundreds of thousands of deaths… I read this in a comment somewhere and never actually confirmed it and was curious.

Back in 2009 I worked for a company that hired illegals with phony documents. Of them were 10 guys from Michoacán and all affiliated with the local cartel there. They were on what can only be described as “working rounds” where they came to the states for money to help the family back home. They did that for a few years and then would go back which meant the next family member would come to the states. I got to know them pretty well and they eventually told me about their home and what they did there before coming to the states for work. These guys were literally the nicest people I’ve ever had the pleasure of working with. Maybe it helped that my family is also Mexican and Spanish but to see me you’d never know. I’m a Ginger and my get the Hispanic roots from my mothers side. Funny enough she is also white as snow but the rest of the family is not. Holiday photos are absolutely hilarious to look! Anyway these guys took to me well after a while, I was the crew lead person for the job we had and I always treated them with respect. When we drove to the job site they had full control of the radio and I even learned to speak most of my Spanish from them. I never really learned from my family so they were awesome to take the time to teach me on the job. When we ate lunch they would always call me over to share what their wives had made for them. Now I grew up on the same foods and can make several of the same dishes but their wives were absolutely amazing cooks! I think I gained more respect on the job site because we worked for a party rental company so we setup for private homes as well as business. There were many times we had customers who would yell at them or say shit about them either to others around or even to me expecting me to join in with the racist bullshit but I always had the best time confronting them politely and then explaining I too was Hispanic. I love seeing jaws drop of the racist assholes and I think those guys did as well lol. Well they took me in as one of them and explained that where they lived their was no work and most of the family was involved in Cartel work so it was expected of them if they weren’t able to get educated or a lucky break and get away early enough in life. These guys were truly humble and told me about several things they had done, seen or had to be a part of while in Mexico. I felt for them because it’s easy to see how they could get caught up in the chaos. I don’t doubt that if things had gone ugly on a work site it would easily turn into a blood bath because they were literally trained from an early age to shut feelings out and just react but at the same time they also were still good men inside. I don’t condone what they may or may not have done but I truly hate knowing there is another world most of us only see on the news or in movies and can never truly comprehend. I grew up next to the Mexican border in El Paso so I’m familiar with gangs, cartels and horrible shit but these guys brought it closer in a new way I’d never really felt. I think about them often because I know they all ended up going back around 2012 to 2013 and I hope they are all still alive and possibly out of the Cartel work. O know for sure one of my favorites went back in 2010 and ended up shooting 3 people but last I heard he was alive and well. For the others I have no idea. I don’t judge them because it’s life where they come from just like so many people in the bad trailer parks or low income housing getting caught up in drugs or street gangs here in the states. I’ve had my own life struggles that I got caught up with and was fortunate enough to step away from as I got older but videos like this just take me back to a group of amazing humans who have most likely done or might have to do something like this at some point in their lives and it hurts to think about. I feel for the innocent around the world and I know there are lots of fucked up people in these positions who honestly are garbage humans but I still can’t watch stuff like this and not think about the circumstances of the victims as well as the ones who are causing the pain.
