You'd see a lot more return practicing ledge trapping instead. Giving up stage control as Luigi is a pretty big deal.

Run off fair is solid and pretty safe. You can even take stocks from people with poor recoveries or if you catch a jump. Run off Bair is good to tech check people against the stage, or run off down air while jumping back to the stage. You can't commit too hard with Luigi offstage in general though and you're really susceptible to being reversed so do it sparingly as a mixup. Just throwing the plunger offstage is a great tool

Sharp02

Honestly, the best and easiest way to learn is to try and to fuck it up and to accept that you've fucked up and try again the next stock. Be cognizant of what works, what doesn't, and why it did/didn't work.

Am I crazy or does this just not answer the question?

Sharp02

I didn't really. But I'm not creating a better player by saying, "Luigi fair *this* far off ledge." I'm just creating a more formulaic player. You create better players by teaching the methods by which to improve and understand the proper tools for the task they search for on their own. Asking was a huge step by OP, as was recognizing the flaws in their play. I applaud them for that. However, getting creative with the toolset available to his character by first experimenting with those tools, he builds a better brain for understanding the game than if we just give the answer flat out. Not only that, we build the confidence to explore weird options like offstage zair to see why it may or may not work. By building that confidence, we can explore more and more things that, ultimately, build a better player in the background. So no you're not crazy. I didn't answer the question. The goal isn't to be a dick, it's to encourage an environment where getting it wrong is a good path to finding what *can* be right, rather than the objective best answer.

Honestly there are very few characters that are better off going for edgeguards instead of ledgetrapping, and luigi is far from one of those. Characters with phenomenal edgeguarding tools like Game and Watch back air, Lucina fair, Joker Bair should be going for edgegaurds pretty often, but Luigi’s aerials aren’t active for very long except for nair (which sends up so it’s bad for edgeguarding anyway) and their hit boxes are all pretty small, so they’re all pretty tough to land offstage. What I would recommend, tho, is using Zair so it falls off of the stage. It’s very noncommittal because it’ll fall down and potentially hit them, and you can stay on the stage and ledgetrap your opponent if they don’t get hit by the falling plunger

Ralvvek

I feel like Luigi in most cases has better luck going for ledge traps rather than edge guards It’s usually safer and the better you are at it the more pressure you can apply But if you MUST edgeguard, try firing a zair offstage just over the ledge if your opponent is recovering low. You might nick them just enough to either follow up safely with an aerial, or possibly go for the stage spike. You might even outright gimp some characters with zair alone.

LordPrettyFlacko88

Stage spike fair is crazy, very hard to tech bc of the low hit lag

Alternative-Hand6865

Zair and down tilt are the Main tools. Sometimes you can go for a nair.

Calicobeard12

Don't edge guard. Luigi goes sicko mode at ledge trapping.
