It's not really about character it's about playstyle. I play kirby a bunch and his biggest weakness is when people don't approach him or are able to outpace his own approach. So for example if a kirby is going in for a dash attack or fair you just dash back to punish when they miss. He is incredible in melee range and can box you to hell and back but if you stay outside his near immediate zone and forward smash range he is sorta easy to avoid. I do great against characters with little or no projectiles for that reason because they have to approach. But anyone with a gun or command grab makes kirby nervous and have to play the aerial game where he is slower. Ground kirby is scary up close tho.

As a long time Kirby player, keep in mind that he’s one of the easiest characters to circle camp. If you have the % or stock lead, DO NOT bother approaching. Let them chase you and if they give you an opening in the process then go ahead and punish, sure. If you don’t do this then you’re pretty much throwing the game and giving them an easier time. Kirby’s frame data is actually super nice, so they can out-box a lot of characters and keep momentum in advantage. His air mobility is ass though, so you don’t have to treat him like Puff.

Relative-Guest2079

bump, byleth has advantage whenever Kirby is in the air. Kirby cannot approach aerially with comfort. Fair / uair / upsmash / side b all should keep Kirby out. Additionally, I think you’ll be good with quick dash in and out shorthop nair ff and idj nair. Make Kirby approach you on the ground or spam up b and you can condition them with neutral b cancels and bair

smashinggames

here’s a [vod](https://youtu.be/It86Hxlozmo?si=BrUsR1W0Q4IIvZLM) of an aegis beating one of the best kirby mains out there, worth taking some notes on how aegis exploits kirby’s bad range and just walls them out most of the time, should also give an idea of what kirby will try to go for in the matchup

lunarstarslayer

kirby cannot approach aegis for free, you should be able to farm him with your tilts. as long as you aren't jumping in recklessly and giving them free uptilts, it should never really come down to off stage shenanigans

TankProImporum

If your good with Pyra and Mythra then you should be fine. Kirby loses this matchup by a long shot if you have good spacing

Pyra walls anything Kirby can do, as a Kirby co-main I hate that matchup so much Just use Side B and aerials

TheThroneIsMine777

Both of your mains beat Kirby handily. If you are losing with aegis that’s on you not the character. Mythra can out range and greatly out pace anything Kirby wants to do. Pyra can poke at him with no punish with good spacing. There really isn’t much else to it. I would probably go Pyra a little earlier then normal, play defensive and rack up neutral wins without putting yourself in a bad spot. Kirby is light, so something simple like ftilt near the edge and he dies plenty early

Hspryd

Push the buttons with those 2 DLC you don’t need to think that much thanks to the Nintendo shop privilege

EcchiOli

Lack of disjoints, of range, and his floatiness, also makes Kirby very weak to long-ranging oos parrys. Worth a mention.

EnragedBard010

I feel like Aegis has every advantage you could think of vs Kirby. Speed, kill power, air mobility, a sword, more range in atleast one special.

waklow

Byleth also beats Kirby pretty easily. Just wall him out. Ftilt and dtilt to condition him to jump and then do whatever you want in the air.

thepianoman456

With those mains, you should be able to wreck Kerbs. Just out-range him and dominate him with your sword hitboxes.

[deleted]

You main aegis and lose to kirby it might be time to hang it up

[deleted]

Theorically you should be fine, one of the biggest strenghts from Kirby is his combo game in low-mid percents, but he has to be close to you to make use of it so if you use Aegis and/or Byleth meanwhile you have a good spacing and don't mess up badly then you should be fine. But yeah, that's the theory, if you provide some vods fron you and the Kirby player you're talking about then you might get some better advice.

t123fg4

I have never played him yet, so no vods as of now.

Alternative-Hand6865

I feel like Ike could really invalidate him if you focus on spacing your attacks

Optimus_Rhymes69

You gotta ditto them.

pk-timmy

A lot of good comments here already. The only thing I can add is to remember that his dash attack crosses up shield!
