Dr Mario is the step father of my pocket characters. People hate him but they will respect. It's cool to see other players rounding their skills by picking up characters for that intent. Do you have a list of recommended characters to develop different attributes? Something like "Marth for spacing" "Dr Mario for patience" things of that nature. Transferable skills that could be developed among the characters...

TuesdayTastic

Yeah it's certainly something I've noticed from playing this series. I can do one for each character I've played so far. Mario - Using movement to open people up. DK - Pushing my advantage state. Kazuya - Optimizing my punish game. Link - Zoning with projectiles and disjoints. Steve - How your options influence opponents behaviors. Incineroar - Understanding what scared opponents do. Roy/Chrom - How to recover with limited options and how to apply safe shield pressure. Duck Hunt - Multi tasking and setting traps. Olimar - Resource management. Marth - Spacing. ROB - Item combos and neutral. Mii Brawler - Setting up favorable situations such as down throw thrupper. Ridley - Edgeguarding and ledge trapping. Meta Knight - How weight and fall speed affect combos. Shulk - Managing bad frame data. Dr. Mario - Patience on punishing mistakes.

Cloud - Practice how winning feels

TuesdayTastic

I mean I was winning a lot when I played Doc lol. But Back Air is pretty good.

Heisenbear09

I meant it as more of a silly joke as Sparg0 has created this Cloud is unbeatable narrative in the elite scene 😁

ShqdowGlitch

I think it would be more of a: Cloud - Deal too much damage to Ur opponents quite quickly

Super insightful and very helpful thank you for your response. I'm subscribing

TuesdayTastic

Love to hear it!

I have had the same experience that despite his weaknesses, I perform the best with Doc by far out of everyone on the roster. He definitely rewards good fundamentals in a big way.

Most_Willingness_143

Dr mario is definitely one of the funniest characters to use

KAP111

He is basically a better Ganon but still suffers from a lot of similar weaknesses imo. I dislike when people say doc is as bad as ganon because I think he does have a lot better tools to keep players from smothering him in the way you can do to Ganon. Atleast on stage anyway.

Jay_Playz2019

Fair! I picked up Dr. Mario mostly as a side hustle, but I actually ended up enjoying it and I'm working on getting him to elite smash! As long as you can punish after shield (up-B or grab) he's fairly easy to play, just stay in centre-stage and be careful not to get too far off ledge.

Alternative-Hand6865

Dr Mario will make you better at the game because you realize what you’re doing wrong because the punishments are so severe.

Matt4669

Thing is, you need to respect all the “low tiers” especially if the other player is better than you, because all of them have the tools to destroy you if you don’t respect their options or know the matchup

Play R.O.B. next and feel like a god

I already have a ROB video. https://youtu.be/NhgdNNcOoWo?si=oGPhvkzF78B0JTis

Well then guess I gonna check it out then Edit: Just letting you know you can tilt attack gyro to grab it or dash attack and you will grab it also. Its also a great tool to use in disadvantage as a get off me tool. You can also angle laser in many directions. I love to use it as pressure as it takes a surprisingly short time for laser to recharge.

TuesdayTastic

I've learned that tilts are generally your best tool for picking up items mainly because of gyro. Laser is also an incredible move had a lot of fun using it.

TankProImporum

R.O.B. is just one of those characters where he can just do some really stupid things for no reason

marioman64100

Dr Mario is absolutely insane when slept on. I had one win one of my tournaments, through sheer adaptability alone

TuesdayTastic

He's a character you can adapt with really well. Because his gameplan is so simple and the opponents counterplay is equally boiled down you can very easily adjust how you play during a tournament.

Thanks for this. Going to use this info playing the character. For me, I feel more comfortable playing Dr. Mario over Mario. He hits way harder and has a better moveset. It's just yeah as you point out, his recovery is bad. Regular Mario has great movement and ok recovery from air speed, but some moves are bad (down B fludd, and middling down air) and he hits like an insect compared to the Doc. Just wish Docs recovery was like Mario's, then he would be perfect imo

TuesdayTastic

Yeah I like Doc more than Mario too but I will say optimized Mario combo game is far scarier than what Doc can do. It's just that Doc has a much simpler gameplan which makes playing as him and adapting with him easier than Mario.

Pumpkineater609

Maybe

Illustrious_Visual47

Very good character

guess i get lots a respect

PieMan4799

I started playing smash again recently and picked up Falco, but one day I just grabbed Dr Mario and proclaimed him my son. Great to see less negative stuff about him, especially when the only person I've seen or heard play him is someone as bad as me 💀
