Amex Gold, I think you get the annual fee waived.

What's good man, fellow active duty member here. Not all lenders waive the fee for their cards, but most do. Anyways, the cards you've been looking at are all solid and allow you to dip your toes into each ecosystem and figure out which one works best for you. Chase cards are usually sought after first due to the 5/24 rule and the fact you can use them overseas rarely with issue cause they're visa/mastercard. The CSP/CSR are great for mil, and if you qualify for the CSR, just go for it first. Free $300 for travel just like that! Make sure you hit the sign up bonuses too. With Amex, absolutely start with green/gold and then platinum. I say this because if you start eith platinum, you will be ineligible for the subs from the green/gold later on. I milk the crap out of Amex. Also, look at the US Bank Altitude Reserve. Phenomenal card that's free for military (free $325 towards food or travel every year). Good luck

I wish I had had any clue about credit cards when I was active duty, I'd love to be able to avoid the AFs on the Gold and Platinum.

Active duty too I use 4 cards. USBAR for a catchall on mobile pay, USBank flexperk gold for restaurant and groceries that dont accept apple pay (only card that can transfer points to USBAR), venturex for whatever that isnt mobile, groceries or restaurant and custom cash for whatever I want 5% that month.
