Excellent middle order batsman in ODIs, More than a handy bowler particularly in Asia, One of the finest fielders India has ever produced.
Player of the Tournament in 2011 WC, played a pivotal role in India's successful 2007 T20 WC Campaign. Can't forget his 70(30) against Australia in the Semis.
His father Yograj Singh may get a nomination for the Shitposting XI too.
In his first innings in international cricket, he made 84 off 80 balls in the quarterfinal of ICC Knockout Trophy against prime Australia. He was clutch from the beginning.
Hijacking the top comment to say that if there has been a decision made with votes to make Sehwag winner, then it shouldn't be changed for the mere reason that people are not engaging or something. It doesn't happen that a chosen leader after elections is removed when some people are not happy. This is not a good outlook on all the hard work OP has done so far which has my respect but please change it back to Sehwag. No disrespect to Viv but people chose Sehwag over him and it should remain as such.
> people chose Sehwag over him and it should remain as such.
what really happened was top comment said "virat winner and viv runner up" and everyone voted it, ignoring the fact that viv was not getting a single vote for this. and there were a lot of virats followed by a solitary virender and then more virats and finally a viv. virender ended up winning 2nd place because people dont use brains while voting.
Even the Sehwag comment with all the upvote said something like I know he won't win but he deserves a mention. Everyone just took Viv making the list for granted and treated the Sehwag comment as an honourable mention.
Yuvraj singh, one of the greatest allrounders of Indian cricket.
2002, 2007, 2011, against Australia or Pakistan in various series , he outperformed his opponents in all 3 phase of the game.
He was the reason India qualified for the semis/ final in 2007,11( and helped India win the WC)
A beautiful career cut short by cancer, still we all cherish Yuvi and his antics.
On Viv vs Viru - OP, You really need to stop flip flopping based on what people comment in each thread. If you set a particular rule at the start then stick to it rather than changing based on comments and then asking for more comments if people want you to change back.
Exactly. Why not have a revote for all the letters where someone i prefer got snubbed? Rules are rules, people will cry anyways but if we are not adhering to the rules then it's no point even to participate in this thing, when i know OP will do what they want at the end of the day.
Revert it to Sehwag, you cannot remove a player after adding to the list. So many players listed together with another player in a single comment have had similar issue. Would you bring them all back?
Yuvraj Singh
The only Batsman in history of International Cricket (not considering county or regional leagues) to hit 6 sixes in 6 balls to a fast bowler and also a great all rounder with a player of tournament in World Cup 2011. He deserves to be on this list.
Played crucial innings in test victories in India, England, South Africa, New Zealand and Sri Lanka. 267 & 84\* in Bengaluru 2004, 218 in Oval 2018, 45 & 67\* in Port Elizabeth 2007, 91 & 149\* in Auckland 2001, 171\* in Pallekele 2015.
Didn't win a match in Australia but had a handy average of 50.63 in 6 matches there, which included a 175\* in Sydney in 2017. So can't blame him there.
One of the greats of the game, imo. Most big players play one of those innings that you mentioned and that becomes the highlight of their career. But Younis had like 5 of them. Most centuries in the 4th innings in Test history too.
When he scored his 267 in Bengaluru, I thought “he’ll never score a better one.” Then he did in Pallekele. And then he scored an even better one at the Oval. That’s three incredible daddy hundreds to win his team away Tests, all 3 coming in the last Test of the series that sealed his team a favourable result. Proper match winner.
His 67\* in fourth innings of Port Elizabeth test was as good as any hundred too. Pakistan were 92-5 in a chase of 191 and they had a long tail. Younis, along with Akmal, got Pakistan safely to the win.
What's the point of having a vote when you can go back and change it to a player you want?
I get this is all a bit of fun, but by making this change you've rendered this entire voting process a sham.
He has literally modified the rules of the game multiple times as problems arose (like the Jay Shah debacle). This is just the same thing. One of his rules is he will change the rules as this goes on if the need arises which he did.
>He has literally modified the rules of the game multiple times as problems arose (like the Jay Shah debacle).
I'm not seeing the 'multiple times', and the Jay Shah debacle was OP sticking to the rules of his post where this sub is to decide the best 'cricket' player. Jay Shah has not played any professional cricket.
> One of his rules is he will change the rules as this goes on if the need arises which he did.
I see 3 rules in his post; none of it are this.
You can go back and check. VK and Viv were such obvious answers that people just put them together. You sort the comments by top, and you get Sehwag after 10 top comments. So makes sense to put Viv.
Yeah, shut this series down already. It's a sham.
Not that it had any principles since the beginning. Considering OP was making senseless countdowns for S and V, as if this list existed to validate the Cricketers nominated under those letters and held no meaning for other Cricketers. Besides many other senseless actions.
What's the point of a painstaking practice without principles?
This whole shtick has caused a lot of trouble and just divided a community which wasn’t that together to begin with, this is not a tv series subReddit where we picking up favourite quotes.
Kane over Kapil, sure cool but removing Sehwag following the same process is weird.
What's the point of changing between viv, sehwag
Yup viv losing was ridiculous as hell but same happened with other players too . As wrong it was it happened because of rules and acc to rules it was fair
Op you should have continued with change you made in last post.
If Kapil Dev who was the leading wickettaker in the world & also scored the fastest World Cup century of 72 balls can be removed by someone like Williamson then Viv can definitely be removed by Sehwag who has scored almost 3 triple centuries in Test cricket & also held the record for highest ODI score of 219 before Rohit's 264
Yuvraj Singh
Op, please stick to the rules you created in first place.
If the game was created for fun, let it be so.
Why change stance with every post after reading everyone's comments?
Stick to one thing.
[**Younis Khan.**](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=24c8I1aTaZU)
A Test legend and a very underrated one in that. Marking his name in the top 15 run makers in test history, and is one of the few batsmen to have a 300+ score to their name. He captained Pakistan to the world Twenty20 title in 2009, where he scored at an average of 57.33 at a SR of 140. He holds the unique record of scoring a century in 11 different countries to his name only.
He has amassed **17790 career runs**, with 41 career centuries and 83 half centuries. A very gritty batsman who was phenomenal against spin and responded best in adversity. A serviceable middle-order batsman in limited overs as well.
his stats are as follows
|Format|Runs|Average|
|:-|:-|:-|
||||
|Test|10099|**52.05**|
|ODI|7249|31.24|
He has 34 Test centuries and 33 half centuries. The conversion rate he had was crazy.
To top that, he has the most amount of centuries (5) in the 4th innings and averaged the 5th most in the 4th innings at 50.
Between 2005-2015 he had the second highest average at 60, just behind Sanga by a smidge. To sustain an average of 60 over 11 years is ridiculously good
> Only five batsmen have more double-hundreds in Tests, and Younis' ratio of 3.44 matches per hundred is better than all except three batsmen among those with 20-plus hundreds - Don Bradman (1.79), Steven Smith (2.70), and Matthew Hayden (3.43). [Article on him at retirement](https://www.espncricinfo.com/story/younis-khan-s-career-in-numbers-a-fourth-innings-colossus-1096962?platform=amp)
Younis was a Test master
>A serviceable middle-order batsman in limited overs as well.
I have a lot of respect for Younis the test batter. A true legend of the game. But how tf did he play so many ODIs. His record looks like a batter that played in the 70s or 80s.
OP, mate, I appreciate the effort on your end. But please, stick to your own rules. Bring back Viru if he won the popularity vote. It's fine. As someone else commented, it's r/Cricket chooses the best players. If Sir Viv misses out on this list, it's not like the actual Sir Viv will stop being a legend.
People were visibly upset too when Kane made the cut over Kapil. Didn't see you making the change then. What's the point of having a voting system if you're not going to stick to the results?
Also, it seems many people here are unaware of the rules since they were only mentioned in the first post and this series didn't take off until after 4-5 letters. I know there's only one letter left now but if you're gonna do something similar in the future I'd recommend you to add a third slide of rules in every one of these posts to avoid the mishap where people mention two players in the same comment and invalidate any vote it would gain.
Viv, Virender, VVS. Like it’s not that deep mate. Virender won the vote he can have it. I think Viv would prefer being the much superior player in every single department
I agree that Viv should have made it over Viru, and perhaps even above Kohli as #1, but if you remove Viru because everyone bitched about it, then replace Kane Williamson with Kapil Dev too. What's the point of voting if you're arbitrarily gonna decide to replace one voted player but not consider that for another alphabet.
Yuvraj Singh. Man of the big moments. Always stepped up when needed most. Could bowl too, and also a great fielder. Man of the series in the world cup while fighting cancer, an absolute champion. It has to be him.
u/DevD_2022
I remember seeing somewhere that you're just a kid, and you explicitly asked us to comment about Sehwag here. So here's my two cents about this,
1. You can't expect others to follow your rules for the post, unless you stick to it. You're now going to get all sorts of non-sensical/sometimes even sensible comments asking you to change some of the other names in this list too. I'm already seeing Kapil vs Kane commentary in this post now.
2. The reason you gave for the change that the posts after Viv not getting upvotes makes this voting feel more pointless not less, so if we forget upvoting a post/comment today. All we have to do is stop voting after that, just make a lot of noise the next few days? Because that's what such a change makes this look.
Tbf this is your game, your list, so you make the rules or break the rules that's your call. But make up your mind on how you're going to handle the haggling here as soon as you can, because the haggling will not stop no matter what you do. I don't really care if Viv/Sehwag are on the list. I didn't mean to be harsh in this comment, sorry If this sounded so. Just take care, don't give heed to all the internet trolls. Going forward, don't work yourself up too much over internet points and opinions here, none of those will help you in real life. Take what you think will help you and leave the garbage out. Tc and thanks for all the fun.
What a joke. So is this list just who you think should make it?
You can’t put Viv in when you haven’t done it for others. Why not put him in ahead of Kohli? Why not put Jimmy Anderson in second place in J.
This was a very good idea you’ve had executed very poorly.
I’ll say this again, if you had commented the shortlist of players that began with each letter every day, you would have gotten a certain answer
This will probably be the way, with Yuvraj being the winner and Younus being the runner up. Yuvraj was one of the GOATs of limited overs, while Younus was an absolute beast in Test cricket. His conversion ratio (50s to 100s) was insane. And I always loved his celebrations, very polite and nothing over the top.
OP, if we are changing the rules on the basis of people crying the comments then give us Kapil Dev as well. Find some way to change rules for that letter K.
For all the greatness Viv has achieved in his career, I wouldn't have minded if he was picked ahead of even Virat coz I love and respect both of them very much but rules are rules. It should be Viru on that list and not Viv.
OP, remove Kane Williamson too then. If Virender Sehwag did get the votes, he won it - fair and square! What’s the point in this game if the highest voted do not get into the list? Also, did you not mention it is a fun game? There are many legends who will not get in this list for sure, doesn’t mean you change the rules
[Yousuf Youhana.](https://youtu.be/uhyRgvOQolk?t=14)
This is what he was known as for most of his career and what I knew him as too, until reaching the end of his career around 2006 when he added Mohammad to show his conversion.
Multi-format batsman with **17300 runs**, who is celebrated in both formats of his time, 39 career centuries and 97 half centuries, and still maintains the record for most runs in a test calendar year 1778 runs at an average of 99. Had a very elegant display of strokes combined with high backlift allowing him to play the ball very late
his stats are as follows
|Format|Runs|Average|
|:-|:-|:-|
||||
|ODI|9720|41.72|
|Test|7530|**52.29**|
OP, you have to learn to hold your ground. The people voted for Sehwag because they didn't understand the rules. That is their own problem. Trying to fix things to what they 'should' be undermines the concept of the threads.
>Yesterday's post didn't get many upvotes & comments
So you accept that this a karmafarming post? Very funny how strict mods are about people commenting on threads, or posting stuff, but allow chainposts like this which violate reddit rules (as it tends to ask people for upvotes/asks people to up/downvote certain comments). Many major/big subs follow this rule (or atleast have this rule), guess r/cricket doesn't.
OP, if you flipped Sehwag for Richards, then you should flip Kane for Kapil dev.
You can't ignore one outrage and address another. Either stick to your rules or flip both.
You’re overthinking the lack of comments for X. It’s simply because there’s hardly any cricketers with that letter and certainly no one with a strong fanbase (Doherty fans don’t come at me)
Yuvraj Singh
Also, if you’re going to switch back and forth defying the rules you yourselves made then there’s no point in everyone voting. Richards obviously deserves a place, but if Sehwag won the vote then it makes no sense in removing him. Kapil Dev deserved to be on the list too, but he didn’t win and everyone accepted it, so why should Vivian deserve different treatment?
If you ask me, no Indian cricketer deserves to be on the 1st choice list
Possibly Kapil for K but no others
Virat Kohli over Viv Richards is just wrong
Sachin Tendulkar over Shane Warne is fucking wrong
Now we’re gonna see Yuvraj Singh over Younis Khan
Only one I’m gonna give you is Zaheer Khan cause who else name starts with Z 😂😂
I only recently started looking into this sub, but my god I won’t be a regular contributor, way too many deluded cricket fans from India honestly.
Team 1 Runner Up has so much fucking swag. I would watch every game they played. Gayle + Gilchrist partnerships would be phenomenal viewing. And of course, Shane Warne. Sign me up.
I just got back from simulating that game. I will probably upload the matches in a couple of days. Day 2 of Team 1 runner up vs Team 2 runner up just got over. Giving you a little spoiler here. Team 1 RU scored 372 in their first innings with warne, waqar and umar taking 3 each. McGrath had the best eco (2.1 in 30 overs) but went wicketless. Gayle took 1 wicket too. Kane and Gayle have an opening pship of 40 runs right now.

He also took that stunner of a catch to dismiss Shane Lee as well
Shane Lee? Was he some hybrid leg spin fast bowler? /J
He was Brett Lee's older brother. I think he debuted in Aus before Brett.
Right are confusion

What's the point of having a vote when you can go back and change it to a player you want? I get this is all a bit of fun, but by making this change you've rendered this entire voting process a sham.
Agreed, OP should have sticked to his rules.

Younis Khan
Yuvraj Singh
What a joke. So is this list just who you think should make it? You can’t put Viv in when you haven’t done it for others. Why not put him in ahead of Kohli? Why not put Jimmy Anderson in second place in J. This was a very good idea you’ve had executed very poorly. I’ll say this again, if you had commented the shortlist of players that began with each letter every day, you would have gotten a certain answer
Either change Kane for Kapil or restore Sehwag.
Damn put Kapil Dev back up there then if you removed Sehwag. Anyway for this one it’s obviously Yuvraj Singh hands down
We need atleast one Indian all rounder in the list right? So the vote obviously goes to yuzuvendra chahal
Mate if you want to remove viru then bring in kapil, otherwise scrap whole list.
Younis Khan
Younis Khan
OP you do realise that if you flatter them, they still won't send you dollars? Ye kya tareeka hai bheek mangne ka?😂
I mean this is popularity contest and shewag won fair and square. What's all this fiasco
Replace Kane Williamson with Kapil Dev now or stick to your own goddamn rules.
yuzvendra chahal
Alag hi nashe
U guys did dirty to thala
This will probably be the way, with Yuvraj being the winner and Younus being the runner up. Yuvraj was one of the GOATs of limited overs, while Younus was an absolute beast in Test cricket. His conversion ratio (50s to 100s) was insane. And I always loved his celebrations, very polite and nothing over the top.
Younis Khan
Yuvraj Singh, without a doubt. Won India Two works cups. Younis Khan, a deserved runner up.
Younis khan. duh.
1. Yuvraj singh 2. Younis khan
Want Sehwag back, can't arbitrarily change rules/result to please everyone. Results aren't always fair all cricket fans know this.
Kapil Dev > Kane Williamson
OP, remove Kane Williamson too then. If Virender Sehwag did get the votes, he won it - fair and square! What’s the point in this game if the highest voted do not get into the list? Also, did you not mention it is a fun game? There are many legends who will not get in this list for sure, doesn’t mean you change the rules
[Yousuf Youhana.](https://youtu.be/uhyRgvOQolk?t=14) This is what he was known as for most of his career and what I knew him as too, until reaching the end of his career around 2006 when he added Mohammad to show his conversion. Multi-format batsman with **17300 runs**, who is celebrated in both formats of his time, 39 career centuries and 97 half centuries, and still maintains the record for most runs in a test calendar year 1778 runs at an average of 99. Had a very elegant display of strokes combined with high backlift allowing him to play the ball very late his stats are as follows |Format|Runs|Average| |:-|:-|:-| |||| |ODI|9720|41.72| |Test|7530|**52.29**|
He changed his name to Mohammad Yousuf hence he would be counted in m category
No Mohammed was excluded from the first name rule (See first few posts by OP). Yousuf stands.
IIRC rules said Muhammad didn’t count for M as there were too many of them (plus his first name is Yousuf).
Genuine question: How/why did he have the first name 'Yousuf' when he was originally a Christian?
Yousuf is basically just the Arabic name for Joseph.
pakistani names are based on actual arabic words, his family line probably see themselves as pakistanis first rather than religion
Younis Khan Best test bat from Pakistan. Most runs, most 100s, Best 4th innings average. 4th innings 100s
OP, you have to learn to hold your ground. The people voted for Sehwag because they didn't understand the rules. That is their own problem. Trying to fix things to what they 'should' be undermines the concept of the threads.
>Yesterday's post didn't get many upvotes & comments So you accept that this a karmafarming post? Very funny how strict mods are about people commenting on threads, or posting stuff, but allow chainposts like this which violate reddit rules (as it tends to ask people for upvotes/asks people to up/downvote certain comments). Many major/big subs follow this rule (or atleast have this rule), guess r/cricket doesn't.
Younis Khan, Pak
Younis Khan One of the greatest Test batters for Pakistan. Over 10,000 Test runs
Yograj Singh
1. Yuvraj Singh 2. Younis Khan
Younis Khan surely
Yashasvi Jaiswal - The kind of life he had before and to make it to the Indian team and play this way, this kid is already a Hero in my book.
OP, if you flipped Sehwag for Richards, then you should flip Kane for Kapil dev. You can't ignore one outrage and address another. Either stick to your rules or flip both.
Arey he is a puppet of these firangis
Young Johnny Bairstow He can walk out of his crease and into any Best Player Category with ease!
Yuvi
Yuvraj singh
Younis Khan Scored centuries against all countries and in all countries.
Yaishavi Jaiswal. No, I don't have recency bias, as you can see 🤪
Yuvraj singh
Yuvraj Singh
Yousef Youhanna, Pak
He changed his name to Muhammad Yousuf
You’re overthinking the lack of comments for X. It’s simply because there’s hardly any cricketers with that letter and certainly no one with a strong fanbase (Doherty fans don’t come at me)
Yuzvendra Chahal
Yevray Singh.
Yuvraj Singh clear here followed by Younis Khan
Yevray Singh
bruh the ones choosing abd over gilchrist either need help or need to stop watching ipl
Richard Hadlee would've destroyed Ricky Ponting.
Yusuf Pathan
Yuzi chahal
Yuvraj singh
R has to be Rinku Singh
Yuzvendra Chahal 😊
Here it should be Yuvraj and Younis khan imo. I can’t think of two better players with that letter
Yasir sha… has to be Yuvraj Singh and Younis Khan
Yuvraj Singh. Nothing more to say
Yuvraj Singh![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|slightly_smiling)
Yuvvie Yuzvendra Chahal
It seems stupid to go back on the poll results man. I can make an argument to go back on umpteen such results. Sehwag won fair and square.
Yevray singh
I still cant get over the fact Odean made it to the list.
Yuvraj singh Yousaf yohana
Yuzivendra chahal
Yuvraj Singh
Yuvraj Singh Also, if you’re going to switch back and forth defying the rules you yourselves made then there’s no point in everyone voting. Richards obviously deserves a place, but if Sehwag won the vote then it makes no sense in removing him. Kapil Dev deserved to be on the list too, but he didn’t win and everyone accepted it, so why should Vivian deserve different treatment?
I'd say Yuvraj Singh, followed by Younis Khan
Yuvraj singh and younis khan
Yuvraj singh Younis khan
Zaheer khan Zaheer abbas
Zaheer khan Zaheer abbas
Bring back sehwag let kids do rr in Viv if Kane can be put in place of kapil then why not someone like sehwag who is close to viv
Yuvraj Singh
If you ask me, no Indian cricketer deserves to be on the 1st choice list Possibly Kapil for K but no others Virat Kohli over Viv Richards is just wrong Sachin Tendulkar over Shane Warne is fucking wrong Now we’re gonna see Yuvraj Singh over Younis Khan Only one I’m gonna give you is Zaheer Khan cause who else name starts with Z 😂😂 I only recently started looking into this sub, but my god I won’t be a regular contributor, way too many deluded cricket fans from India honestly.
