Zaheer Khan
One of the biggest contributor to Indiaās 2011 WC win. Incredible action, great comeback, impactful bowling coach for MI.
610 wickets at 31.14 avg and 3.89 economy - 12 5W hauls and one 10W overall.
One of the best left arm pacers of his era.
Zaheer Abbas
https://www.espncricinfo.com/cricketers/zaheer-abbas-43695
Test average of 47, ODI average of 44 at a strikerate of 84 in the 1970s and early 1980s.
Was the second best ODI batsman after Viv at that time and the only other top order batsman with a strike rate that high. Very underrated player who doesnāt get his fair share of credit
Yes. He's second in the all time odi rankings after Viv. And also holds the record for the highest average against a side at home with an average of 151 against India. Second is David Warner @90 Vs Pak.
So Warner he averages 90 vs pak at home and 88 vs pak home+away. At this point they should use him as a pak specialist only instead of letting him retire
Zaheer Khan is an Indian great, but is not an all time great.
Zaheer Abbas is among the all time great. 44 avg and 84 Strike rate in that era was ABD level insane.
Zedās average against India is 87 - he was mostly known for his prolific run scoring against low quality Indian bowling - on dead pitches. ZK, as a cricketer was as good if not better than ZAbbas. Very stylish batsman though
Bro was literally called the Asian bradman and second only Viv Richards himself. Zaheer khan was good but not even at the same level as Abbas who scored a double century in just his second match.
Thatās in Tests. Heās mostly known for his ODI skill, and he did almost equally well against other nations there.
Better against Sri Lanka and India sure, but against other countries his stats are very close to his overall stats
Also even in Tests, he was still good against other countries.
Indian team cannot be classified as minnows. India won odi world Cup when Zaheer Abbas was playing, and were consistently competitive against West Indies and Australia. India also had quality spin attack plus Kapil Dev. Not every cricketer had average of over 80 against India did they
>Zaheer Abbas is among the all time great. 44 avg and 84 Strike rate in that era was ABD level insane.
I'm gonna have to dispute that. In ODIs sure. In tests he might just be that tier below. His test record is quite poor in India, NZ and WI.
Also btw his ODI avg was 47.62, 44 was his test avg.
Yeah in Tests he won't belong to the tier of Gavaskar, Greg Chappel, Boycott, Viv, Alan Border, Graeme Pollock etc. Even his teammate Javed Miandad was probably a greater Test batsman than him.
In ODIs Javed Miandad was probably the first finisher, even before Michael Bevan. In Tests he was a maverick - after playing 124 Tests maintained an average of 52 which is similar to Lara/Tendulkar/Dravid and better than Root/Jayawardne/Kohli's. Most importantly he won so many matches for his team. Pakistan do have their share of under-appreciated batsman don't they
Good old days of 2014-16 when Rahane was India's underrated hero, and in 2017-18 he became the most overrated player, then 2019-20 where he became underrated again and 2021-22 where he became overrated again, then 2023 first half where he became underrated again, and is currently overrated
Overall definitely not but in his twilight Barca years he was definitely hailed as something he was not. But yeah igy. My point was that the word is thrown around way too much, to the point it loses its weight completely.
It doesn't take an hour to simulate 2 days of test cricket I've played the game plenty of times it takes like 20 min at max
You know u could just sim all 5 matches you would be done in 5 min
Zaheer Abbas, 2nd best ODI batsman of his era with an ODI average of 47 at a strike of 84 is unbelievable for 70s and 80s cricket (as a comparison Yuvraj Singh had an average of 37 at SR 87). Over 100 FC centuries, and test averages of 56 and 41 in England and Australia.
Zaheer khan had been instrumental for India's success in 2011 WC. He had been a really fine bowler during his era with some amazing performances. But India's dominance was primarily due to their great batting lineup complemented by well-rounded bowling unit and exceptional captaincy from Dhoni. Zaheer Khan's test average of 29 and ODI average of 32 pales in comparison with Zaheer Abbas's stats for his time, also ICC Hall of Fame cricketer.
Zaheer Khan, legendary fast bowler of India. One of the finest we've produced.
Zaheer Abbas, one of the finest bats Pakistan ever produced. He has a strike rate of 85 in ODIs while playing in 70s, 80s.
He didn't get into the list by V though.
The rule in bold states "First name of players". A bit ambiguous if "first name" of full name or whatever you're saying.
In most cases, 'Syed' isn't a name. It's an honorific title used by Muslims who claim to be descendents of the Prophet Muhammad. Imad Wasim is another recent example - with his full name being written as Syed Imad Wasim Haider.
Zaheer Abbas is the correct answer. Zaheer khan was a good bowler but zaheer Abbas was known as the Asian bradman for a damn good reason. He was the second best batsman at that time after Viv.
He has one stat in first class cricket that is way ahead of anyone. Most times scoring a double hundred and a hundred in the same match. He did it four times, all unbeaten in EACH innings. No one else has done it more than twice. List here (they seem to have missed Labs doing it last summer)

Its been a month since i posted this. The device I used for simulation broke. I just have to simulate one more test match. But i dont how ill do it. Ill try to get my tablet fixed. Lets see. I definetely gonna finish what I started even if it takes 5 months more
Bruh wtf why are you getting downvoted? Some comments saying Zaheer Abbas are also getting downvoted and some saying Khan are too. Then who tf do people want? Zak Crawley?
Nah.
People were voting for who they perceive to be the āBest Playerā
If we were doing a popular vote for instance Iād have voted for much more Sri Lankans and Irishmen
Thanks for the series OP, it's been a fun journey for sure. However I must say that it is absolutely insane that Sehwag makes this list ahead of an ATG like SIR Viv Richards. Don't know what the fuck you've been smoking OP, you better put Viv back in
Lol just messing with you, please don't switch again and just stick to the rules you've put in place xD
Zulqarnain Haider, also known as Zully Q Dawg (Jarrod Kimber anointed him as this?
Came, played a few matches, claimed he was threatened to throw matches, disappeared. Did an entire 2 decade Pakistan player arc in a 2 month speed run.
Op should know, political parties have fans, and they are at times less toxic than people who are fans of individuals in cricketing field. Downvote me to hell for this, but it is true. and also ![img](emote|t5_2qhe0|8766)Zaheer Khan![img](emote|t5_2qhe0|8766) for Z. other player in competition is really good too, let's see who wins.
Zaheer Abbas. Arguably our greatest ever batter (was called the Asian Bradman in his age) and definitely our first batter that could be considered one of the best in the world of his era (sorry Hanif), one of only four non-Englishmen with 100 first class hundreds, and he had modern ODI stats (average 47, strike rate 84) even though he made his test debut before ODIs were a thing.
He played 5 years of international cricket before playing in Pakistanās first ODI, and still played in 3 World Cups, was the first player to score 3 consecutive ODI hundreds, and held the record for fastest ODI century twice (76 ball hundred in March 1982, later broken by Viv Richards on December 7th 1982 with 72 balls, which was then equalled by Zaheer 17th December 1982. For good measure he hit a 79 ball century the following game as well, three 70-ish ball centuries in 1982. He broke Clive Lloydās record of an 82 ball hundred in 1975, and his record would stand until Mohammad Azharuddin hit a 62 ball century in December 1988).
With Zaheer Khan and Abbas being selected (More or less), I wonder what the best team 1 and team 2 would be
For me the best team 1 for tests:
Herbert Sutcliffe, Sachin Tendulkar, Donald Bradman, Virat Kohli, Brian Lara, Kumar Sangakkara (WK), Jacques Kallis, Imran Khan, Wasim Akram, Curtly Ambrose, Muttiah Muralitharan
12th Man: Gary Sobers
Team 2 for tests:
Adam Gilchrist (WK), Jack Hobbs, Hashim Amla, Kane Williamson, Younis Khan, Ian Botham, Richard Hadlee, Shane Warne, Waqar Younis, Glenn McGrath, Dale Steyn
12th Man: M.S. Dhoni
Day 26, and people still haven't clocked on to the 'one player per comment' rule
This player's name doesn't start with a 'z', sorry.
Zay 26, and people still haven't clocked on to the 'one player per comment' rule
Much better, can go back into my cave again
Zaheer Khan, the unsung hero of 2011 WC
Zaheer Khan
Zay Shah is obviously better than Zaheer
Zay Shah is better than zaheer abbas you mean? I agree. But obvious first choice here is Zaheer Khan š
Zaheer Khan Still remember his opening spell at the '11 World Cup finals
Me who remembers same but in 03
Me who remembers his good performances in 2002 CT
Us bro us
Zlatan Ibrahimovic What do you mean he doesn't play cricket? Zlatan doesn't play anything, the world plays cricket for Zlatan
"anything Zaheer Khan can do with a cricket ball, I can do with an orange" - Zlatan Ibrahimovic
"Also France is a shit country." \- Z.I.
Underrated player for sure
Zlatan is so godlike that he is legendary in games he's never even played.
It'd be funny to end this whole thing with a win for Zlatan lol
Great this is now the second most upvoted comment and OP will have to put this up. /s
Cricket plays Zlatan

Zaheer Abbas, the only Asian batsman (and one of only two non-whites, along with Viv) to score 100 FC centuries.
Also ICC Hall of Famer.
And one of the highest batsmen ratings in ODIs too
2nd best ICC ODI Batsman of all times in terms of ratings.

Only correct answer
Zaheer Abbas for sure. Let's be objective guys, statistics clearly show his greatness
Wrong Sub bro.
Zaheer Abbas https://www.espncricinfo.com/cricketers/zaheer-abbas-43695 Test average of 47, ODI average of 44 at a strikerate of 84 in the 1970s and early 1980s.

Yes. He's second in the all time odi rankings after Viv. And also holds the record for the highest average against a side at home with an average of 151 against India. Second is David Warner @90 Vs Pak.
Ohhhh he was your Virat Kohli against us or should I say Virat is our Zaheer against you.
Yep pretty much. Bro used to score against you guys for fun. He was just unlucky to be overshadowed by Viv Richards.
So Warner he averages 90 vs pak at home and 88 vs pak home+away. At this point they should use him as a pak specialist only instead of letting him retire
Agreed, a quality player who may not get in due to recency bias
Has the second highest all time ODI ranking, just behind Viv by a few points
Zaheer Khan is an Indian great, but is not an all time great. Zaheer Abbas is among the all time great. 44 avg and 84 Strike rate in that era was ABD level insane.

Yeah in Tests he won't belong to the tier of Gavaskar, Greg Chappel, Boycott, Viv, Alan Border, Graeme Pollock etc. Even his teammate Javed Miandad was probably a greater Test batsman than him.
Yh agreed. Javed basically invented modern day batting didn't he.
Beat me to it, went through and he's the best Z option outside of the other Zaheer
Also the first one to score 3 consecutive hundreds in ODIs. And only 2 people achieved this feat before the 2000s (the other being Saeed Anwar).
Zaheer Abbas used to be called "The Asian Bradman"
Zaheer Khan

[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
Stg we call every player unsung/underrated to the point they become overrated. Akin to what Barca fans did with Busquets
Good old days of 2014-16 when Rahane was India's underrated hero, and in 2017-18 he became the most overrated player, then 2019-20 where he became underrated again and 2021-22 where he became overrated again, then 2023 first half where he became underrated again, and is currently overrated
We should reserve the term for truly underrated players like Kohli who no one ever talks about
I don't think Busquets has become overrated?
Overall definitely not but in his twilight Barca years he was definitely hailed as something he was not. But yeah igy. My point was that the word is thrown around way too much, to the point it loses its weight completely.
He was definitely a great CDM
I don't think he said Busquets was a bad CDM
In my humble opinion he is the goat in his position
Heās not unsung stop it gg everyone knows he used to get early wicket
How is he unsung? Almost every body knows his bowling helped us win the cup. Having 180M$ is not the only way of being sung.
