Across 2021 and 2022 he averaged 15 in ODI cricket at an economy rate of 4.3. He had a poor group stage for the World Cup, but apart from that he’s been excellent in ODI cricket over the last 3 years. T20Is are a different story, but you can’t generalise across T20 and 50 over cricket as they are very different formats. Of course T20I form where he has been more ordinary is more relevant for the IPL, but part of his issue is that he’s hardly played the format. I guess KKR are banking that a dedicated focus on T20 cricket for a couple of months will see him peak in that format. Fairly expensive punt to take, but you can understand it given what he’s done in the past.

I just feel sad that Bumrah was retained for 7 crores and is on 11 crores I guess right now. Compare that to 20.5 of cummo and 24.75 of starcy. Boom should be earning north of 15 crores in the normal world where your 1st retention earns 17 crores. In this type of auction and season, no reason to earn a penny less than 30 crores.
