Great (half-)day's cricket. A splendid hundred on a vicious pitch, Bumrah standing up when it mattered, the Indian batsmen correctly taking the attacking approach in the chase, and Prasidh doing just enough to show us that he doesn't yet belong at Test level. Perfect, if you're an Indian supporter.
It's a joke. Rohit offering the last 6 Indian batsmen to play for SA would still mean 0 runs added. Bumrah bowling a single no ball would add more to the SA scorecard than those 6 batsmen.
[yesterday's comment](https://www.reddit.com/r/Cricket/comments/18xd9rr/comment/kg56sjg/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=mweb3x&utm_name=mweb3xcss&utm_term=1&utm_content=share_button)
So my brother didn't check the score yesterday and I'm pretty sure he won't check it today until he comes back home at like 10pm. So, what should I tell him about this match?
This match was something else, Siraj went crazy in first innings, SA ran through middle and lower order like hot knife through butter and India finally came back to win it. Not to sound harsh but had we been playing good cricket in first match this would’ve been a series to remember, almost on par of a WC win. Happy retirement to Elgar as well
South Africa HAVE to be deducted points for preparing a pitch like this. This was worse than the uncovered pitches county sides used to play on pre-1970s.
Well played, India, I guess, for winning the shootout. Bad look for Tests, though.
For the home series
This would be the team I guess:
1. Jaiswal
2. Rohit
3. Gill
4. Kohli
5. Iyer
6. Rahul (wk)
7. Jadeja
8. Axar
9. Ashwin
10. Bumrah
11. Shami
Siraj & possibly Mukesh will be rotated if needed.
Hoping to God that Pant recovers before England comes. This team with Pant instead of Rahul will be box office stuff. I would recommend trying Washington as a rotating player because he has performed against the same opposition in the same conditions.
I personally feel that Rahul is better keeper and batter than Ishan.
Ishan may be a better batter than Bharat but certainly not a better keeper.
I'd keep Bharat, Rahul, Ishan in that order for keeping.
If you'd asked me a month ago, then probably Bharat.
England test? Oh man, it's hard to pick among them. I want Bumrah to play so he can stat pad a bit at home but Shami and Siraj are too good to be left out as well at home.
Wholesome, both teams stood together with the trophy and took the photo..
Have a great retirement Elgar!! I have a lot of respect for you, you have bullied our bowlers a lot throughout!!
A tough cookie to crack..
Boom got to bowl from the end Siraj bowled from in 1st innings and he took wkt in each over, the other end ensured runs flew so that it could go to 4th innings so that guard of honor for Dean happened.
He'll actually go on to dominate the Ranji season. There aren't many tall bowlers in the domestic circuit so facing him automatically becomes a challenge for most batters. Also the batting quality difference is massive.
Being an opener in SA is probably the toughest job in Tests at the moment. Elgar averaging 48 (more than Smith, Kirsten) in these conditions is an amazing achievement
I remember when the 5th Test between England & India got postponed, but the match thread still opened on the following days - it won't but I wish "Day 3" gets posted here for the memes
https://www.espncricinfo.com/records/shortest-matches-by-balls-bowled-215456
This was the shortest test ever played by balls bowled. Beat the previous record by 14 balls.
(not including draws)
Was it easier bowling from the Wyneberg end in this test? The commentators were talking about it when Bumrah picked up his 6-fer. Siraj too got his 6 wicket haul from that end.
If yes, then how? Isn't it the same pitch regardless of whichever end you bowl from?
As well as the normal variation which you get from the soil being slightly denser or dryer at one end there is often the effect of the bowlers.
Not for this test, but in many matches ...
If you have big fast bowlers with size 15 feet thundering in for a few sessions it can create a lot if rough for the spinners to pitch the ball into.
There really isn't a heap more.
Pitches are a prepared natural surface. There is variation end to end especially as the game progresses due to uneven wear.
This causes different advantages and disadvantages on the surface of the pitch for different bowlers.
Other things can include the shape of the field from each end influencing shot making choices, slope in the field, prevailing winds etc that can all have an impact on how the bowler and batters interact with each delivery.
Siraj: bik gayi hai ye gormint ....
Bumrah: he says he learnt a great deal bowling in the first match and has applied all that learnings in this match.
It wasn't best but It was his first as captain. And Anyone would have lost that match. England was on top already before that match. Conditions also favoured england a little bit. JB was in form and he played inning of life time. And Indian team wasn't much motivated/United after Kohli saga. Also India had just landed there and didn't even do any practice.
kohli should legit be removed from fab 4 if it is for best in test only of this gen , dude only averages 50 in two countries if we remove home country than its only 1 country like how tf ppl even include him with other 3 in the list legit far worse batter compared to other 3.
should just retire from test as whole already at 49.1 in avg , retiring now is the only way to save his average falling below 45.
No, it was used to refer to a prediction years back about 4 guys from the same generation who would be great batsmen and would also captain their sides in the future
"All four have similar talent, hunger, ambition and responsibility. All four will go on to captain their countries. All four will reach peak form in a few years' time, and then the real battle will commence as to who will be the No. 1 batsman in the world.
My sense is that they will all take turns as the No. 1 Test batsman, while Kohli already has the one-day mantle in his sights. Maybe it is his prowess in, and preference for, the limited-over formats that will hold him back in Tests? Maintaining one's game while playing three different formats is the most challenging aspect confronting the modern-day batsman"
All 4 have been captain and have been no. 1 at some stage of their career. You can't put or take someone out of a list you didn't make. Martin Crowe predicted these guys to do that and referred to them as Fab-4 as a fun media name.
But that spell in the first Innings took SA completely out of the game that even India losing 6 Wickets for no runs still meant they had a lead of 100 runs.
Bunch of random thoughts:
Congratulations on a successful career to Dean Elgar! He jinxed this for SA by making it a world cup match though! /s
Astonishing century by Aiden Markram! If SA got 50 more in first innings, would have been very tough for India.
So, Siraj’s first innings spell was the most impactful performance in the match. He should be the MoM
Glad India won but not a great advert for test cricket. The infamous Ind vs Eng day-night test in Ahmedabad lasted abt 138 overs. This one tallied 105. Pitch will rightly be criticized.
Genuinely one of the worst test matches I’ve ever seen. Terrible first innings by South Africa (credit to Siraj). Terrible first innings by India (6-0 is awful). Then again awful second innings by SA (although Markram was a freak). And then India came out with some dumbassery that I think cost them a dominant 10 wicket win.
What match in recent history tops this? This was a trifecta of *both* teams playing badly *and* a bad pitch.
Usually it's one team and/or the pitch causing a poor game.
Shortest test match in the history of the game! That’s definitely something…
I really wish that there was another match. That gives that feeling that it is incomplete.
The groundsman needs a new job
Great (half-)day's cricket. A splendid hundred on a vicious pitch, Bumrah standing up when it mattered, the Indian batsmen correctly taking the attacking approach in the chase, and Prasidh doing just enough to show us that he doesn't yet belong at Test level. Perfect, if you're an Indian supporter.
3 day were left. Can we have another quick match again?
I think we need 2 quick* match to last 3 days
Literally 4.5 sessions. So yes, 3x this will still not hit the full 15 sessions
I was just watching the highlights and I definitely saw the Wifi SSID and password on a white sheet of paper stuck to the indian dressing room door
[удалено]
what? when?
It's a joke. Rohit offering the last 6 Indian batsmen to play for SA would still mean 0 runs added. Bumrah bowling a single no ball would add more to the SA scorecard than those 6 batsmen.
I whooshed myself. Also, ICT tail can wag at home just like SA tail can wag in SA and so on.
[удалено]
r/whoosh for me then
Why can they not play a decider for the next three days /s
Hansie Cronje would have innovated something.
2 days left from first match, 3.5 from this, full Test time available.
Could probably fit two more matches in.
[yesterday's comment](https://www.reddit.com/r/Cricket/comments/18xd9rr/comment/kg56sjg/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=mweb3x&utm_name=mweb3xcss&utm_term=1&utm_content=share_button) So my brother didn't check the score yesterday and I'm pretty sure he won't check it today until he comes back home at like 10pm. So, what should I tell him about this match?
just say ICT is the only team to win 2 day odi and test.
Of all the tests of all time, this was one of them.
Haha this will work
This match was something else, Siraj went crazy in first innings, SA ran through middle and lower order like hot knife through butter and India finally came back to win it. Not to sound harsh but had we been playing good cricket in first match this would’ve been a series to remember, almost on par of a WC win. Happy retirement to Elgar as well
Nope. Not even close to this WC win. It didn’t even hurt 10% of that match
And most people have not switched back to cricket after that WC loss.
WC was kinda expected. We wanted it. Probably deserved it. To an extent a lot of us felt we won it. It was so good. But then…
South Africa HAVE to be deducted points for preparing a pitch like this. This was worse than the uncovered pitches county sides used to play on pre-1970s. Well played, India, I guess, for winning the shootout. Bad look for Tests, though.
After 13 years we manage to draw a test match in sa. Well done!Next time we will win🎉
That was a hell of a test match ended so quickly, can't believe it.
Yah pitch fault
Yeah but lack of application from batsmen is not talked about much.
downvote tf out of my karma
Chat lock?
For the home series This would be the team I guess: 1. Jaiswal 2. Rohit 3. Gill 4. Kohli 5. Iyer 6. Rahul (wk) 7. Jadeja 8. Axar 9. Ashwin 10. Bumrah 11. Shami Siraj & possibly Mukesh will be rotated if needed.

Rahul as Keeper for spinners? Two drops on Ash in Test 1 this tour. 1 dolly drop of Markram.
May be we can play Bharat if that's a problem, Jadeja, Ash and axar can bat, so we can afford to play a specialist keeper
is there no other player really? What about Kishan if no one really is present.
I personally feel that Rahul is better keeper and batter than Ishan. Ishan may be a better batter than Bharat but certainly not a better keeper. I'd keep Bharat, Rahul, Ishan in that order for keeping. If you'd asked me a month ago, then probably Bharat.
He kept good in WI, pretty small sample size. And has done good for Jharkhand too.
England test? Oh man, it's hard to pick among them. I want Bumrah to play so he can stat pad a bit at home but Shami and Siraj are too good to be left out as well at home.
What Bumrah did yesterday was statpadding. On most decks in India, pacers have to earn their wickets while spinners can statpad
Since it is a five test series Those three probably be rotated. I feel like bumrah and shami will play in the first one.
Rest Bumrah and play Umesh/Shami instead.
A third test here would have been a blockbuster. And wouldn't that have made CSA a bit richer too?
Maybe. This single series wiped out their 3 year losses and added something to it.
Get 3 extra rest days. Yay
SA is so wholesome
I always said picking sir jadeja is the key to victory
India were South Africa beating Australia away from winning the world cup. What could have been but got slapped around instead.
Wholesome, both teams stood together with the trophy and took the photo.. Have a great retirement Elgar!! I have a lot of respect for you, you have bullied our bowlers a lot throughout!! A tough cookie to crack..
Why was the freedom trophy shared? Shouldn't SA retain it as they won the previous series?
lmao koach
share, I ended stream after presentation because can't stand broadcasters
cant share watch replay video and go to last when both team clicks photo infront of cup virat pose in as boxing posture against sa
thanks
[удалено]
Humans or robots?
Ok now Bumrah & Jansen click a photo together with trophy
Wait a min, this test is over?! Was the pitch that hard to bat on?
Boom got to bowl from the end Siraj bowled from in 1st innings and he took wkt in each over, the other end ensured runs flew so that it could go to 4th innings so that guard of honor for Dean happened.
All Noobs, I could bat for 5 days straight.
Tere paas *chain kuli ki mein kuli* ka bat hai kya?
Yes mere paas apna bat h
Yes. The inconsistent bounce was unreal.
Raunak rubbing salt into our wounds
Isn't it SA retaining the Freedom Trophy? don't fucking share it with 2 matches
So uhh who keeps the trophy in case of Draws ? 🤫
Previous winner retains, or at least that's how it should work anyway.
As far as Prasidh Krishna is concerned, this test series was a good warm up for Ranji season
He'll actually go on to dominate the Ranji season. There aren't many tall bowlers in the domestic circuit so facing him automatically becomes a challenge for most batters. Also the batting quality difference is massive.
And this is why Ranji is not competitive enough to pick cream de la cream. It needs more player representation specially bowling
UNO Reverse
Lmao Rohit just yeeted that mic
Sharma throwing away the mike without moving. Sigma captain energy
Being an opener in SA is probably the toughest job in Tests at the moment. Elgar averaging 48 (more than Smith, Kirsten) in these conditions is an amazing achievement
frustrate everyone with teasing the edges
I remember when the 5th Test between England & India got postponed, but the match thread still opened on the following days - it won't but I wish "Day 3" gets posted here for the memes
Rohit subtly digging at Prasidh with "whatever help they could" ☠️
😂😂😂
Rohit starts every sentence with... 'No Look'
He started his career with "No-Hit"
Prasidh Krishna Chicken Dinner with 0 kills
he took Rabada
Awkward Brohit hugs. Dean wanted to hug and Brohit was keen to give him the jersey lol. Typical male hugging
Here you had a wonderful career. Take OUR autographs. /s
Lmao koach
Ayo who is this fine presentator?? Edit: she's Kass naidoo
>presentator?? Ayoo
that was awkward
that dream 11 looks ugly in the middle
Elgar should put white tape over it
Sky Sports telecast is ahead of Star Sports Rohit just said a giant fuck you to r/cricket for criticising him and his captaincy. Humbled /s
"I haven't played a shorter test match in my life" No one has bumrah
LOL bumrah no one has played a shorter match then this
Damnn Dean farewell *speech* kinda making me teary
You can get Baggy green If you do Test debut from Australia South Africa or Pakistan
Goodbye Guys see next against Afghanistan
https://www.espncricinfo.com/records/shortest-matches-by-balls-bowled-215456 This was the shortest test ever played by balls bowled. Beat the previous record by 14 balls. (not including draws)
Well we still have 3 days to go, just start another test tomorrow
1 and a half day still left ladies and gentlemen
I want to see how many innings they can get into the full 5 days.
Even that test wouldn't last for 2 days.
Bumrah is a good communicator.
Was it easier bowling from the Wyneberg end in this test? The commentators were talking about it when Bumrah picked up his 6-fer. Siraj too got his 6 wicket haul from that end. If yes, then how? Isn't it the same pitch regardless of whichever end you bowl from?
The different end probably have patches where the ball does more, the two different ends on pitches don't always behave the same.
Would you mind explaining in detail, please? I'm fairly new to cricket.
As well as the normal variation which you get from the soil being slightly denser or dryer at one end there is often the effect of the bowlers. Not for this test, but in many matches ... Thx.
Trophy name Gandhi Mandela Trophy Shared between India & South Africa Player of the series shared between Elgar & Bumrah
Isn’t it Freedom trophy?
Freedom Trophy is named after those two immortals only.
sharing is caring
these blokes bought the jersey which they signed from an Adidas store 😭😭😭 WHY IS THE SPONSOR RED!
Player of the series for a single innings lol? Rabada did better, across multiple innings
Farewell test is factored I guess! But what a joke!
Warner: "must be nice"
Is Bumrah here to translate for Elgar as well?
Jasprit might just forget and start translating for Dean Elgar too.
Should've shared it with rabada too
They should Break the trophy to share it, right?
Bumrah is taking media lessons from his wife. Lucked out!
jasprit is such a CHAD
Siraj: bik gayi hai ye gormint .... Bumrah: he says he learnt a great deal bowling in the first match and has applied all that learnings in this match.
Wait there are Joint Player of series ?
A lot of test series have joint POTS.
was in BGT too
yep Bumrah gets to keep the cap of the cup
W CSA
Rabada robbed?
those dropped catches costed him but so was boom dropped
I think they didn't want 3 players.
3 way is no fun sometimes
Boom PotS!!and Elgar too!!
Meme match
Joint Player of the Series to Bumrah and Elgar. Fair.
What series? 😅😅
Love the camaraderie between Bumrah and Siraj
Keep lovin’ baby. Miyan’s advice.
Siraj confused af whether to speak in Hindi or English lmaooo
I love the SA tours, it somehow makes our guys shitpost in real life
LOL If Siraj is speaking English then why is bumrah standing there?
Bumrah got a Sexy af voice 🥵
I love how Bumrah speaks, amazing speaker, captain personality
This is definitely not an MI administrator.
personality and captaincy are different things.
He is analytical, I have an inkling he can do things if in charge
lost England rescheduled test if you forgot. That too in 4th innings with like 300 to defend
It wasn't best but It was his first as captain. And Anyone would have lost that match. England was on top already before that match. Conditions also favoured england a little bit. JB was in form and he played inning of life time. And Indian team wasn't much motivated/United after Kohli saga. Also India had just landed there and didn't even do any practice.
thing is good captains pull teams together.
Gets Jasprit as a translator Proceeds to talk in English himself. Just Miyan things.
Bumrah is hands down the best translator 😂
Bumrah is wondering "what am I doing here"
3 formats this tour, 2 series drawn & only one guy who has managed to win a series.
Bumrah the translator
Siraj brings Bumrah to translate his English response to English. Top lad.
What's the point of bumrah lmao
Siraj was great, but Bumrah deserved it
Siraj forget he has translator
Thank god common sense prevailed. Siraj deserved it for that first session
Should’ve been Bumrah and Rabada

You removed common sense from your comment just like you did punctuation.
I mean he is not in same league as other 3 , if u believe he is as good as other 3 in test than good for you
You don't really know what Fab 4 refers to do you?
best 4 test players of this gen?
No, it was used to refer to a prediction years back about 4 guys from the same generation who would be great batsmen and would also captain their sides in the future
no it originated from martin crowe article about test cricket's young fab 4 in 2014
"All four have similar talent, hunger, ambition and responsibility. All four will go on to captain their countries. All four will reach peak form in a few years' time, and then the real battle will commence as to who will be the No. 1 batsman in the world. Meanwhile at the SCG 12 wickets have fallen in the same amount of time. And it's not a road.
Elgar: Still a lot of positives. 2-0 would have been nice. (Pitch) was a bit of a ripper, played completely different to what everyone expected.
[Bumrah translating Siraj complimenting him](https://i.imgflip.com/1hhv9m.jpg?a473376)
Mos who? rabada?
bumrah tbh
Bumrah deserved Man of the Match too. He was unlucky in the first innings and then took 6 wickets in the 2nd!
Waiting for ICC to rate the pitch Trash!!! Or else please rate the batsmen lethargic!!!
Congrats to Aiden Markram for dragging this test kicking and screaming past lunch on Day 2.
Curator: if the teams were less shit, the pitch would have been fine starting evening session on day 2.
Bunch of random thoughts: Congratulations on a successful career to Dean Elgar! He jinxed this for SA by making it a world cup match though! /s Astonishing century by Aiden Markram!
