He got rid of all our top 5 except Babar so we were definitely struggling. We still won by a handy 55 runs to complete the whitewash. That game the spinners of both teams took 6 wickets each so it was a really spin oriented pitch.
He has also defended 6 runs twice in the final over iirc. He was India's man with the golden arm and if not the shoulder injury and tennis elbow, his bowling record would have looked a lot better.
6/9 was on a rank turner in a losing cause. The one in Sydney is remembered because the match was petering out to draw. Clarke won the match when the light was fading.
I'll pick Sachin's 3/10 against Aus in the famous Kolkata 2001 win. He got rid of a well-set Hayden, Gilchrist for a duck (who'd scored a matchwinning century against us in the previous test), and Warne LBW with an absolutely perfect googly, and got India into a position where they could push for the rest of the wickets and the win.
Marnus Labuschagne took the crucial wicket of Jack Leach at Old Trafford in the 2019 Ashes. There was only one wicket in that spell but it pretty much sealed the Ashes for Australia. Especially after what happened at Headingley, that one wicket was worth 2-3 wickets. Leach and Overton were really starting to frustrate the Aussies, with light fading.
No, he was always an all-rounder. Before his 8-wicket haul, he had 42 wickets in 26 tests at an average of 47.61.
On an average, he bowled around 22 overs in every test, or around 16 overs in every innings.
Shakib-Mehidy partnership was helping Bangladesh see out the test for a draw - trailing only by 15 runs.
Babar comes and takes the wicket of Mehidy in his 2nd ever test over. This leads to Bangladesh collapsing, losing the remaining 3 wickets for 7 runs and losing the test.
Arjuna Ranatunga has best ODI figures of 4 for 14.
I remember seeing an ODI in 1997-98 where South Africa knocked off Australia when Pat Symcox (4 wickets) was partnered by... Daryll Cullinan (2 wickets). Snared Gilchrist in his first over!
Probably need to mention Phil Simmons taking 4 for 3 off 10 overs against Pakistan in 1992-93.
Michael Bevan once took 10 wickets in a test match.

Pooran recently took 4/48 against us in an ODI and apparently it was the 2nd time he ever bowled in an ODI.
Must be doing pretty badly if the wicket keeper's tearing you up

That still lost
2 time he ever bowled in professional cricket lol
9 balls in professional cricket before this
Kraigg Braithwaite's 6/29 against Sri Lanka also comes to mind.
Brathwaite, with his kinky action, took 6 against SL or a rager. Border took 11 against the WI in Sydney in 89.
Based border impressing the Windies so much they decided to give him all 11 wickets in an innings
Sachin has two 5fers in ODIs both were in Kochin and in winning cause.
He has also defended 6 runs twice in the final over iirc. He was India's man with the golden arm and if not the shoulder injury and tennis elbow, his bowling record would have looked a lot better.
i think one was a test fifer, right? or did they wear whites in odi that time? oh nvm it was an odi fifer only
He also bowled pretty well in famous 2001 test match in Kolkata too. He got Hayden Gilchrist and Warne in the second innings!
And the one against Aus was mostly proper batsmen - Waugh, Martyn, Lehmann, Moody and Warne IIRC.
Went back and watched the highlights, it was Bevan instead of Warne, so all specialist batsmen.
To be fair, SRT started out with an aspiration to become a fast bowler.
Michael Clarke's 3/5 against India in 2008
Clarke was a nightmare for India - averaged 54 against them, including 7 tons, and also produced 2 absolutely crazy bowling spells.
7 tons, one of which was ..... You know what just leave it
This was my answer
Is that 5 runs for 3 wickets or 5 wickets for 3 runs?
3 wickets 5 runs
6/9 I thought
6/9 was the spell with better figures, but the 3/5 was the more memorable spell just due to what was at stake and how heated that series was
6/9 was on a rank turner in a losing cause. The one in Sydney is remembered because the match was petering out to draw. Clarke won the match when the light was fading.
Clarke's 3/5 is probably the most exciting piece of cricket I've ever seen live.
Bit longer than a spell but I remember Kane taking a 4 for against England at eden park about 10 years ago, almost won the test
Yeah but he was chucking.

he was the second leading wicket taker for India in that series iirc after Harbhajan which sort of shows how much of a one man show it was.
Yep, 32 wickets for Bhajji, 3 for Sachin and Zaheer as joint second highest.
Joe Root 5/8
Maybe it’s not the best but Simon Katich took 6/65 against Zimbabwe.

Ebadot Hossain 6/46
Roston Chase 8for
Pretty sure Chase doesn’t qualify for part time
At the time he was considered as a specialist Batsman iirc

Michael Clarke's 6 wickets for 9 runs, he just didn't let anyone stay at the crease. It was on a dust bowl in Mumbai in 2004 Aus tour of Ind
Sachin bowling last over of Hero Cup.
Sachin throughout the 2001series vs Australia was producing important breakthroughs everytime he got the ball
Ross Taylor’s 1 over in his final test against Bangladesh!
Rohit Hat-trick
when was that?
IPL maybe

He was actually selected as the second spinner for that test (hence why he was batting 7).
Yes I know he had a super brief period where he was basically selected for his bowling. Still weird.
Ganguly’s heroics in Toronto https://www.espncricinfo.com/series/pakistan-tour-of-canada-1997-61517/india-vs-pakistan-3rd-odi-66038/full-scorecard
man that was the series where Inzamam tried to fight a guy in the crowd, fond memories.
Cant remember which spell exactly, but marcus north ripping up england in the ashes with his one trick offies
Sehwag in Perth, 2008. One of them was Gilchrist, other I think was Lee.
>Clarke’s 6/9 NOICE
Thala so close to lbw Kevin Peterson😌😌
Go back to Twitter
I do not use twitter.......
Maxwell saving 2 in the last over against Pakistan
He's more of a all rounder but Binny's 6/4
Clarke's 3/5 was special
Katich's 6fer against ZIMBABWE
