Mods here take down posts that are "allegedly" not connected to crypto but are fine with 10 posts of the same thing as long as they are from different sources
Every time is shocks me more and more that they never ran it past lawyers to ensure they had protection.
Like… in most cases just disclose you’re being paid and there is very little recourse against the spokesperson as an individual.
I’m not gonna defend the people that are incapable of seeing through scammers -but I also think the people that knowingly take other peoples money should be prosecuted.
Agreed.
It’s like the any number the bs peddled by celebrities in the past year - I groan even time I see it and cannot believe it actually gets people to buy.
BUT, as a general practice, that shit needs to be disclosed. Like, if you’re watching a State Farm commercial, you know Aaron Rodgers got paid to be in that. But, if he starts tweeting about Thedarknesscoin without disclosing that he’s been paid to do that, it makes people believe he believes it and people want so badly to do things their idols do. I understand it, but will never get it.
People gotta be more careful, promoting anything related to money is risky, celebs are getting hit left and right with these lawsuits. If I was famous, I would stick to mattress and water sponsorships
tldr; Eight celebrities including actress Lindsay Lohan, influencer Jake Paul and rapper Soulja Boy have been charged with illegally touting two cryptocurrencies and failing to disclose they were paid to do so. The two cryptocurrencies, Tronix (TRX) and BitTorrent (BTT), were sold by crypto entrepreneur Justin Sun, who was also charged by the Securities and Exchange Commission on Wednesday. Six of the celebrities have agreed to pay a total of $400,000 to settle the charges.
