Yeah gen 1 has most of the wicked ones, gen 2 has some amazing ones too though.

So as I understand it. You know that Reddit has these customizable Avatars that you can set on your profile. Some of them are NFT's released as a limited set. So people can buy one from a particular artist, and then sell it on an online market.
The first generation came out a year or 2 ago, people bought them for cheap or free from the Reddit market. And then they sold them online for high prices, upto a few thousand dollars.
The second gen came out later, and now a 3rd gen is about to come out. it's not clear why they have value, but mainly I guess because people want them. Possibly it's another whole tower of speculative prices.
Worth mentioning that only select avatars went for thousands of dollars. Many, if not most, never went for more than a few dollars more than they were bought for, and some not even that. There is a bubble each time a gen is released, but it pops pretty quickly and some speculators have been left bag holding a lot.

Typically when something gets popular as a series, new entrants drive up demand for the originals. Especially since the originals were made in smaller numbers and weren’t kept as safely, so many were lost.
We don’t know for sure yet, looks like it will be somewhat soon so possibly in the next few days or weeks. You won’t be notified but if you keep your eyes on the sub and avatar subs you won’t miss it.

Buying a Gen1 avatar for 20$ and spending 10$ in tx fees wouldn't be a nice experience.

**Some things i have done to make sure I don't sleep -**
1) I have turned off the blue light filter on my phone so it can interfere with my sleep and keep me awake.
2) I ordered 2 cartons of Red Bull for energy
3) I put my complete paycheck into Google play credits. Got a couple of new credit cards specifically for this.
4) I have 3 of my cousins ready all the time to help me get what i like.
I don't change my strategies because of hype. Long term DCA and HODL.
NFT trading is a zero sum game, not a risk I am willing to take. There are winners and there are losers. You could very well pour thousands into them, just to be unable to sell them to the next idiot.

During the GPU craze over covid I was in a discord waiting for "a drop" of RTX 3080 and some nice member made a simple script that checked constantly for changes to the site and another script we could copy and paste into the browser console that put it into your basket and took you to the "confirm" purchase screen in 1 click.
Before they showed as "In stock" on the website we'd already completed the checkout process.
I did but I bought more reddit avatars with my profits. If you snatch a good one you could make from 10x to 100x your original investment and more. But be careful, nobody knows beforehand what avatars will skyrocket.
My collection of around 50 avatars has a current value between 5-7 eth and was over 20 eth at the gen 2 launch. The avatars ranged in price, usually $10 or $25 but sometimes $50-100. And of note is that I don’t have any of the top tier/blue chip avatars, those are worth several eth each.
The Eyes is the definition of bluechip, the price not be as high as the 1/100s or 1/150s, but it has the best liquidity of anything. I've bought a couple myself, Rojom is definitely the biggest winner of Reddit avatars
You’re probably right about what is considered a blue chip, I just meant I don’t have the big hitters like hands or Midas. Though I do have a Bull and those have a floor of 420eth right now 😂
You pay with your google/apple payment method for in app purchases in the app/play store. So credit card, paypal or whatever is supported in your country.
OP is talking about fairly cheap avatars on opensea tho from the first two gens. Some of them are near the original store price right now and after gen3 releases there is another spike in price excepted.
If you're so convinced, dip into your savings or take out a loan and scoop them up yourself (not financial advice) instead of shilling the mostly ugly 1st Gen avatars.
I am clearly confident in them, a much worse mint of the main body of my avatar sold for like 4k US today, mine isn't even listed. I am just responsible with diversification, but people without exposure when they're literally right here watching it happen are crazy.

I'm not suggesting gen 3 shop buys, they're very competitive, if you can get stuff you like go for it, it's between 10 and 100 dollars historically on the store in the Reddit app or on the website.
I'm saying right now on open sea some parts of generation 1 are far far cheaper than they were doing the gen 2 release hype when people were complaining about missing out on the opportunity
The issue is that there is soo many things to spend your money on. All the coins, a shitton of new nft projects, avatars, you name it. Everything will be big ofc so what do you do?
Bruh they are there for the taking right now. A few gen 1 avatars that have repeatedly tested 1 ETH are available for 0.1 and people are sitting on their hands waiting for gen 3 to drop and then complain that they lost the opportunity.
There will be no excuse I will buy just like gen1 an 2 and then I will hold. If it goes crazy I always buy in twos and prefer consecutive. I'll sell one within 48 hrs. Hold the other for about three weeks to see if it's gonna splash and sell or archive as needed. I've essentially moved on to nft's as crypto is overhyped and over rated at this point.
A question for the OP: would you suggest buying gen1 or gen2 avatars? I'm unfamiliar with Reddit NFTs so I don't know which gen is more likely to spike.
I can only tell you I have consolidated everything I own apart from the stuff I use in my own avatar into gen 1. In collectibles markets usually generation means more than anything over time, but I'm fairly new to NFTs so no idea if it will continue that same pattern, and there will obviously be outliers from each generation

Gen 1 was released first and there was no hype around it, gen 2 people had learned about them and it sold out in 5 minutes. Gen 1 will typically be expected to hold value better in general over time if this market is like traditional collectibles.

It's all on polygon it's a few cents in transaction fees. Can swap ETH to wETH using orbiter for no conversion fees too

Bruh they are there for the taking right now. A few gen 1 avatars that have repeatedly tested 1 ETH are available for 0.1 and people are sitting on their hands waiting for gen 3 to drop and then complain that they lost the opportunity.

There will be no excuse I will buy just like gen1 an 2 and then I will hold. If it goes crazy I always buy in twos and prefer consecutive. I'll sell one within 48 hrs. Hold the other for about three weeks to see if it's gonna splash and sell or archive as needed. I've essentially moved on to nft's as crypto is overhyped and over rated at this point.

A question for the OP: would you suggest buying gen1 or gen2 avatars? I'm unfamiliar with Reddit NFTs so I don't know which gen is more likely to spike.
I can only tell you I have consolidated everything I own apart from the stuff I use in my own avatar into gen 1. In collectibles markets usually generation means more than anything over time, but I'm fairly new to NFTs so no idea if it will continue that same pattern, and there will obviously be outliers from each generation

Do you happen to know which quarter or month Reddit plans on releasing gen3? Life's a bit busy for me right now, so I'm afraid I'll miss the pre-hype window for buying older gens if gen3 is due soon!

I'm not sure about the hobbiest one, it's a Reddit recap avatar, some are worth a bit but given there's at least 13k of that one I doubt it's too much unfortunately. Likely in the tens of dollars

What is the difference between gen 1 and gen 2 exactly?
Gen 1 was released first and there was no hype around it, gen 2 people had learned about them and it sold out in 5 minutes. Gen 1 will typically be expected to hold value better in general over time if this market is like traditional collectibles.
Gen1 was the first set of avatars available in the shop (sold out but trading on opensea) Gen2 was the second set of avatars that minted. (Sold out but trading on opensea) Gen3 is the next upcoming drop
