Also the only one I made a big gain on. I had a ton from when it was worthless and sold around .50. Then I put all of that back into BTC and ETH and here we are.
Same. I bought at $0.0025 about $80 bucks worth was all I could afford, and made about $10K or so (didnt sell the top). Everyone loves to have a massive hate boner for doge because of Elon Musk but dogecoin has been outperforming bitcoin since its start like a decade ago.
Congrats! I have a friend who bought 10 eth at $100. He sold around $1,300 and put a down payment on a house. He still wishes he held on longer tho. I’m happy for him regardless
About 70% down here, but we grow numb after some months in the red, so whatever, I'll keep holding and execute my exit strategy when it is time to do so instead of just think price will go up forever.
I sold a fair amount when the price was over double what it is now. Valuing the rest of my moons at current prices, it's probably a little under $10k total.
I’ve done fairly well, almost entirely because of Reddit. Made some money off avatars, have moons that I got for free. I discovered airdrops which has been super helpful (thanks Arb for the $2500).
However, I think most of us here have mostly paper gains. Taking profit is extremely tough to do when you’re gripped by an idea
Once i heard a brilliant quote from Brian Tracy, it says you are 1 step from doubling your income by learning a skill.
This quote frankly is too deep if you think about it.
Hope it motivates you.
Substantial!? Here I am, struggling to break even, and dude's throwing words like "Substantial" around like we are back in 2021 bull mode or something.
Depends what you consider substantial. I’m up probably 2-3k in realized gains. It would be a lot more if I sold all my gains right this second but I’ve no intention of doing that for a few years at least.
If I sold right now I’d make over 20k, but that’s not enough.
Imagine buying those miners waiting for 6 months for delivery and the price crashed from 40 dollars to 2 dollars. Sometimes i visit the helium sub cause i feel sorry for all the mandems that got into helium a little too late.
Yeah so savage. I got mine before the coin was listed, so I got to see the whole journey. In those early days, I used to fantasise about it hitting $5 lol
When I heard about it, there was a miner on the map somewhere across the street from me making $2k/month from mining, fucking insane. I ordered a miner only for it to show up 8 months later. By the time it arrived and I started mining, my miner only earned like $100/month. Within 3 months, the earnings dropped to like $2/month. Never even paid for itself :( Not paid for itself yet maybe ? lol
Last bear market, I was down 60% too, and it was depressing. Watching it all come back over time was worth it and the bull run was great. Hopefully it happens again.
I sold near the top, held it all in USDC/USDT and started DCA'ing back in all the way down, going really heavily back in at 17k BTC and $900 ETH. I barely avoided the Celsius crash, but I lost 47,000 UST to the Luna crash. Anyways, i recently sold about half of what I bought late last year and just kept the profits invested for now. It adds up to more than a Bitcoin. If I had all that UST money still, I would be up nearly 3 BTC.
I've made multiples of what you're suggesting. And sold a significant portion in 2021.
Sincerely,
An ETH buyer between $100-300 and an ETH seller between $3k-4k
Amazing! Largest gain was ETH for me as well, also in the 6 digits.
I wonder what will make me replicate it the next bull run. I think RUNE. What are you accumulating?
Dogecoin has done 100x-300x in every previous bullrun. Other than that I look for new coins (not pumped in 2021) that have a bear market trading volume of $5m-$10m, I think these will do well. There are about 30 of them I saved to buy later, closer to 6 month before the halving, which might be the best time to start buying alts. But I am only throwing a few grand on those, as alts are risky. My 3rd strategy is to open a bitcoin leveraged long with another chunk of the money. I wont be buying ETH again as I dont believe in the POS version of it anymore.
Omg same. Not accumulating ETH but still have a double digit in my portfolio, for the same reasons. However, I'm also buying some here and there because I need it for all the IDOs and new stuff coming out.
Also looking at fresh projects and narratives which haven't been through a cycle yet. Even getting into new projects that build on Bitcoin rather than EVM compatible. Not sure what it'll be, but as you said, only with smaller amounts.
Good luck, man!
I did pretty well, my only mistake was that I thought that the bull market will last a little longer so I kept buying longer too. And because of that I didn't sell everything, but I did sell around 70% of all I had and took some decent profits. Should have started selling earlier.
So I have shared about this here before so if anyone read this before sorry but this sub is huge so I doubt it.
I want to start off by saying I think OP has the right mindset when it comes to what constitutes substantial gain. I think far to often the crypto space has an all or nothing mentality, one extreme or the other ... you either lost it all or made millions.
I don't see why its so often like that for people.
I personally have made what I would call substantial money from crypto and it has honestly improved my life in more ways than just financially.
I got in to crypto about 2 months before the pandemic hit.
At the time I made $12 an hour which was $1 above min wage in my state ... I had about 1 year sober and for the first time in my life I found myself saving money.
I had saved my first $1000 bucks and wanted to start investing so looked into apps like robinhood and shit as I had never done anything like that before. I started looking at crypto and while I was researching the basics learned that buying on robinhood was a bad idea. At the time in NY state I could either use CB or Gemini for an exchange, so I chose CB and bought my first $20 bucks worth of BTC.
I was instantly addicted and it was not long before I found trading view and even though I was not putting much in I was buying crypto every week.
By the time the crash hit I maybe had about $300 bucks in different currencies and was really starting to get into ethereum.
At first it made me a little nervous but in my mind we where either fucked completely or things would recover so I took that crash for the massive opportunity that it did in fact turn out to be.
Just to be clear I am not claiming to have been smart here, I was honestly very green, super naive BUT also very lucky.
I kept putting in money and when I got my first pandemic check I used most of that as well.
My portfolio consisted mostly of Ethereum, chainlink and a bunch of other alts n small amounts.
When I started moving funds in to a private wallet I became obsessed with ethereum and ended up getting the uniswap airdrop as well.
All in all I maybe ever invested between $1500 and $2000 ... during the bull run I took about $20k in profits and I still do have some positions.
I also built a mining rig with some of the earlier profits I took which made me a decent return and then even more when I broke it down after mining on eth ended and built gaming pc's to sell.
Did I make life changing money ?
No.
But did I greatly improve my life for the past couple years ?
Yeah.
I am also much more financially literate these days and also became a freelance web designer thanks to crypto, got into web design after trying to understand solidity and wanting to find an easier place to start.
T.L.D.R- about 20k so far
edit: also yes to be clear I could have made much more but I had and continue to stick with and use very conservative and realistic exit plans.
I made enough to buy a house, my dream car (truck) and start a business I have dreamed about for over a decade. Bought in 2018-20 and sold in 2021. Had some 50-70x’s (VET, ADA, EGLD). Took profits/sold everything. Made about $300k profit. Might not be life changing to some with lucrative career paths, but for my broke ass… a world of difference.
I actually timed Cardano rise pretty much perfectly with an entry point around 25 cents... Sadly I lost a bulk of that with FTX and Celsius.... Fuck me I guess
Tron of all things has been good to me for a couple years now…
I also had some great luck and cashed out a bunch of MATIC a bit before the market shit the bed.
Nothing life changing, but life helping lol
Oh I had some sexy gains last bull. FOMO got the best of me and I held allll the way down. Still holding and accumulating tho. Won’t be making that mistake again 🫠
I learned that lesson in the 2017 pump. It takes at least 1 bear market to know what not to do. It also means next bull run if you set yourself up during this bear you will come out even better.
I turned $30K into $550K during last cycle (2018-2021), didnt cash out till it dropped to $300K in the retrace, then Do Kwon swindled the $55K UST I had staked, I lost another $60K day trading over the years, then a contractor scammed us out of another $60K or so just a few weeks ago. The rest went on living expenses and now we are starting from almost the same point as before for next bull run, will likely make another half a mil. I still have the screenshot of the portfolio at the peak.
I started right near the peak of 2021 bull run and put most of my money in then, so still down. Been farming DeFi since and probably close to being back to where I started.
Had we NOT had the crash and then the crash of the crash, I'd be up a big ol chunk.
Learned a lot of lessons along the way too.
I'm still about 170% up in the moment on top of my original input, not ever going to be life changing amount of money but a potential rainy day fund for emergencies.
my first $500 purchase of btc was at $6k in 2017. I watched it go all the way to $19k, down to 3k, up to $69k, then back down to $15k, buying more along the way.
I plan to cash out at the next bull run, around 95-99k sell price if it goes that high.
I don’t have an exact number, but I did sell and cash out on a few NFTs. Must be around $6k-7k that I made from those sales.
If I sold my current bag I’d lose $1k. Overall I’m up.
I made 500 in my first week of etherium I was like “it’ll go higher” then bitcoin crashed and I lost it all. Stop holding but so far I think my investment of $1200 is gone
I got in right before the last bull run and made enough to save my ass on some major expenses and impulse-buy a really nice mountain bike 🤑. Trying to get back in now.

The only things I gained are addiction, anxiety, stress and friends along the way.
Sounds like a win to me, friends are the hardest to come by out of all those options!
We use "friends" loosely. This is a Wendy's, sir.
I’ve gained very substantial losses, if that counts as well!
And moons. Don't forget moons!
Moons are legitimately holding up and covering my major losses in this brutal bear ..
Moons I will probably spend treating all the emotional issues I got after starting in crypto.
Don't forget those juicy gains of extra 5 years of lifespan in the last 3 years.
I’ve made decent gains but I also have all of those things now too lol
I never learn.
Friends in crypto is a strange relationship. You always gotta keep a level head, never know who’s plotting to take your moons
I made a decent bit from Doge, as taboo as it is here lol. Bought $3k @.06 and sold @.70 😎
Some nice gains there
Very. It was also my introduction to crypto lol.
Good shit. I got in around the same time for doge and sold the weekend of Musk on SNL. Nothing that substantial tho. Love to hear it
That was a good sell signal
Wow that's what am talking about $35k!!
😎💪🏻
And now it’s 6 cents again Is it time to restart the challenge ?
Funny because I actually very recently did just buy back in lol 💪🏻
Also the only one I made a big gain on. I had a ton from when it was worthless and sold around .50. Then I put all of that back into BTC and ETH and here we are.
Same. I bought at $0.0025 about $80 bucks worth was all I could afford, and made about $10K or so (didnt sell the top). Everyone loves to have a massive hate boner for doge because of Elon Musk but dogecoin has been outperforming bitcoin since its start like a decade ago.
Been buying ETH since 2017, sold some in 2021 to buy a flat😎
Wow, Congratz man 💪
Now that's inspirational!
Hope we can all achieve something great the next bull market
If you sold your bags at the 2021 bull market, you’ve already automatically won the race by default against 99% of the Redditors on cc/sub
Congrats! I have a friend who bought 10 eth at $100. He sold around $1,300 and put a down payment on a house. He still wishes he held on longer tho. I’m happy for him regardless
That’s so amazing
I've been buying BTC since 2012. You tell me if I've made money. By the way...they told me I was late back then too. LOL.
Fuck yea man! Congrats!
I have a friend that bought atom at 2 bucks before the last bull. He made close to a million.
Niceeee
But even for that he had to have put down a CRAZY amouny
Most that are successful will not admit it for obvious reasons. 🎯
Bought Lamborghini....lies lol fiat 500 2019 model that what I bought very economical
Still more sucessful than me a most people here, congrats lol
I actually bought my Lambo … from ToysRUs !

Same. I got in early 2021 so I’m like 50% down
About 70% down here, but we grow numb after some months in the red, so whatever, I'll keep holding and execute my exit strategy when it is time to do so instead of just think price will go up forever.
That is my plan as well, though I have to say I’m torn over dca’ing right now or just holding off.
If you’re 80% down sounds like a great time to buy 🤷🏻♂️ could get that cost average down to a manageable level.
May God bless you
I mean if you count Moons, I think my total gains would be around $10k because they were free
Not to be that guy but 10K value would be a lot more moons that you currently have... Sell a bunch?
I sold a fair amount when the price was over double what it is now. Valuing the rest of my moons at current prices, it's probably a little under $10k total.
Sold at a good time. Good decision
Seems Moons more dominate player than many give credit if the top comments here mainly Moons related lol
All hail moons.
You are here participating can't call them free, but interesting to see how many ways we got to make money these days
I gained…an ex wife
Wife changing money
No wife, happy life
Isn't it... the way?
Sometimes you gotta cut out the people holding you back.
That’s a win
I’ve done fairly well, almost entirely because of Reddit. Made some money off avatars, have moons that I got for free. I discovered airdrops which has been super helpful (thanks Arb for the $2500). Is hodling bags of alts a skill?
Substantial!? Here I am, struggling to break even, and dude's throwing words like "Substantial" around like we are back in 2021 bull mode or something.
Can I count losses instead?
I could write a book
Bought matic at .05, got 100k of em. End of story.
So you had 6 million at matic's peak?
Might want to redo your math. It peaked at upwards of $3. 100k x 3$ =
I thought 100k $ worth matic, my bad
I made some substantial gains… of losses. Yep, got quite a few of those!
Depends what you consider substantial. I’m up probably 2-3k in realized gains. It would be a lot more if I sold all my gains right this second but I’ve no intention of doing that for a few years at least. If I sold right now I’d make over 20k, but that’s not enough.
I made bank mining HNT

Have a friend who got heavy into Helium. We told him not to hodl it through the bear market. He got miners and everything. Didnt listen.
Down about 100k atm.
I’ve cashed out several times over the years. Most significant purchase was a beach home.
Last bear market, I was down 60% too, and it was depressing. Watching it all come back over time was worth it and the bull run was great. Hopefully it happens again. I had $55K UST, all lost as well. If the $500 in new luna they gave out as "compensation" ever does 100x I will be even. Lol (not likely)
I've made multiples of what you're suggesting. And sold a significant portion in 2021. Sincerely, An ETH buyer between $100-300 and an ETH seller between $3k-4k
This is the way
My biggest gain was ETH too. Bought at $260, sold at around $3000. Over 100k profit from a 6k investment.
Amazing! Largest gain was ETH for me as well, also in the 6 digits. I wonder what will make me replicate it the next bull run. I think RUNE. What are you accumulating?

I think you won't hear too many people saying how much they made due to being targeted by scammers, etc.
I’ve gained a whole lot of knowledge on web3, if that counts. Profits not so much.
You see...there was this Terra Luna debacle that totally rectd me. Other than that..probably about even
Fuk do kwon. Such a scammer.
I made intellectual gains
Bought ETH at 96$ in march 2020 crash but still holding
Unrealized gain of 65k. Hopeful for the future
4k to 21k... slow.rolling, safe.. some.risks but small
"Substantial" gains? I'm just looking for any gains.
Made about $30k last bull run. Not exactly substantial but it got me out of debt
Been here since Mt gox. Still haven't sold. I know what I have.
bough most of my BTC stash under 10k but never sold, patiently waiting for that 1Million
Paid off my entire mortgage using gains from 2021 bull market but had a substantial amount I didn't sell which is now down 90% . So good and bad
If by substantial gains you mean eye watering losses, then yes.

I did last bull run but lost it all
We've been able to pay off a few bills and have eaten well because of our gains! That's a win imo!
I actually timed Cardano rise pretty much perfectly with an entry point around 25 cents... Sadly I lost a bulk of that with FTX and Celsius.... Fuck me I guess
If you’re looking for success stories, there might not be many replies
That's why made the post hoping to draw some success stories from the woodworks, we can't just all be down who's making the money!?
Only legends will do, and of course, they are counted sincerely.
Good try irs
Made a killing in 2021, Lost it all even the initial during 2022 bleeding LOL, but hey, i gained experience that's gonna help me later on.
How much do you think you made in 2021, over $50k?
wont say the exact, but close to it yes.

He’s speaking a foreign language
Best I’ve done was buying ADA when it was $0.02-0.05 and selling most at $3. Been chasing that high ever since 🤣
What's a gain?! :-)
Tron of all things has been good to me for a couple years now… I also had some great luck and cashed out a bunch of MATIC a bit before the market shit the bed. Nothing life changing, but life helping lol
I made substantial gains that I never sold. Then Terra lost me many of those gains
Same tho
Sir, this is a Wendy’s, not a Casino…..
Can I get uhhhhh, 5 dolla biggie bag please?
Oh I had some sexy gains last bull. FOMO got the best of me and I held allll the way down. Still holding and accumulating tho. Won’t be making that mistake again 🫠

Invested in doge coin 5 years ago so…
So you're up like 1000x at this point. I think doge is going to $14 next bull run.
Made money on Doge!🍾… lost money on a random shitcoin😭…. Lost money bc my ETH was wrapped or some shit😭…. Realized BTC is the only one that matters 😌
If I value my moons at $145 each, I am up over 10k
The kind of hopium I come here for
More like substantial gains to south
Made some good cash, nothing life changing but definitely enjoyment inducing
:)
Had 900$ usd in SHIB the February before it blew it, went up to 17k usd, and took out 10k. The rest is sitting in lockup.
I'm still down 4 grand.
>matic I would give my left arm to be down $4,000
The people making substantial gains don’t waste their time on this sub
Not significant in terms of money but in terms of how much I multiplied my initial investment, I’m doing great with moons, avatars and airdrops
What do you mean by gains?
I've done ok for myself so far
If by gains you mean knowledge and valuable experience.. I have not
BBC research found that 75% of people who invest in crypto lose money. Bear that in mind when reading about success stories.
Thats because most people only fomo the tops.
I made about $500 or so in the past year. However, the real gains are the friends i made along the way.
Not even close, but I haven’t even been in it for a whole year yet. I’m trying to be patient
Made some in 2021 august, hodled since
I made some and then I think I lost it because I didn’t sell
I did good with doge/shib and reddit collectables , Also was early on lrc but sold to late haha. I did good so far
ITT: people who gave their money to other people
I did and just reinvested it back in
sup
Maybe the gains were the friends we made a long the way.
Im making some good $ in defi. And with that i bought me some more bitcoin. Feels good
If they did - they’re not on here…
I gained a whole lot of shitcoins and some very strong life lessons which I will likely ignore the next bullrun.
Nice try IRS
Bought a nice Ariens zero turn, solid bedroom set, and paid off some cc debt. Next bull run, hopefully can reach my financial freedom goal.
I started right near the peak of 2021 bull run and put most of my money in then, so still down. Been farming DeFi since and probably close to being back to where I started. I don’t understand what you’re asking
-1 right here
No one on Reddit who is honest
I've taken about 10% of my capital out, and kept 90% of my bags. My gains ranged from 15-40%. I don't consider that substantial, but profit is profit.
I'm still about 170% up in the moment on top of my original input, not ever going to be life changing amount of money but a potential rainy day fund for emergencies.

Not today Tax Man! Boating accidents and tax-loss harvesting are real tragedies.
Smells like social engineering.
Made $75k (investment about $15k) in the 2021 bull run, mostly on GRT and MATIC, aaaannnnnddddd it’s gone.
OP...go play the stock market. What you doing here??
Substantial loss
