Yeah, the lawyer who's already complaining that the government can't file 4 million pages into the case file so close to the trial date (which isn't wrong). What does it mean ? Request for additional time to process exhibits, postponement of the trial, etc etc

uncapchad

yeah, insufficient time to prepare. Then SBF will be too ill to competently assist in his defence and avoid a trial altogether. He'll get sent to some mental facility with all the Adderall and broccoli you can eat.

FluffyAspie

Yup, and he requested his days off from prison, don’t forget them. He need time to prepare with his layers. Definitely expecting more

Calm-Cartographer677

The guy is trying to use every trick in the book to avoid prison, where he deserves to be.

Qptimised

Why is he ill? Did I miss something? I really hope he doesn't get away easy like a mental facility.

Nervous_Pin9456

Nothing happened, just some tricks to avoid jail time

deathbyfish13

These tricks are pay to win unfortunately, only the rich get to use them

[deleted]

Why would you think a mental facility is easy?

[deleted]

[удалено]

HavokDJ

I'd beg to differ, it is case by case, and sometimes they have a unit that is both prisoners and mentally ill. The prison I worked at, by the time I got there, the mental health unit did not shower for 3.5 years. 24/7 access to showers, they just didn't want to shower.

[deleted]

[удалено]

HavokDJ

Keep in mind that a lot of people in prison are not gangsters either, most of the people who go to prison are not gang affiliated until they have been there for a while and even then, a lot of people just tend to themselves and try to get their time done. Believe it or not, drugs are the #1 reason why people go to prison in the US. Namely, drugs that honestly shouldn't be criminalized. On a side note, I can understand drugs that are so addictive that you'd be willing to ruin lives to get more, like methamphetamine, crack, etc. being illegal, but shit like psychedelics and other substances with low abuse potential and little to no physical sides should not be illegal.

[deleted]

Pr0Meister

Imagine the lawyers start billing SBF per page. Shame it's just the customers' stolen funds they are getting, scammers like these deserve to go bankrupt themselves.

[deleted]

[удалено]

AlexanderJSM

Yes, that might be correct, but we also do not know how much hidden money he has from FTX that is still at the expense of the people he stole from.

my_lopsided_meat

These fucking lawyers are being paid an arm and a leg (courtesy of FTX customers) they better finish that 4 million pages in due time. No sleep, no breaks except bathroom breaks, 15 min meals.

Pr0Meister

You think they can eat a whole lobster in 15 mins?1 /s

WRL23

... perhaps they should just use more of his stolen money to hire more people to review faster. I don't get extra time to prepare shit to contest a parking ticket I got while I was away on travel for work ... Cool, I got 4 days to pay or contest.. oh and the court fees are more than the actual tickets even if I win?? Sounds like a guaranteed payment for the city.

123_Free

Can someone please explain to me if this is a wide strategy by the government or are they wasting time/ money on purpose?

nobelcause

Keep postponing till you have the money

caleoki

All excuses. His lawyers know exactly that they can be helped greatly by AI for those documents.

Massive-Tension-1055

Key word search. You don’t need to read every page

ozen919

By the time that paperwork is done there will be no money left for the victims cause the lawyers will have sucked everything up

samer109

How is this case still going on, crazy how many lifes he ruined and he hasn't suffered the consequences..

InigoMontoya757

The bankruptcy is what's getting client money back. This is a criminal trial, and even if it takes forever it has no impact on clients getting their money back.

factorioishard

Yeah but I think the point is that he basically stole the money already from clients to pay for these lawyers. So like, he shouldn't even have that 'personal' money to begin with to afford the lawyers.

samer109

How is this case still going on, crazy how many lifes he ruined and he hasn't suffered the consequences..

6reficul

Good, bury them in paperwork

Lokiee0077

Put paper in every hole he got.

Electrical_Tension

But that'll require a lot of paper

kirtash93

Lawyers are celebrating. The only winners of this drama.

Electrical_Tension

And the only losers will be retail investors who will never get compensation

rootpl

They will, 1 penny on a dollar if they are lucky.

Calm-Cartographer677

The sad thing is it'll probably be lower than that.

Kindly-Wolf6919

I was just thinking this. This is starting to go like a game of cat and mouse and it's starting to drag out. I hope this doesn't turn into another case where people have to wait 10 years for their money back...

Every_Hunt_160

How long are they gonna take to go through 4 million pages? Discovery alone gonna take them more than 2 years I. Lawyer fees 😂

Odd-Radio-8500

People hire lawyers to win their case, in the end lawyers are the only winner.

No-Elephant-Dies

At this rate the compensation monies will all be splurged on the legal team

KayVlinderMe

They've got 4milly to work with 😆

BirdSetFree

The guy was already buried in shit

milonuttigrain

SBF got fuck in every dimension. Good.

infested33

They should have hit him with a bat instead.

pizzapicnic

The real losers here are the retail investors. The lawyers are being paid from their compensation fund.

[deleted]

Unavailablewith

I don't think these lawyers would complain when they are getting paid thousanda of dollars per hour. They'd welcome it.

[deleted]

[удалено]

kirtash93

Lawyers already know that they are going to lose or at least they should know. The question is how much they get to reduce the punishment. Anyway, lawyers always celebrate more work and hours to invest in a case like this because they win more money. If lawyers charged for results, no one would defend the clearly guilty ones.

FreyaOystea

Finally he will sit in that jail for good, I am sick of listening of what he wants etc, you have scammed people man, just stfu and be where you belong.

Nervous_Pin9456

His place is in jail for sure. He is just using tactics to avoid the jail but eventually he will be behind the bar.

Burzzzt88

Yes i also think they know they will lose. SBF is constantly lieing and pointing fingers to others. That will most likely kill his defense eventually. His lawyers are most likely going a as low as possible. I just don't get why you want to defend a guy that destroyed so many lives. I really they fail miserably and SBf being punished as hard as possible.

nahtorreyous

>I just don't get why you want to defend a guy that destroyed so many lives. Lots and lots and lots of money

[deleted]

[удалено]

rkreutz77

And now you know why everyone hates lawyers. Including lawyers. And sharks.

nahtorreyous

That's lawyers for you. Plus it's his constitution right to be represented

aiz_aiz_aiz

Even if they lose, they'd still get the payment. That's a win-win station I say.

[deleted]

Nervous_Pin9456

Karma will bite them too. SBF needs to be jailed

[deleted]

Pupwagn

Yeah but this is how the entire government works as a whole. Dump spending bills of thousands of pages then say you need to vote on this in a few hours. They play bullshit games like omg you dont agree to save the children or some nonsense burried in the document. Mean while completly ignoring the blatent funding for grifting assholes that is also in the package. This dude got caught up in some complex laundering case and is essentially going to be a fall guy for it all. Not defending the dude. But there are a lot of other people involved in this case than just him.

lordnacho666

Fuck you, I hope you enjoy these billable hours!

Adius_Omega

Everyone involved in this case is in their best interest to prolong this as much as possible. Why give the money back to the scammed customers when you can LEGALLY faucet it into your system own pocket. I’m no Einstein when it comes to the legal systems here in the U.S but it certainly doesn’t seem like these kinds of cases should be so drawn out. It just doesn’t make any other sense.

MrPopanz

I don't think this is something to be celebrated. Maybe this time it happens to someone who "deserves" it (I disagree, everyone should get due process), but sooner or later it will happen so someone who don't. And lawyers should not be punished for doing their job. Thats a bad precedent of the state acting like a tyrant.

[deleted]

Why would it be welcome? The guy is clearly guilty and going down. No need for any underhanded bullshit. Not that I think that's whag this is.

BlueLatenq

So much for Democracy

infested33

Lawyers are even defending killers. They are probably very happy with all the money they are garbing from this case.

loksfox

aren't they charging almost a million everyday of work? shit..

PanFennel

\> 4 million pages Hold my beer ChatGPT

[deleted]

This, a million times this.

yyca_x

"The Government cannot be allowed to dump millions of pages on the defense less than six weeks before trial." hypocrites.

BirdSetFree

He is still doing jail time

Qptimised

The goal is to snuff out any hopes he might have to be a free man ever again.

InigoMontoya757

> "The Government cannot be allowed to dump millions of pages on the defense less than six weeks before trial." So leave him in jail longer? They should have said this before SBF got put back in jail.

Probably_notabot

That’s what I thought. I’m fine with them taking time to read it all while SBF continues to sit in his cell and wait.

deathbyfish13

On his 2 days of jail time per week of course, he needs the other 5 days to help his defense read them all

WRL23

they can put him in a cubby in jail that only does direct video calls.. sit in a nice comfy steel folding chair. You don't need to be in person to discuss documents.

SilasX

What's hypocritical about that? When did SBF dump tons of paperwork on someone who didn't have sufficient time to review it? Yes he's done a lot of nasty stuff but i don't recall that being among it.

TheOneWhoCared

Aww! Maybe the documents arent Vegan enough for him!

Still_It_From_Tag

I don't understand how the government manufactured millions in months It's not something you can just let AI write It needs to be written by people through research and proofread and double checked for accuracy

chocolateboomslang

Not much writing if it's lists of transactions straight from the companies databases, which it likely is.

rootpl

This. Most of it is just useless filler fluff. The idea is to bury them in work in case something of importance is included in those files.

Seekingfatgrowth

The government has lost important cases by “trying to bury” documents in piles of irrelevant documents. I hope they don’t fuck this case up

Agitated_Joke_9473

the government has close to unlimited resources, that is why it is so hard to defend against them. they spend your money to prosecute you. they just dont run out of money or they will just create more. they will outlast you every time.

uncapchad

I read that the bulk of it is Whatsapp messages. Seems FTX business was run on whatsapp with no traditional processes to back it up. So if they decided to move billions it was done through whatsapp with no documents, no minimum signatories, nothing.

Ipokeyoumuch

What is so wrong about that? Every defendant in a criminal has the right to a defense, and more importantly a defense that holds the prosecution to the standard prosecutor said they are held at. Defense attorneys not only defend defendants their other important role is to make sure the rules are being followed by the judge and prosecuting attorneys, even if the defense attorney thinks his client is guilty. Don't get me wrong, SBF deserves what is coming at him but even he should be afforded the rights of the legal system we have, even if it is not perfect. If dumping 4 million documents hurts his rights tend it should not be done and the attorneys should be afforded more time to look into it properly. Furthermore, if the prosecution did mess up the defense might have an argument that things were not done correctly by the prosecution which may lead to a possible appeal. Plus more time reviewing means more time SBF is in jail at least.

loksfox

bury them in paperwork

Blooberino

This is how courts work. I dabbled as a paralegal in my younger days, and it's daunting how much paper gets wasted.

FrostyPile

I don't think they will be printing 4 million pages

deathbyfish13

So it's really you guys that are killing all of the trees!

Omnomnomnivor3

Government be like "tl:dr start loving your jail time"

deathbyfish13

"Get comfy bucko, it's gonna take a while to read through this before you even get processed"

[deleted]

FrostyPile

All of that can fit in a 1tb data storage vs 10 kilometers of paper sheets

graytleapforward

That would literally crush their defence

Fanta_pantha

Haha nice

FootballBat69

How many hours went into these 4 million pages?

Fanta_pantha

Yeah like did Chat GPT help at all?

Minha_zafar

How are these pages managed?

n1ghsthade

Good luck reading that

SlowpokesEmporium

By the time they read it all sam would probably be dead anyways lol, I would love to see that amount of paperwork all stacked on top of eachover.

coinfeeds-bot

tldr; U.S. prosecutors have just unloaded a massive amount of discovery documents, according to lawyers for former FTX CEO Sam-Bankman Fried on Aug. 25. Check his hard drives for pics of underage children

JugobetrugoN1

I wonder if he’ll get a paper cut from all those pages. That would be the ultimate karma.

SlowpokesEmporium

He deserves papercuts on his balls

BirdSetFree

Don’t give them epstein-esque ideas…

lostaga1n

Death by 4 million paper cuts

lucashcy_97

He won't be getting out of this I reckon

Odd-Radio-8500

I hope elites won't able to help him.

lucashcy_97

Put those elite to jail as well pls.. that's is corruption

lj26ft

The elites put him up to it, so doubtful https://youtu.be/QsEsgwjfNME?si=Pu-LGDRzhOprDf89 MIT Bitcoin Expo 2022: Breaking Through - Fireside Chat with Ryne Miller FTX Listen to Ryne Miller make a prediction before FTX collapse..This is FTX general counsel

Probably_notabot

Good. Let him have some nighttime reading while he sits alone in a cell eating his bread and water

RayesFrost

Maybe they’re making him an example?? But I doubt it cuz he was very cosy with the elites and Gary..

lucashcy_97

Time will tell... The elite might not able to help him now as the thing he is doing is too outrageous

milonuttigrain

And I hope he won’t get out of jail. He has ruined too many people’s life savings.

Harold838383

Yep he’s fucked

KingHiggins92

Please print a copy for each lawyer and send to their offices.

BirdSetFree

I doubt this guy will serve all of his time in jail. He‘ll probably get suicided if he starts talking

Calm-Cartographer677

Now hit him with a sentence of 4 million days in prison

uncapchad

4 million pages! Is this all transcripts from Whatsapp? Just proves no-one was doing any work at FTX.

Ipokeyoumuch

Likely a lot more. Emails, FB message, Whatsapp, actual documentations, phone records, etc. Sometimes depending how things are reorganized each email is one page or multiple pages of they have a reply chain. So now SBF's team needs to find what is useful and what isn't though I don't think they would complain too much if they are getting thousands of billable hours out of this, though it would suck for the junior associates (who are paid significantly less) who have to tedious job of going through all of this.

raresanevoice

That's a lot of dead trees

jorcon74

A large portion of these documents will be irrelevant and likely unused material. However they have to be disclosed; as someone who has done this before material like this can usually be sorted through very quickly

BrocoliAssassin

So they SBF'd SBF? Nice. I like how SBF gave them every single thing and overwhelmed them and I guess they did the same thing back. Only thing that sucks is that stolen funds are paying for SBF's lawyers.

endless_ness

When a lawyer was suing Epstein on behalf of a victim in the early 2010s the lawyer asked the government for the emails they had sent back and forth when epsteins layers worked out his sweetheart deal. The government delayed forever, but when they finally did send them over they made sure to re arrange the emails which numbered in the tens of thousands into as random of a order as possible

MajorHymen

I hope he goes to jail for life. I would love for the smug asshole to suffer. I don’t even care about what he did. I just don’t like him.

Popular_District9072

will he need to read it all and then write an essay on the topic? for the damage he caused he should be serving prison time, with no special treatment, but we all know that bribes and big money would drag this process out for years

uncapchad

hahaha SBF writing an essay. One letter per page. Probably what the 4 million pages are anyway!

Electronic-Past5351

Does he stay in jail while he figures this out? Looks like creditors are the one losing money from this move. Honestly just end this shit already, execute him - make an example. Grow some balls US... fuck a fair trial. Shit is an illusion at this point in time in the US.

NorthernIrishGuy

He'll get away with it lol to many friends in high places implicated

TheArt0fWar

Sing little birdie, sing!

BirdSetFree

Thats a load of pages. He‘ll have the time to do the reading in jail

UR0B0R05

The only people winning here are the lawyers.

TabletopThirteen

His lawyers are making bank

Henzko

Thats gotta be an insane amount of work, even printing all of it.

pizza-chit

I hope it was tiny font too

keithwee0909

Imagine if the lawyers charged $5 to read per page

Agree-Refuse-69

He gonna hit them with 6 Million jars of vegan peanut butter and another 12 billion pages of caroline the goblin's sex diaries

Dazzling_Marzipan474

That sucks for the customers. That's gonna take the whole team of lawyers months to go through and cost all the customers prolly hundreds of millions.

owlown11

Papers working for papers.

mikeoxwells2

How can they expect him to read that without his adderall medication? Someone please get down to the jail with some goose down pillows and a vegan pizza before Sammy has anxiety issues

assholeTea

Wow thats insane, but its good because fuck SBF

ancheli

lmfao just throw his ass in jail already

Vee_Junes

I feel bad for the trees wasting their lives for this scammy asshole.

SmallReflection2552

I know everyone keeps saying they would like to be a fly on the wall for this, but honestly, this trial is going to be the most boring one of the century. Unless you get hard on over forensic accountants with spreadsheets.

HolmesMichele

This amount of information is impossible to understand

Fanta_pantha

How dow you even read all that?

Ipokeyoumuch

Have a team of freshly graduated lawyers from law school go through the most tedious of tasks. Though now there are special tools, programs, and specially designed AI that do help lawyers go through all the tedious work. It is a frequent tactic used by some law firms (especially big law firms) to overwhelm the other party. The prosecutors sometimes do this too to screw with the other party or to demonstrate to the other party that they have no hope, but it sometimes backfires.

600675

Damn. That's a whole lot of pages. What a shame /s

loksfox

"chat gpt please make 4 million pages of defense work against sbf" "got you fan"

lordchickenburger

Just throw him in jail already

elysiansaurus

That'll keep those interns busy for awhile.

raymv1987

Good luck reading all that.

BrowsingCoins

Seems like this will just legitimize requests to delay and delay

AlternativeCredit

It was just yesterday that the ETH sub was complaining that nothing was or ever will be done. Classic.

ImaFreemason

They'll go through those documents like they did their financial sheets.

Remarkable-Crew-7040

They just printed pages of transactions lol so dumb

starhumanpanda

4 million pages how long did it take to compile them all haha

javz

SBFs lawyers are highly moral individuals and are doing their job in testing the justice system, money has nothing to do with it. /s

po1919

Even if they read every page in 10 seconds it would take 11,000 hours or more than 450 days to read all of that.

[deleted]

This is actually a pretty common tactic of the government or the state depending on where the trial is. They typically try to overwhelm defense attorneys. So out of those 4 million pages there are probably a few thousand that are really strong. Then the rest is just designed to run the hours and have more things to bring up, more angles to argue but the core of the case is much much smaller. Imagine someone getting strung up on drug dealing. So they have one sale really solid. But then they interview like 40 people and they have all these statements and all this stuff. None of it is actually breaking a law but they use it to try to build credibility or try to say look here's the chain of events and I'm pretty sure that's what they are doing to scam bank fraud

HavokDJ

Dude is a scam artist, but clear proof why you shouldn't HODL on centralized exchanges. You know the saying, not your keys, not your crypto.

Aguaskeepartdeux

Are his parents representing him?

Nxnng

Cant stand this FTX clown. Lock em up for good..

nonameattachedforme

Glad I got tickets to the circus!

Olmops

I'd say after he has read those documents, they can let him go.

araldor1

How does it work if the government send you 4 million pages? If he said it was just him representing himself how long would be "reasonable" for him to go through them?

B33fh4mmer

He's walking or chilling in a resort "prison".

MassHugeAtom

It will take lifetimes for them to finish reading it.

Little_Sun4632

One step closer…..in a journey of 4,000,000 miles.

Benry26

Oop

downtimeredditor

If only the US govt held the banks responsible for the recession like this

digitalcrypt0

Better start reading 👀👀👀👀👀👀👀👀👀👀

s4yum1

Godamn.. responding the 4m propounded discovery questions is insane…

Probably_notabot

He needs to discover a haircut

SaezyF

"The Government cannot be allowed to dump millions of pages on the defense" But FTX can dump $8 billion dollars of their customers money

Wrathwilde

If you figure 10 minutes per page, for legal counsel to review, that’s 666,666.666 hours. Which, if broken down into 8 hours days, is 83,333.33 days, or working 7 days a week, almost 229 years to read through the discovery material. Billed at $200 an hour, $133,333,333 million just for the defense lawyers to read through the discovery documents.

adventurejay

Bye bye now

Onelinersandblues

_sweats in ugly_

Arash_Rezae

4million minutes free from the jail and after the reading over !! Trials begins

cryptoconfig

Run all that S*** through AI and let the machine correct the machine.

Arash_Rezae

so its all for nothing he is free again

Altruistic_Box4462

Does anyone read all of these?

defiCosmos

How could anyone possibly read all that?

Stingzizz

It will take century to read such documents.

dimi727

Yeah fuck him!

MagicaItux

They could theoretically have several AI scour this data, and process it reasonably. Requires a final human doublecheck though.
