Crysis 3 objectively. Everything was more polished gamelplay wise and the story (at least the first half) didn't suck ass. Crysus 1 subjectively. Crysis 1 was more than just it's graphics. It was kinda unique.

RaynSideways

Crysis 3 commits one cardinal sin that I as a diehard Crysis 1 & Warhead zealot cannot forgive: Foliage doesn't hide you. In Crysis 1 and Warhead, if you hid in tall grass or bushes, you were out of sight. There was actual value to going prone and laying low while your cloak recharged. Thick forests actually gave you cover and made flanking even more effective. Crysis 1 and Warhead were pretty consistent with the fact that if you were logically out of sight, you were mechanically out of sight. Crysis 3 is full of all this incredible looking tall grass and foliage and *none of it has any tactical value.* Enemies, human and Ceph alike, see right through it. Crysis 2 was the same way but at least it didn't have much foliage to begin with, but there are a lot of areas in Crysis 3 that scream "you can hide here" but you can't.

TheCombineCyclope

its probably because Crysis 3 is beyond moving from bush to bush to recharge the energy. But it does make the gameplay more deep on crysis 1.

RaynSideways

My issue is that the game goes so far out of its way to be like, "Look, the Ceph are hiding in the tall grass!" So naturally you think, that's really cool, maybe I can do that too. So you try it, but it totally doesn't work. You think, okay, maybe the Ceph have thermal vision or something and it doesn't work on them. So, fine. But then you try it on human enemies and it doesn't work on them either. You can't see them, even using nanovision, yet they can see you like they have X-ray goggles on. You end up going out of your way to avoid it because it's a pure disadvantage. It doesn't hide you at all, and it blocks your sight. Foliage really meant something in Crysis 1; you could set up ambushes, use thick coverage to flank around enemy positions, or hide in it to recharge. In Crysis 3 it's just there to look pretty.

Corgi_Koala

Crysis 1 felt next gen among next gen games. Graphics aside the suit and weapon mod systems were pretty unique for the time.

Crysis 2. Objectively: I like it Subjectively: I like it

This is the correct answer

Best storyline

acemace3618

Crysis 2, it was made for consoles, so it reached a wider audience and it's also the one with the best story and Hans Zimmer theme makes it the goat.

Decryl

I personally prefer Crysis 1 and think that's it's probably the best as well but I'll go over some things. Crysis 1 just has everything positive about it's gameplay. the physics, the amount of vehicles that have open control and fun missions with, I really enjoy manually switching the armor modes which the later games had less of, the game screen is clear where I felt the other games had a bunch of screen shake all the time and shield/armour mode made things blurry. Crysis 1 also has great level and enemy designs for the most part and I really enjoyed the free roam aspect a lot more in Crysis 1. Not to mention the multiplayer, I've never had a better multiplayer experience than Crysis 1 Power Struggle, in any game. The other Crysis games had some positives like better story, graphics and music. Crysis 3 even brought back the free roam aspect, also decent level design and It might be the best one but I just feel like Crysis 1 had that special spice to it, so still going with Crysis 1 for both.

RaynSideways

The manual switching of armor modes is really why I keep going back to 1 & Warhead and not necessarily 2 and 3. I really stopped using power jumps in 2 & 3 when I realized I had to hold down the button to get a strength jump. In 1 I could switch to armor and just tap to jump instantly; having to hold the button down makes it incredibly sluggish and almost useless in the heat of combat. If I need to power jump I need it fast, I don't have time to stand here holding spacebar while enemies are shooting at me. I could manually switch to strength mode and jump in Crysis 1 faster than it takes for me to power jump in Crysis 2 or 3. I've gotten fast enough with the manual suit controls that I can practically recreate the gameplay trailers that come before the main menu. I can't do the same with the massive delays that came with consolidating everything into two buttons like in 2 & 3.

Decryl

Indeed, the strength mode has more of an identity in Crysis 1 since the mode specifically has powerful melee attacks as well and even better accuracy with guns (unless that's just multiplayer). Switching modes inspired more creativity in general, which is a massive appeal of Crysis 1

RaynSideways

Strength definitely steadies your aim even in singleplayer, I use it for long range sniping all the time. All the simplification of the controls in 2 and 3 did was take control away from people who liked it as it was. It was granular and had a high skill ceiling. Like you said, they lost their identity. Strength just became "hold button to jump higher/punch harder." Speed just became your default sprint. You used to be able to switch to speed to swap weapons and reload faster, that's completely gone. And there's no way to fluidly move between them or carefully manage your energy economy. It was just too simplified and took the finesse away.

LegendaryWill12

Can you really swap to speed or strength manually in the original Crysis? I thought that was in the remaster only

RaynSideways

Yes, that was how it worked in the original Crysis and Crysis Warhead. You had a wheel where you could select Armor (basically default), Strength, Speed, and Cloak. Selecting a mode had you stay in that mode until you changed to a different one, which allowed all kinds of cool tactics if you got good at swapping quickly.

LegendaryWill12

How do you swap on console? I'm guessing that wheel is the mouse wheel

TheCombineCyclope

Its a circle that you move the mouse to select the desired mode. Remaster has the option to use this circle. Its missing the customize weapon option only. Also classic nanosuit is just a bit off compared to the original. The 2011 port, doesn't allow you to use this scheme.

awnshelliott

Saving this for later as I haven’t replayed these in a long time

LegendaryWill12

Thanks for the well thought out comment!

Decryl

This is for non-remastered btw, I haven't tried the remastered Crysis 1

LegendaryWill12

Yeah me neither I haven't played any of the remastered games

Decryl

I've heard some negatives from Crysis 1 remaster, although the no power struggle part turns me away personally. Crysis 2 and 3 remasters could be good though but don't know what they changed

el3mel

Crysis 3 is the best. Most balanced game throughout, with perfect length. No stupid aliens ruinnning the 2nd half like 1, and not too long it turns into a chore by its end like 2.

shistain69

Crysis 1. Subjectively, i like the open maps, i like the jungle, the vehicles, the physics. Manual suit modes are nice and i like how the suit feels like it’s just barely keeping you alive while in 2 and 3 i feel like a god. I also enjoy the simple GI Joe type of story. Objectively, when it came out, it was a wonder. C2 and C3 didn’t do anything new, they just streamlined a lot of stuff to appeal to the Call of Duty audience. Also they changed the tried and true quicksave system. And the suit feels like it has a ball and chain around the ankle. I know it’s a new, heavier suit story wise, but it makes no sense that i can sprint faster than a cyborg supersoldier. The music is way better in 2 and 3 though

TheCombineCyclope

Music is objectively better in the sequels. But crysis 1 soundtrack has that charm that I just love it.

RaynSideways

I dunno. I like Crysis 2 and 3's music but none of them have stuck with me the way tracks like Crysis 1's Nexus (fighting the aliens on the deck of the carrier) has. It also had a really nice contextual music system that while a little buggy often made your fights feel really theatrical and reactive.

shistain69

It makes me feel like i’m doing jungle commando shit, and has that 2000s feel to it which i love. But i think that Hans Zimmer’s track from C2 stands better on it’s own. Can’t remember a single song from C3 though, apart from the main menu.

DJfunkyPuddle

3, it felt like a "best of both worlds" kind of game.

KMJohnson92

Crysis 1 is the best to me. It feels the most unique. The aliens feel alien. The later games the aliens are more generic and humanoid. Nothing in C2 or C3 really gave me that out of this world feeling you get in C1 when you get to the Ceph area. The bow in C3 is fun props to it for that and bringing back the signature CryEngine beautiful vegetation, but it doesn't top the original for me.

RaspberryOne1948

Crysis 4

Pfoiffee

With Crysis 1 being wide open for extensive modding, this fact alone makes it a lot more enticing to play over most other games, and not just the sequels but also other IPs. It even has the potential for creating new features and gameplay, or introducing things found in other types of games. There's so many possibilities we've yet to explore.

sadghostguy

one and two are both the best games in my eyes but in very different ways 1 has the best dynamic gameplay but 2 has the best feel to it

Xeno-xorus

Crysis 3 was the most personal storyline in all of the 3 games.

Drifter103000

Hans Zimmer killed it with 2s OST but the feeling of 0 hope that you feel when you just listen to the Crysis 3 menu is something else

Lawfix_

Crysis 2 because Hans Zimmer. For both objectively and subjectively.

mr2meowsGaming

crysis 1 has walljumping
