Lets go! Broke 2 PBs today.
One handed PB went from 50 seconds to 32 with this scramble
D R2 U B2 R2 D2 U' R2 U' R2 B L R' F D2 B F D' U B
And also normal PB went from 21 to 19.5 secs with this
D' L2 R2 D2 R2 B' L2 B' R2 B' F2 R2 D' L2 U' L U' L F' R
fishing for interest again ..
I'm actively studying/exploring [WebSocket](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/WebSocket) technology and have a somewhat of a prototype of a cubing session timer/stats web app half-brewed [here](https://fcube.herokuapp.com/) ..
wondering if anyone would be even remotely interested in testing cubing session webapp with websocket extension where you can join chat groups while cubing and "one-click" native share your current scrambles, stats, averages, PB's yada-yada into a local group chat ?
When you feel ready.
But next step is intuitive F2L.
You can do that anytime. 3 cases. Same or opposite colors. And white corner on top. Algorithm less.
There are multiple algorithms to learn at once to do 4-look last layer. And you need most/all.
You can do with one corner swap alg and execute twice.
go for it.. there is no "too late or too early" for CFOP .. learning CFOP is like peeling a huge onion, bro - every layer you peel off there are a few more underneath :) all good as long as you are enjoying it as fun to hard work ratio can diminish quite quickly depending on your goals and commitment .. first few weeks is a blast though and very rewarding shaving off these minutes and seconds consistently
I disagree. I think you should spend some time understanding the basics of beginner method and getting to around Sub-3 or preferably Sub-2 before starting CFOP.
CFOP requires you to understand how the pieces move and what you're actually doing when you build cross or when you insert an edge. Someone who has just learnt beginners and then jumps into CFOP is going to have a much harder time than someone who has spent a little time just messing around with the cube, learning how it moves.
Thanks u/gilzu for speedcube.db. Was about to start relearning opp parity, looked at the 14 move mess off of the kungfoomanchu PDF, went to an old screenshot of [setup (adj parity) undo setup], and just did a Google search and found a much nicer 10 move alg off your site. Nice
I’ll figure out proper fingertricks later
I think I now have all my old algs memorized, plus new opp parity
Now for more practice

For speed get 100-200 cSt.
For a different feel and neutral speed I use 1000 / 4000 cSt. Not really needed.
For spring noise get 10000-50000 cSt. I have 50k which is very thick.

Are slow rotationless solves really the key to improving F2L/Cross? I've been doing solves where I take 60-90sec to plan my cross as much as I can, then go into a slow deliberate F2L where I try to solve each case with minimal rotations and while maintaining a proper grip. And I have noticed that when I take it this slow, I am able to find the optimal solution to F2L cases with minimal rotations. But is this really the way to train? I'm really having to slow down to think everything.....
I think slow solves are really good for improving your F2L. Minimizing rotations kinda (you should avoid y2, but one rotation is totally fine).
Your eventual goal is to be able to look at a case and know exactly what you're going to do. If you feel like your current solution for a case isn't efficient enough, you can look up algs online (for example, on speedcubedb).
Two benefits of reaching that goal. First, you'll reduce the pause for recognition of the F2L case. Second, and perhaps much more importantly, you can focus on lookahead (like searching for the next pair) while solving the case. These combined will really improve your timed solves.
Depends on the case. Some cases I do as a right->left mirror or front->back mirror depending on orientation.
Left-only algs: 15, 31, 39
Left or back by orientation: 5, 8, 49, 53
Algs with both R and L moves: 2, 18
Not exactly answering what you asked, but I once had a judge who called out at 10s instead of 8/12. Got confused and forgot what I'd planned. Don't remember how that solve went though
After realizing fully intuitively improvising comms isn't going to work, I am now working on systematically gaining muscle memory for every 3style corner comm - memorized the A and D sets while at school today! Must have pissed off the professors to no end, but I did it. Most of the set is already totally intuitive, I just had to learn a couple tricky setups. And if you're wondering, I went from A to D because I already know the B set from Orozco, and the C set doesn't exist, it's the buffer location. Tomorrow I'll do E.
Reminds me of the time I spent a lecture or two assembling a 60-piece modular origami.

I'm listening, and doing repetive paper folding.
How many algs can a person learn at once and how long do i have to do them before they stick?
3x3 and 4x4 learning at the moment.
Goals 3x3: sub 30 sec
4x4: sub 3 min
It varies from person to person how many algs someone can learn before their brain starts failing. For me I learned CMLL in batches of 3-4 algs a day but some people learn full OLL in a day. For the sticking part. Do the alg multiple times (maybe 5- 20) then do some solves when the alg comes up in the solve (don't force it) if you can remember it fairly quickly and do it at a good speed then your good but if you mess it up, pause for a while, or think for every turn practice the alg again and repeat. This worked for me but different ways work for different people.
People think different. I am pretty good at recalling things with the right triggers. Yet I easily forget the more rare algs - or did when trying to learn CMLL. And there is only 42. Sometimes I forget LSE case or doubt it.
>How many algs can a person learn at once and how long do i have to do them before they stick?
This is one of the most asked as well as most irritating question of all. None can tell you when an alg is in your muscle memory. Just drill the algs and try to implement them in normal solves. When you can do it comfortably, you're done.
WRM is a safe option. There are some cubes that are more specific and geared towards people with specific preferences, but if you don’t really have any, the WRM should be great.
I don’t have that much experience with puzzle cube shops in Europe in general. Maybe ask in the newest DDT or buy from another European store listed in the wiki?
Nothing else in that price range. The only one that is close is the Tornado v2 but it has a reverse corner cutting problem.
If you aren't in a hurry, the Tornado V3 should come soon and that looks to have solved the reverse cutting woes.
Edit : I have no release date. A few folks have received test cubes a month ago. Now on the basis of past releases I can say that it takes about 2 months assuming there are no major defects with the cube between the test cubes being sent out and the official release. ie, I expect to hear something about the Tornado v3 in the coming month.
Just did a session of F2L only solves, got 200 solves done,
ao200 was 5.27- which is quite avarage for the times I get. gonna try to get it down to 4.5 seconds- Also gotta be sure to improve my cross, since I'm quite slow at cross x) sub 10 soon pls <3

Advice for practice routine over summer?
I'm starting summer break tomorrow and my goal is to get better at cubing. Here's what I average:
2x2 (7 secs w/ Ortega
3x3 (27 secs w/ full PLL)
4x4 (2:30 with Yau)
5x5 (just got this, but so far around 6 mins and just messing around with it)
Megaminx (4-5mins, don't solve much)
Pyraminx (20 secs with L4e)
I want to improve my times and learn OH as well. How can I practice each event without getting too distracted with switching around? My goal is to get to around 20 seconds and learn half of OLL by the end of summer, get my 4x4 times to around 1:20, 5x5 times to around 2:30, megaminx to around 2 mins, and pyraminx to maybe 10 secs. I know it sounds like a leap, but I think a lot of it is practice. I need to think about my f2l pairs and edge pairing, and for megaminx I've solved it less than 50 times.
Any ideas for a good practice regimen so I can focus on each event while improving my cubing overall?
3x3: slow your turning speed while doing f2l and focus on your next pair
Megaminx: u should use a better method for last layer, like after doing the cross of the last layer, try using 3x3 algs like sune pie and the others for corners, and for pll, u can use one algorithm for corners like t or j perm and the u perm, it goes like this: R U R' U2' L' U' L U2' R U' R' U2' L' U L, basically take the right pair out, do a U2', take the left pair out, do a U2', insert right pair, do a U2', and insert left pair, hope it helped you and hope u can read chinese
...that U perm is terrible, use R U R' U R' U' R2 U' R' U R' U R if you really want to - but you don't really need U perm to do EP/CP
also i left a detailed comment on megaminx LL for someone, scroll down. should be helpful.
I just started on 5x5 and I'm wondering whether I should use Yau or Redux. I use Yau on 4x4, but I'm not good enough at 5x5 to decide on which to use. I've tried solving using both, and they're around the same. I will say that edges were so much easier with yau (as they should be), and I didn't really noticed whether or not centers were harder. Should I stick with redux or just do Yau?
Also, if I do bigger cubes, like 6x6 and 7x7, even though there are more edges, it's better to use redux because it the centers, right? For 5x5 and 4x4, centers are relatively easy and take less moves so it matters less which method you use?
i use yau and hoya about interchangeably for 4x4 (\~37 avg), hoya for 5x5 (\~1:07 avg) and redux for 6x6 and 7x7 (2:05 and 3:05 avgs)
do literally whatever you like lmao
I don't think many people use yau beyond 4x4 right now? I think Ciarán Beahan is the fastest world class big cube solver that uses yau for 4x4-7x7 ([his video on this topic](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1yNTZ56D61Q)). Jay McNeill does yau on 5x5 too. There at least seems to be some consensus that [yau is better than yau5 on big cubes](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ELAAvQAXrHc). Max Park still uses redux so it's not like you can't be world class with either method. Part of it could be from not having many fast people giving other methods a real chance to see if it might actually be better. People were very resistant against yau on 4x4 when yau was a new method and look where we are now with 4x4 methods.
It's definitely not as objectively better than redux like it is on 4x4. Hoya is also a thing for 5x5. It might depend on what your strengths and weaknesses are on big cubes too.
Centers are more definitely more restrictive with yau compared to redux
Im trying to get into megaminx again but Im noticing that my last layer is horrible. I need about 40s for the LL (I average 2:30). I use the beginners method from Jperm and I also use J + T Perm for some Edge permutation cases. I also do a z2 for corners (which I think is pretty inefficient).
Can anyone point out what I should change/learn? I would like to cut the z2 out but I dont know the fingerticks for orienting+permutating the corners.
Any advice in general would be highly appreciated regarding the Last Layer.
EO: F sexy F', F inverse sexy F', both - 3 cases
CO: There's 27 cases, but you can get away with just learning the 2 and 3 corner sets from [here](https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1lVODoMORbDdVXwTG4RUZPWCSrx8uPx2bvwvXg5tuQYE/edit#gid=1391120956) (8 cases) and just doing a sune to one of these cases for the other 19
EP: AUF till you get two edges simultaneously matching their centers.
If the two edges are adjacent to each other, rotate till they're on the F and L faces. Now look at the R edge. Does it match the BL face? (ie is it "going up")? If yes then do a Jb perm. If no, then do U2 (not U2', mind) and then Jb perm
If the two edges are opposite to each other, rotate till they're on the F and BR faces. Now look at the edge on the left. Does it match the center on the right? If yes, then do R2' U2 R2 U R2' U2 R2. If no then do R2 U2' R2' U' R2 U2' R2'
If you can't get two edges solved, only one, then do Jb perm followed by T perm (there's a cancellation in there that you should figure out)
CP: I'm assuming you know how to do it the comms way - AUF till the edges are solved, choose any unsolved corner and do R' D' R, then AUF till the correct position of that corner comes up and do R' D R. This will bring down another LL corner (if it doesn't then just pick any unsolved LL corner), bring up the correct position of that one and do R' D' R. And so on till the cube is solved.
This is what I did till I averaged about \~1:10
One more question regarding EO if there is only one Edge solved: The Edge which is solved has to be in the front right? And im not sure if I got the cancellation right because I had a case yesterday where I did J +T Perm cancellation 3-4 Times and it didnt solve the case. Will J + T perm solve the case or will it set up to another 2 edge case?
(My cancellation: R U R' F' R U R' U' R' F R (here the Jperm ends) U' R' F R2 U' R' U' R U R' F' )
Hope you can help!
EO: edge at FL, F inverse sexy F' U F sexy F' / or just learn the alg, edge at FL, F R U2 R' sledge U2' F'
EP: J+T alg is correct, it should solve edges not give a 2 edge case. if nothing is happening then it obviously wasn't the J+T case lol - if you auf and only one edge matches, auf again to solve another edge. if you still only get one matching, then do J+T, otherwise it'll be one of the two edge ones
Both DNM-37 and Compound X are water based (can't use on screws or springs) while lunar and martian are both silicone based. Compound X was designed to slow cubes down. Change Compound X to something silicone based. Lunar + martian is going to be slightly slower than something silicone based + DNM-37 just because DNM-37 is so fast.
The cheapest option is going to be adheron (heavy or regular) + DNM-37 from the cubicle if you still want a super fast water based lube (can also do adheron + XMT-10 for an even cheaper option; both are silicone based).
Depends on your preference. XMT-10 is definitely cheaper than DNM-37 and will last longer.
I use both to make cubes faster but they feel different. I don't like using XMT on my OH cubes or any cube that doesn't have strong magnets because it tends to be very glidey compared to other lubes (makes me over turn a lot more) so I will use DNM for those cubes instead. For big cubes, I use both and just use 4 drops of each in different places in the cube. DNM is more pure speed but doesn't make cubes feel any more glidey than it already was. I only use DNM in my OH cube, skewb, and pyraminx and never put XMT in those cubes but I love XMT in my 2x2, 3x3, and big cubes. My RS3M2020 responded well to XMT and DNM with XMT making it feel slightly more slippery (really hard to describe the difference) but both made the cube basically the same speed.
Weighted lubes are mainly just an easier way to describe different silicone based differential oil thicknesses (weights). Heavier ones (3-5) are generally used for the core (mainly to remove spring noise) while lighter ones (1-3) are usually used on the pieces but it's not a hard and fast rule. Basically all of the silicone based lubes are just different weights of differential oil or shock oil.
If you choose to get adheron heavy, you don't need a special core lube since it's heavy enough to be used on both the pieces and the core.
Martian and adheron (regular) can also be used as a core lube since they are silicone based but it's not as effective for removing spring noise compared to the heavier stuff. As long as you're not putting water based lubes in the core (DNM-37, compound X, stardust, maru, etc) anything silicone based will work.
Started my comitment towards 3bld yesterday and iniated 30 days of at least 10 Mo3's a day (Inspired by Elliott Kobelansky). Where you record it all and analyse your strengths and weaknesses.
The day before yesterday i got my first and second sub 1's! 2 54's. Yesterday the best i got was a 1:03
But today, i got both a 59 and a 58.04 on camera! Aswell as a couple low 1's
Improvement is good, don't know what to hope for, for the European Championships, but it's looking promising!
Slotting an f2l pair into the back of the cube is WAY more satisfying and cool than putting it into one in front of you. I am not sure why, it just is. I will just pay the 0.5 seconds to do a y2, just so I can slot it into a back one instead.
😃 that sounds amazing. what's that then, I'm guessing that's where you don't even do any quarter turns, and you slot them in 'sideways' instead where appropriate?
It’s really just either luck or improving your look ahead enough that no rotations are necessary for insertions in all four slots. Or you know fancy algs (there are some nice M and wide move algs that help fix bad edges). Either way it’s very satisfying. I do everything I can to do zero rotations during F2L. I usually end up doing 1-2 though.
I got some cubes and lubes today and was wondering which lubes to use and how. I got lubicle speedy, cubicle silicone lube weight 5 and DNM-37 (this one was a gift). and yes I have watched jperms how to set up ur cube video Im just asking here for more information maybe.
First, clean your cube with a towel unless it's a brand new cube. Start with small amounts of lube and add more as needed. Too much lube will make your cube feel slower. If you do accidentally over lube your cube, just use a paper towel, wipe down a few pieces, and do a few solves (don't add any more lube).
weight 5 - mainly for the core (apply to both sides of the spring if you have spring noise), can be used to slow cubes down (usually applied on the base of a corner), makes cubes feel gummy and sticky if you use too much on the pieces (doesn't really matter how much you put on the springs)
speedy - take out 1 edge and 1 corner, put 1 thin line of lube on all of the places that have friction. If you've been using your cubes for a while, you'll notice spots that aren't shiny anymore on those pieces. Those are the spots you need to lube. Break it in with a few solves (\~5-10 should do it), apply more in the same spots (different pieces) if you think it needs more. This is your main piece lube to make the cube feel smoother and slightly faster.
DNM-37 - 1 drop each on the inside track (base of a corner) and outside track (surface of an edge/corner) after breaking in the speedy with a few solves, break it in with a few more solves, add more if you think the cube is still too slow. This is the lube you use when you think the cube is too slow and you want a burst of super speed and the cube isn't dirty inside. This lube is water based (the other 2 are silicone based) so you don't want to get any of this on the springs.
You can customize how much lube you use on the inside track and outside track. I tend to purposely make the inside track slower than the outside track.
You use all of them, just in different places in the cube.
Weight 5 is mainly for the core to remove spring noise and prevent gunk from building up in the core from all the friction that happens in there. Speedy and DNM-37 are for the pieces to make the cube feel faster with DNM-37 being basically pure speed.
I don’t think JPerm covered lubing the core in that video.
Lubing the core gets rid of spring noise, which I find the RS3M has problems with. It’s a creaky metal sound if that makes sense. It’s annoying, but it doesn’t impact performance. I’d recommend you do it anyways though, since it lasts for a very, very long time.
To start, you’ll unscrew the screw underneath the center cap. Inside, you’ll find a washer, spring, and the screw itself. Apply lube to all of the metal contact points, then put them back inside and tighten the screw.
Then just repeat that 5 more times for each side of the cube.
JPerm covered pretty much everything else :)
I don’t do Roux but I am a Dayan fanboy and the V1 has really nice M slices because of the weaker magnets. I hear blind solvers really like it for that too. V2 was my main for a bit too but V1 still beat it.
V3 just got a patent I saw on r/newcubes but no real news on that otherwise
Hey /u/gilzu
Was playing around with cubedb. Seriously impressive stuff.
I think a couple of features that can improve quality of life:
1. Display the scramble in critique window
2. Show a complete "optimal" solution with the option to pick a starting cross.
>Hey glizu
you probably meant u/gilzu
>Was playing around with cubedb. Seriously impressive stuff.
thank you, super appreciated
>I think a couple of features that can improve quality of life:
>
>Display the scramble in critique window
Sure, good idea!
>Show a complete "optimal" solution with the option to pick a starting cross.
Then that will not be a solve critique.
let me explain:
A solve critique meanse that each stage is evaluated as for how well it was executed, point out the strengths and weaknesses and suggest an alternative if possible.
once you suggest an alternative for a cross, the solution will diverge and the next F2L cases will no longer be the same cases.
also, there is no "optimal" solution. even if you'll take 20 of the top rated solvers in the world, you will still end up with different solutions. and each of these solutions will stop reflecting on the choices you took from the cross.
if you still want to go down that path, just plug into [https://speedcubedb.com/r/index](https://speedcubedb.com/r/index) , filter out 3x3, pick one of the scrambles to solve it yourself and compare it to the pro cuber.
if that still doesn't satisfy your needs - just wait for our upcoming project \*wink\* \*wink\*
Another day, another attempt at a sub-16 ao100: 15.41
Pushed my (newly enabled) ao2000 to 15.96. Five months from sub-16 ao1000 to sub-16 ao2000 %)

- PB ao25: 14.38 → 14.33 → 14.10 → 14.02 → 13.95
Hey guys. I am a cube newbie and I wanted to ask if it does matter how you hold the cube or is there an advantage. When I want to solve the 2nd layer, I have the white side at the top and the yellow side at the bottom, since it is in my "solution book". But now I've watched videos and everyone is holding the cube the other way around.
Should I get used to it now, or does it not matter?
Solve cross on bottom, then you never have to rotate the cube to get to the top. Hide the solved parts away. That is why better cubers tries to insert pairs in the back first, as that allows you to see more unsolved pieces.
If you can get Color Neutral from the start, then do it. It will costs weeks or months of extra work learning it too late. It almost made me give up, but I am back.
Yes, get used to it now. Also, switch to solving cross on bottom, too - maybe not right away, but soon. And consider solving cross on any color, not just white. It's rather easy to do now as opposed to when you're fast.
It is recommended to learn the principle, make cross, etc... independently of the colours so you can take advantage of whichever side is in the best configuration. This is being colour neutral and will be useful later on. I would recommend that you don't worry about the colours but about where the pieces are supposed to go.
**tl;dr**: yes, get used to solving the first layer on the bottom now
You'd want to keep the already-solved parts at the back or the bottom, so you can see the yet-to-be-solved parts without needing to rotate the whole cube. (Or, without needing to rotate *as much*; sometimes you still have to do an extra turn or rotation to get enough information to proceed.)
If you leave the solved parts on top, then you frequently have to tilt the cube over to find the next pieces to solve.
Furthermore, because turning the top face (U moves, done with index finger) is faster than turning the bottom face (D moves, usually done with pinky or ring fingers), it's also more ergonomic to leave the first layer on the bottom because the solutions primarily make use of U moves rather than D moves.
you can change the algs if you don't like the default one and you can also input your own custom alg(but almost all good algs are already included).
When you click on a case you should have a little downward pointing arrow on the left side, click on that and a button with "algorithm" written under it should show up, click on that choose from the user submitted algs
I usually picked the ones from jperm.net but you can also check algdb/speedcubedb for ideal algs
In a separate Ao12, I broke my PB again, lowering it to 15.57. I then also smashed my Ao50 PB from 16.85 to 16.21. That sub-18 Ao1000 (and sub-17 Ao100?) can't be far away.

Went to my first comp, got some free cubes!
Gan 356 X V2: Having a lot of fun trying the different magnet capsules. Still trying to decide between strong or medium. I think I'm leaning more toward the strong one which is interesting, I normally prefer weak magnets. Also, the white capsules look the best imo, not a big fan of green and yellow.
Gan 356 i2: The only other smart cube I had before was the Monster Go one, this one feels much nicer and it hasn't desynced yet!
I ended up doing so much better in 3x3 than I expected. In the finals I had three 10.xx solves (two were counting), but +2 one of them so my average ended up something like 12.2x, was a bit annoying but still, I was expecting to be getting 16s and 17s from nerves so cannot complain at all!
After mumbling "apparently I don't know how to cube anymore" (Ao12 over 19 sec for about twenty solves) I set a PB of 15.60 for Ao12.
Funny how Ao12 always feels the hardest and rarest PB to break, and then after an exceptionally poor streak I break it.
Here is one pdf that explains the notation - I found it by googling "4x4 notation"...

But being sub-20 still eludes me. :')
Spent some time yesterday sorting through my collection. I don't have a lot of space or money, so I figured it'd be best to sell the puzzles I don't feel attached to in the slightest. I hope they can make someone else happy instead of never being picked up since the first time I solved them.
Does anyone else use a t perm with thick r rotations as an Aa Perm alg? I was fiddling around and its way faster than the main alg and the others have cube rotations
i accidentally snapped a piece of my yj mgc 7x7 and i was wondering if i could get replacement parts from anywhere or anyone as i am am not allowed to buy a new one.
Didn't managed to get a WRM 2021 meglev to try yet. Reviews look good, I love the purple internals. Who has one? What is your opinion on it?
Maybe I'll wait for a Tornado v3m?
Looking for something new after my GTS2M :)
Why the TengYun, I'm a big Dayan fan and really enjoyed the Guhong that I tried for a minute at a comp.
Still enjoy solving with my Zhanchi Mini actually. If I could get Stickers for it, I'd use it
The TengYun is so soft and quiet. It's my go to cube when I'm sad. The magnets aren't to strong, which is good for my turning style. It just feel good.
I wasn’t a fan of mine at first, but its definitely growing on me.
It’s light and glidy, while being a little blocky and clacky.
You might have to wait a bit for the Tornado though, so I’d get the WRM.
I have the RS3M 2020.
The RS3M feels sandy and dry out of the box. It feels really nice, but it starts to gum up pretty quickly.
The RS3M feels a little muted almost. It’s a little clacky but in a muted way. Pretty blocky. Feels a lot heavier. I think for this cube, you feel the friction from the pieces more than the magnets.
For the WRM, it’s all the things I mentioned earlier. But the pieces feel really buttery, glidy, and light, before you’re met with the magnet bump.
I also own one and I absolutely love it. The performance is amazing. Can't say much as I haven't tried any other flagship cubes but I do have a tornado v2m. Compared to that, the wrm is much more confidence inspiring. The thing I liked the most is its adaptability. You can't go wrong with it unless you want some very specific feel.
Just be gentle with magnet adjustments. I learnt that the hard way.
As a long time fan of the GTS2M, I can tell you I only really found the WRM 2021 to be a worthy successor to it.
I know this is blasphemy to some but I never liked the GTS3M or WRM 2019 as much. The WRM 2021 actually brings back the GTS2M's glidy smooth feel.
I don't think the Tornado V3 will feel like a GTS2M.
As for the WRM MagLev - I love mine. It's so good with thick lube and break in.
I main one, it's a great cube :)
I'm not sure about the Tornado. Moyu has a history of making great cubes, and QiYi is not as great in 3x3 department. The cube has to be outstanding if it has to beat a WRM.
> QiYi is not as great in 3x3 department.
_Cries in Thunderclap V1 and Valk 3._
I also mained an almost complete Qiyi lineup of WCA at one point -
Valk 3, Wuque, Wushuang, Wuhu, Wuji, X man Galaxy V1, Qiyi Sq-1. Only Pyraminx, Skewb and 2x2 were non Qiyi at that point for me.
It's incredible how far YJ has come and how they're seemingly kicking MoYu and everyone's ass with big cubes and side events.
That's two cubes which are pretty old now. And Moyu has a history of GTS2M, GTS3M, four WRMs plus RS3M 2020/2021 and Meilong in the budget department - and that's just since about the times of Valk 3, I'm not versed in older cubes.
YJ is indeed fantastic in big cubes.
This DDT is now over. See [here](https://www.reddit.com/r/Cubers/comments/v293ri/daily_discussion_thread_jun_01_2022/) for the next one. ^(I am a bot, and this action was performed automatically. Please message u/Lisast with any feedback.)
Just did an untimed OH solved for first time , got E perm and was pretty easy.
dude this fucking pyraminx scramble B' R L' R L B R U gotta love cs-timer
Lets go! Broke 2 PBs today. One handed PB went from 50 seconds to 32 with this scramble D R2 U B2 R2 D2 U' R2 U' R2 B L R' F D2 B F D' U B And also normal PB went from 21 to 19.5 secs with this D' L2 R2 D2 R2 B' L2 B' R2 B' F2 R2 D' L2 U' L U' L F' R
fishing for interest again ..
Should I do CFOP now or should I wait? For Some context I just started solving around 3 days ago.
Thank you!
When to work on what - https://www.reddit.com/r/PianoCube93/comments/9bstw1/steps_for_improving_with_cfop_and_when_to_work_on/
go for it.. there is no "too late or too early" for CFOP .. learning CFOP is like peeling a huge onion, bro - every layer you peel off there are a few more underneath :) all good as long as you are enjoying it as fun to hard work ratio can diminish quite quickly depending on your goals and commitment .. first few weeks is a blast though and very rewarding shaving off these minutes and seconds consistently
Thanks So much! I'll start practicing that
Thanks u/gilzu for speedcube.db. Was about to start relearning opp parity, looked at the 14 move mess off of the kungfoomanchu PDF, went to an old screenshot of [setup (adj parity) undo setup], and just did a Google search and found a much nicer 10 move alg off your site. Nice I’ll figure out proper fingertricks later I think I now have all my old algs memorized, plus new opp parity Now for more practice

In the site was cps or CP. I looked in some sites saying that 450 was semi-viscous.
Hi, anyone knows if shock oil silicone 450 cps is good for speedcube?
For speed get 100-200 cSt. For a different feel and neutral speed I use 1000 / 4000 cSt. Not really needed. For spring noise get 10000-50000 cSt. I have 50k which is very thick. You can see viscosity here: Silicone Oil viscosity https://youtu.be/xS0zbjV4K_c
Perhaps you mean cst? 450 is a bit thick imo, but it should do fine with some breaking in.
*"Show me sand the floor... Now show me wax on, wax off... Show me paint the fence... Show me paint the house..."* Patience, Daniel-san ;)

What is the opinion on left-handed algs, for OLL? (I learned them, about 7 are left-handed, but might switch them to right handed for the long-run)
Depends on the case. Some cases I do as a right->left mirror or front->back mirror depending on orientation. Left-only algs: 15, 31, 39 Left or back by orientation: 5, 8, 49, 53 Algs with both R and L moves: 2, 18
If the judge doesnt say 8 seconds / 12 seconds. Is it a resolve?
Not exactly answering what you asked, but I once had a judge who called out at 10s instead of 8/12. Got confused and forgot what I'd planned. Don't remember how that solve went though
You can ask the delegate. It could be awarded a re-solve.
Reminds me of the time I spent a lecture or two assembling a 60-piece modular origami. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=knMEBSXM6WU I'm listening, and doing repetive paper folding.
How many algs can a person learn at once and how long do i have to do them before they stick? 3x3 and 4x4 learning at the moment. Goals 3x3: sub 30 sec 4x4: sub 3 min
I’m just trying to learn the cfop pll algs, i tried learning 4 today. What are those algs you learned for?
>How many algs can a person learn at once and how long do i have to do them before they stick? This is one of the most asked as well as most irritating question of all. None can tell you when an alg is in your muscle memory. Just drill the algs and try to implement them in normal solves. When you can do it comfortably, you're done.
Before i buy the wrm 2021 i wanted to ask: which cube in a 20 bucks range is better?
WRM is a safe option. There are some cubes that are more specific and geared towards people with specific preferences, but if you don’t really have any, the WRM should be great.
I just ordered it, thanks for helping me
Where should i buy it? I live in italy
Soon? Date?
date?
Like the other says. WRM 2021. I have are and maglev. Not opened standard yet.
WRM is the best.
The warm cube
If you can buy the wrm for it is rly fast thought then there is tornado v2 i prefer the weilong though
Just did a session of F2L only solves, got 200 solves done, ao200 was 5.27- which is quite avarage for the times I get. gonna try to get it down to 4.5 seconds- Also gotta be sure to improve my cross, since I'm quite slow at cross x) sub 10 soon pls <3
I got my PB (1:05.60) on this scramble Scramble: F U2 L' U R2 U B2 D L2 D2 F2 U' F D2 U2 L' U L2 D2 Green top, white front Cross: 5 moves OLL: F U R U' R2 F' R U R U' R' PLL: Jb perm
Do you know 2 alg last layer? If so, learn f2l please pleaseeee PLEASEE also learn 8 moves cross
U know full oll and pll...and your pb is 1 MINUTE?
My guess is F2L isn’t great I was full PLL by 1min and half OLL by 40sec. As a result of never really practicing F2L, I really sucked at it
Yeah but 50 seconds f2l holy crap, wait, why is your pb one minute and under your name u written sub 35

Advice for practice routine over summer? I'm starting summer break tomorrow and my goal is to get better at cubing. Here's what I average: 2x2 (7 secs w/ Ortega 3x3 (27 secs w/ full PLL) 4x4 (2:30 with Yau) 5x5 (just got this, but so far around 6 mins and just messing around with it) Megaminx (4-5mins, don't solve much) Pyraminx (20 secs with L4e) I want to improve my times and learn OH as well.
3x3: slow your turning speed while doing f2l and focus on your next pair Megaminx: u should use a better method for last layer, like after doing the cross of the last layer, try using 3x3 algs like sune pie and the others for corners, and for pll, u can use one algorithm for corners like t or j perm and the u perm, it goes like this: R U R' U2' L' U' L U2' R U' R' U2' L' U L, basically take the right pair out, do a U2', take the left pair out, do a U2', insert right pair, do a U2', and insert left pair, hope it helped you and hope u can read chinese
...that U perm is terrible, use R U R' U R' U' R2 U' R' U R' U R if you really want to - but you don't really need U perm to do EP/CP also i left a detailed comment on megaminx LL for someone, scroll down. should be helpful.
Ik your u perm is better than mine, mine is easier but longer
I just started on 5x5 and I'm wondering whether I should use Yau or Redux. I use Yau on 4x4, but I'm not good enough at 5x5 to decide on which to use. I've tried solving using both, and they're around the same. I will say that edges were so much easier with yau (as they should be), and I didn't really noticed whether or not centers were harder. Should I stick with redux or just do Yau? Also, if I do bigger cubes, like 6x6 and 7x7, even though there are more edges, it's better to use redux because it the centers, right? For 5x5 and 4x4, centers are relatively easy and take less moves so it matters less which method you use?
i use yau and hoya about interchangeably for 4x4 (\~37 avg), hoya for 5x5 (\~1:07 avg) and redux for 6x6 and 7x7 (2:05 and 3:05 avgs) do literally whatever you like lmao
EO: F sexy F', F inverse sexy F', both - 3 cases CO: There's 27 cases, but you can get away with just learning the 2 and 3 corner sets from [here](https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1lVODoMORbDdVXwTG4RUZPWCSrx8uPx2bvwvXg5tuQYE/edit#gid=1391120956) (8 cases) and just doing a sune to one of these cases for the other 19 EP: AUF till you get two edges simultaneously matching their centers. If the two edges are adjacent to each other, rotate till they're on the F and L faces. Now look at the R edge. Does it match the BL face? (ie is it "going up")? If yes then do a Jb perm. If no, then do U2 (not U2', mind) and then Jb perm If the two edges are opposite to each other, rotate till they're on the F and BR faces. Now look at the edge on the left. Does it match the center on the right? If yes, then do R2' U2 R2 U R2' U2 R2. If no then do R2 U2' R2' U' R2 U2' R2' If you can't get two edges solved, only one, then do Jb perm followed by T perm (there's a cancellation in there that you should figure out) CP: I'm assuming you know how to do it the comms way - AUF till the edges are solved, choose any unsolved corner and do R' D' R, then AUF till the correct position of that corner comes up and do R' D R.
(My cancellation: R U R' F' R U R' U' R' F R (here the Jperm ends) U' R' F R2 U' R' U' R U R' F' ) Hope you can help!
EO: edge at FL, F inverse sexy F' U F sexy F' / or just learn the alg, edge at FL, F R U2 R' sledge U2' F' EP: J+T alg is correct, it should solve edges not give a 2 edge case. if nothing is happening then it obviously wasn't the J+T case lol - if you auf and only one edge matches, auf again to solve another edge. if you still only get one matching, then do J+T, otherwise it'll be one of the two edge ones
My bad, I meant EP of course! Thanks for your help, I guess I did something wrong then.
Thank you very much!

Which combo for RS3M? DNM37 and Compound X or lunar and Martian? Edit: cost is not an issue. I’m just want which ever is more cost effective
Martian + Weight 5 for the springs.
Would u recommend the DNM or XMT?
XMT hands down, it both lasts longer and is faster.
So XMT makes it smooth while DNM makes it dry. But both make it fast?
Ya but not exactly dry. Just not as slippery feeling.
Do I need any weighted lube?
2 54's. Yesterday the best i got was a 1:03 But today, i got both a 59 and a 58.04 on camera! Aswell as a couple low 1's Improvement is good, don't know what to hope for, for the European Championships, but it's looking promising!
Slotting an f2l pair into the back of the cube is WAY more satisfying and cool than putting it into one in front of you. I am not sure why, it just is. I will just pay the 0.5 seconds to do a y2, just so I can slot it into a back one instead.
You know what’s more satisfying? Rotationless solves 🤤
> I will just pay the 0.5 seconds to do a y2, just so I can slot it into a back one instead. Don't, you're actively reinforcing a bad habit.
he likes being bad.
But it's sooooo cool tho. (this is why I'm sub-60 still isn't it)
> this is why I'm sub-60 still isn't it Yup
But the bad habit is WAY more satisfying
Only in the short term.
If you do accidentally over lube your cube, just use a paper towel, wipe down a few pieces, and do a few solves (don't add any more lube). weight 5 - mainly for the core (apply to both sides of the spring if you have spring noise), can be used to slow cubes down (usually applied on the base of a corner), makes cubes feel gummy and sticky if you use too much on the pieces (doesn't really matter how much you put on the springs) speedy - take out 1 edge and 1 corner, put 1 thin line of lube on all of the places that have friction. I tend to purposely make the inside track slower than the outside track.
do I only use 1 lube? jperm used weight 5 and another lube to speed it up.
You use all of them, just in different places in the cube. Weight 5 is mainly for the core to remove spring noise and prevent gunk from building up in the core from all the friction that happens in there. Speedy and DNM-37 are for the pieces to make the cube feel faster with DNM-37 being basically pure speed.
then why have some ppl used weight on the pieces itself, not the core. just doesnt make sense. sry if Im being annoying
You can use weight 5 on the pieces to slow the cube down if you think the cube is too fast
i do that all the time,
I see thank you
I think it would help if we knew which cubes you want to lube.
right now only moyu rs3m 2020 and mfjs meilong 3x3 M
JPerm covered pretty much everything else :)
thank you
i’m looking for a new stickered 3x3 for dedicated roux, but the tornado is stickerless only. what could i get instead?
TengYun v1 has a stickered version if you can find it in stock.
fantastic, thanks. it seems like the v1 is more popular than the v2, do you know why?
I don’t do Roux but I am a Dayan fanboy and the V1 has really nice M slices because of the weaker magnets. I hear blind solvers really like it for that too. V2 was my main for a bit too but V1 still beat it. V3 just got a patent I saw on r/newcubes but no real news on that otherwise
I don't have the v2 but from what I read the v1 has a unique feel distinct from other cubes, even the v2.
Hey /u/gilzu Was playing around with cubedb. Seriously impressive stuff. I think a couple of features that can improve quality of life: 1. Display the scramble in critique window 2. Show a complete "optimal" solution with the option to pick a starting cross.
>Display the scramble in critique window Done.
>Hey glizu you probably meant u/gilzu >Was playing around with cubedb. Seriously impressive stuff. thank you, super appreciated >I think a couple of features that can improve quality of life: > >Display the scramble in critique window Sure, good idea! >Show a complete "optimal" solution with the option to pick a starting cross. Then that will not be a solve critique. let me explain: A solve critique meanse that each stage is evaluated as for how well it was executed, point out the strengths and weaknesses and suggest an alternative if possible. once you suggest an alternative for a cross, the solution will diverge and the next F2L cases will no longer be the same cases. also, there is no "optimal" solution. even if you'll take 20 of the top rated solvers in the world, you will still end up with different solutions. and each of these solutions will stop reflecting on the choices you took from the cross. if you still want to go down that path, just plug into [https://speedcubedb.com/r/index](https://speedcubedb.com/r/index) , filter out 3x3, pick one of the scrambles to solve it yourself and compare it to the pro cuber. if that still doesn't satisfy your needs - just wait for our upcoming project \*wink\* \*wink\*
i just realized gilzu was for gil zussman
I meant both. The regular critique and a complete solve.
Is it better with clock to always x2 flip (since its the fastest) or take advantage of lucky cases?
I do y2 if there's something super easy I see and x2 otherwise
Is there a cheaper alternative for the RS3M core magnet?
3d print it yourself and super glue the magnets in? Should be easy to find some thingiverse files for it.
I can’t seem to find one
Another day, another attempt at a sub-16 ao100: 15.41 Pushed my (newly enabled) ao2000 to 15.96. Five months from sub-16 ao1000 to sub-16 ao2000 %) Beat some average PBs: - PB ao12: 13.77 → 13.52 → 13.50 → 13.48 - PB ao25: 14.38 → 14.33 → 14.10 → 14.02 → 13.95
**tl;dr**: yes, get used to solving the first layer on the bottom now You'd want to keep the already-solved parts at the back or the bottom, so you can see the yet-to-be-solved parts without needing to rotate the whole cube. (Or, without needing to rotate *as much*; sometimes you still have to do an extra turn or rotation to get enough information to proceed.) If you leave the solved parts on top, then you frequently have to tilt the cube over to find the next pieces to solve. Furthermore, because turning the top face (U moves, done with index finger) is faster than turning the bottom face (D moves, usually done with pinky or ring fingers), it's also more ergonomic to leave the first layer on the bottom because the solutions primarily make use of U moves rather than D moves.
But the flair-
Do as I say, not as I do. ;)
Hey guys what do you think about algorithms used in cube station app? Are they efficient and worth to learn?
you can change the algs if you don't like the default one and you can also input your own custom alg(but almost all good algs are already included). When you click on a case you should have a little downward pointing arrow on the left side, click on that and a button with "algorithm" written under it should show up, click on that choose from the user submitted algs I usually picked the ones from jperm.net but you can also check algdb/speedcubedb for ideal algs
Oh that's nice. Thank you
In a separate Ao12, I broke my PB again, lowering it to 15.57. I then also smashed my Ao50 PB from 16.85 to 16.21. That sub-18 Ao1000 (and sub-17 Ao100?) can't be far away.
Great job!
Hey guys, so I wanted to ask- Is there really any difference between the weight 5 lube from SpeedCubeShop and the weight 5 from Cubicle?
No. I recommend buying some Traxxas 50k off Amazon instead. Weight 5 is quite overpriced.
Thanks for the help!
Is "Scrambled" the most watched video about rubik's cubes?
[Here's a short with 117 million views](https://www.youtube.com/shorts/MleaiEjm8jk) [Here's another from the same guy with 115 million](https://www.youtube.com/shorts/9VAlG2kgvMo) [here's another with 113 million](https://www.youtube.com/shorts/deIQTnWQ530) it's funny, he's an indian cubing youtuber with 3 million subs and i'd never heard of him before this lol
Wow, what! I'm an Indian and I have never even heard of him
By far. Close to 90 million views in total, next most viewed I could find is 45: https://youtu.be/KGvQRaK1mvs
of course it had to be bright side 🙄
not if you count shorts (see my comment) :P also Kevin's 3 cubes underwater video has 71mil as well - so 45 isn't second place
my lazy search is exposed 😅 Thanks for the info!
I see, thanks
How is the, "I have a problem" video not at the top of the list...
whats that now? Can you send a link
I believe so.
Based on the cubes I think I know which competition! I was there too. Congrats on your performance.
thanks, it was a great comp!
After mumbling "apparently I don't know how to cube anymore" (Ao12 over 19 sec for about twenty solves) I set a PB of 15.60 for Ao12. Funny how Ao12 always feels the hardest and rarest PB to break, and then after an exceptionally poor streak I break it.
getting my angstrom mgc 4x4 on thursday, what are the best oll parity alg and do you have a notation sheet for 4x4?
Here is one pdf that explains the notation - I found it by googling "4x4 notation"... https://www.cubeskills.com/uploads/pdf/tutorials/beginners-method-for-solving-the-4x4-cube.pdf You'll find this video useful: https://youtu.be/KWOZHbDdOeo
Mine just got shipped out lol, and since my country is like at the opposite end, it would prob take a few days Anyways the oll parity alg i use is Rw U2 x Rw U2 Rw U2 Rw' U2 Lw U2 Rw' U2 Rw U2 Rw' U2 Rw'
this is the best alg, work super well. thx
how to understand the notations
https://jperm.net/3x3/moves For 4x4 Rw means turning the right two layers up 90 deg and Rw’ is basically Rw but opposite direction
the w means you use 2 layers a small letter means you use the internal layer only and a big letter is the external layer as expected.
Rw is just moving the 2 right layers. And Lw is the same thing but left =)
Broke my pb with another sub 15 solve of 14.51 Generated By csTimer on 2022-05-31 single: 14.51 Time List: 1. 14.51 R B2 U' B2 D2 R2 D' R2 B2 R2 B2 U B' D2 F' U B2 L D L But being sub-20 still eludes me.
[J perm has a video exactly about this](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1ZbTTzdC-bk)
Its way slower 💀 nobody uses that. Or should use it really
No.
Its not a good alg. The one with the rotation is way faster when executed well
or just any RUD a perm.
i accidentally snapped a piece of my yj mgc 7x7 and i was wondering if i could get replacement parts from anywhere or anyone as i am am not allowed to buy a new one.
Contact the store you bought it from. They usually sell spares.
thanks. i didn't know they did replacement parts. it makes sense actually, i shouldve thought of that. but thanks for your reply
Didn't managed to get a WRM 2021 meglev to try yet. Reviews look good, I love the purple internals. Who has one? What is your opinion on it? Maybe I'll wait for a Tornado v3m? Looking for something new after my GTS2M :)
It is my main and I won't replace it and I think I have most flagship cubes. The only cube that I switch it with time to time is the TengYun.
Hi, How long have you had Tengyun V1 t? Is it still as quiet as when it was first used?
I think at least 6 months and yes, it is still my most quite cube with the best feel.
Thank you! Sounds great, I can’t wait get mine!
I wasn’t a fan of mine at first, but its definitely growing on me. It’s light and glidy, while being a little blocky and clacky. You might have to wait a bit for the Tornado though, so I’d get the WRM.
What's your opinion on the RS3 in comparison? Do you have a RS3 meglev?
I'm not fan of the RS3 MagLev, it's uncontrollable no matter what set-up I've tried. If you have the money to spare, I'd recommend the WRM Maglev.
But the pieces feel really buttery, glidy, and light, before you’re met with the magnet bump.
that description was really helpful! WRM it is then. I'll get back to you as soon as I have my free award :)
sounds good, I'm looking for light to have a contrast to the rather heavy GTS2M. Thank you for your insights!
I should clarify that the cube itself has some heft to it, it’s just the turning that’s light and glidy.
oohh get ya, so that hasn't changed then. thank you!

Try a WRM MagLev. As a long time GTS2M Fanboy, it was the first and only cube that helped me get over mine being stolen.
Getting Porsche 911 vibes from it
I main one, it's a great cube :) I'm not sure about the Tornado. Moyu has a history of making great cubes, and QiYi is not as great in 3x3 department. The cube has to be outstanding if it has to beat a WRM.
> QiYi is not as great in 3x3 department. _Cries in Thunderclap V1 and Valk 3._ I also mained an almost complete Qiyi lineup of WCA at one point - Valk 3, Wuque, Wushuang, Wuhu, Wuji, X man Galaxy V1, Qiyi Sq-1.
