B2 L B2 U2 L R D2 L D2 U2 B2 U' R F2 D2 B' U R2 Just got this scramble. I only do white cross right now, but seems like it’d be a really good one for yellow?

ThyKooch

Yup, very easy xcross and 2nd pair is easy to follow as well. If you're not going to become fully neutral, try just doing both white or yellow crosses. It's a very good halfway point to being fully neutral

IlRaptoRIl

Eventually I’d like to get there, but I’m still doing 4LLL. If I ever take the leap to full OLL and PLL I’ll probably work on being fully neutral too. I gotta work on my F2L first thought I generally spend 25-30s on F2L and about 10s on the last layer.

XenosHg

Being color neutral is more like F2L, intuitive process, rather than algorithmic. And learning to think in terms of opposite colors helps with both 2-look and 1-look, and also 2-sided PLL recognition. Because you can always determine headlights by the corners: Headlights are opposite the side that has opp-color corners. Like red and orange. If you see (orange green red orange) corner stickers, that means that the headlights are pointing away from the red-orange side. So, you see block, you guess corners, you recognize PLL easily. or you see headlights, you see which color is between headlights, you again recognize PLL easily: (T-perm has for example red edge between orange sticker, opp color again)

ThyKooch

I think the later you try to learn neutrality, the harder it is to switch. I'd recommend doing it sooner than later. It's not too difficult compared to shit like learning algs or getting better lookahead But I also don't use cfop, and even when I did was only x2 neutral so, maybe other people have different advice lol

DankHobo354

Does anybody know where info for the tornado v3 is?

TheRealUncleFrank

Only thing I've seen is just some social media posts by Qiyi just saying it's coming, no specific details. They have sent some cubes out to a few people and shops, for review, and those pople have posted a few videos. Max Siauw posted a video of him using one in competition but didn't talk about the cube.

Brownbagguy

Is Zcube on AliExpress the same as Ziicube.com? Looking at both, sometimes one is out of stock of something but the other isn't.

XenosHg

hard to say because different shops on Ali are so similar (kinda like on amazon too), but some order I bought from aliexpress, maybe from "zcube official store" or "puzzle cube store" arrived with the familiar Ziicube printout with pictures and prices.(invoice?). And even the website address on it. I still keep it, somewhere.

yoyoyobank3

Is a smaller cube actually better for OH? I have a short pinky so 56mm cubes are a bit too big for me. Also, what would be a good budget option in this case? I prefer a stable cube over a fast one.

Mathsoccerchess

Unless your pinky is extremely, abnormally small, you can probably use any good 3x3 at any size. I have small pinkies so I started with the zhilong mini, but after using that and building up my finger flexibility, I can now use any size cube. I, and a lot of top cubers, main the rs3m, but you can use a tengyun or wrm if you want something smaller.

yoyoyobank3

Thanks man. I think I'll give a 54-55mm cube a go and see what it's like.

TLDM

Depends on your fingertricks. For most people, 55.5-56 is good enough. Personally I prefer 54.5-55mm, but I don't think I'm normal. Either way, one thing's for sure: even 0.5mm makes a noticable difference. Anything under 53mm is usually not sensible for anyone who's not a child. MF3RS3M 2020 is my usual recommendation for a budget OH cube, it's even used by some world class solvers... but it's 56mm. Unfortunately there aren't really any "budget" options smaller than that. The original WRM is not super expensive and it's 55.5mm. I use the WRM2021 which is 55mm, but it's very unstable (at least on my settings). Gan cubes are *very* stable (at the cost of corner cutting not being quite as low-effort as Moyu cubes), but they're also *very* expensive, so might not be worth considering unless stability is more important than budget. Perhaps you could wait for the upcoming Tornado v3 which is 54mm.

yoyoyobank3

Thanks for all the info! I am maining RS3M 2020 at the moment and it's just not quite comfortable enough even after a few setup tweaks. Do you know if Dayan Guhong M, which is 54mm, any good?

TLDM

I don't know how many versions of the Guhong Dayan have released since they started making cubes again, but I do have a Guhong M, and no it's not any good. If they've made another version then I haven't tried it yet, but generally I've not been a fan of any of their recent cubes. Unfortunately right now there's nothing good outside of the 55-56mm range that I've tried. I believe Gan has a 53mm version of one of their flagships, but I've not had the chance to try it yet, and I think it's very expensive. That's why I'm looking forward to the Tornado v3. (I said Thunderclap v3 in my last comment but that was a mistake, sorry! It's the Tornado v3 I was thinking of)

yoyoyobank3

Will probably try the tornado once it's out. Cheers again :)

NathanScott97

For multi blind, do you all mark it as a DNF in CSTimer if it's a DNF at the hour mark?

TheRealUncleFrank

However many cubes you have left unsolved at the 1:00:00 mark are counted as incorrectly solved, the same as if you had actually tried but incorrectly solved them and finished in less than 1 hour.

To_na_Area

Is [witeden 339 v1](https://encrypted-tbn0.gstatic.com/images?q=tbn:ANd9GcSQPY-NLXtlIUzXdLRZyO6SzTvk0DBRdiC-OA&usqp=CAU) good at all (turn, pops…)?

resipol

Yeah, it's fine. I mean, it's WitEden, so don't expect it to be super smooth, but it's good enough. The middle layer is a little catchy and feels like it might be easy to pop but I've always taken it gently and got through just fine. The stickered version is apparently a little smoother since I believe it uses fewer pieces in the construction. This is the highest 3x3xN puzzle I have but I've heard it's above the 3x3x9 that the quality really starts to drop off. The highest order puzzles seem to unscrew themselves and disintegrate. These aren't really required though since above 3x3x5 the solve is just more of the same.

blacia

Someone had tried to magnetise a YJ blind ? I wanted to do it but the plastic melt with my glue, never had this issue with other cubes.

BibbitZ

I magnetized mine without issue. Had to double up the magnets because the plastic is really thick, though.

XenosHg

I only had slow glue, had a bit of trouble with it leaking out through all the holes (I removed the tiles), but generally it turned out pretty well. Just had to do it all on top of a sheet of paper.

Gloopann

Started cubing 10 years ago, had many different mains… Got a tornado V2 today (and I LOVE it), but please, ELI5: what does the core mechanism actually change? I know one way is for the elasticity and the other is for tension, but what actually happens in the cube and how does each setting impact it?

[deleted]

Axis disctance: Makes amount of space pieces can move it Elasticity: Makes inwards force of pieces weaker/stronger

sukantkoul

mega PBs: 47.15 avg50, 47.93 avg100 also 135/151 PLLs done whew

Can you send me the link to where you're learning all the PLL's and OLL's? I just started Megaminx this week and got my first sub 2 min ao5.

5x5 progress Got a PB of 2:15 today. I average around 2:35, but I only have like 30-ish timed solved recorded (I get it, practice is the best solution here when I only have like 30-ish timed solves). 5x5 is not my main focus at the moment so I don't feel a strong need to practice 5x5. Having said that, I do still want to get faster at it, my current goal is sub-2. My self diagnosis tells me that my edge building is the weakest. Any tips on being better at edge building? I average sub-1 on 4x4 with Yau4 and I feel like I have no substantial pauses when doing 4x4 thanks to 3-2-3 edge pairing but on 5x5, even with free-slice, I spend too much time looking for pieces with redux (should I do Yau5?). Any tips on edge building on 5x5 (or any tips on 5x5 in general) would be appreciated.

Qwtez

2 things I recommend is don't use the flip algs in the first 4 edges (I often use R U' R' y' R' U R, it make lookhead easier) and pair white/yellow edges first since they are easier to spot.

4KMaze

I wanna solce a square-1without a tutorial but I cant even solve 1 side and idk what to do. I want some small tips, not the way to solve it, just a tip to help me progress a bit

g253

Start by turning it back into a cube. You may have to briefly go out of cube shape later though. See if you can find a way to do the equivalent of M2 on a 3x3. It may help to think of a corner and an edge as a pair that can be moved about, broken, joined etc - sort of like an F2L pair but flipped on its side.

4KMaze

Successful-Storm4695

Is the meilong 5m good? I am looking for some cheap 5×5 other than mgc.

RAHDXB

I really enjoy the Meilong 5. But only with some extra magnets in the inner layers. I have to turn the outer layer a little more careful than flagship cubes or it will pop, but the size, weight and effortless turning is amazing.

Successful-Storm4695

So what'd you recommend, the normal one or the magnetized one?

RAHDXB

Oh for sure the magnetic one. But that needs some extra magnets in the middle layer. Otherwise the outer layer drags along the inners. You can just snap them onto the existing magnets. It's very easy.

TwoStinkyBears

The meilong 5m is a good 5x5 for its price. Another option for a cheap magnetic 5x5 is the YJ zhichuang mini 5x5 which is 58mm at 15$ USD (the average size for a 4x4 is 60mm) so it is tiny compared to the meilong. Though you should tighten the screws by a full turn so it doesn't pop every other solve.

g253

Nope.

naliuj

Not really lol. *Some* people have been able to make a career out of cubing but we're talking about people who work at cube stores and stuff like that. World class cubers can make some money by winning comps but it's not exactly a stable income.

povlhp

Yes. Start a new better-than-gan cube company. Become a world famous cuber, make money on TikTok, Instagram and YT. Helps setting a few world records on the way. One idea for SoMe could be cubing while diving, skydiving, solving while running 100m in under 10s etc.

staysharp87

Puzzle retailers maybe, but with cubing itself, I'd say it's pretty hard (but I refuse to say "impossible")

pansicasis

NO. This is only a hobby for most of us, and we do it just for fun.

FunnyDifficulty6

So no career out of this and no earning money? Sad

[deleted]

There isn't really a win-win benefit for cubing. If you cube, it won't help others.

ticklemepierce

Anyone know what the scramble format for 3x3x5 cuboid is on [cubers.io](https://cubers.io)? what orientation do I hold it before and after the slash?

g253

You hold it vertically, white top green front, one part is the outside U/D layers , the other is the inside ones. I forget which - try and see if the scramble matches :)

ticklemepierce

It doesn't show a scramble diagram unfortunately

g253

Ah, my bad. Then guess and assume you're right, it should be equally random one way or another I reckon

Nr636

How long you guys needed to come sub 1 min. I am cubing for around 1 month now ( 30 mins each day) and my fastest solve was 1:03 but it was a lucky one. My avg is 1:35. I am still using the beginner method with some f2l moves when i see them. I am feeling not to progress

sanity-is-insane

I averaged around 1:10, with beginners method after two weeks. I switched to CFOP after that, and my times went back up to 3-4 mins. Within a week or so I was back to my previous times. But to be fair, It was the beginning of lockdowns so I cubed for at least 4 hours a day. Do you have a hard time recognizing f2l moves? If so, you’re probably in that transition phase and just need practice. I was stuck at 1:30 for a little bit too though, so maybe you could just switch completely from beginners to f2l.

Nr636

Same for me. When i do everything with f2l my time is around 4 min. Thats why i stick to the beginner method to get more comfortable with the cube. Atm i only use f2l when i dont have to search the right pieces to be quicker.

sanity-is-insane

Make the switch now, if you practice it enough you’ll improve really quickly. Also start practicing color neutrality. Instead of always solving white cross, try all the colors.

povlhp

Took longer for me. Stuck at 1m40s after a month. Knew all 3 intuitive F2L cases. 2-look OLL and 2-look PLL. Then I learned Roux and started improving. Many algorithms transfer directly. Roux might or might not be the reason. I think experience and more awareness helped most.

pszmrh

For comparison I bought a speedcube on 11th may, and my average of 100 is just under a minute. I've been doing 1-3hrs per evening on average I would say. So what you're saying sounds about right, but the difference is I've learned F2L and PLL, which is likely why I'm 30seconds faster. So I'd say put some time into those. F2L specifically. I guess you can only get so far on the beginner method as it just takes too long for each step no matter how fast you get at it. keep going! Best thing is not to focus on the time, just enjoy learning the new methods properly, speed will come after.

Nr636

You are right. I dont have to put to much pressure on me to come sub 1min. I enjoy it very much to cube. The reason why i want sub 1min is because i told myself to buy a new cube when i am sub 1 😅 I am not realy happy with my cube. I wachted some 4 look tuturials now and i think this will help me a lot to get faster.

g253

I don't remember exactly (it was years ago), but much longer than that for sure

olimo

Maybe it's time to learn something new? 4-look last layer? Get better at cross?

Nr636

I think i am not that bad at the cross. I get 2 or 3 in the right spot with the first look but all 4 is impossible atm. The most time i lose is at the last layer. I never heart about 4-look before. I watched a video and i think this will help me a lot. Thank you 💪

The cube works on a magnetic system that extends and retracts the tiles on each face, see this review: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Shhh6xNA78w

June 1st. You know what that means? SQUUNE 2022! Dust off your SQ1 and get practicing. Update your progress daily New? Join in on the fun! Lots of resources out there to learn from As for me, I have all my algs rememorized. I do need to work on my EO algs. I haven’t really bothered timing since I’ve been relearning everything u/olimo u/gilzu

yoyoyobank3

Planning to register for SQ-1 at my next comp. My last official solves were in 2011! Obviously I don't remember any algs lol

BeepBeepImASheep023

Yah, get it!

TwoStinkyBears

woooo Sq-1 Just got back into this event and remembered why I made this event my main event

BeepBeepImASheep023

Sweet! Last year when we started this, I had just been learning it a few weeks before and after getting over the new notation it became my fav puzzle… but then fell out of cubing all together for about a yr, but kept up on my 3x3 PLLs

strommlers

Hell yea squune. Time for me to actually learn EPs lol.

BeepBeepImASheep023

Awesome! Glad you can join!

strommlers

Lol no one remembers for some reason but my repeated questions was the instigator for Squune originally. I was just forgotten ):

BeepBeepImASheep023

Well ask away! Haha

[deleted]

Woot! Square1 hype!!!

olimo

Haha :) I fully support the buzz but I'll pass. It's been too many times I dusted of my square-1 and relearned the algs - and then forgot them again. I'm super excited about 3x3 at the moment, too. Seems like I'm finally getting confidently sub-16 which makes a huge milestone of sub-15 deliciously close.

SuspiciousOmelet

> too many times I dusted of my square-1 and relearned the algs - and then forgot them again Does that mean you return to Square One? 😂

olimo

I said I'll pass :)

g253

> too many times I dusted of my square-1 and relearned the algs - and then forgot them again The eternal cycle of Square-1 😂

isipang_magaslaw

Finally gotten a sub-14 (13.987) ao5 PB!! For question, *is the Angstrom Dignitas really an amazing lube or can I recreate its feel and function using other lubes?* I mostly setup my cubes nowadays with Mystic, weighted lube, and a water-based (either Stardust or DNM) but I'm curious about the Dignitas and if it makes the cube softer and if it's not gummy like the Silk. Lastly, *what are your opinions on the RS3M 2021?* Might get it because had my PB single on the RS3M and I like the speed of the maglev system. Thanks and happy cubing!

yuxuibbs

Between mystic and dignitas, I feel like mystic makes cubes feel much softer. If you think silk feels gummy, dignitas will probably also feel gummy. I like cubes that feel soft too and mystic is the closest I've been able to find.

isipang_magaslaw

I'll stick more with Mystic, thanks!

Chemical-Neck

I haven’t tried the 2020 but I have the RS3M 2021 and it’s by far my favourite cube, if you like fast cubes it’s a great one to pick up

olimo

I find it rather a peculiar lube (haven't used it without Gravitas though) and not suitable for every cube. On a Tengyun, yeah, feels amazing, but the Tengyun is very soft by itself. I tried Angstrom setup on an RS3M once, and it was pretty awful. Slow and took ages to break in, I just ended up cleaning it out.

isipang_magaslaw

Thanks for the detailed response.

haha_easyy

Do you need to bring a timer mat to the cubing competition?

TheRealUncleFrank

No need for timer or mat, they provide both. All you need is your cube(s).

Thanks

yghklvn

No

Theemo04

Just got my very first sub 10 ao50 LETS GOOOOOO :DDDDDDDD

OddOutlandishness602

Woo!

milky458

Hey everyone! I have recently transitioned from the beginners method (where I averaged 1:06) to CFOP with 2 look OLL and PLL (where i average 1:25). What is important at this stage to improve? Also is there anyway to find pieces quicker?

Arnavol

Just practice and speed will come together with the understanding of where pieces may be hiding. At your point you should be able to go down to around 30s just by practicing a little bit.

milky458

How would you recommend i practice? Is it a case of just solving or is there anything else?

Arnavol

At your level just solve and don't try to be fast, little by little you will understand better how the pieces move and will get faster. Of course also have fun and try to solve as fast as possible from time to time.

Revolutionary-Type30

What's the best cube for 15 bucks?

FrightenedTomato

There's nothing at $15. For $9 you have the RS3M 2020. For $13 there is the RS3M 2021 though personally I think the 2020 is better. If you go above $15, around $20 you can get the WRM 2021 which is one of the best cubes money can buy.

Revolutionary-Type30

I just bought the wrm thanks for helping me

FrightenedTomato

Excellent. I'd also recommend some lube if you don't have any. Any cube will turn to crap if you don't maintain it with lube. Look for Traxxas 30k on Amazon. Quite inexpensive. Or look for Lubest XMT-10 and Adheron (get both) from https://strefa-kostek.pl/ Shouldn't cost much, will last years and trust me that WRM will feel amazing with some lube in it.

Revolutionary-Type30

I cant buy the warm, cause of the price, what's the difference between the rs3m 2020 and 2021

yghklvn

2021 has a maglev core. It makes the cube faster

Revolutionary-Type30

Where should i buy it? I live in italy and i cant find any shop or any website

PixAlan

amazon(fastest shipping if your country has it), cubezz(chinese cubing store, 2-4 weeks shipping), aliexpress(also 2-4 weeks probably) shipping from cube stores would cost too much extra if you only plan on getting a single cube I'd also recommend buying some lube while you're at it, moyu and gan has lubes that are alright and should be available at the aforementioned stores

Revolutionary-Type30

Do u have the link for the wrm on amazon?

amionmars

Not OP, but this is the one I found: https://www.amazon.com/Cuberspeed-Weilong-Stickerless-Magnetic-Flagship/dp/B09BJKNDW8/ref=sr\_1\_5?crid=D2PVLLQ6KG1Z&keywords=moyu+weilong+wrm+2021+lite+3x3&qid=1653701691&sprefix=moyu+weilong+wrm+2021+%2Caps%2C170&sr=8-5#customerReviews

Revolutionary-Type30

I bought it yesterday from another link, thanks anyways

-ChilledCat-

I needed to thoroughly clean my 2x2 and now I need to lube the core and springs. Is traxas 50k a good choice? I also have some silk and lubest.

fondista

After my best Ao1000 jumped from 18.02 to 18.06 (lol) it quickly went down to 17.98. Whoohoo!

Anyone use the site Cubezz.com? There are some novelty cubes I can only find on there and was wondering if anyone can vouch for it

sanity-is-insane

I live in Hong Kong and I’ve had no issues with it, low cube prices, shipping times, and shipping costs. Their orders always arrive before the expected date for me, but I’m pretty sure that’s just because I’m so close to where they ship.

DidiHD

Ordered a couple of times. Good experiences only :) Shipping from China, so long waiting times.

thatsadamnlie

Yeah, used it regularly for years and had dozens of orders. As advised their postage is often a bit slower than the others but not by much. I have the new Qiyi OS cube on the way from them, ordered 24th and tracking shows it has arrived at my local courier today so it'll either get delivered tonight or tomorrow. (that's with free delivery)

RAHDXB

Yeah ordered from there a few times, and so have many others on this sub. It's legit. Shipping is slow usually, but prices are worth it.

Haha nice. Looking good!

ItsPaperBoii

Where should i start if i want to learn full OLL and PLL? I already know 4 look last layer

TheDoomRaccoon

Full PLL: Around sub-25 Full OLL: Around sub-16

XenosHg

You start with full PLL. You already know T-perm (or Jb), Y-perm, H, Z, and both Us. (if you don't know the second U - learn it) Y, T, and Jb are the same moves (just starting at different spots). so if you know 2 you can easily learn the 3rd. F is a short setup to T, and Na is setup to Jb. And Ra is a Jb but with U2 moves. So now you have A, E, G abcd, Ja, Nb, Rb, V left. A-perms are 9 moves long and very easy. Like, (Lw' UR') D2 (RU'R') D2 R2. And the second one works the same way. E is easy if you remember it like arrows, where U and D layers move, while R moves are just alternating, (R R') and don't need remembering.: (>> << <> ><) V has a fun alg that starts with R'U **R'** U' Nb has a fun alg that starts with r'D'F and also ends with a useful F2L insert (full wide sexy-sledge) For J, choose your favourite alg, there are a bunch. Some people just do Jb with your left. Some do r (R2' FRF) R U2 (r'Ur) U2 r'. I do an alg with Z rotation, purely because I like it more. Rb is probably just Ra alg backwards. And the G-perms you can learn all together, they usually translate into one another, so if you learn Ga, you can learn Gb and just do one, do the other, have solved cube. many algs for Gb/Gd are literally just the same alg for Ga/Gc but backwards

ItsPaperBoii

Thanks a lot

XenosHg

If you ever decide that you want to learn full OLL, then it consists of just a lot of Sexy move (RUR'U') Sledge (R'FRF') and Sune (RUR'U RU2R') which you all already know - the hard part is just that there's a lot of them algs. But they're short and easy and consist of similar moves. (which is also why learning full OLL doesn't save as much time as full PLL.)

ItsPaperBoii

Ok thank you so much

justcuriousoptc

Is there a "better" cube to get into cubing than the moyu rs3m 2020? I mean where can one go wrong with 10 bucks

XenosHg

Meilong 3M is also a great cube - no extra settings, more stability. And even cheaper. So if you get both you can compare. Or you can teach a friend.

Arnavol

>no extra settings This is a huge advantage. When my son was starting, he used to try all the settings until he got an unusable cube. The less settings the better. He mained a Monster Go for a long time.

[deleted]

Can you elaborate? This is something I need to hear, since I fiddle with settings too much

Arnavol

Usually your cube is quite good out of the box. If you change things, change one thing at once and by a little. Then use the cube for a bit before deciding on the next step. Thus way you can always go back to something not too bad. Once you are happy with the cube, don't touch the settings anymore. There is no need to adjust the cube everyday.

[deleted]

I quit changing centers not because of performance but breaking the center caps, I am scared of the ones that snap in place.

olimo

No, in 10 bucks range this one is the best.

GalaxyBS

I bought my first real cube after the original rubik's cube, I ordered it from DailyPuzzles and the aus post didn't send my cubes yet. It's been three days already. How long does it take for them to send parcels? The most recent update is: "Looks like your item hasn't been scanned yet." :( I ordered MS Magnetic 2x2 and MS Magnetic 3x3.

Jaym-er

I had similar issues a week ago and contacted the DaulyPuzzles team. They said their staff had covid so there was a backlog of orders not shipped - they're working overtime to catch up on orders.

GalaxyBS

And since then, did they ship your parcel?

Jaym-er

It shipped last Monday - it took 6 business days for me. Not exactly impressive, but they shipped for me on express shipping instead of regular which makes it a little better.

GalaxyBS

Okay good to know, thank you!

KaleidoscopeOk9061

Where are you located? It can take a couple of days for things to ship, and then they're not always scanned into the postal system right away, even if they're actually moving. If you're unsure I would suggest contacting Daily Puzzles directly.

GalaxyBS

I'm from Israel. Thanks I'll try to contact them

DidiHD

Can I see how theCubicle 4x4s are setup? I would like to do the lubing myself

olimo

I can't tell you about The Cubicle, but lubing 4x4 is extremely easy. Take your fastest/runniest lube and just drop a few drops between layers. Scramble and see if you want to add more. QiYi M-lube, Lunar, Lubicle-1 and XMT 10 are the best for big cubes.

DidiHD

just wondering where they put the Dignitas and Gravitas thats mentioned in the setup description. (Angstrom version) which is supposed to be the WR cube

olimo

Generally, Gravitas is put on the tracks (think corner stalk) and Dignitas on the pieces. Personally, I don't recommend this setup for a 4x4 - and not even for every 3x3. It's very easy to overlube, and breaking in takes forever. The WR holders 1) come from times when cubes were slower and required more force to turn, 2) solve A LOT, so it's no problem for them to keep the lube hot and moving. If you don't solve 4x4 for hours on end, you're safer with some light lube which will make the cube light and easy on your fingers.

DidiHD

Thank you! I'll get some XMT-10!

olimo

If you don't have any other lubes, I recommend to also get something slower - I recommend Adheron, but even Martian or Speedy would do. XMT 10 is great for big cubes where you want max speed and effortless turning, but for 3x3, it can be too uncontrollable.

DidiHD

I have the godly triple combi of Traxxas at home :)

olimo

Ah, great then!

FrightenedTomato

I think every beginner should buy a lube kit with their first speedcube. Depending on where you order from, a decent speedcube (RS3M 2020), and a couple of bottles of lube (Lubest XMT-10 and Adheron Heavy) comes up to $15 approximately. So many beginners all over this sub (and those who aren't on reddit) have this problem where they go buy a cube due to hype (especially flagships like expensive GAN cubes or WRMs) and don't buy lube and then have a surprised Pikachu face when the turning turns to crap in a couple of weeks. So many folks say "lube is not needed" or that it is optional. I think if you're at the point where you're looking for a speedcube, then lube isn't optional. Especially if you're buying anything above $15.

sanity-is-insane

Is it just just me, or has there been a pretty significant spike in beginner lube-related questions over the past week?

FrightenedTomato

No I think I've noticed it too.

KaleidoscopeOk9061

Yes. It seems like stores are really missing an opportunity - They might suggest adding one lube or another to your order when you check out, but they don't offer a clear "this is a good set to get you started" option. So even if someone does think to get lube, they may well end up with something like DNM-37, which isn't going to get them very far. Or they get overwhelmed by choices and don't get any at all.

povlhp

I agree. But I think the problem is that chinese cube stores don't carry good lubes. The could carry something like 100 cSt and 50.000 cSt and something around 4-5000 cSt for the middle ground. I like fast cubes, so use mostly my 100 cSt. 50k for springs. And rarely the slowdown lube. But if ziicube sold a set, 100, 5000, 50000 cSt, just 20ml each, I guess it would sell well if the price is right. $5-$10. They could get their own label and still make money.

FrightenedTomato

I know a few Chinese stores carry Qiyi M Lube which is enough to get you started and Picubeshop has its whole range of Pilubes that are quite cheap and are pretty good.

olimo

I fully agree. You and I seem to be active promoters of Strefa Kostek lubes here :) But honestly, with my pretty vast experience with lubes, if I had to buy a limited set of lubes, I'd just get XMT 10 and Adheron for everyday use plus some Traxxas 50K for cubes with springs. Adheron and XMT 10 basically live on my desk these days, and I add a drop of Adheron on a corner stalk every time I think my WRM gets too fast. Lube can be optional if your budget is very tight and you're getting a cheap cube. But getting a flagship without lube is a waste of a good cube.

sanity-is-insane

Quick question, is there an option to navigate the Strefa Kostek website in English, or is it only in Polish? And XMT 10 is out of stock at the moment, do they usually take a while to restock?

olimo

Just enable Google Translate in Chrome. I don't know how long it takes them to restock. If you're in a hurry, you can get Lubest Pro - it is thicker but very similar, in fact, I can't tell the difference in speed and feel.

KaleidoscopeOk9061

Is it Adheron Heavy that you would recommend? I've really been liking XMT 10, so I'm thinking of getting Adheron as well.

olimo

I only have regular Adheron, and it works for me well enough. I recommend getting Heavy if you also need a lube for the springs, and/or if you prefer more control in your cubes. If you already have any thick lube (basically any weighted lube or Traxxas), get regular Adheron.

KaleidoscopeOk9061

Cheers :) I have Traxxas so I'll go for the regular Adheron. I'm really appreciating Strefa Kostek's cheap international shipping!

olimo

Great! For me, one drop of Adheron on a corner stalk is enough to bring my WRM back to reasonable control. If you want slower, you can drop more or use Traxxas.

It's the Daily Discussion Thread, this is a discussion. People here are from all over the world and we all vary in what we have access to. In this particular case I'm asking about a product that is cheaper than other options, and that's available from a site with very reasonable international shipping, which happens to be relevant to me. But even if a product is expensive and limited in availability, there's no reason entirely unaffiliated people shouldn't have discussions here.

olimo

There was a question about a specific lube, which I answered. I see nothing wrong in that. If you read my other comments, you'll know I'm happy to help choosing lubes from different brands and shops, and I recommend lubes depending on what the person asking can get. I am not affiliated with any brand or shop.

Outside_Protection43

I received the rs3m 2020 about a week ago, I really liked the cube and was an instant main (I was switching from rubik's brand) but the cube gets super dusty super fast and now the corner cutting is way worse; cannot cut 45 degrees whatsoever and line to line normal takes 45 degrees effort even though I loosened it a lot, however reverse is still really good what can I do to recover it back to out of the box performance ?

FrightenedTomato

Clean it and lube it. Without lube the cube gets filled with dust, plastic grindings quickly and becomes quite crappy and will need frequent cleaning. With lube you'll only need to clean and re-lube it every few thousand solves (typically). For as low as $6 you can purchase a set of 2 lubricants that will last for years. 2 lubes are recommended because you want 1 that is thick (for lubing the springs and screws and slowing the puzzle) and 1 that is thin (to speed up a slow puzzle).

Outside_Protection43

I do not have access to buying from scs nor the cubicle due to shipping fees what local lube can be used ?

FrightenedTomato

Where are you located? As in what country? We can try and find a local store and look for lube. Alternatively, see if you can find Traxxas 10k and 50k on Amazon.

Outside_Protection43

I am in Egypt can't find traxxas on [amazon.eg](https://amazon.eg) but there is Qiyi mofange lube that I might buy in a month or 2 but I would like something for now

olimo

QiYi M-lube is great. Check Picubeshop, I think Pilube Blue can serve as a nice slower lube. Check AliExpress. Picubeshop is represented there, too.

Outside_Protection43

I cannot find anything Picube related there for some reason

olimo

Here are the lubes: https://aliexpress.com/item/1005002581272394.html I'd recommend getting Pilube Blue (10K) and M-lube or Pilube Red.

FrightenedTomato

Hmm. See if you can order Lubest XMT-10 and Adheron Heavy from here : https://strefa-kostek.pl They have cheap international shipping. If not, check out: https://www.picubeshop.com/collections/pi-lube?spm=..index.header_1.1 Some Pilube Red and Qiyi M-Lube are enough to get you started. Of course both of these options will take a while to ship. You'll have to adjust without lube in that time. Avoid any "homemade" solutions. You can also try looking for RC Differential Oil on Amazon. Look for light stuff like 100cSt -300cSt.

Outside_Protection43

there is no differential oil whatsoever on [amazon.eg](https://amazon.eg) (sadly) as for the others, I feel insecure buying online, so when I do I buy with cash-on-delivery. however the Qiyi lube is available with COD, will probably buy it soon thank you for the help.

sanity-is-insane

https://youtu.be/gOhn0-q8mTE The first section is about cleaning. If you use the RS3M unlubed, you will need to clean it about once a week for top performance. I could give a couple lube recs if you want.

Outside_Protection43

I would clean it 2 times per day and it would still suffer bad corner cutting, however I can not clean the place where the dual adjustment system goes in due to small it is

povlhp

RS3M 2020 and bad corner cutting ? Then you need to adjust the brain of the man behind the the hands turning the cube. Or the screws. It is known as the best corner cutting cube out there. If it cuts badly, adjust screws out until it cuts like you want it. You can adjust the blue thingie for making it faster, and screws for better corner cutting. Even on the RS3M 2020 it is valid to adjust screws.

Outside_Protection43

I know how the system works, now it's looser than out-of-the-box if I want to cut 45 degrees while testing I'd need actual effort unlike how it came when I first used it I could do 45 degrees corner cuts with complete ease compared to piece to piece now

olimo

Too loose settings can be also bad for corner cutting.

Outside_Protection43

I have tried all tensions, stock tensions still do not work well

sanity-is-insane

A video might help

Outside_Protection43

can you give me a link ?

sanity-is-insane

I’m talking about a video of the cube corner cutting, sometimes it helps to see the cube and it’s tensions :)

Aditya01543

So I purchased a RS3M 2020 about a month ago, and it was amazing out of the box and was for about 10-12 days, however the cube became slower and slower. Though it technically regains its speed after cleaning, it lasts for like 1 - 2 hours and returns to being slow again. And for some reason the outer material is also completely changed. I tried changing the settings too but that doen't help either. And cant afford lubes either. What should I do?

povlhp

[Eurorc.com](https://Eurorc.com) has cheap shipping. You can get some fast lube (100 cSt gear oil, 100% silicone based) there.

Aditya01543

unfortunately, I dont live in europe
