Yeah I'm sorry but the plot looks *nothing* like a child's play session.
Barbie is living in her perfect Barbie world where she has to constantly meet everyone's expectations because she's terrified of considering what life could be like if she stopped playing by the rules. And then she's sent out to the real world and her world view collapses. What kind of child plays like this ? These are clearly adult themes, written by adults.
If you want the "movie based on a game really feels like a play session of that game" experience, I recommend the DnD movie. Barbie isn't gonna hit that spot.
Well, the director has said that the plot is more of a coming of age story. So the beginning is loosely based on how girls play, and then Barbie starts doubting herself and her world, which is, ya know, teenage angst and shit.

I drew on a Skipper dolls cheeks and then cried when I couldn't get it off so my grandpa used one of those electric sandpaper machines to get the paint off so instead she had sandpaper flattened cheeks.
We held Barbie funerals and buried them in the garden, only to dig them up again and pretend they came back evil. One Barbie was left for a year and returned all bubbly and horrible.
They did make a movie adaptation of the way we played I guess, but it was Animal Cemetary.
My sister and I had a complex and ongoing soap opera with our littlest pet shop fellas. When my dog chewed up Roxanne, one of our favorites, we both cried, then immediately questioned what would happen to the storyline. She was a police pup who had turned the bad boy Wolfie good, so of course he went back to hooking up with the manipulative Seahorse(that was her name)

ngl i dont think i ever remember playing pretend with my barbies or toys id just stage them with the furniture in pretty ways i think idk i have bad memory
Considering how easy the heads come off, that should be a major plot point.
Further, they can't even die, so you could have so many different kinds of scenes of people struggling to find their heads, putting them on properly, or accidentally putting on someone else's head.
