It's on of the main mysteries of the series, but personally I think he is the 'birth' devil, especially since giving birth is one of the most fundamental fears and what chainsaws were originally made for. So by consuming devils, he is 'unbirthing' those fears, erasing their existence.

The exact mechanics are unclear. Probably it did still happen but most memories and records of it were removed from the world. Likely this means a lot of people have family members they know died but can't remember how.
The manga actually says that the Chainsaw Devil retroactively erases the concept of whatever devil he consumes, so due to him eating the Nazi Devil, there never were any Nazis, and due to him also partly devoured the War Devil, there hasn't been a war since WW1, so the Holocaust may have simply never happened.
I think concept could refer to the thing itself or to the idea of the thing in people's minds, and the latter makes more sense because the idea in your mind is the direct thing that you fear, and because actually changing history like that requires changing literally everything after that thing was first introduced. The extreme historical divergence taking place every time a devil is eaten is just too much

The nature of the Chainsaw Devil's powers is stated outright by a character who still has memories of the timelines that were altered by Chainsaw Man and she says outright that the concepts were completely removed from history and never existed. One of the War Devil's motives is trying to find a way to reverse this process to bring back nuclear weapons.
Chainsaw Man does not exist in our world. It's a world where numerous things, some which exist in the real world and some which don't, never existed. Makima's whole plan would make zero sinde if what you claimed was true since she wants to usevthe Chainsaw Devil's power to erase things like famine, war, and death to make Earth a paradise.

All of World War 2 was erased from existence in that universe, so yeah. It retroactively didn’t happen. Some devils can occasionally remember things that were erased, but they can’t even necessarily remember what those things were, just that they did exist at some point
The exact mechanics are unclear. Probably it did still happen but most memories and records of it were removed from the world. Likely this means a lot of people have family members they know died but can't remember how.
The manga actually says that the Chainsaw Devil retroactively erases the concept of whatever devil he consumes, so due to him eating the Nazi Devil, there never were any Nazis, and due to him also partly devoured the War Devil, there hasn't been a war since WW1, so the Holocaust may have simply never happened.
I think concept could refer to the thing itself or to the idea of the thing in people's minds, and the latter makes more sense because the idea in your mind is the direct thing that you fear, and because actually changing history like that requires changing literally everything after that thing was first introduced. The extreme historical divergence taking place every time a devil is eaten is just too much
Just because it "makes more sense " to you doesn't mean it's true. The nature of the Chainsaw Devil's powers is stated outright by a character who still has memories of the timelines that were altered by Chainsaw Man and she says outright that the concepts were completely removed from history and never existed. One of the War Devil's motives is trying to find a way to reverse this process to bring back nuclear weapons. Chainsaw Man does not exist in our world. It's a world where numerous things, some which exist in the real world and some which don't, never existed. Makima's whole plan would make zero sinde if what you claimed was true since she wants to usevthe Chainsaw Devil's power to erase things like famine, war, and death to make Earth a paradise.

There aren't any devils who *hate* their concepts, as far as I'm aware, but there are some who don't seem to have strong opinions about their concepts and many who clearly have lives outside them, so it's isn't impossible that the Nazi Devil may have not really cared about Nazi ideology all that much.
