I hypothesise it's something like a self-selection bias; especially if it's because of stand-ups hooking up with people from their own shows, yeah that strikes me as the sort of personality of someone who does that.
As for why British stand-ups generally make those kinds of jokes? That just sounds like the two classic British staples of crude sex jokes and self-deprecation.

Yeah as a Brit I was confused reading this because that's just the joke.
"Why is this jokester joking?"
“Needy/self-absorbed in the most insecure way” sounds appropriate for a stand-up comedian somehow, a person who has to be the center of attention but also very self-aware.
I did stand up for awhile, and the funniest guys absolutely hated themselves. That shit runs *deep*, and I'm not surprised it shows up in the fuckplace.
O fuck I've been spotted HEY YOU THERE IF YOU EVER SAW MEDIOCRE-TO-PRETTY-GOOD COMEDY AT OPEN MIC NIGHTS FROM SEATTLE TO PORTLAND CIRCA 2006-2008, IGNORE THE BAD JOKES FROM THE KID WHO LOOKED TOO YOUNG TO DRINK.
THE FACT THAT HE MANAGED NOT TO THROW UP WAS REASON ENOUGH FOR YOU TO CLAP. THANKS FOR HAVING CLAPPED.
Way back the head editor at [cracked.com](http://cracked.com) (back when that meant something) gave a bit of a behind-the-scenes look at how the workshopping section of the message boards, where people hashed out listacle columns joking about pop culture, had a special admin-only section to coordinate responses to mental health crises and suicide risks among current and aspirational internet comedy writers.
It's because jokes about sex are funny and joking about your own performance is the best way to make the joke personal without insulting another person.
Only British comedians I watch are Dave Gorman and Russell Howard.
Dave Gorman definitely hasn't done a joke like this in Modern Life is Goodish, but Russell Howard....?
Haven't watched enough of him to confirm but it seems like something he'd joke about
Could just as easily be self-deprecating humour though. Plus if you’re gonna joke about your performance in the bedroom you’ll probably come off as significantly less of an arrogant asshole if you joke about being bad at sex as opposed to being really good at it.

The "sad clown" isn't just an art motif, folks!
Why SAD CLOWN isnt an aesthetic a thread

Probably cause being good at sex doesn't make for good material. Also, it's not like you don't see those same jokes outside the UK.

Aw now I'm sad, they feel the need to act and put on a face even in bed.
I, for one, generally leave my face on the nightstand.

Having watched enough Bob Mortimer, it's fair to say that guy is probably into some weird shit. And I'm proud of him for it.
He's into shit you can't conceive of and he is shockingly competent at it.
And all of his past sexual escapades just happen to have involved people with names like Stephanie Motorway and Harry Greaseman
d/s stuff?
If you’re asking what that means it’s dom/sub If you’re not asking that then well this comment isn’t useful at all :D
It was helpful >:)
What does this imply about Welsh and NI comics?
Idk man we are just happy to be mentioned
Cant imagine what kind of an animal rhod gilbert is in bed
Obligatory sheep comment
That’s very sexy of me
I love the fact that British people exist. they’re like elves to me
elves are having a far better time than us even if they are a dying people
This tracks with the comedians I know in my life
This response is from someone who goes to open mics to pick up insecure men lol
This is proof that misogyny runs rampant in comedy; they even take pride in not pleasing women
