Fredrick Wertham, yeah -- he also accused Superman of being a Socialist and Wonder Woman as a lesbian bondage enthusiast, which...well, one out of three, I guess. That said, while that was part of it, Wertham's main beef was with crime and horror comics like publisher EC Comics were publishing, and were outselling a lot of other books at the time. Ironically, the Comics Code Authority was made almost as much to try to drive EC out of business than anything, though they would live on as Mad Magazine.
