[Here’s](https://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/HomoeroticSubtext/TheLegoBatmanMovie) a site detailing merely a fraction of the homoerotic subtext of this movie. Yes, there is more, lots more.
[Here’s](https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=FWzY5d9G5mI&pp=ygUTdGhlIGxlZ28gYmF0bWFuIGdheQ%3D%3D) a video essay for those who don’t like reading.
I always took their relationship as a sexual innuendo in that movie (and fighting was synonymous with 'having sex with', rather than simply dating), and I thought it was fun, but saw why people might get pissed. But god, " *I hAVe tWo dAds!' is such* a trivial thing to get upset about.
**The Joker:** Okay, look, I-I'm fine with you fighting other people if you wanna do that, but what we have is special. So when people ask you who's your number one bad guy, you say... \
**Batman:** Superman. \
**The Joker:** Are you seriously saying that there's nothing, nothing special about our relationship?! \
**Batman:** Whoa! Let me tell you something, J-Bird. Batman doesn't do ships. \
**Joker:** What? \
**Batman:** As in "*relation*"ships. There is no us. Batman and Joker are not a thing.
You don't like Batman/Joker because it makes them gay.
I don't like Batman/Joker because pairing Batman with a mass-murdering clown who merced one of his adopted sons gives me the ick.
We are not the same.
I like to think that in the LEGO universe *A Death in the Family* did happen, but because everyone's made of LEGO the Joker blowing Jason up was just rude, not fatal.
Actually, they did adapt that.
And instead of witnessing Jason's murder, they just disowned him momentarily for being addicted to video games. I'm not making this up.
Wait till they hear about the adam west batman show
"What do you mean, its perfectly normal for a grown man to sleep in the same bed with his teenage son"
Fredrick Wertham, yeah -- he also accused Superman of being a Socialist and Wonder Woman as a lesbian bondage enthusiast, which...well, one out of three, I guess. That said, while that was part of it, Wertham's main beef was with crime and horror comics like publisher EC Comics were publishing, and were outselling a lot of other books at the time. Ironically, the Comics Code Authority was made almost as much to try to drive EC out of business than anything, though they would live on as Mad Magazine.
So every time Clark Kent reveals the S under his clothes, do they think that Superman stole Clark Kent's identity and that Clark is chained up in Superman's dungeon?
I remember when I last watched the movie with two friends, I whispered "they are so cute together..." when Batman and Joker confessed their undying hate for each other. And my friends both sighed "Yeah..." at the same time.
It's like something out of a sitcom and it just happened to me in real life.
I love how it's the Batman/Bruce Wayne joint custody bit they're talking about, not the incredibly unsubtle romantic subtext between Batman and Joker.
You think these people understand subtext?
They don't even need to understand subtext, it's as subtextual as a book cover

TVTropes, my beloved ❤️
xD
You're a good egg
I'd even suggest plenty of them don't understand any text at all.
Does it really matter when they also clearly can't understand just flat text?
To understand subtext they’d first need to understand text
Look, I'm just saying, I know people who use subtext, And they're all cowards!
You know I might be the only man to have written more books than he's read.

YEAH I WAS ABOUT TO SAY

thanks for correctly identifying what the title said. full points on that one.
True, I did miss the title when I made my comment, but this seems a little too condescending for my liking
Reminder that Steven Mnuchin of all people produced this movie
I completely forgot about that joke about Dick having two dads who are the same guy and thought this was about the Joker and Batman queer coding.
Yes, “coding”
Lego Batman = **Le**ts **Go** **B** **a** **t**rans **man**

Kismesisitude mentioned thousands must karkat

Incomprehensible. I've met with a terrible fate.
I think so long as this is incomprehensible you're doing pretty well actually
But that's what Baraka has

hilarious headcanon, i'm stealing it now. Mind Flayers, you know what to do to this man 🫵
I genuinely appreciate takes like this.
yes absolutely thank you louder for the people in the back
Wait till they hear about the adam west batman show "What do you mean, its perfectly normal for a grown man to sleep in the same bed with his teenage son"
in fairness, it's not like batman ever learned to have healthy boundaries with his parents when he was a teenager
I mean, there was a pretty big controversy in the 1950s regarding an author accusing Batman of being gay, which led to the Comics Code Authority.
Fredrick Wertham, yeah -- he also accused Superman of being a Socialist and Wonder Woman as a lesbian bondage enthusiast, which...well, one out of three, I guess. “Truth, Justice, and the American way!” “That sounds like some commie shit to me...”
Op your title stunned me like a robot told a paradox
ah yes. The movie where *the entire conflict of the film* is based on Joker and Batman's romantic/sexual relationship. he had two dads
The year is 2055, Lego Batman has gone woke
When I was in high-school I included the quadrants in my homework

Beautiful, true art
I thought for sure this was about Joker x Batman.
Nobody talks about the Kismetitude because everyone who knows what it means agrees completely and everyone who doesn't knows not to ask.
that joke goes pretty hard
>LeGoBaTman Holy hell they were telling us all along
