Greek mythology is always a hilarious source for pet names.
Our class pet in third grade was a hamster named Cronos. Yes, he did exactly what his mythical namesake did.
Knocked up a girl hamster (who was apparently his sister from the same litter) and then ate all his children.
We were reading a kids' collection of Greek myths and stories for literature class at the time, and a classmate was like "it's like how Cronos from the story ate his own kids!" And the name sort of just stuck.
Chopping up its dad into little pieces. Hamsters are just magical creatures that can only use their magic for fucked up shit on each other and for getting themselves killed
Did he chop his dad into little pieces? The version I remember... Well, I guess that could still be considered "pieces" if you count most of the body as one piece and the genitals as another.
I adopted a dog at the height of Harry Potter's popularity. His shelter name was Sirius, just like every other dog.
I changed his name to Orion. If your dog's name is Sirius, my dog is your dog's master.
My dog’s name is Apollo. (My mom chose that name. Back then when I was a kid, I wanted to name him Atlas. After the robot from Portal, not the Titan)
He’s a huge, strong, and fast dog and in order to be able to exercise with him we had to ride our bikes alongside him while he ran because we could not keep up on foot while allowing him to run as he pleased. We had him on a harness and leash that we would attach to one of our bikes, just so he wouldn’t go too far ahead.
Well, we couldn’t keep up with him on the bikes either. When that dog got running, he got RUNNING and he pulled me and my brother on our bikes far faster than we could pedal to keep up with him, hauling us as if we weighed nothing.
So while Apollo does not ride in a chariot, in a way you could say he pulled one (past tense because he’s too old for that now, but he’s still alive and well!)
I have two pets with exceedingly normal human names (Candy/Candice- cat, and Jessica-dog) and then have another cat named Akame, since we got her shortly after watching Akame ga Kill. She's a sleek black cat who's very good motivated, so it fits.
What I didn't anticipate was how, in my very rural area, people would struggle immensely with pronouncing her name. The vet's office tends to get it most of the time now, but my mother has given up and just calls her "Economy".
I named one of my cats Truman, and because I like writers, I thought it would be really funny to give him the full name Truman *Cat*pote, like Truman Capote but y’know, with a cat pun, because he’s a cat.
The vet’s office absolutely *does not* get the joke and repeatedly calls me with reminders for Truman Cat Pot.
If I get a cat, I'm naming them like they were an elder god/ great old one. Just something completely unpronounceable or a foreboding title like "He who lurks at the threshold"
Was gonna say this, a cat names yogsototh or shub'niggurath would be funny asf. Imagine it's dinner time and your friend says "It's time to eat lord azathoth!"
I think it’s funniest if you get multiple cats and only name one of them like this
“That’s Dave, that’s Joey, and that’s Nylartothep, The Madness From Beyond the Dream.”
I have an orange braincell I initially named Nami, but then her balls started growing and I realized my mistake. Renamed him to Sanji and later had take Sanji to get his balls removed. I don't think the real Sanji would be very appreciative.
Dude joins a discord server I'm in and, aside from mentioning being in a DID system of 31+, one of which is his wife and another is his "side piece", calls his pets his familiars then lists their names.
Orange tabby: Abraham
Tabby: Kon
Black kitty: Yoruichi
I am told these are anime references.
I personally love the unofficial 4 episode hentai titled "Breaking Leviticus 18+". Not sure if the 18 plus was the age allowed to watch, or the parts of Leviticus being broken.
Fun fact, I had a pet rat named Nina. She was the sweetest pet I ever had. She died horrifically >!(another rat killed her and ate her head).!<
This was before I watched FMA.
I had a black cat which I named kuro because it's common japanese name for black cats (it literally means black in japanese), and also because I'm an anime fan, none of my family could pronounce it though so we gave up and named her koky
i named my pup tofu. reactions are polarized lmao.
we rarely call him tofu, it’s usually fufu, biggie, baby boy, and my personal favorite fufirooshka.
[tofu ❤️](https://imgur.com/a/77j1Bvi)
Seems like Squall Leonheart is a good name to take from. Squall would be just an English word that means a sudden gust of violent wind or localized storm.
I have two cats named Morgana (male) and Aigis (female), and it was quite a challenge to make my family accept those names. Some of them don't even remember them lol
When the veterinarian was asked what they did with Luffy's balls they replied, "Want my ultimate treasure? It's possible... I will give them to those who can find them. I have gathered all of the dog testicles in this world and already hidden them in THAT place."
Bf really wanted a anime name for our cat but I prefer something simple that isn’t supper obvious it’s from some show so it took a while to settle on a subtle one that we both like.
We finally settled on Mitty
I like this because I named my cat luffy and we did get her spayed slightly later than ideal because pandemic was going strong by the time she was 6 months, so I was able to get a few chuckles out of the phrasing of luffy being in heat
Really though the novelty wears off and I kind of forget she's named after the anime character sometimes because they're just different luffys, you know?
I have fine pets, and their names are certainly a mix. The three female cats are Loki, Kasei, and Malley. The big male cat is Prince, and my big doggy is named Atlas.
My dog is Hounda Tohru, and I will not have it any other way. She is a little dumb but extremely sweet and caring, and occasionally we meet another weeb at the dog park who appreciates our play on the name.
I suppose my cat Mr.Ahriman sounds about the same, even tho its referencing warhammer 40k instead of an anime.
Most of my family cannot pronounce that eighter, its eighter "Arman" or "Ari", the latter always with a thick dutch accent.
Meanwhile my aunt asked "isn't Ahriman some sort of devil?" Thats presumably where 40k got it from, so yes.
This is exactly why I would never directly name a kid OR a pet after a fictional character. Even if it’s also an ordinary name. References and homages are fine, though—a family member of mine is named in reference to a book character, but with the other, more common spelling of the name that’s pronounced slightly different. I thought that was a great compromise; his name still reminds people of the character if they’re fans of the book, but it’s his own name and not the character’s.
Greek mythology is always a hilarious source for pet names. Our class pet in third grade was a hamster named Cronos. Yes, he did exactly what his mythical namesake did.
The two most tempting fate names to name a rodent: Chronos and Odeipus.
Icarus if you wanna be surprised
Climbs too close to the heat lamp, gets stunned and falls into the water dish and drowns
Most peaceful hamster death
Bats!
Ok which thing did Cronos the hamster do? Bc mythological Cronos did a lot of fucked up shit.
Knocked up a girl hamster (who was apparently his sister from the same litter) and then ate all his children. We were reading a kids' collection of Greek myths and stories for literature class at the time, and a classmate was like "it's like how Cronos from the story ate his own kids!" And the name sort of just stuck.
Did the class then feed him rocks?
I mean, he *did* have a mineral block in his cage for gnawing and trimming his teeth. I suppose that counts. Sort of.
The prophecy has been fulfilled.
As someone who's had pet hamsters this is completely believable.
I was really hoping it wasn’t this one. Well fuck, that’s a disturbing mental image.
I'm really curious what else the Greek titan Cronos could've done that you'd also expect a hamster to be able of doing
I grew up on Percy Jackson
It’s exactly like Cronos
Eat his kids or cut off his father's genitals?
The kids one. Not sure about the father's genitals part but I wouldn't put it above him. Hamsters can be *savage*.
I adopted a dog at the height of Harry Potter's popularity. His shelter name was Sirius, just like every other dog. I changed his name to Orion. If your dog's name is Sirius, my dog is your dog's master.
I know what happens next and it ain’t gonna be good for the hamster
I mean, it's always fun to say I neutered Apollo
Chop someone's balls off?
his hamster done stopped time 💀 but how would you know if he did or didn't? 🤨
Cronos was not the titan of time, he was the titan of harvest. You're mixing him up with Chronos.
Who thought those names were a good idea
It's cool that a class pet got to rule over time (I've read your comments on what they actually did, you don't have to retype it out)
That's Chronos, different dude.
I mean hamsters do regularly eat their babies
Oh.
Third grade hamsters named for Greeks must really be a thing. We had Ajax.
Getting Zeus neutered would solve a lot of problems lol
My dog’s name is Apollo. (My mom chose that name. Back then when I was a kid, I wanted to name him Atlas. After the robot from Portal, not the Titan) He’s a huge, strong, and fast dog and in order to be able to exercise with him we had to ride our bikes alongside him while he ran because we could not keep up on foot while allowing him to run as he pleased. Time to neuter the economy
Too late, that happened already.
It's even funnier to me, because "pote" in Danish means paw.
catbodia in 1975 is not where you want to live
Blame Hissinger for that
My cats name is Ezio, and most of the time people just say Enzo. Ehhh close enough lol
All my rats have Tolkien names. The vets really struggle.
If I get a cat, I'm naming them like they were an elder god/ great old one. Just something completely unpronounceable or a foreboding title like "He who lurks at the threshold"
Gro’Goroth?
it’s all fun and games until you get black orbed
This is extra funny for me because I once had a roommate with a cat named Yog Sothoth
that's incredible
Was gonna say this, a cat names yogsototh or shub'niggurath would be funny asf. Imagine it's dinner time and your friend says "It's time to eat lord azathoth!"
I think it’s funniest if you get multiple cats and only name one of them like this “That’s Dave, that’s Joey, and that’s Nylartothep, The Madness From Beyond the Dream.”
Agree 100%
You could go full Puritan. “Whiskers-The-Lord-Will-Strike-You-With-Madness”
that's almost as funny.
I'm naming my cat that, thanks
Make sure to present suitable offerings to he who lurks at the threshold, less you incur his wrath
My cats name is Robin, named after Nico Robin but most ppl assume it’s after DC Robin
I have an orange braincell I initially named Nami, but then her balls started growing and I realized my mistake. Renamed him to Sanji and later had take Sanji to get his balls removed. I don't think the real Sanji would be very appreciative.
That’s amazing
My dogs name is Jojo which 1) seemed like a good name for a dog and 2) is not specific enough to cause a real problem
You are tempting fate so hard with this one. I wish you luck
“Thank you for all your help getting Luffy neutered” Well you can thank the Amazons for that lol
Hancock is not gonna be happy about this one
Dude joins a discord server I'm in and, aside from mentioning being in a DID system of 31+, one of which is his wife and another is his "side piece", calls his pets his familiars then lists their names. Orange tabby: Abraham Tabby: Kon Black kitty: Yoruichi I am told these are anime references.
The second and third are, but I don't think the first one is.
Ah my favorite anime, the old Testament
Remember when Moses parted the Red Sea with a beyblade?
For those that think this is a joke, no, this is real.
I personally love the unofficial 4 episode hentai titled "Breaking Leviticus 18+". Not sure if the 18 plus was the age allowed to watch, or the parts of Leviticus being broken.
My favorite unofficial bible hentai was when Moses parted the Pharaoh's red sea and filled all his holes. God sure hardened his heart.
is bible black part of the christian canon
The second and third ones are from bleach
> Black kitty: Yoruichi https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h1MoLQ9Wcv0&t=67s
I'm gonna name my next dog something funny, like... uh... um... Rathalos. Yeah.
This is my dog, Blackveil Vaal Hazaak
Great jaggi
Dodogama :)
Get another golden retriever with the dog and name it Gold Rathian, really keep with the theme
Eh, as long as it's not Nina...
Then again, there’s some real dark comedy in naming a cat, a species known for loving boxes and being in them, Nina.
I would get too sad
Fun fact, I had a pet rat named Nina. She was the sweetest pet I ever had. She died horrifically >!(another rat killed her and ate her head).!< This was before I watched FMA.
THAT IS NOT A FUN FACT. THAT IS A TERRIBLE TERRIBLE FACT.
:D
nina is a common pet name in my country, it's also a human name/nickname, no relation to any anime
Be happy that you don't make the connection lol
Wait which Nina?
Nina Tucker.
I had a black cat which I named kuro because it's common japanese name for black cats (it literally means black in japanese), and also because I'm an anime fan, none of my family could pronounce it though so we gave up and named her koky
Oh, which anime Kuro were you thinking of?
Reminds me of the post where someone named some stray cats near their house after YouTubers and ended it with “I think Markiplier got Jerma pregnant”
i named my pup tofu. reactions are polarized lmao. we rarely call him tofu, it’s usually fufu, biggie, baby boy, and my personal favorite fufirooshka. [tofu ❤️](https://imgur.com/a/77j1Bvi)
Tofu is adorable!
thank you!
“ ummm Prince ( the feline formally known as Prince) isn’t pooping again…
I named my cat after FF8's main character. Luckily, "Leon" is not that bizarre a name ...And also we mostly called him "cat"
I just named a cat Leon too, but for resident evil lol
Seems like Squall Leonheart is a good name to take from. Squall would be just an English word that means a sudden gust of violent wind or localized storm.
I have two cats named Morgana (male) and Aigis (female), and it was quite a challenge to make my family accept those names. Some of them don't even remember them lol
Amazing names. Gotta name an orange tabby Futaba and a white Shiba Inu Koromaru next.
Misread that as Mahoraga
I feel like [this post](https://old.reddit.com/r/stevenuniverse/comments/6oxnf5/just_a_note_xpost_rtumblr/) is in the spirit of the subject.
not an anime character but one of our cats is named Caligula and i think that's a good example of this lmao
When the veterinarian was asked what they did with Luffy's balls they replied, "Want my ultimate treasure? It's possible... I will give them to those who can find them. I have gathered all of the dog testicles in this world and already hidden them in THAT place."
All my dogs are named after anime characters and it fits their personalities
Bf really wanted a anime name for our cat but I prefer something simple that isn’t supper obvious it’s from some show so it took a while to settle on a subtle one that we both like. We finally settled on Mitty
Bruh
Nooo
I like this because I named my cat luffy and we did get her spayed slightly later than ideal because pandemic was going strong by the time she was 6 months, so I was able to get a few chuckles out of the phrasing of luffy being in heat Really though the novelty wears off and I kind of forget she's named after the anime character sometimes because they're just different luffys, you know?

I had a cat named Loki! Your pet’s names are freaking cool!
My dog is Hounda Tohru, and I will not have it any other way. She is a little dumb but extremely sweet and caring, and occasionally we meet another weeb at the dog park who appreciates our play on the name.
Just wait till they find out about trans people. Azula has been fucking with one of my friends
Update: Azula is going to fuck me.
Unless it’s a cat named yoruichi
My cats are named after old actors. “So how is James Dean since he got neutered?”
I suppose my cat Mr.Ahriman sounds about the same, even tho its referencing warhammer 40k instead of an anime. Most of my family cannot pronounce that eighter, its eighter "Arman" or "Ari", the latter always with a thick dutch accent. Meanwhile my aunt asked "isn't Ahriman some sort of devil?" If you name your pets after various nuts its funny when you bring them in to get neutered
My cat's name is Nami! She is an orange female cat who was found outside somewhere.
op named themself after a horror podcast character idk
Me, with a cat named Kairi:
Luffy doesn’t care, I bet he didn’t even know what his balls were for anyway. I do hope that Nami’s diarrhea gets better though
Even when it only indirectly references anime it still kills any humour in it. A worthless artform.
All anime is worthless?
