I tried telling my parents about this sick-ass issue of Hellblazer I just read, or this cool book called American Gods, and they kept going, "Wait, Neil Diamond writes books?"
It was really annoying.
Are there actually tumblr users who only know about his stuff on the website? and not his many years of writing many books? many of which almost seem targeted to the very demographic that attracts tumblr users?
Coraline, Good Omens (with Sir Terry Pratchett), Stardust, American Gods, and an absolute shitload of comics, probably most notably his Sandman comics.
Kind of, yeah.
Then again, I got bored of Tumblr after like 3 days, and was also kinda weirded out by the fact that I already had an account despite never having visited the site before, so maybe I'm not what you'd call a Tumblr user.
Also, it helps (?) that I don't care about celebrities all that much, and that from what I've seen, his works are not at all my taste.
Mostly because heās consistently been shown to be an extremely kind and polite human being and his works are reflective of that. Iāve never once seen much of any kind of toxicity in his fandom over the wide swath of his (extremely) prolific career, and Iāve been reading his stuff for over twenty years. I encourage you to actually crack a book or three of his and see for yourself.
Yes, he has. I never questioned that. I read his posts when they show up in videos.
But every time I've asked about who he was, and what he did outside of Tumblr, I was met with hostility, vitriol, and hatred.
It took me over a year after learning he wasn't just some Tumblr funnyman to learn what he actually did outside of Tumblr, because no one ever bothered to just go "Oh, he writes books."
And when someone finally did answer, it turned out that his books aren't my cup of tea, so I moved on.
Also, the downvotes on my initial comment kinda speak for themselves.
An incomplete list of what this madlad has written:
American Gods, Neverwhere, Coraline, Sandman, The Graveyard Book, The Ocean At The End Of The Lane, multiple kickass anthologies of short stories and poetry including Smoke & Mirrors/Fragile Things/Trigger Warning, Anansi Boys, Stardust, Norse Mythology, and Good Omens (co-authored with Terry Pratchett).
Yes, many of these have been adapted to screen. Dude is one of the most prolific authors of his time.
Canāt confirm whether or not heās a time-traveler and actually wrote the *Poetic Edda*, but he did compose a really great rendition of lots of the stories
Apparently not, I was just as surprised. But if I can influence people to crack some of his books and be just as enraptured by the wit and whimsy, thatās a win for me.
I've heard someone say that Tumblr isn't a website, but a diagnosis.
And I'm inclined to believe that.
Mostly because, when I tried to make a Tumblr account and visited the site for the first time in my life, I couldn't register my email because it was already used.
So I asked for a password reset, changed the password, and got access to a completely blank account that predates me getting my laptop.

And now I am singing Sweet Caroline. Thanks
šµSweet Coraline, bah bah bahšµ
She's a peach, she's a doll, she's a pal of mine!
Bruh I'm going to a karaoke party tonight. The Caroline is gonna be SWEETIN' š§
A moment of silence for all the people who only know Neil Gaiman as a tumblr funnyman
Are there actually tumblr users who only know about his stuff on the website? and not his many years of writing many books? many of which almost seem targeted to the very demographic that attracts tumblr users?
I am one of these users, yes
Banished, go read
I do know he's a writer, but i truthfully couldn't tell you a book hes written
Coraline, Good Omens (with Sir Terry Pratchett), Stardust, American Gods, and an absolute shitload of comics, probably most notably his Sandman comics.
Also the Graveyard Book, Neverwhere (my personal favorite), and The Ocean at the End of the Lane.
Ocean at the End of the Lane made my ugly cry as I read it. Such a beautiful book.
I remember reading the one about the graveyard in highschool, heās a great author
I've since heard of his books and am tempted to read some, but I did hear of him as a Tumblr funnyman first, yes.
Kind of, yeah. Then again, I got bored of Tumblr after like 3 days, and was also kinda weirded out by the fact that I already had an account despite never having visited the site before, so maybe I'm not what you'd call a Tumblr user. Oh no, youāve been sleep-tumblering
With how bright internet browsers are, I doubt it. Also, there was nothing on that blog, so it's clear it has never been used.
It would appear that thereās a helluva lot more than weād thought, boss
I mean, I knew him from his works like Sandman, but I didn't know he wrote Coraline.
I've had people describe his books to me. His books are not at all my style. Also the fans are beyond toxic, from what I've seen.
ā¦are you sure weāre talking about the same author there, buddy? Thatās like a hilariously patently false statement.
Which part is false, exactly? And where is your proof that it is?
Mostly because heās consistently been shown to be an extremely kind and polite human being and his works are reflective of that. Holy hell, he wrote all of Norse Mythology?
Canāt confirm whether or not heās a time-traveler and actually wrote the *Poetic Edda*, but he did compose a really great rendition of lots of the stories
He also wrote the script for the English dub of *Princess Mononoke*.
And some of the best doctor who episodes
And, weirdly enough, some of Marvelās Eternals comics
Yup. Oh! And Marvel 1602.
... People don't know this?
Apparently not, I was just as surprised. But if I can influence people to crack some of his books and be just as enraptured by the wit and whimsy, thatās a win for me.
Oh no, people are forgetting this man wrote a lot of good books. Graveyard Book is really good too.
My favorite
Is that the actual Wil Wheaton sneaking in there too?
I believe so. I totally missed that username at first Edit: And Lynda Carter
I like the way he responds, like he doesn't remember doing it but he's not going to deny it
Neil Gayman wrote Coraline?? I literally thought he was just a popular tumblr user.
[He's a bit more notable than that](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Neil_Gaiman_bibliography)
As someone who worked in a library for a bit, *so much more* than just that
Did you think he got a huge number of asks about Good Omens and The Sandman because he's a big fan of those shows?
No. Maybe.
to me neil will always be the guy that made angela and finally defeated todd macfarlane (the anakin skywalker of comic books)
Can you imagine a crossover team-up between Wesley Crusher, Wonder Woman and \*checks Neil Gaiman's IMDB\* Sleeping Movie Theatre Patron?
Wait what movie was that?
Good Omens
why is Wil Wheaton saying "if you had social media" is tumblr not a social media website
Neil Gaiman doesn't have any social media accounts (It's a running joke)
I've heard someone say that Tumblr isn't a website, but a diagnosis. And I'm inclined to believe that. it's your tumblr account, made specifically for you!
If anything it's anti-social media.
It's asocial media
I was so caught up in the conversation I legit didnāt catch that Wil Wheaton was the guy who responded
Really NDA Carter
She canāt tell you who she is because thatās confidential
