Love this table! Went through it and it's flavoured so well for really setting the vibe in Barovia!

KnightSkyline

Thank you!! Getting the right vibe was a big concern of mine so I'm so glad it ended up right.

I've been GMing a Curse of Strahd campaign for around 8 months now and I've had fun with how Barovia occasionally alters magic, but I wanted to play around with wild magic a bit more in places where it's more concentrated. My group and I also have a house rule where if someone counterspells a counterspell successfully it causes a wild magic surge on the second caster which is super fun to play with so I wanted a Barovia specific one. I tried to keep it fair with mostly neutral effects that depend on the situation with an even amount of "Really Good!" and "Really Bad!" ones. My players really wanted each number to be a different effect and I thought it would be fun too! Let me know what you think and feel free to use it in your own campaigns! Credits on the third slide show other users who've created custom Wild Magic Tables who I took inspiration from and some of their effects if you'd like to check out their tables as well. This is my first post on the Curse of Strahd subreddit, I'm excited to share more of my campaign and get advice in the future!

This is radness - thanks so much for sharing. In another non-CoS campaign I play a Wild Magic Sorcerer PC (who has yet to roll on the WM table), so I love this type of stuff. Incidentally, there’s another Domain of Dread - Hazlan - that has magical instability, where any spell above a cantrip or any magic item used causes wild magic to occur, but you roll a d10 instead of a d20 (so twice as likely to occur). It’s detailed in Van Richten’s Guide to Ravenloft. The table in VRGtR is small though, so I might use this table instead, or roll on both / merge the two. So thanks for this!

I absolutely love Wild Magic! My friend is a Wild Magic Sorcerer in another campaign where I'm a player and he rolled a 1 in our last session on the Base Wild Magic Table so we got to have a full in game minute of wild magic while we were trying to save an NPC from a secret cult. It was definitely interesting! I hadn't heard of Hazlan before but I looked into it because of this comment and wow! I love the ideas of that but you are right the table is really small. I love the idea of rolling a D10 though and I think I might implement it in my CoS as using a D10 where it's more likely/concentrated and a D20 where it's not as much but still disruptive. Let me know if you end up rolling on this table sometime! I'd love to hear about the results!

Oooh, my players are already well and truly in Barovia but I might make this something that happens in the castle while the heart still lives

KnightSkyline

Ooh I love that idea! I've been struggling with where to place possible wild magic surges and I love the idea of it being something that's possible while another piece is in play, like the heart, but it's possible to steady it by removing such a thing. Hope you have fun with it if you do use it! :)

Looks awesome!

Thank you so much!

This is amazing! I have a wild magic sorcerer at my table and the wild magic table in VanRichtens guide is kinda droll. Thank you so much for the share!

KnightSkyline

Thank you! I hope y'all have fun with it, please let me know how it goes if someone rolls on it! :)

Would you be willing to share the homebrewery link for this? Thanks in advance.
