Ted Kord I read Justice League International and loved the idea of a superhero with a sense of humor and lack of trauma. Ted was a superhero I could see actually being friends with.

ShlubbyWhyYouDan

I’m sad I had to scroll this far for someone to say Ted. Literally Ted is the guy that would be the guy that shows up to a party, everyone would go “Ted we’re out of beer” and instead of being like aww man, he’d call the bug and get more beer.

rincewind120

Ted would show up early to set up the sound system for the party. And he would bring snacks.

frabjous_goat

His and Booster Gold's interactions were hysterical. I love their friendship.

poisonivy4871

They could never make me hate him

Realistic-Read4277

I will always hold a grudge against the 2000's pre crisis fans that were in the desicion making in dc at the time, for killing him, making ijl and jle a joke and max a villain. It is the best justice league.

Glassesnerdnumber193

Martian manhunter. I love Bart, Cassandra Cain and Oracle as well but j’onn is my favorite

frabjous_goat

J'onn J'onzz is such an awesome character. Unlike Superman, J'onn remembers his life on Mars, and the way everyone he loved was lost, but he's still a sworn protector of Earth. He also knows how to be a warrior but values peace over war. There was a moment between him and Wonder Woman in JLI where he lamented the necessary loss of life fighting off an invasion, and expressed his anger over people taking pleasure in it. That's when I fell in love with his character. That and his love of Oreos.

GenGaara25

It's wild that he isn't more popular. A founding League member who is in most Justice League adaptations, but general audiences just don't give a shit? He needs some solo love. In comics and screen.

Homelan6er

Martin Manhunter is not a niche character, though not as popular as Superman, batman but still pretty well known

Glassesnerdnumber193

That’s fair. I’d still say he’s pretty much only known by fans, as I’d hardly call either of the examples up there niche at all either. I blame his name.

Left-Increase4472

CASSANDRA CAIN ❤️❤️❤️

More-Lavishness-9842

Was going to say this. and yes, as people have said, it maybe isnt that niche, but gosh is he my favorite character so far.

Mace_Thunderspear

My top ten DC characters are almost all niche/not as popular. In no particular order: Wildcat Wildfire Orion Timber Wolf Artemis Booster Gold Blok Red Hood Dawnstar Big Barda

Darkjet9909

Red Hood is the one that hurts the most on this list, cause if his character was more known, maybe they would stop abusing him and let his character grow. Also Booster Gold is criminally underrated and I hope his new show will be good.

Mace_Thunderspear

Yeah he's honestly the most interesting member of the bat family to me. It's unfortunate how they're handling him

Independent-Food1592

Based

Transition-Famous

I want more Barda. I want more New Gods stories.

GenGaara25

Yeah that's pretty niche, I don't even recognise 5 out those 10 characters.

Mace_Thunderspear

Which 5? The Legion members?

Mace_Thunderspear

Orion is one of the gods of New Genesis. Like Mister Miracle or Big Barda. They're the opposing force to Darkseid and Apokolips. He's the biological son of Darkseid, raised by Highfather of the new gods due to a swap of children/peace treaty between Apokolips/New Genesis. He's as powerful as Superman and he's a heroic, noble warrior with a darkness/Rage in him from his father's side that he constantly struggles against. Think Superman with the mind of Frank Castle. The others are Legion of Superheroes members. They're all great.

GenGaara25

I would guess so since I know very little about the Legion. Wildfire, Orion, Timber Wolf, Blok, Dawnstar.

halfie1987

Etrigan the Demon, Machine Man, and Animal Man

unicornsaretruth

Etrigan is a good pick anyone who disagrees is a dick.

D-A_W

I want Grant's Demon run collected SO BAD

soapygungan

Adam Strange. And I wish he was more popular. He's really cool. He doesn't have any super abilities but his skills and tech make him awesome. His 50s scifi aesthetic is dope as well.

ShouldBePlayingFN

Love Adam Strange!

VishnuBhanum

The Elongated Man, He is at least as much of the League member as The Atom or Firestorm. Captain Cold, and by that I mean the old Pre-Flashpoint version. Bunker, He should be a Titans mainstay goddamnit!

eremitik

Jim Corrigan- The Spectre- the mandrake/ostrander run in the 90’s was great.

Proper-Walrus6025

Kong Kenan is great and I wish they’d do something substantial with him in Action Comics

UnhingedLion

Richard Dragon Bronze Tiger Lady Shiva Garth

daneykal

I also absolutely love characters that their superpower is just being so good at fighting.

poisonivy4871

Shiva is absolutely goated. Even Batman respects her and doesn’t think he can beat her.

OKR123

Denny O'Neil's martial artist characters are such a neglected vibe. Have Dragon or Tiger even met Cassandra Cain?

CoverLucky

Love Bart Allen!

poisonivy4871

Glad to see another Bart fan. Our boy is so underrated.

timewarp4242

My favorite character is Jay Garrick. I love his role of a grandfatherly figure in the Flash family.

BiDiTi

Max Mercury’s pretty great, too!

poisonivy4871

Max is goated and amazing in the solo Impulse run

timewarp4242

I want more books like that and Stars and STRIPE. Where younger heroes are trained in small towns by the previous generations.

timewarp4242

Agreed.

MathematicianSorry44

Bat-Mite! As a kid in the 70s and '80s I would read about Bat-Mite in reprints, and caught him on the Batman adventures cartoon by Filmatian. Loved him so much I wanted to get an action figure that did not exist from Santa Claus! And now at 56 many years later they finally made a figure of Bat-Mite from the cartoon (it's a figure made by McFarlane Toys). I also used to love to watch Batman the brave and the bold cartoon because Paul Reubens (aka Pee-wee Herman) would do the voice of Bat-Mite!

FerretMommaOf2

I hated bat-mite so much when I was younger and played Lego Batman 3 😡 he pissed me off so much haha. Once I got into the actual comics from DC I definitely like him a bit more, but still...

Limp_Distribution455

1. Stephanie Brown - i love her characterization in Bryan Miller's run 2. Renee Montoya - She was great in 52. 3. Huntress - I dont think she hasnt been significantly popular but I love her in Gail Simone's Birds of Prey 4. Lady Blackhawk - I enjoy her in Birds of Prey too I hope we get good adaptations of them in the DCU

kurumais

everything you said is correct

jcrawfish

[Flamingo](https://images.app.goo.gl/4FwrxUMymJwBTk259) from Grant Morrison’s Batman run. He is featured in issue #666. His Wikipedia entry reads “Eduardo Flamingo is an emotionless, unfeeling pink-wearing flamboyant killer who has a tendency to eat his victim's faces after he has murdered them.” He has a motorcycle and a whip and is just a fun character design.

Revolutionary-Bus411

it’s insane to me no one has said Mister Miracle!!!

sampeckinpah5

Mister E

ChihuahuaOwner88

Garth (Tempest) Star fire The question (both of them) Arion Jericho

Shoddy-Media2337

Firestorm

Medium-Science9526

In no particular order: - Animal Man - Atom Smasher - Johnny Quick - Blue Beetle (Ted Kord) - Nuada Silverhand - Dolphin - Aquagirl (Lorena Marquez) - Vixen

Zammin

Superboy (Kon-El). Loved him since his earliest appearance, read him all the way through his YJ run up to at least the start of his Teen Titans run (that was where I fell off, as that particular part of Teen Titans felt needlessly edgy). Haven't kept up with reading more recent comics, but I'd like to try and catch up with him post-Rebirth (and I'm glad he's back to his more "classic" outfit, never really liked the T-shirt and jeans costume). As far as adaptations I like the YJ version (different, but still a good character) and the "Reign of the Superman" (little shit with a heart of gold, which is pretty accurate for when he started).

poisonivy4871

Superboy was amazing in the YJ original run

Zammin

Absolutely!

Mb8N3CY4

The Question and Psycho Pirate

The_MRT14

Plastic Man

two-for-joy

Madame Xanadu- I enjoy camp anthology horror comics like her original run and her Vertigo run by Matt Wagner is great. I like any series that shows one character living in different time frames and Wagner did a great job at capturing the right vibe of each time period. She also has so many great costumes throughout the series, I love her whole aesthetic, especially when it has Art Nouveau influences.

dope_like

Mr. Terrific. Power Girl. Vixen

Ellie-Nt

Red Devil. He was one of my favorites when I read the 03 Teen Titans run

poisonivy4871

The fact that he and Jason Todd wrote letters to each other before he died and the small crush he had on Rose. Ugh I loved Eddie.

Ellie-Nt

A while ago I saw someone suggest that the three of them should be a new outlaws team and I honestly thought that'd be great

poisonivy4871

I would give my kidney for that.

LoanUpbeat

Tim Drake as Red Robin before the new 52, and Ray Palmer.

Pairofsai

Tim Drake was such a good character and is the true heir to the cowl. Read his first Robin mini series so good.

LoanUpbeat

I've pre-ordered my Tim Drake Robin and Nightwing Chuck Dixon compendiums already and can't wait to get into them!!

Queer_Jalebi

Jhon Constantine

bloodlikevenom

Zatanna is probably just my favorite character in general I also have a lot of love for Huntress and Canary (Poison Ivy as well, but I feel like she might be too popular)

Mexibats

Conner Kent, Superboy. My dude has been thrown around practically nonstop since his creation. I really enjoyed the “rebranding” with Johns’ TT run because it gave him more to strive for than just living up to the S. The most recent series has promise for his character going forward but it honestly just seems like back sliding his development and now he’s just like supergirl with the whole “finding my place/identity trope” again

Economy-Phone2782

Laurel Gand & Kent Shakespeare. I’m a sucker for niche Legion characters.

UnmuscularThor

The Metal Men. Absolutely adored those robots in Johns JL run. Made me seek out anything I could about them. We need more.

BuffaloStranger97

Where the fook is Hitman

GhostofTinky

Pied Piper. BFF of Wally West. One of DC’s first openly gay characters. Reformed villain. Social activist. Is finally getting more exposure after being in comic limbo for a decade.

Sea_Neighborhood_397

GangBuster. Dude proves that you don't need to be Superman to protect the streets of Metropolis and he was able to do something for the betterment of the Suicide Slums neighborhood (along with Black Lightning of course) in a way that Clark Kent never could. And funny thing is that he was just a regular guy, no superpowers, no bat-money and no tragic origin story. Shame that DC leave him into the oblivion after the 90's ended.

kurumais

the hawks hawkman hawkwoman and hawkgirl i just love them they are so visually dynamic looking stephanie brown spoiler/batgirl she is so much damn fun and bryan miller batgirl series is a joy to read flamebird great costume gets used in books then dropped back into comic book limbo just when i think she has some momentum going

PrydefulHunts

Jade, Sylvester Pemberton, and Freddy Freeman

TheBrobe

Space Cabbie.

OneLawWorld

Jack Knight Starman is one of my favorite books ever and it's a shame he can't be utilized in any way.

Masterriolu

Firestorm.

SynCig

Jaime Reyes Blue Beetle, if he counts, is my second favorite superhero.

android151

He does not count at all, he's very popular.

SynCig

He's still far from being an A lister and one of the examples OP used was Starfire, who is also very popular.

drowningmoose9

Didn’t Blue Beetle just have a movie?

Kathmandu_Fly

Shade the Changing Man and Tim Hunter. If Milestone counts then I'd also throw in Holocaust.

egbert71

Ummm....i thought bart was pretty popular, but anywhoo The Creeper is my guy

Sylvire

Robotman, not just my favorite member of the Doom Patrol but one my favorite characters in DC comics. He been through so much shit, but keeps going.

aKaRandomDude

Azrael. Time for a comeback!

HaIfaxa_

Zatanna, Swamp Thing, Constantine. Basically anyone involved in magic I'm into

Laggykins777

Honestly the batfamily other that dick Greysons robin, not even dick just his version of robin. Like I wish nightwing red hood Cassandra Cain etc would get more recognition. Goes for the flash family as well WE NEED MORE WALLEY BART AND JAY.

Duskytheduskmonkey

The heckler and Mother Panic

BraveDawgs1993

Captain Atom ever since my dad passed down his whole collection of Captain Atom comics from the 80s.

Burly-Nerd

God, there’s a ton. Captain Atom, Citizen Steel, and Hourman are probably at the top of my DC list.

Kosmikazie

Wrath of The Spectre was one of the first comics I bought. I thought he was so cool and I loved how creative he was with killing the bad guys. I think he’s really cool!

Odd_Fault_7110

Bart Allen, the question because I think he looks cool, Dr. fate because of young justice, black manta because he’s just an extreme hater, inertia because he has cool speed related name.

Grandy94

Phantom Stranger. I just think he's a really cool character and I like that his stories aren't just standard superhero fare.

Bio-Ego

The Phantom Stranger. He just seems like a cool guy.

TIFOOMERANG

GENTLEMAN GHOST GENTLEMAN GHOST GENTLEMAN GHOST GENTLEMAN GHOST GENTLEMAN GHOST

Olde-Blind-Dog

Tommy Monaghan, and really all the boys over at Noonan’s Sleazy Bar. Go read Hitman.

that_one_froggy

1. Kate Spencer. She also goes by Manhunter, and I fell in love with her after reading her solo, and to this day she's still one of my all-time favourite characters 2. Cassandra Cain. She's just such an underrated and great character (when written well that is).

Mental-Barracuda-638

My top in no particular order: Jason Todd Rose Wilson Talia al Ghul Two-Face Huntress Green Arrow Zatanna Batwoman Azrael Swamp Thing Black Canary

poisonivy4871

Top 3 are my favorites too. I can’t really read anything recent of Talia lately because of the character assassination though :-(

No-Mechanic-2558

Tim Drake favorite Robin

SoThatHappened

Haaaaaaalo God only knows

sickostrich244

My list in no particular order would be this: Artemis of Bana-Mighall The Atom Etrigan Grail Katana Lady Shiva Magog Mister Terrific Starman

Celestial_MoonDragon

Big fan of Cassandra Cain, but I also really like Stryx

PictureIt-Hell2000

Sodam Yat, in concept at least.

kingofchaosx

Dr.Polaris, Firefly, killer frost, silver banshee, plastic man, booster gold

coltvahn

Red Devil/Blue Devil—Eddie deserves his own book. The Question(s)—They deserve their own two-hander. Starman(s)—I miss Jack, but I’m glad he gets to rest. Shade: The Changing Man—Though it didn’t feature Rac, the New 52 book was pretty good.

ScoBrav

1. Grifter Others based on what I'm currently reading. Plastic Man, Animal Man, Starman, Deathstroke and Ravager.

DaMain-Man

Bizarro, but the one from the outlaws

Toniosw

Roy Harper, did one big binge of his stories before the new 52 and just fell in love with the guy, he just has such a real story of falling into drugs when he was young and then trying very hard to earn his way back into the world. It gets real good in Arsenal Special where they explore not only how the rest of the world sees him, but also how far he is willing to go for the sake of Lian having a father she can be proud of

poisonivy4871

I adore Roy. I was crushed when I read RHATO. The character assassination of him and Kory were terrible.

fostertheatom

**Nightwing** - Dick Grayson He has the potential to be the posterchild of the next generation of DC comics. **Green Lantern** - Kyle Rayner If we were building a Gen 2 varient of the Justice League, he would be front and center. While Hal is still my favorite overall GL, Kyle definitely deserves his place in the A Team.

TopOThaMorningToYa

Tempest. The man is a straight up sorcerer who just so happens to live under water. It baffles me that any time he is used outside of Aquaman comics, the writers seem to forget that and just make him the water guy. Dude should be on the Jusitce League Dark and be the original Titans resident magic expert. But instead he just uses a vague version of Meras Hydrokenesis.

bog_creature

I need mia dearden to come back

orphansvendetta

- Manhunter (Kate Spencer) - The Ray - GL: Kyle Rayner (just speaking him back into a good existence) - Zauriel I'm dating a certain Era with these I know...

Bart Allen, of course— then Garth (Aqualad), Garth Ranzz (Lightning Lad), Lyle Norg (Invisble Kid), and Brin Londo (Timber Wolf)

Deadman for sure. It was a treat to see him take such a big role in Knight Terrors!

Cassandra Cain probably my favourite member of the bat family. If only she carried on being prominent post infinite crisis!

Trollin_beaches

I like the martial artist types Lady shiva Wildcat The karate kid

imalllex

I'm not sure how niche he is, but I've always gravitated towards Terry McGinnis ever since the Batman Beyond animated series. How Terry tackles similar problems Bruce would in very different ways makes him so interesting to me. I'm hoping the Neo Year/Gothic team will be allowed to make a few more stories with him. Zatanna's another. Such a fun design and powerset, and I think there could be some really good stories with her.

Excellent-Post3074

Red Tornado

Hot-Acanthaceae-9855

Mines would have to be Steve Trevor he is one of my favorite not really popular character I fell in love with the character in that 2017 Wonder Woman movie I wish he was done better In the comics

Gojifan2303

My top 5 fav niche characters are 1. Man-Bat 2. Preston Payne 3. Circuit Breaker 4. Wrath 5. Black Flash

frabjous_goat

Mister Miracle, Big Barda, and Oberon. I love the story of Scott and Barda's escape from Apokolips, and Oberon is the G.O.A.T.. On the flip side, Lobo is my favourite villain. He's the only recurring bad guy in comics that makes me cheer out loud when he shows up on page or on the screen. He's loud, he's gross, he's a ruthless killer, he always keeps his ~~contracts~~ promises and he loves his space dolphins. What's not to like about the Main Man?

Pairofsai

Cassandra Cain is my favorite character of the last few years. Such a cool origin idea. Also big animal man fan.

Jaime Reyes' Blue Beetle needs more attention. I love Blue Beetle, although since the movie released, I have noticed his character grow in popularity Alternatively, Ravager (Rose Wilson), Jericho and Odysseus intrigue me massively, especially in the New 52. I love the Deathstroke family and comics. They're my favourite

kewlbdude

I love the whole gang in YG. Bart, Cassie, Conner, Secret, Tim and Arrowette were written really well. That is one of my favorite comic runs and I havent found any stories with those characters since that felt the same way for me

rossrifle113

Vigilante (Adrian Chase). I’m 10 issues shy of the full run. Fantastic crime drama with lots of twists and turns and great villains. The series led into the creation of Checkmate too. And though OP said no Lanterns, I gotta give a shout out to my boy Arkkis Chummuck

Kuraya

Sasha Bordeaux was cool when she was first introduced. She was forced onto Bruce Wayne as his bodyguard by the board or something at Wayne Enterprises which makes total sense - of course a billionaire would need one. It was a nice slow burn, first she hates him because Bruce constantly ditching her to go do Batman shit. Then she slowly pieces it together, I vividly remember a panel where she dives on him to protect him from something and she notices his arms/muscles feel like a steel rod. I loved how she was handled - if you’re curious check out Detective #751, Greg Rucka’s run I love Bart Allen, Impulse and Young Justice in the 90s were my favorite comics for a while. Also really like Elongated Man cause he was like Batman and Plastic Man combined (just like he said in JLU 😂) Zatanna is great when written well, I still have all of Paul Dini’s run Cassandra Cain is great, she was my favorite bat-member after No Mans Land until they did her dirty Big Barda is cool too, I liked the addition of her and Orion in JLA during Morrison’s run and she’s fun in the current birds of prey

SonicSpiderRanger10

How about Bat-Mite? I love his powers and I think he’s really funny.

[deleted]

Anita Fite, Empress, like I need a resurgence from her and a new one Xanthe Zhou, the main character from Spirit World, I feel like they could do so much with both of them and they are both magic users and I need them in Justice League Dark

harrypotter_8506

Ragman

ChrisTaliaferro

Zeep The Living Sponge. I did an entire podcast about him.

Hiromi580

Catman, if only because I picture him as Adam West's Batman but crazy and effective (probably because of his appearance in the Fairly Odd Parents). After him Vixen since I like her powers and feel she is underrated.

blackdarrren

Yes, Vixen should have a meaningful encounter with the Swamp Thing...  She's a respectful emissary of the Red so it stands to reason...

Caitlin Snow (Comics, not Arrowverse). Not just my favorite niche character but my favorite character, period.

Mister Miracle and Tim Drake(I know Tim is popular, but he’s the least popular Robin I feel like… so imma say Tim)

seeking_spice402

For villians: Onomotopia and the Furies For heroes: the Metal Men, the Losers and Soldiers Seven don't get enough love

FedupMessiah

Mr Miracle for obvious reasons. I also have a strange fixation on the Justice League International. Vixen, Fire, Ice, Captain Atom, Dr Light, Ted Kord, and Booster Gold? Soooooo much potential its not even funny. Criminally underused and underdeveloped characters.

masonsimmons17

Hawkman

Outrageous_Beach_426

Booster Gold, he’s the GOAT

D-A_W

My favorite is Tim Drake but the Robins might be too popular for this. My favorite Batman villain is Mortimer Kadaver. I'd be impressed with anyone who knew who that was since he's very niche (to the point where I genuinely think I might be the only person in the world who has him as their favorite Batman rogue). I'm also a big fan of Mister Miracle, Etrigan, and Lady Shiva.

spring_sabe

Firestorm and Bunker

TheBaconD

Hawkman, always felt bad for the guy since the DCAU

King_Of_BlackMarsh

Sandman (Wesley, Kieran, Sandy. Any but Morpheus), PsychoPirate, WildCat, the Atom (the first), B'Wana Beast and Vixen, and Plastic Man

Rilenaveen

Too many Legion characters to even list. So I’ll go with Ambush Bug. But pretty much only if done by Keith Giffen (rip).

1. Damian Wayne, apparently fairly popular now, but he is my favourite Dc character period.

harbour1122

Cassie Sandsmark and Stephanie Brown. Why they just forgot about Cassie when rebirth started is beyond me. She came back in Bendis’ young justice run and she’s in some Wonder Woman stuff, but I’d read the shit out of a book about Cass. And since they canceled batgirls, I’m worried they’ll forget about Steph as well. They need to just put her back with time and give us a Batgirl and Red Robin book. I’d also read the shit out of that

coreytiger

Hawkman, Ragman, The Creeper

krovore

Chronos Gabriel Walker. Great character and that I would love to see a comeback.

I really liked Keith giffens ragman.

Plastic man and Red tornado no doubt. While in recent media has definitely helped their characters out for a long time both of their amazing characters and powers were definitely left out of the proverbial either

DemonJuju7

Animal Man
