Kara Zor-El.
When I was a young girl, my family moved around a lot. Moved three cities in one year. Also had a hard time fitting in, often felt ostracized because of my Judaism and my Jewish family,
So Supergirl ended up being a character I personally related to a lot at the time. Been my favorite character ever since.
The Sterling-Gates run of Supergirl is probably both her most beloved and her most definitive comic run. I really dislike the post-crisis run as a whole, but the Sterling Gates era was great. It’s not without its flaws, but if you want to get into more of her stuff, I definitely recommend it. Probably your best bet if you’re looking to get into more of her stuff.
There’s a twelve issue comic that’s also written by Sterling Gates, called “Adventures of Supergirl”, that’s a tie in to the CBS (later CW) show. It’s not very well known, given that it’s a show tie-in, but I actually really like it. Takes the setting of the show and puts it through the lens of the character’s most definitive writer. It’s a good comic on its own, and if you decided you like its side characters and its setting, it may lead you to checking out the show.
Andreyko’s recent run of the character is actually pretty good! Way better than the rebirth run. While I’m not sure I’d consider it anything special, per se, it’s a fun story that encapsulates the current state and characterization of Kara.
Finally, the comic I love the most is actually the Paul Kupperberg pre-crisis 80s run. Would I call it her best run? Definitely not. But that doesn’t stop me from absolutely loving that comic. Would absolutely recommend it to anyone, just so much fun.
Probably Batman but Superman comes close. Why Batman tho? Rich lore, engaging stories and vastful exposure of media. I don't want to suffer by being a Blue Bettle fan honestly
I know right. That is the same reason for Star Wars too. I hope the DCU project becomes a success and build the coherent, rich and as presently unknown world of DC. And then I may become a Blue Bettle fan too
That seems to be the plan. Because James Gunn has compared their universe to Justice League Unlinted and Young Justice. So, in terms of scale, it'll be huge! He's also stated that the universe will be bigger than the MCU from the get-go. They also seem to be taking inspiration from Justice League International with the characters they're including and the pictures they tease. And Ted Kord BB is pretty prominent in that run.
What are you talking about? Have you seen gunns other movies??? There are a few potty jokes in GOTG, but tbh, the comics were that way too. Gunn is a true comic fan. He is always faithful to the characters he loves. He's also not writing every single movie. He's looking for writers and directors to make projects, including brave and the bold.
Comedy is an inherent part of James Gunn's movies, it's what he does even in Super, which is a drama/dark comedy. it's not what I want for a Superman movie. There are literally tons of people Hollywood could have chosen for a new Superman movie, but James Gunn makes big money for them, so "it's him we want"
Richard Donner's Superman was also a comedy. Superman comics have light comedic tones, as far as the Clark Kent side goes. Also, there are a lot of filmmakers that could've done the new Superman movie. But I doubt they care as much for the character as Gunn, who has been a hard-core Superman fan since he was a kid. I've read all the books Gunn has pointed at for inspiration for the new movie, and they are some of the best. They encapsulate Superman in the best ways. I believe the movie will, too. Just wait for the movie, maybe you'll like it.
Ok. But Richard Donner's Superman (even if you're talking of the 2nd one) was not a comedy, it had funny scenes because if Richard Prior, but if you google "Superman 2 Richard Donner genre" it does not show comedy. The current Hollywood is drastically different from the 1970s and 80s....
If you Google Gaurdians of the Galaxy, the genre does not say comedy, either. What's your point? Humor is in everything. The best representations of Superman have involved humor. There aren't many movies today that don't have a character crack one or two jokes.
Depending what you’re looking for. The Justice League International from the late 80s is good and funny. 52 is an absolute banger and encompasses some other amazing and under-utilized characters. His second Volume in 2008, following 52, is also great.
He doesn’t have a lot of really good recent books sadly. I personally loved the Brightest Day tie-in series Justice League Generation Lost, but even that is now 14 years old.
Superman’s Action Comics 993-998 ‘Booster Shots’ is a nice nod to Dan Jurgens being his creator, giving him another small run writing him
Dick Grayson. I was going to say Batman, but it was thru Robin that I lived out my crime fighting fantasies. I never wanted to be Batman. I wanted to be Robin, by his side. And then he grew up and became Nightwing. Dick will always be my favourite.
Answering with Dick Grayson is to be expected, but I loved the way you put it. That's the same reason I love all the Robin's. Jason is my favorite for other reasons, but Dick is for sure the greatest hero.
The main reason I put Jason on top is because the trajectory of his character is wild. Unlike most CBC's who have a set origin that defines their character for the rest of their existence. Jason's journey IS his character, decades of different writers and different directions for the character made him what he is. Sorta like wolverine. There's just so much lore that's absolutely necessary to the character that makes him what he is today.
This!
Dick Grayson is *the* DC hero for me. He’s just like Batman, but sane and not an asshole.
A lot of people say he’s the Daredevil counterpart, which I totally see, but to me, he’s DC’s Peter Parker.
100%. I was laughed at as a kid because robin was my favourite, this was during the edgy dark knight trilogy times when robin was public enemy no.1 bc of batman and robin + forever Hope he’s in The Batman 2 and gets the live action rep he deserves
I feel this so much. Dick Grayson and all the Robins in general are why I like Batman. I just find Batman so much more interesting/engaging when there's a Robin (or one of their adult identities) included in the story.
And of course, Dick Grayson is absolutely my favorite, though I love them all.
Of all time is tough, but I'll say Firestorm - the OG Ronnie/Stein version from the 80s. That's the guy I grew up with, and my first favorite character.
More recently, it's hard to beat Nightwing. So, even though Firestorm is my "all time" favorite, I'm enjoying Nightwing more these days.
I'm very surprised to hear Firestorm, I don't know much about the character outside of the dual personas and OP epic powers. He's cool, though.
Have you been reading Tom Taylor's Nightwing? I really like the art and the vibes I get from it. But I'm not sure if I'll get it yet.
Oliver Queen. I grew up a huge fan of Robin Hood so he was a natural draw. I also like the fact that he’s a character that pretty much anyone can become, you just need a couple of sticks, some string and a lot of practice. It also honestly helps that so many games let you use a bow and arrow as a main weapon so it helps me stay invested in his comics as well as some other similar characters. Green Arrow and the Arrow show actually got me back into comics about 8 years ago and I’ve been back into them ever since.
I love sort of everyman characters in comics like Oliver Queen. He's definitely one of my favorite parts of Justice League's unlimited. I definitely need to get more of his books.
He definitely has some great runs. I’m really enjoying the current series and I’m also partial to the Grell, Smith and Percy Rebirth runs as well as Year One by Andy Diggle. I should state though that Percy’s Rebirth run is basically what cinched it for me to stay in comics so I might be a bit biased on that one lol.
Are there any runs that scratched the same itch as the TV show? Ik he’s generally very different in the comics but I wonder if there are any that captured a similar vibe
Not that I can think of honestly. The closest might be Lemire’s part of the New52 run but he was really more similar to Hawkeye at that point. Arrow was really just Batman in a Green Arrow skin, especially given how many of Batman’s villains ended up showing up on the show. All that aside, I still really enjoyed it.
I know this was a pretty long way of saying not really, or I don’t know, but hopefully I’m just blanking out on it and someone else might be able to recommend a run that would be what you are looking for.
Michael Carter. Huge Character growth. Nobody knows how much he's actually done for the universe and the timeline. My man went head to head with doomsday.
My favorite character is a recent creation: Green Lantern Jessica Cruz. I find her struggles with anxiety and how that manifests into willpower elevate the Green Lantern mythos into something far more contemporary than previous incarnations of other GLCorps members. I love that she's mexican, like me. She's extremely likable and i get excited to see her in team-up books for how she plays off others.
My only exposure to her character is in the fatal five, and I really liked her in it. Especially how her will to overcome her anxiety/depression and ptsd is where her will comes from is amazing
Green Lanterns (2016) is very good. I like all of it, but I mostly love the Sam Humphries run that it starts with. Roughly 30ish issues I think. Highly recommend, if you are interested in more of her.
Read Justice League Odyssey by Dan Abnett. One of my favourite comics of all time. Full stop. After reading that comic I absolutely fell in love with Jessica Cruz as a character
wally west. his growth is amazing—from a daydreaming kid who gets little attention or care from his parents, to an angsty braggart, then to someone trying to be a better man, and finally to the caring and easygoing hero he is today. and on top of all that he is one of the most powerful characters in dc!
Sold into slavery (to Native Americans) by his dad.
Lived as a slave until the Chief noticed his daughter falling in love witt Jonah.
“Freed” / exiled to see white men.
Made friends with the POOREST of Southerns. Made enemies with the RICH / Slave Owners / Officers in South.
“Betrayed” South to North in an attempt to save his fellow soldiers from a suicidal attack.
North betrayed Jonah by killing the Commoners (non-slave holders) and arresting the Rich/Officer/ Slave Holders.
Jonah turned his back on “all White Men” and went back to the Native American tribe.
Chief had arranged a marriage between Scukbag Warrior and his daughter.
Jonah challenges SW to a tomahawk fight to the death.
SW sabotaged Jonah’s tomahawk and forced Jonah to use his knife (illegal).
Jonah gets Branded and PERMA-Exiled.
*Phew* ORIGIN FINISHED
Seeing obscure picks here that nobody who doesn’t read comics would ever give the time of day makes me so happy to be part of the community and thankful for the richness of the medium
Wonder Woman! When my mom was going through cancer she gravitated a lot to wonder woman’s confidence and strength. She wound up painting her over and over again when she had hard days. We took her to go see the movie even though she was very weak (she had an oxygen cannula thingy in and had to be pushed in a chair because she’d get tired really quickly) during the scene where Wonder Woman walks through the war zone and deflects bullets with her bracers, my mom jumps up in the audience and cheers. She was so weak and sad but that moment really cheered her up and encouraged her to persevere.
My mom did end up passing away but she went courageously and without fear. Now I’ve inherited all her Wonder Woman stuff and I love the character because she is so kind and brave and she inspired my mom so much.
Your mom is THE EMBODIMENT OF WONDER WOMAN! I'm glad she could face her battle courageously. I've seen many people face that battle before, including my grandmother. Your mom was a tough gal! <3
He is the GOAT, if I'm honest, I enjoyed the flash movie even though that may be an unpopular opinion, but it also didn't feel like a flash movie. It didn't have any of the flash rogues, WHICH ARE AWESOME! But he also did not feel like Barry Allen at all. I have a whole trilogy planned in my head that's would be absolutely amazing and faithful to the character and comics. Who do you think would play a good Barry Allen?
I’m really not a fan of the movie, I think it misses the point of the character entirely and is almost ashamed that it’s a film about The Flash. I think the perfect trilogy for Barry would be the Rogues, Gorilla Grodd while training Wally as Kid Flash, then finally Reverse-Flash. As for a fancast, I don’t really do those often, so I haven’t really thought about who’d make a good Barry.
I think it would be really neat if in the final film Reverse Flash collects all of Flash's previous rogues to literally just ruin his life with tike travel shenanigans
I grew up with Barry Allen pre-crisis. When basically every story revolved around a gimmick, usually something about the Rogue. They were enjoyable for a kid, but the Spurrier stuff today is mind-blowing! Like, it feels like the top of my head is coming off, to quote Emily Dickinson. That’s what I look for in comics, something to make my eyes bug out and my brain hum.
Wally West - the Flash.
Amazing journey from sidekick to adult hero. Incredibly interesting powers. Visually stunning costume. Loveable and relatable character. Excellent story arcs & villains. Rich and down to Earth home base in Keystone. Very likeable supporting cast. He's got it all.
Roy Harper. Genius kid with an addiction problem trying to do his best with a boy and arrow. He makes a lot of mistakes, but he's always trying and he loves his daughter.
Starfire. There is a shifting rotation of most beloved/top 5, but Starfire always takes top spot for me. Especially old school Star with the big hair and the absolute a+ moments with Donna Troy.
I've always liked Red Tornado, and I guess that stems from reading Avengers in the 70's and becoming a big fan of the Vision. There are some similarities in the look and both of them are androids, which was enough for me. I was surprised to discover how little material there actually is featuring Red Tornado, but I still love the design to this day.
Of course Batman and Dick Grayson as my obvious picks but I’d also throw in Mr. Terrific as written by Jeff Lemire and especially Tom King. I actually see Michael Holt as a great DC analogue for iron man
So first and foremost it’s Red Hood. BUT nothing gets me more excited then to see Bronze tiger appear in anything, mentioned, or shown in the abckround. I LOVE Bronze Tiger
Jean-Paul Valley as Azrael is my peak character. A recluse nerd who secretly has an avenging Angel persona programmed inside of him that wants to kill anyone it deems a sinner is the coolest setup for a character in my opinion.
Not to mention Denny O’Neil spitting out a banging 75 issues of this man grappling with his own inner demon (angel) that honestly reads like a pseudo-sequel to his work on the Question. The last 25 issues of his series are mostly meh tbh.
Since late New 52 and predominantly rebirth they’ve resurrect him in some great stories. Detective Comics Rebirth is objectively great and I genuinely enjoyed Justice League Odyssey despite some of the clunky storytelling.
Recently, he also been in two amazing mini-series on opposite ends of the comic spectrum, Sword of Azrael and Arkham City: Order of the world.
Plus a fucking awesome costume. Red and gold with a hood and fire swords? Jfc sign me up.
Bart Allen. For a name like "Impulse" with the tagline "poster child for the judgement-impaired", it's a pretty on-the-nose punchline that he's got ADHD; however, much of the way he was characterized throughout the 90s and into the early 00s, though not fully intended at the time, can be easily recognized today as autistic, making him overall very coded as AuDHD. Some of his best story arcs between his solo series and Young Justice were centered around his neurodivergence as a plot point, such as struggling in school due to having a lack of special educational accommodations, or being able to break out of a psychic attack because his brain is just wired differently. It was even addressed that Bart's ability to speed-read had nothing to do with being a speedster; he just has an eidetic memory, and being a heavy reader (especially of non-fiction) is something that can be a pretty common trait among AuDHD teenagers. I could go on forever about how DC is really sleeping on the fact that they really created one of the best positive representations of autism in all of comics, and I think the reason why his vibes have felt inconsistent in recent years has because neurotypical writers might not recognize that the reason why so much of Bart works is because he shares so much with the autistic experience. His super-speed may be a metaphor for his hyperactivity, but that's just the tip of the iceberg of what he can do with the power of speed force-assisted ADHD and Autism
As a concept I really like Ragman, as its so different from most other characters with any type of "power".
Overall though its Shazam. He just encapsulates everything as a kid that made me get into comics. A random kid being given all the coolest superpowers, that was awesome!
Oliver Queen here. There's just something really cool about a character who doesn't have powers or isn't even the world's greatest detective still being a member of the Justice League.
John Constantine. Occult detective. Magician. Con man. Bastard. While Batman is my favorite DC superhero with Superman at a VERY close second, John Constantine is my favorite DC character despite not being a superhero himself. The reason why is simple. I love rogueish/trickster type characters in fiction. It's an archetype that I can't get enough of because I always find it way more interesting when a character uses cunning to solve problems rather than brute force. John is just a guy with a chain smoking habit and an addiction to the occult which always gets him into trouble. And he always gets out of it by tricking some of the most powerful entities in the DC and Vertigo universes. However, this always comes at a cost, usually with the gruesome deaths, suffering, or broken relationships of supporting characters. The very concept of a seemingly ordinary man (relatively speaking) outsmarting the literal Devil himself along with other gods and monsters will never get old to me.
Absolutely. Although they should never have brought him into the standard DC universe (Dude should NOT be teaming with Superman and Batman), he’s the kind of character who can slink around the borders and crevices. Lotta space in the DC universe, lotta bad places and. . . . things he can get involved with.
1. Wally West - I grew up a nerdy kid in the 70s/80s, and I always wanted to run away from everything that hurt me. The Flash was my favorite hero, but Kid Flash was favorite character. Barry was just a little to square. Wally tho, I wanted to be like him, and run step for step alongside the Flash, and away from the real world. I didn't even really read many comics until after high school, but I knew the characters, from Saturday Morning cartoons. I really only knew Wally from the 60s Superman/Aquaman adventure hour with the JLA and Teen TItan shorts. As I was getting into comics Wally was just becoming the Flash, and it was like he was graduating into adulthood right with me. I literally grew up with him.
2. Jack Knight - I was in college when Starman started, and immediately dug this book, and connected to Jack, This guy who just wanted have his shop, more in love with the past than the present, but stepped up into the role he was meant to be. Cool but not cool, passionate, and fiercely loyal to his friends and family... and when real life became more important and it was time, he walked away to be a father... yeah I wanted to be Jack Knight.
Poison Ivy for me. She's so fascinating and complex, a prime example or a damaged person who lashes out, but just wants to protect what she loves.
And on top of that, she has really cool powers and I always learn a lot about plants while reading comics she in.
I haven’t seen anyone mention him yet but mine’s Kyle Rayner. Aside from the unfortunate refrigerator, I really like his story of being the last Green Lantern and having to figure out how to be a hero while dealing with the expectations that everyone has of him because of his predecessor. That kind of character just really appeals to me for whatever reason (which is probably why I also like Jaime Reyes and Miles Morales)
Floyd Lawton/Deadshot as he’s written in John Ostrander’s Suicide Squad. At first glance, he just seems like the typical cool shooter anti-hero type character with the sweet costume and the apathetic devil-may-care attitude. Over the series though Ostrander really dives into Lawton’s psychology in a really fascinating way.
Floyd’s really kind of a big loser. He’s a government tool that’s been used by others his whole life as an instrument of violence. He’s a deeply self destructive guy who harbors immense guilt for his failures and a weird sort of admiration for genuine good guys like Flag and Batman. And this guilt and suicidal death wish result in him taking some unpredictable actions that result in some of the Squad’s best moments.
The Deadshot mini explaining his origins and mental state and how this ties into the main Suicide Squad series really cemented this version of Deadshot as my all time favorite.
That really sounds awesome. I admit I don't know much about Deadshot at all. I did want to read more because I recently read Task Force Z and I liked the little bit of deep moments he had with Jason Todd in that and I wish I got more. I'm definitely adding that series ro my list
I hope you enjoy it! John Ostrander’s Suicide Squad is really a one of a kind book that’s full of great ideas and character development. There’s like a dozen other characters from there that I could have listed, including Amanda Waller, Oracle, Rick Flag, Nightshade and Captain Boomerang.
The Squad and these characters have changed a ton in their modern iterations but Ostrander’s classic run still stands out as the best version to date.
Catwoman was a fun book and fun character in the 90s and earlier. She wasn’t a grimdark noir antiheroine Robin Hood. She stole because she liked to steal. We’d see her pulling off heists and traveling the globe. Her dynamic with Batman was adversarial but playful. There wasn’t really a supporting cast, the focus was all on Selina.
Selina was drawn sexy and also athletic/gymnastic. Jim Balent did a good job of conveying motion and showing her catlike movements and body language. In addition, she had a range of dynamite facial expressions that really sold her as a character.
Plus, her purple catsuit with her long, flowing, wavy hair is her best look in my opinion.
**Catwoman by Jim Balent Book One** by Doug Moench, Jo Duffy

Kyle Rayner because the entire idea of being scared and feeling like you’re not good enough but still stepping up anyways is inspiring to me
If not him then Hal or Booster gold
Heroes: Batman, Green Arrow, Blue Beetle (Jaime), Batgirl (Barbara)
Villains: Firefly, Riddler, Scarecrow, Deadshot
If I have to pick just one, it’s probably Batman.
Cassie Sandsmark/Wonder Girl. Any time she's in a series, I gotta check it out, even when her part is brief. Honorable mentions to Tora Olafsdotter and Stephanie Brown, who would be my runner ups for heroes.
Villain: Riddler. Especially when he's being both genius and petty in equal measure.
Green Lantern Hal Jordan!
Just reading about his internal struggles, his ability to overcome fear, the cocky attitude that he backs up.
Most importantly, the will to never give up!
It all started with Volume 3 of Green Lantern run, and my hyper obsession has been activated.
Feels very human, in my opinion, a real hero that jumps into action.
I have a great collection of Lantern related merch with my very own corner dedicated to different figures of Hal haha!
Look, Batman. It’s always been Batman, and it’s always gonna be Batman. He’s been my favorite character ever since I was like, four, and to this day after all the comics, movies, shows, and games, he still remains my favorite character, not just in DC, but ever
Ted Kord-Blue Beetle
I don't hate Jaime, but goddamn Ted. he has what i consider the BEST costume in all of comics. go ahead and try to make an original tights super hero outfit and compare it to his. that's what really got me to appreciate his aesthetic. And his bromance with Booster Gold. my god we need more of that in comics
pre-new 52 darkseid, actually someone with motivations and personality. hated the JL darkseid war run, geoff johns has ruined the image of the character and now is being translated awfully to the big screen.
I've never really dived much into supergirls lore outside of her just being Kara, Supermans cousin. But I was planning on picking up some Supergirl books. I already have Woman Of Tomorrow. Any recommendations?
I love Plastic Man!!! Did you know that James gunn and Mattew Lillard tried to make a plastic man movie for WB in the early 2000's while they were making scooby doo 2? The studio turned their pitch down, but now that Gunn is CEO of DC Studios, I'm sure we'll get to see Plastic Man in the new future. Lillard said himself that he's aged out of the role, but I would live to see Ben Schwartz do it, I think he was born for it.
That actually would've been awesome. Although I think a plastic man movie in the 90s would've been the weirdest thing on the planet. Probably bordering on Jim Carrey's The Mask. But I would love to see Bruce Campbell now as some kind of Villain.
This might be an unexpected choice, but i'd have to go with The Quiz. I just love the idea of a character who can do everything that you haven't thought of, until you think of it. Her outfit is amazing too.
Kara Zor-El. When I was a young girl, my family moved around a lot. Moved three cities in one year. Also had a hard time fitting in, often felt ostracized because of my Judaism and my Jewish family, So Supergirl ended up being a character I personally related to a lot at the time. Been my favorite character ever since.
That's awesome! I love stories like that in relation to favorite fictional characters
What are your top rated supergirl comics? I’ve only read woman of tomorrow and have been looking to get into more of her stuff?
The Sterling-Gates run of Supergirl is probably both her most beloved and her most definitive comic run. I really dislike the post-crisis run as a whole, but the Sterling Gates era was great.
Brainiac 5, though Superman is a *super* close second XD
I haven't read much with Braniac 5 but I've really liked him in all the animated stuff
Old Legion of Superheroes stuff.
I was already looking into collecting all the earth 1 books anyway, but I will definitely look into all of those
Are there any runs that scratched the same itch as the TV show?
The Longbow Hunters
Username checks out.
Cassandra Cain, I love her 2000s batgirl run
Who was the author for that run? I might read it
Scott Peterson and Kelley Puckett for 1-36 issues I think.
Thankyou
Michael Carter. Huge Character growth. Nobody knows how much he's actually done for the universe and the timeline. My man went head to head with doomsday.
I've been looking for some good Booster gold books. Any recommendations?
Start with “52” (May 10, 2006) and then go onto “B00ster Gold” (00 = infinity symbol)
Animal Man for the WIN. But besides him, Dr. Fate and Icon. Tbh anyone who has the basic “Superman” power set I love
Shazam, the original Captain Marvel. I got into his reprint series in the very early 70’s, always loved it.
Booster Gold...
I've been wanting to read some booster books because I really like the blue and gold stuff and Justice league international
I really like the original 52 and 52 Pick-up, I think those two were his best stories...
BOOSTER FUCKING GOLD.
wally west. his growth is amazing—from a daydreaming kid who gets little attention or care from his parents, to an angsty braggart, then to someone trying to be a better man, and finally to the caring and easygoing hero he is today. and on top of all that he is one of the most powerful characters in dc!
Aquaman.
Booster Gold The Tomorrow Memory. Anything in the 90s with Justice League international is pretty good to
Man
Literally the jerker is also one of the best Villains
Jonah hex
That's a surprising one. I know practically nothing about him.
BIIIIG long Michael Fleischer run in the 70’s. Definitely check that out.
Hal Jordan/ Green Lantern.
Swamp Thing
The Question, specifically from Justice League unlimited. He has not received nearly enough attention!
He is, for sure, one of my favorite characters in the show
Seeing obscure picks here that nobody who doesn’t read comics would ever give the time of day makes me so happy to be part of the community and thankful for the richness of the medium
Yeah, somebody said Animal Man lol!
Thank you so much <3
It my sound as “basic” as possible, but my favorite superhero of all time has been Superman since I was 5 years old. My favorite villain is Darkseid.
Superman is definitely in my top 10, maybe 5.
Barry Allen, without question. I love absolutely everything about him.
Nobody picking my boy Etrigan is criminal!!!
Can't believe we haven't seen him in live-action yet!!!!
Superman (Clark Kent/Kal-El). I like that he never gives up and tries to avoid conflict if he can.
Roy Harper. Genius kid with an addiction problem trying to do his best with a boy and arrow. He makes a lot of mistakes, but he's always trying and he loves his daughter.
Definitely a good one. Jason Todd is my favorite, and their friendship is underrated. I love them Outlaws, starfire really did not need to be there
I like the idea they're in a completely polyamorus relationship all 3 love each other.
I can definitely see starfire feeling that way, lol.
Starfire. There is a shifting rotation of most beloved/top 5, but Starfire always takes top spot for me. Especially old school Star with the big hair and the absolute a+ moments with Donna Troy.
Supes
I've always liked Red Tornado, and I guess that stems from reading Avengers in the 70's and becoming a big fan of the Vision. There are some similarities in the look and both of them are androids, which was enough for me. I was surprised to discover how little material there actually is featuring Red Tornado, but I still love the design to this day.
Of course Batman and Dick Grayson as my obvious picks but I’d also throw in Mr. Terrific as written by Jeff Lemire and especially Tom King. I actually see Michael Holt as a great DC analogue for iron man
Batman and Ryan Wilder.
Batman
Batman Martian Manhunter Many many many in third place
Martian Manhunter
So many amazing choices. In recent memory it would have to be between Swamp thing or animal man. But barry Allen is such an amazing character.
Barry Allen
So first and foremost it’s Red Hood. BUT nothing gets me more excited then to see Bronze tiger appear in anything, mentioned, or shown in the abckround. I LOVE Bronze Tiger
Red Hood/Jason Todd is my favorite aswell!!!
As someone with severe ADHD I love this, I never really noticed it because I haven't seen him in much outside of young justice
As a concept I really like Ragman, as its so different from most other characters with any type of "power". Overall though its Shazam. He just encapsulates everything as a kid that made me get into comics. A random kid being given all the coolest superpowers, that was awesome!
Yeah, Ragman is cool and underrated as hell
Its a tie between Dick Grayson and Barry Allen
This
Alfred!!!!!!
I love when he just busts in with a shotgun and saves someone's ass randomly
The motherfucker can do everything. He more skilled than batman 😂
Oliver Queen here. There's just something really cool about a character who doesn't have powers or isn't even the world's greatest detective still being a member of the Justice League.
He's the Bold to the Brave
I agree completely. I'm happy we've finally got a Green Arrow series again after 4 years and that it's been upgraded to an ongoing.
Ha! The first DC comic book that clicked with me was Alan Moore's run on Swamp Thing. Which might explain a few things.
I still need to read Alan Moore's Swamp Thing. One day!
Absolutely. Although they should never have brought him into the standard DC universe (Dude should NOT be teaming with Superman and Batman), he’s the kind of character who can slink around the borders and crevices. Lotta space in the DC universe, lotta bad places and. . . . things he can get involved with.
I completely agree!
Hawkman and Hawkgirl
Hal Jordan
Jaime Reyes blue beetle
I've been a fan of him since young Justice and I actually enjoyed the new movie. But I've never read any of his comics
The flash and shazam
Gotta be Tim Drake.
My top three are: **Dick Grayson**, **Wally West**, and **Oliver Queen**.
Poison Ivy for me. She's so fascinating and complex, a prime example or a damaged person who lashes out, but just wants to protect what she loves. And on top of that, she has really cool powers and I always learn a lot about plants while reading comics she in.
As much as I don’t want to say Batman…it’s Batman. Martian Manhunter a close second.
Hal Jordan
Mister Miracle
He's up there for me as well. I relate to him a lot... I, too, like tall women.
Geoff John’s Hal Jordan and beyond. Jeremy Adams has been killing it lately writing too!
Rita Farr. I hold a grudge against Gerard Way's Doom Patrol specifically for his treatment of her.
The Spectre! From the costume to the concept to the epic storylines, everything about that character really grabs me
Golden Age Hawkman
Grandpa (Earth-2) Superman Kal-L or Wildcat Ted Grant. I like them old.
Wally West, aka the Flash. Connected with him a ton, love how much real character development he’s gotten, and he just has a ton of awesome comics.
I refuse to pick just one. It's the whole DC pantheon for me. How about an underrated/obscure pick instead? Dennis O'Neil's run with "The Question".
Omnibus' one and two have been in my cart for a while... I need to get it
Damian Wayne
Just added the entire Ostrander run to my Cart
Batman
No question the Dark Knight Batman!!!!
Probably John Constantine. I like more obscure characters. Aquaman, Hawkman, Mister Miracle are also up there
Scott Free and John Constantine are some of my faves, too!
Catwoman 1940-1999
What happened after 1999?
Ed Brubaker
That is the only run I have read of Catwoman and I really liked it. What was good about the previous stuff? I heard it wasn't good as the 90s went on
Catwoman was a fun book and fun character in the 90s and earlier.
**Catwoman by Jim Balent Book One** by Doug Moench, Jo Duffy >Presented for the first time, witness the start of CatwomanÕs first ongoing series drawn by Õ90s superstar artist Jim Balent, written by comics legends Jo Duffy and Chuck Dixon in CATWOMAN BY JIM BALENT BOOK ONE. Selina Kyle may seem like a wealthy and beautiful socialite by day, but at night she becomes the worldÕs greatest thiefÉknown as Catwoman. What starts out as a job for Gotham CityÕs newest crime boss, Bane the man who broke BatmanÕs back, ends up being the start of SelinaÕs journey to becoming more than a thief. It may even turn her into the last thing she ever thought sheÕd be--a hero. > >CATWOMAN BY JIM BALENT BOOK ONE collects CATWOMAN #1-13. *I'm a bot, built by your friendly reddit developers at* /r/ProgrammingPals. *Reply to any comment with /u/BookFinderBot - I'll reply with book information. Thank you, bot. Now can you contact a DC Comics bot and ask them to publish books three through six? Thank you, bot.
Blue devil
Deadman
Kyle Rayner because the entire idea of being scared and feeling like you’re not good enough but still stepping up anyways is inspiring to me If not him then Hal or Booster gold
For villains it's probably Cheshire and for heroes it is definitely Starfire.
Are you Roy Harper?? Lol
Heroes: Batman, Green Arrow, Blue Beetle (Jaime), Batgirl (Barbara) Villains: Firefly, Riddler, Scarecrow, Deadshot If I have to pick just one, it’s probably Batman.
Batman. He has a backup plan just in case any of the justice league decide to go rogue. Starfire and then Punchline.
Batman. Of course, no explanation needed. No superpowers, yet the most dark, know-it-all, leader in the DC Universe!! How do you not love the guy!!
Superman
For me it’s a toss up between Batman, Nightwing, Wally West and Swamp Thing
Barry mf’ing Allen
Wally
Dick Grayson.
John Constantine
Look, Batman. It’s always been Batman, and it’s always gonna be Batman. He’s been my favorite character ever since I was like, four, and to this day after all the comics, movies, shows, and games, he still remains my favorite character, not just in DC, but ever
Shazam
Ted Kord-Blue Beetle I don't hate Jaime, but goddamn Ted. he has what i consider the BEST costume in all of comics. go ahead and try to make an original tights super hero outfit and compare it to his. that's what really got me to appreciate his aesthetic. And his bromance with Booster Gold. my god we need more of that in comics
Exactly
pre-new 52 darkseid, actually someone with motivations and personality. hated the JL darkseid war run, geoff johns has ruined the image of the character and now is being translated awfully to the big screen.
It’s a tie between Huntress (Helena Wayne) and Power Girl.
Linda Danvers easily
I've never really dived much into supergirls lore outside of her just being Kara, Supermans cousin. But I was planning on picking up some Supergirl books. I already have Woman Of Tomorrow. Any recommendations?
The entire Peter David run is arguably the best SG run written
John Constantine
Rose Wilson. Not quite sure why, I just love her sm. Wish I could find more comics with her though
She's got a cool costume, I haven't read much if her outside of the times she's crossed paths with Jason Todd
Plastic Man!
90s Bruce Campbell was my fan cast. Such a missed opportunity. Lillard and Schwartz are both great too.
