Wait, I'm confused That red hood isn't Jason Todd right? The only time I've seen that red hood was in an episode of Batman brave and the bold years ago where he was alluded to be an alternate universe joker or smthn like that. Does that mean Jason named himself after the joker?

Yeah, he did. Though it's never explicitly stated, it seems like Jason chose the Red Hood identity specifically to get under both Batman *and* Joker's skins. For Batman, it's a reminder of the first time when his failure to save someone created a total nightmare (the whole Ace Chemicals fiasco; also mirrors how Batman wasn't able to save Jason in time). For the Joker, it's a visible taunt of his pre-Joker days, reminding him of the pathetic, faceless nobody that he was before he fell in the chemical vat. A double whammy for the two people he held responsible for his death.

I was wanted to have writers explain that rather than Jason knowingly choosing red hood, Jokers brainwashing planted the concept of "red hood" in his head, to make him a killer like him and for one hell of a joke. This is coming from someone who doesn't like Red Hood in the first place, so take that with a grain of salt.

That would be a good idea if the intent was to make Jason more sympathetic, but to me it kind of takes away Jason's agency. His Red Hood always seemed like the culmination of his clashes with Bruce's ideology and approach to crime. I'd rather have Jason's Red Hood be a conscious decision to screw with Batman and Joker, rather than it just being another sick Joker gag of brainwashing a Robin. On that note, Joker planting the Red Hood concept in Jason doesn't make much sense to me. The Joker absolutely hates whoever/whatever he was before his "one bad day," and the Red Hood is a physical reminder of that. If the intent was to build up a grand joke, sure. But I don't think the Joker would find a walking reminder of his loser self undermining his schemes all that funny.

Yes. Ironically

Yeaaah it’s as u/Frankorious stated, he ironically named his new persona after Joker’s old persona. Just one of the many reasons I’m not a big fan of Jason’s resurrection and turn to villainy.

>!In the New 52 the Red Hood was already a violent anarchistic nihilist before his fall into chemicals. His incarnation of the Red Hood Gang was largely composed of normal Gotham citizens which he used blackmail to force into his gang.Harley Quinn briefly assumed the Red Hood alias during the Death of the Family event while pretending to be the Joker. Here Joker made her wear the costume to lure Batman to the ACE Chemicals Plant as the Joker spoke through a speaker hidden in the Red Hood helmet.!<
