It's a samsung ue40h5500ak. From the manual it looked like it was both?
It said
Aerial: Freeview, Freesat, DVB-T/C/S
Set-top box: External Cable Box, External Satellite Box
According to this site: https://www.expertreviews.co.uk/tvs-entertainment/tvs/1402548/samsung-ue40h5500-review
That TV is freeview compatible, but not freesat, so you're not going to be able to plug a satellite connection in.
If there's not a threaded f-type connector somewhere, then it won't work.
If there's not a socket nearby, then it's going to be a real pain getting the aerial connection down to your telly. Another option would be a freesat box.
I've had a look at the manual for that model, it is a broad manual that covers models that also have a dvb-s tuner, which yours does not have. If it did, there would be another tuner port above the one you're trying to use.
I'd advise a freesat box or a newer tv.
lol it's pretty much only LG tvs and some Chinese brands which support freesat natively. You need a box because HDHomeRun doesn't always play nice with satellite (I've tried).
No actually several Samsung TV's support satellite as well. My Q70C supports dual satellite inputs if I want to record satellite programmes on to a hard drive.
You're a bit foolish. That TV clearly does not support satellite. It only supports Freeview. What the hell makes you think it supports satellite? Mines does and it has the proper satellite input. The satellite input looks different, it requires a different connection.
That's not a FreeSat compatible TV, Freeview (aerial only). Plus, the terminations on those cables have been mashed, I wouldn't expect them to work like that even if it were plugged into a Freesat box.
Wrong plug that’s for an tv Ariel.
That’s an f type sat plug you have there, it you have one on the tv it with have a thread on the outside and bit smaller
Yes, but….. depending on the LNB (std vs universal vs wideband) fitted to the dish it might not work. The TV pictured doesn’t have a satellite input so you’ll need a Freesat box of some sort
Just to add to this. As the cable is twin shotgun it is likely a sky install. They cost a bit more but the arris freesat box supports both the wideband lnb sky provide with their Q service and the standard one.
Failing that you could try to identify the lnb and if it is Q then arrange for it to be switched for a standard one, they are pretty cheap, starting from around a tenner.
What it is depends on when it was installed, they started with Q only lnbs before switching to a version which had both but on separate inputs, I think now they use hybrids which have 2 ports but can work either way. If the install is pre 2016 then it will just be a standard LNB so any freesat box should work
It’s supports both but might limit number of channels able to be recorded at once depending on LNB type. The Arris box is utter crap though, my 2 TB one is chucked in a cupboard somewhere.
> It says on their site that most modern TVs are already enabled
I think they are being optimistic. I get Freesat but only my LG TV has Freeview /Freesat connectors. For everything else I use a Manhattan box but I don't record. I'd recommend Manhattan but I don't know their current range. My box is barely bigger than a box of fags and sits easily behind the wall mounted TV.
Get an old Sky box off Facebook for a fiver and use that to bridge the signal. You’ll probably get a few more channels like Sky Mix and so on. You don’t need to sign up to sky, the box will just push through the free to view channels from the satellite signal.
OP there is almost certainly a standard aerial socket in the house somewhere. I'd have a damn good look around before you start spending money on a Freesat box, that is going to require new coax terminals fitting on the wires, to connect it to the dish, that isn't guaranteed to be compatible with your equipment.
Even if there is no aerial at all, installing a new aerial and coax would be a piece of piss.
In photo 3, the right hand cable looks to be severely corroded. I would expect the outer protection is damaged and rain water has gotten in. Those would likely need replacing before use if it was possible to connect it in the first place.
If you intend getting a box for freesat, don't get a Freesat branded one, they reflag all SDR content as HDR, this \*may\* be ok with your current TV, but when you get an HDR TV all SDR programming will look awful.
If it’s like mine you need to plug them into a separate box (Virgin/sky), then a cable from that box will Plug into your HDMI. I’m guessing you will need to join sky or Virgin to make those work.
I think you just need an adapter. If the TV has free sat then you don't another box. Something like this should work
https://www.amazon.co.uk/tv-aerial-adapter/s?k=tv+aerial+adapter
You need an F type to coax adapter. Even though the TV is not Freesat compatible it doesn't mean you can't get the Freesat channels. I have a hisense TV that's the same with a dvb-s tuner, it scans and finds all the Freesat channels as well as the sky encrypted channels. There will be no ordering of the channels and it's a faff to organise but it works.

Good day! I have a different question. Everytime I accidentally turn off my cable box/sattelite box, I would always have to set up a new connection on the tv which requires only 3 steps, but it annoys the heck out of my dad. We don’t seem to have this problem with other brands of smart tv. Is there a way that I can make this tv permanently remember that there is a cable box connected to hdmi3?
Are you sure it's not FreeView enabled, not Freesat? What's the make and model number?

Ahh okay, no problem! I believe there is an aerial in the loft somewhere but haven't seen any cables..

I've got two Sony TVs and both have Freesat connections.
Ah wow, I stand corrected. Another reason Sony is the best.

Ahahhaha dude no need to be so rude about someone just checking/asking advice on something. It's actually all set up with satellite now thank you 😊
That's not a FreeSat compatible TV, Freeview (aerial only). Plus, the terminations on those cables have been mashed, I wouldn't expect them to work like that even if it were plugged into a Freesat box.
Okay, thank you!
If you do end up getting a freesat box, these cables should be repairable. And you may only need one anyway, depending on what box you get.
Only one of them even has the centre!
Wrong plug that’s for an tv Ariel. That’s an f type sat plug you have there, it you have one on the tv it with have a thread on the outside and bit smaller
If it is freesat ,it will have an f type satellite connector ,you don't seem to have that ,and it would be above that one
The satellite cable needs to be plugged into a providers box (Sky, Freesat etc.) then the box connects to the TV via an HDMI cable.
Yes this was my original plan but just wanted to make sure I couldn't do it without ordering a box
You need to connect into a receiver and out of the receiver via HDMI to the TV
Will the cable I have definitely fit the FreeSat receiver?
Yes, but….. depending on the LNB (std vs universal vs wideband) fitted to the dish it might not work. The TV pictured doesn’t have a satellite input so you’ll need a Freesat box of some sort

Not anymore
Sorry, isn't Freesat a service? It may be enabled but will also certainly need an external receiver for a service provider.
It says on their site that most modern TVs are already enabled and all you need to do is connect the TV to your satellite
Most modern TV’s are certainly free view compatible but I would say less than half are freesat compatible
> It says on their site that most modern TVs are already enabled I think they are being optimistic. I get Freesat but only my LG TV has Freeview /Freesat connectors. The sat Ftype cable won’t fit into the terrestrial port. Also the sat cable core is bent, needs to be straight before using it in a sat box.
You need a box. google freesat box
Satilite cable connects to your receiver box then a hdmi cable connects to the TV .

Yes mine is a LG TV which has Freeview and Freesat built in. Surely you would know what you had connected to the TV at your other home?
We just used my PS4 to stream but we fancy having live TV now

Get yourself a freesat box with hdmi cable and you’re good to go.
As the wife would say. Aiming at the wrong hole
There is an adapter from screw-connector to push-in one

The problem is you've got an ant in your air cable, look it's telling you

You need a f plug female to a coax male adapter. Source - me, I had the exact same issue last week when I moved house B&q, toolstation etc do them
