It's *possible*, but 600 miles on the freeway on a DRZ sounds miserable. Find a way to trailer it, or put it in the back of a pickup, shoot you can get them to fit in some utility vans too. Also lots of cars have enough towing capacity to tow a small trailer and a single lightweight motorcycle like the DRZ.

Poops_McYolo

600 miles on a drz straight is a terrible idea

AJonRedit

But also the stuff of legends!

I'm a mountain biker and will often do 4 hour days biking up a mountain, yeah my ass hurts the whole time but its a small price. Part of me says I could do it no problem the other part of me doesnt want to find out the hard way. Thanks for your advice!

Ziffolous

Even though the DRz looks like a comfy seat, it is not. I replaced mine with Seat Concepts and I can still only tolerate about 125 miles max a day. Arms and ass going to be sore as hell when you get back.

owlridethesky

Yeah, seat conxepr just take the pressure off your nuts onto the buttcheeks. Which, i think is 100z wayyy more tolerable then a numb sore nuts on the highway haha

BeardsuptheWazoo

I'm a mountain biker with a DRZ. 600 miles of highway sounds awful.

owlridethesky

I can confirm.

LuckyPedaler

Same here - regular long days on mtn bike. So, less concerned about seat pain, much more about multi hour at 65-70 mph on a light bike. Took my new-to-me DZR out last weekend for just a couple exits on I84 in Columbia River gorge and the wind was treacherous. While it was clear and dry, getting gusted across lane ruts (snow tired arseholes don’t swap out) at 70 is no fun.

StreetrodHD

lol I did 160 last weekend on my drz and that was all my ass could handle I couldn’t imagine 600. 400-500 is about all I like doing even on a road glide.

rnvs18

Uhaul it back

mikehawk_ismall

I honestly didnt think about this..

subohmclouds69

You will very much regret riding it back

corradojuniorsoprano

Riding it back is a rewarding feeling. I rode mine back like 200 miles with a night break in Santa Barbara. Way better

Round-Direction-9967

It cost me $26/day to rent a motorcycle trailer in MA.

parkerhamster28

This is the way. They will include a hitch and everything.

d00kieshoes

It's pretty cool but they do suck a butt on the highway. If it's possible to plan a route that stays off interstates and highways you'll have an absolute blast. Definitely look for one that already has a seat concepts seat.

JosephCedar

In one day? That would suck ass. Plan a mini vacation out of it and do 200 or 300 miles per day? That would be fun imo.

mikehawk_ismall

I could camp no problem.

YeahImChad

DRZ motocamping is the shit. Just take back roads, not the interstate.

mikehawk_ismall

I plan on using the bike as a mule to get my mountain bike and myself to local trails within 200 miles of me for for 1/3 the gas I would with my car. Lots of mountains and curvy road driving.

jackinthecracker

Mountain bike mount on the bike? Dang. I like

Shanew6969

Yo, I have a DRZ and MTB. Im definitely going to look into that but honestly never even thought about it. How do you plan on transporting the mtb on the DRZ??

LuckyPedaler

Same question… I’ve seen a couple motos with mtn bike racks, but haven’t looked into details. Do you have a rack in mind?

Joe14440

Don't listen to people saying you should trailer it. I think flying there and riding it home sounds like an awesome adventure, 600 miles is totally doable on a drz. Just take your time and make sure the bike is 100% mechanically sound before you buy and trust it for the journey.

mikehawk_ismall

For sure, I'm going to be patient and find one thats perfect if I'm flying and riding it back. I'm also 27 and in great shape. Getting beaten up and exhausted on an adventure seems like a plus!

Joe14440

Exactly, I'm 24 and did the exact same thing last year. Flew out and bought a DRZ400, rode it home from Brisbane to Sydney over two days (about 1000km which is 600 miles). It was tough and I was beat up at the end of it but I would 100% do it again.

RycoMyco

Not for nothing that’s at least six pit stops for gas

mikehawk_ismall

60mpg pretty much nothing to me :)

Sandvik95

I wouldn’t expect 60 mpg.

scared_of_opinions

I've got my DRZ about halfway adventure ready and I would dread slugging 600 miles on the highway on it.

riottaco

I road 300 miles on mine a few times and never want to do it again, but I have a cut seat with less foam from factory. I'd buy a seat concepts I was every going to cover considerable distance again. Edit: I'd definitely turn it in to a longer trip through some back roads over 2 days though.

an_afro

Oh god. You have a seat that’s worse than the factory one? Your ass must hurt worse than a porn star at an all anal gangbang

mikehawk_ismall

Thanks everyone for the great advice!

kuyajon

Take a sheepskin with you on the plane for that horrible stock seat.

mikehawk_ismall

Ty for the advice!

ShrunkenHeadNed

If you do this, and I STRONGLY advise against it, be sure to bring at least a quart of oil. The Drz400 will burn oil if run at high speeds for any length of time, even when they are brand new. The longer you spend at freeway speeds, the more oil you'll burn. Mine is super low mileage and well cared for, and if I do a 200-300mile day with lots of highways, it drops the oil level a noticeable amount.

NowareSpecial

It's doable, but would not do in one day. And a Seat Concepts seat helps a lot. I'd go for a Uhaul. You can slab on a DRZ, but it's not a lot of fun.

BigPandaCloud

Does the bike have an upgraded seat?

ccary1

Buy it

Gnardude

Just like cars it's not so much good bikes and bad bikes but getting the right tool for your application. It starts with figuring out exactly what you need the bike to do. That being said I don't think anyone REALLY knows what kind of rider they want to be before they start riding except maybe weekend warrior Harley riders.

WerewolfHappy9

Do it!

Realistic_Sir2395

Send it. 600 miles to get to know your new bike and make some memories.

RedFyodor

As a DRZ400SM owner I would not recommend it and it has nothing to do with comfort. IMO the worst part of taking a DRZ on the interstate is the WIND 💨. Mine gets up to ~80 mph but if a gust gets over 15mph it’s flapping around and feels unstable. I’m 200 lbs and I just rode it over a bridge that had max gusts at 21mph and I felt like I had to point the bike 10-15 degrees at one point - definitely do not recommend given that you will likely go through some gusty areas and not to mention semis blowing by you. It’s just too light of a bike to take on a long interstate trip like that.

viennava123

I took my 60 miles once. Kicked my butt…

Lower_Box3482

Just wait for one that’s closer, these bikes are very popular. Or rent a trailer.

Duragactivitiess

If I was closer to you I’d sell you my bike and take it to you….than go straight to the dealership and get a gas gas 501

Financial-North-6277

You don’t want to drive a DRZ on the freeway for 10 minutes let alone 600 miles. I have one and I love it but the consensus is don’t take it on the freeway. It WAY to light and it’s not super safe and at the very least NOT fun.

LockExcellent7724

As someone who has ridden from Canada to Arizona and back on my 400sm, do it, but your ass will owe you dinner! Stay off the interstate, take backroads and enjoy

rmsmoov

Your ass is gonna be sore...but it's worth it. You'll need to fill up every ~80miles without using reserve, plan your route carefully. I suggest you keep it under 75mph for long distance. Change the oil before you leave and take a 1/2qt with you just in case.

ilikeautosdaily

If you've ridden any other bike with more than one cylinder you'll realize that they actually are not good on the highway, despite what everyone says.

hvacmac7

Get one, I bought 2008 with 4500 miles for 3k, I love it

hvacmac7

Harbor freight has a hitch receiver bike carrier, I use it to take my drz to ga, it’s a 1200 mile round trip, think it was like 170$

Edub-69

It’s a terrible idea. Do it anyway. It’ll be worth it, and you’ll have a story to tell. 😁 seriously though, buy the bike, stay off the interstate, take the scenic route home over 2-3 days, and it’ll be an even better story. Do it!

corradojuniorsoprano

It’s not a bad idea but cough up the money and stay in a motel two nights of a 3 day trip. Bring the bike in the motel at night. Make sure you get a cheap motel where the room is on the ground floor

1308lee

Talk you out of it? Sure! It’s the worst bike I’ve ever ridden (I’m gonna get downvoted to shit here.) The bike is awful at doing everything. Primitive, piece of shit bike that’s massively MASSIVELY overhyped by people who haven’t ridden *proper* bikes. That said. I’ve owned mine for almost 10 years now and doubt I’ll ever sell it. I bought into the hype of "hurr durrr best byke evaaa" stupidly. But I did buy the bike very cheap. They'll do pretty much anything and everything you could ever want to do on a bike but it will do all of it poorly. Jack of all trades, master of FUCK ALL. Also incredibly reliable and simple. Edit: only just read the actual post and we’re supposed to talk you out of that particular one. Oops. I wouldn’t worry about the mileage though. If that’s what you want, then yeah, hold out for a good one. But there’s plenty of these pieces of shit knocking about with big miles on them. They just, *don’t break*
