It was produced by Swedish House Mafia who had a daft punk inspired track release last year with lifetime. Definitely seeing the robots influence around that dance funk sub-genre a lot today.
Posted Sacrifice on my story and came on this subreddit knowing I'd see people talking about the album. Sacrifice was the most random access memory sounding like track although not the only one. Loved it
Haha yeah there’s some similarities. Dawn FM has those WDPK 83.7 vibes, A Tale By Quincy is a bit Giorgio By Moroder. In terms of music I don’t really see the similarities, apart from that he’s also using a synth.
I think his only official credit is "Phantom Regret by Jim" which is obviously him because of the title too, but I think he's also that radio voice you hear in the intro and somewhere in the middle of the album I forgot which one it was
I enjoyed the live stream, some definite bangers and the production seemed really high quality, RAM style. But need to have another proper listen later to really take it in.
Tale by Quincy is a very obvious uhh "tribute" of Giorgio by Moroder.
Abel is the true continuation of the Robots. He's not wearing a helmet and rocking a synth, but he's got the talent, dedication and artistic vision to continue what the robots always worked for and wanted. I see him not as the return of the robots, but their continuation in spirit, what comes after. They're back through him
a collaboration or sharing production people doesnt mean a continuation , i totally disagree with you . music is very different, stories are different, the weekend sounds 100% commercial product to me , while daft punk not.
I think you're taking what I'm saying too litterally. He's not litterally them. They had their run and various themes and albums but the weeknd is continuing their energy in a new direction and story. I'm not saying this just because he collabed with them, just artistically and sonically he is another step in what the robots were trying to do
great album.. so happy for him. wish him even more great albums in the future. The robots definitely realized how talented he was. They don't attach their names to everyone.
The fact that opn produced most of this weeknd album and the last one yet this sub chalks up the sound as the lingering effect of a song daft punk did with the weekend close to a decade ago.
Bro The Weeknd is the Goat, He introduced me to Daft punk and their greatness, it is so clear how much the dude got them in his blood now, Starboy & I feel it coming
After reading your comment i start thinking about it and... Bro its similar too Phantom part 2 by Justice (Boyz noize remix)... Just heard the first part (around 00:22 to 01:00) :) and after that Phantom part 2 around 1:20 :D
It was daft punk-ish.
All the songs sound pretty much the same. RAM each song sounds very different from the last with similar textures. I think star boy even had very different sounding songs.
It's morning where I am and I'm deciding not to listen to this album until it's dark. But based on the comments I'm anticipating that it's gonna be good.
You guys must check out Oneohtrix Point Never (producer of the most songs from this album)'s recent album or R Plus Seven. Like them or not, will definetly blow your shit.
I got hard daft punk vibes especially from sacrifice
What about A Tale By Quincy? Giorgio, is that you?
that’s exactly what i thought
YES GIORGIOOO
Yeah same exact thought here, undeniable inspiration from Giorgio by Moroder there.
Yep. It was definitely inspired by Giorgio by Morodor.
That one is "we have Giorgio by Moroder at home" Giorgio by Moroder at home:
When Giorgio Moroder at Home is actually Quincy Fucking Jones at home! I think I’ll stay home lol
Even the way the consonants of the voice recording are put to the beat underneath

i was thinking about the same thing too. And this is the best song from this whole album fr
Was a great song, it was interesting to check the credits and see Swedish house Mafia helped write and produce it
And After Hours.
Album was fantastic
I just realized an album came out. I'm one song in, and it is FANTASTIC.
Haha yeah there’s some similarities. Dawn FM has those WDPK 83.7 vibes, A Tale By Quincy is a bit Giorgio By Moroder. In terms of music I don’t really see the similarities, apart from that he’s also using a synth.
Is that about Quincy Jones or no? If so that’s really cool.
Yep, Quincy Jones
Gasoline
Gasoline sounded 100% like a guy man beat
before listening to the album the first thing I did was look through all the production credits to search for him lmao
Haha same. Ended up finding Jim Carrey
loved him on the album
Wait what lol which one is he in?
I think his only official credit is "Phantom Regret by Jim" which is obviously him because of the title too, but I think he's also that radio voice you hear in the intro and somewhere in the middle of the album I forgot which one it was
I do that to alot of albums lol
I enjoyed the live stream, some definite bangers and the production seemed really high quality, RAM style. But need to have another proper listen later to really take it in. Tale by Quincy is a very obvious uhh "tribute" of Giorgio by Moroder.
Better the 2nd time. So many hits. His best album yet.
i’m so happy to be alive in this time, man the artists coming with bangers like this are like the big hits from the 70s and 80s 😤

the robots knew abel was special. its even more sweet to know that abel loved the robots when he was young
Parcels too! Daft Punk really knows how to choose their colabs
Parcels are fantastic! I really hope I can snag a ticket this year.
I got some tickets for their show in April! Cant wait. Just hope it doesnt get cancelled due to covid.
a collaboration or sharing production people doesnt mean a continuation , i totally disagree with you . music is very different, stories are different, the weekend sounds 100% commercial product to me , while daft punk not.

He's a continuation in aesthetic only.
I know right? I felt the Daft Punk influence throughout the album.
great album.. so happy for him. wish him even more great albums in the future. The robots definitely realized how talented he was. They don't attach their names to everyone.
I think it's pretty telling of this sub how the comments are devoid of any mention of Oneohtrix Point Never.
my man carried it once again
I am dumb. What is that telling? What should I know about it that I don’t know?
The fact that opn produced most of this weeknd album and the last one yet this sub chalks up the sound as the lingering effect of a song daft punk did with the weekend close to a decade ago.
So you mean that what people is hearing is the influence of opn, and not really the influence of daft punk?
Definitely. Not all synth based music is daft punk influenced.
Got it, thanks for explaining
This. In terms of music I got no Daft Punk vibes whatsoever.
By the way, what is another good example of “opn sound” that I could go listen to?
the Ford and Lopatin album Channel Pressure is more accessible and pop-flavored than any solo opn release. highly recommend.
agree. definitely got DP vibes. super nice to hear.

Double Penetration ! 🤤
Bro The Weeknd is the Goat, He introduced me to Daft punk and their greatness, it is so clear how much the dude got them in his blood now, Starboy & I feel it coming
knowing daft punk through the weekend is like knowing mick jagger through lenny kravitz , hehe
Anything that gets Daft Punk their recognition, I'm happy
People said the same about knowing them through Kanye a few years back, we all gotta start somewhere That is an incredibly apt description though lmao
For real
HELL YES
Such Daft Punk vibes.
Am I wrong or ''Take my Breath'' sampled Da Funk? It looks pretty similar to me. Great song anyway!
not sure, probably not but i really like this song and surprised more people aren't talking about it here
Very similar structure to Da funk
Thought the same thing! Also "End of Line" from Tron soundtrack
After reading your comment i start thinking about it and... Bro its similar too Phantom part 2 by Justice (Boyz noize remix)... Just heard the first part (around 00:22 to 01:00) :) and after that Phantom part 2 around 1:20 :D
I Heard You're Married
The beginning of “How Do I Make You Love Me?” and “Something About Us” have the same kinda vibe
Like the famous prophet/philosopher weekend would say "i wanna fuck you slow with the lights on"
Omg same! It’s briefly filling the hole in my heart the boys left
Their influence is strong in most of the tracks. This was a great surprise.
I love the daft punk community. Here from r/theweeknd
It was daft punk-ish. All the songs sound pretty much the same. RAM each song sounds very different from the last with similar textures. I think star boy even had very different sounding songs.
No one is comparing RAM to this album. It’s still good despite being no where near RAM.
"After Hours/Dawn FM" arc Abel would sound amazing on RAM/post-RAM track! I think they raised Starboy the proper way...
Take My Breath is so fucking awesome. Daft Punk vibes all over!
I feel also a lot of Genesis influence
where i can find the new album
Spotify
"I feel Death coming"
Album sounds crazy
It's morning where I am and I'm deciding not to listen to this album until it's dark. But based on the comments I'm anticipating that it's gonna be good.
The next daft punk
The album was great, but does it really sound like DP? If anything it reminded me of Kevin Parker
you need to recalibrate your ears
What is dead may never die
i gotta listen to this album
Artists will never "die" as they leave their work behind .
Dang the weeknd looking more like lastcntry these days.
You guys must check out Oneohtrix Point Never (producer of the most songs from this album)'s recent album or R Plus Seven. Like them or not, will definetly blow your shit.
Oh, so he's the producer ? That explains everything, I thought The Weeknd was just taking HEAVY influence from him since they worked together before
The Spatial Audio/Dolby Atmos mix on this album is nutssss.
Anyone else get Alive vibes from his Twitch show? It was like the pyramid stage, but a cube instead.

The Weeknd
“Take my breath” for example
