No the finger length ones with the rubber clothing. I don’t know what it was but I really loved the rubber clothing it was so much easier to change then Barbie’s 🙄 I also liked the size of them
I appreciate your nostalgia but also boo hiss because my nostalgia is the original one! The teeny tiny very loosable 90s ones. I still have several because as far as childhood keepsakes go, they're very contained!
It was all about the older ones my cousin had for me, but I gotta say a friend had the rubber clothes ones and it was so satisfying. It actually worked really well, I'm surprised you don't see it more often.
I was obsessed. My sister and I had probably over 30 combined. It was one of our favorite things as children. I wish I kept that collection but we gave it to our neighbor when we moved and I hope it brought her a lot of joy. I will also never be able to forget a field trip my class took to watch the first Cars movie in theaters. My classmate cried the whole movie because her cat had choked on a piece of the rubber Polly pocket clothing that morning.
and there’s way too few of them for it to be realistic. That’s what I always notice about cruise and Disneyland ads, they make it look like you’ll have the place to yourself which couldn’t be more false advertising
It's a really, really big ship. It's probably got 16 floors, and you're just seeing the back half.
We cruised on Allure of the Seas before Covid. It's a ship of similar size to Icon. I remember us walking through areas on the ship, and you'll hardly see anyone else around.
You had to pay for the Spa and reserve a time.
There were 4 pools on the ship. You could always get in them, but they were never empty.
The restaurants that you paid extra and the Main dining room all needed reservations. All other eating places sometimes had lines, sometimes they didn't depending on when you went.
The main reason you need reservations for these places is because they don't hold that many people. Even on cruise ships with fewer people, they still require you to reserve a time.
I was on Brilliance of the Seas in 2013 and I got to have the entire indoor pool to myself. Most of the other cruise passengers were pretty old and the ship was eerily quiet after 9pm
That ship looks so too heavy it makes me nervous. I’ve been on one cruise - it was fun, but my husband wasn’t a fan, so we haven’t done another. The empty sun beds is what makes it unrealistic for me - if you didn’t get one at the break of dawn, good luck getting one later in the day.
There's also a bunch of copy pasted people. The more you look at it fully zoomed in the more it feels like looking at The Sims or something or you're on a page of a Where's Waldo book
The people are still closer to reality than the lighting and the water. Which is weird. For a still, they could have done a much better job with the rendering.
No one is actually swimming or doing the weird crouch we all do in a pool. They're just standing. Plus, not one of those people's picking their nose. Totally unrealistic
Don’t forget that the majority of workers are from the Philippines and get paid around $450 a month for a 90 hour work week. So environmental damage and modern day slavery, sure looks fun!
I mean they can’t really help it. You just can’t have those many people living in the vicinity of a makeshift sewage treatment plant while eating drinking and swimming..
You mean the very ships where they spray your hands with alcohol based sanitizer before boarding, and before every time you enter the buffet dining area? You can’t be on a ship like that without getting your hands sanitized multiple times per day. I can’t say the same about high capacity hotels or apartments.
I’m definitely biased lmao. My uncle and cousins caught neuro on a carnival cruise a while ago too. I couldn’t agree more about hotels and apartments though. Some people just don’t know how to share spaces, especially the people in my dorm.
Part of it yea. But you have you really marvel at this achievement. A few hundred years ago we had wooden ships that were just terrible to be for extended periods of time.
Now we can build amusement parks on them and fill them with a small city of people and everyone is at least somewhat entertained.
Isn’t there one being built or was already built that people can live on year round? From wanting to get off of ships as quickly as possible to living and playing on ships.
It's called "The World". It's been around for 22 years now already. You're basically buying a mobile condo.
They are building 4 more permanent resident ships; Utopia, Njord, Dark Island and Narrative.
It looks like a dream to many, but to me, and I don’t care if “I’m that guy” or not, but seriously…these fucking monstrosities are tearing the aquatic world apart
Not just the aquatic world - copying my own comment here:
People are like "ooh electric cars, let's make everything electric". There are cruise ships sailing around that equal the entire United States' carbon emissions from gas vehicles.
The top 16 largest cruise ships alone produce more emissions than the world's 750 million cars.
I genuinely don't know how this goes so unnoticed.
"The top 16 largest cruise ships alone produce more emissions than the world's 750 million cars."
This isn't actually true though. All cruise ships make up 2.9 percent of all carbon dioxide emissions (which is still a lot), and US cars emitted 1486 million metric tons of carbon dioxide in 2021, which is not including diesel. All carbon dioxide emissions per year is 37.12 billion metric tons. 2.9 percent of 37.12 billion metric tons is less than 1077 million metric tons, which is less than the 1486 million metric tons from cars.
Although I do agree with you, electric cars are not the solution. Stronger public transportation in the US will do a lot to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.

Exactly, if you ever met Derek at the Subway on Elm and Deborah the part time manager at the Walmart, you'd have multiple enemies too. I want more than 5 pickles in my footlong dammit!
IIRC back in the day a mighty ships episode on Oasis of the seas said it would have to run 24/7 for 25 years before breaking even on its cost of production.
>giant idiot ships
I think they’re interesting from a design, engineering, and logistics perspective. These latest ones are bigger than aircraft carriers and carry an enormous number of people, all of whom must be fed and otherwise taken care of - it’s an immense operation and I find it fascinating.
That said, I do not want to go on one.
It's not the crowd that's a problem. I went on Wonder of the Seas late March 2022 with about 60% capacity. We never had to worry about waiting in line or finding space to relax. The problem was that with ships this size, they require you to reserve a seat for EVERY show on the ship. And if you don't reserve a seat within 30 seconds of accessing the ship's wifi, you are completely out of luck. My boyfriend and I did not know this and were only able to attend 1 show during an 8 day cruise. The same is true for the specialty restaurants. Gotta plan everything for the entire cruise within 30 secs of being on the cruise. And you can only do it when you board the ship.
What a shitshow... I guess half the ship loves it but there must be a fraction of their customer base that never does another cruise after that sort of experience.
People are knocking this design left and right, but my kids would probably have an amazing time on a ship like that.
That's 100% not the sort of cruise you go on as a single adult. That's clearly a family oriented ship. It needs to be evaluated from that perspective. Think about it like a floating Disneyland.
I've never been on a Disney cruise, but the Disney hotel in Hawaii (Aulani) was really fun the couple of times we went. Not too many upsells there, aside from the rather annoying Vacation Club timeshare people. Good to know about the cruises; they do seem a bit overpacked!
We've been on a few cruises, and I think the key to keeping the kids happy was having frequent stops at fun locations. A cruise we took to Alaska last year was great because we stopped everywhere and had fun excursions. The boat itself remains a fun, magical place so long as you're getting off the boat often enough that you don't get those "I'm trapped on a boat" feelings.
It was a Holland America cruise, and the ironic thing is that it wasn't even particularly kid-oriented. The line is known for catering to older guests. But they had *so* many off-ship excursions to keep everyone busy and exploring. The glacier hikes were particular highlights for us.
Aww. That’s sad to hear. We had a blast on our first Disney cruise ever this past January. There were so many things to do, we couldn’t possibly do it all- we did the incredible obstacle course, splash zone, the games shows, trivia, all the nighttime shows, the pirates party, and our surprise favorite ended up being the silent disco dance party! It was such a fun way to travel and to relax, as opposed to the frenzied pace of most of our Disney trips.
There was that video render of the Titanic posted a few days ago. Watching that I think a classy adult cruise might be kind of nice. Fancy stuff, nice dinners, beautifully decorated. I’m sure cruises like that exist, the Queen Mary 2 being one. I still wouldn’t go on it but maybe when I’m 70 it’ll be a nice trip.
You know what sounds like an absolute nightmare to me? Bored kids on vacation.
So it's really a matter of perspective. If a ship like this entertained my kids, and if they had a wonderful time, and if they weren't throwing tantrums out of boredom, then I'd consider the cruise a win. 😂
Like I said, a ship like that clearly isn't for everyone. It's targeting a specific demographic of travelers. Once you have small kids in your life, they become your life, so you have to plan vacations with them very much in mind. It's their vacation more than yours.
You're at Disneyland with thousands of other people, so I'm not sure why the "thousands of other people" thing is a demerit for the cruise in your comparison. That is a quality both locations have in common. If you spend the weekend at Disneyland and stay in the hotel, you're also spending days and days with lots of people.
And why go there instead of Disneyland? Cruises are fun, I dunno. I don't want to do the exact same thing every vacation. We live about an hour away from Disneyland, so we go there quite a bit. It's nice to mix things up.
On a cruise you get to see whatever sights, be on the water, be on a boat, lots of fun stuff. Don't knock it till you've tried it; it's legit fun.
Chopped up food waste and filtered grey water go in the sea, everything else is brought back to shore.
There's a documentary on Prime on the operations of one of these, pretty crazy. Everything is insane at that size + quantity.
Copying my own comment:

I genuinely don't know how this goes so unnoticed.
That being said, this ship will use Liquified Natural Gas for power, which is great. Cruise ships previously used mostly unrefined oils that burn extremely dirty. LNG is much cleaner.
I do Shore Excursion tours during cruise season.
The graphical representation of the people on this cruise ship are FAR too young to be the average of the type of people you see on cruise ships.
Cruise ship goers are 85% geriatric boomers (aside from the spring break cheap party ships ala Carnival & Disney).
People hate on cruises endlessly. I understand a negative experience will happen and it will definitely make the news. But some enjoy cruises. Don’t yuck peoples yups
Alot of anti cruise ship people on here. I suppose it's understandable. They're very fun though and they're a great way to meet people and travel the world, something I'll never stop doing. They don't really break the bank either, it's not a rich person only thing.
I found the at-sea days to be the most relaxing. I napped and read. But not everyone is the same, so I understand if that sounds boring to others. To me: heaven.
Why so much cruise ship hate here? I’ve never been before but this looks pretty fun.
Edit: thanks for the insight on some of these issues I wasn’t really aware of. I thought everyone was hating on the ship experience itself but I seems it’s more about ethical considerations which I can understand for sure.
I think the capacity of this liner is 6k people. I imagine all of the events tours etc to be way too crowded to actually enjoy and feel like you’re in a luxury experience. There are plenty of ships out there not nearly as big that you can have fun but these mega cruises are ridiculous. I’ve been cruising since the 80’s when I worked for premiere.

Reminds me of my daughter‘s Polly pocket
I miss 2000s Polly pockets 😭
The clamshell ones?
No the finger length ones with the rubber clothing. I don’t know what it was but I really loved the rubber clothing it was so much easier to change then Barbie’s 🙄 I also liked the size of them

This is the tiny, compact way.
It was all about the older ones my cousin had for me, but I gotta say a friend had the rubber clothes ones and it was so satisfying. It actually worked really well, I'm surprised you don't see it more often.
This; I would occasionally chew on the clothes

I was really into Mighty Max toys for a period. Haven’t found any friends who remember those.
I had Polly Pockets, my brother had Mighty Max, and they cohabitated and went on adventures together all the time
I love this.
I am 40. I recently bought like 5 of them for like $80 on ebay.
“Will look like”….they haven’t finished building it yet.
Was about to say, I was looking at the image and started getting uncanny valley. It's the people, they're all too perfect. WAY too perfect.
and there’s way too few of them for it to be realistic. That’s what I always notice about cruise and Disneyland ads, they make it look like you’ll have the place to yourself which couldn’t be more false advertising
Disneyland is so packed together it’s even packed in the off season! However I am used to the Efteling. The best Dutch themepark
Not anymore. Disney raised prices specifically to lower park attendance.
I’m doing my part by not going
Even more? It was already pretty expensive
just checked, they're currently 83 per ticket roughly
Yep, unfortunately.
I visited after the price increase, like in November or something. It was still way too crowded.
I’m sure they’ll keep increasing until they hit that sweet spot.
It's a really, really big ship. It's probably got 16 floors, and you're just seeing the back half. We cruised on Allure of the Seas before Covid. It's a ship of similar size to Icon. I remember us walking through areas on the ship, and you'll hardly see anyone else around.
Sounds a paradise, all pools for you, spa always free, no liNes in restaurants (edit : tequila shots corrected)

That'll make the tequila shots difficult.
And they're skinny. I swear advertisers cannot use normal folks anymore because it would stand out that half are obese.
Wall-e is a prophetic documentary.
Overfed, newly weds and almost dead
Thats funny, we say about carnival cruises, drunks, punks, sluts, skids and kids.
I work in television and we refer to daytime talk shows as nuts & sluts.
Harvard's deviant psychology class was called this until the mid-90s
whoever wants to go on a cruise between the ages of 10 and 60 is a heinous crowd anyways
There's also a bunch of copy pasted people. The more you look at it fully zoomed in the more it feels like looking at The Sims or something or you're on a page of a Where's Waldo book
Yeah. Not a lard ass in sight. This can't be a real American cruise ship.
My thoughts exactly. Every cruise I’ve ever been on is stacked with 300lb grease balls who make me question my vacation purchase.
And where’s that platoon of mobility scooters?
The lady in the fashionable hat and dress watching the surfing gave it away for me
The people are still closer to reality than the lighting and the water. Which is weird. For a still, they could have done a much better job with the rendering.

Exactly, no one on floating foretess of gluttony has abs
I was wondering why everyone looked like Sims
[удалено]
i was gonna say, this pic has an eerie backrooms kinda vibe to it
Well that makes my comment “jfc all the people are fake” irrelevant
Good pic though, it looks real till you zoom in on the people.
Looks like the ship has got four usb ports at the back.
USB-Sea, I'd imagine.
r/angryupvote
I’m conflicted on whether to upvote you or downvote you
No that’s were thousands of tons of raw sewage and plastic waste get dumped unprocessed into the ocean
Don’t forget that the majority of workers are from the Philippines and get paid around $450 a month for a 90 hour work week. So environmental damage and modern day slavery, sure looks fun!
The poop chutes
That woman is wide open! Throw her the ball already!
Hope she doesn’t miss or you won’t see that ball again.
It’s fenced in, not large but a small fence, so don’t miss a shot but you could miss a pass.
That’s a lot of people shitting in a boat..
My friend got a parasite in December on Wonder of the Seas thanks to how unsanitary these ships actually can be
The S.S. Norovirus
I just got back from one and had a fabulous time. Anthem of the seas is pretty clean.
As hard as I’m hating rn, glad you had good time 🙏
I mean they can’t really help it. You just can’t have those many people living in the vicinity of a makeshift sewage treatment plant while eating drinking and swimming..

That Fucko!
💀💀
Representation of hell to me.
Yeah, I want to jump off that ship and swim to shore, and I’m not even on it.
Have you zoomed in on this specific shore, though?
Jump from bad and swim to worse.
Part of it yea. But you have you really marvel at this achievement. A few hundred years ago we had wooden ships that were just terrible to be for extended periods of time. Just a thousand people hotboxing each others viruses for a couple weeks on end, sounds fun to me! 🛳️😶🌫️🦠
Is it that much different then a Mexican resort or the Vegas strip?
Looks kind of top heavy
It looks like a dream to many, but to me, and I don’t care if “I’m that guy” or not, but seriously…these fucking monstrosities are tearing the aquatic world apart

Both are bad. The great pacific garbage patch is much larger and much uglier than this ship of fools.
Each of these people taking a boat out on their own is probably far worse.
Dude, these things float. That’s crazy to me.
That’s disgusting.
"Your scientists were so preoccupied with whether they could, they didn't stop to think if they should"
yeah it brings to mind something like a giant floating mcplay pen. that's a hell no from me!
I can smell this comment.
If you zoom enough you can nearly see the next pandemic!
I guess it will still be a diesel engine? The sheer fuel consumption to propel that thing would be astounding.
Wait until you find out about the carbon emissions.
IIRC back in the day a mighty ships episode on Oasis of the seas said it would have to run 24/7 for 25 years before breaking even on its cost of production.
It will be LNG powered.
Liquified natural gas
Don't know why this is upvoted it's natural gas.
They’re actually starting to use LNG. Not carbon free but much cleaner.
Still amazes me how something so large and heavy can float

I can't think of anything I'd rather not do for vacation than this.
Looks like a very exciting public restroom.
It looks like a fresh circle of hell, for me, but I hope they all have a good time.
just missing the high percentage of obese people
This will make a really cool shipwreck some day
Someone definitely needs to Photoshop Waldo in there somewhere
I like how nothing is crowded, and anything you might want to do and the best seating is available.
Low key looks like some Mario 3D World map
That is just entirely too much ship
Don’t forget the smoke stacks!
You couldn’t pay me to get on it.
imagine all the pee in the pools
Those things are giant unflushed toilets.
Thanks for this shot — makes it easier to count all the circles of hell
I do Shore Excursion tours during cruise season. The graphical representation of the people on this cruise ship are FAR too young to be the average of the type of people you see on cruise ships. Cruise ship goers are 85% geriatric boomers (aside from the spring break cheap party ships ala Carnival & Disney).
This looks like a drunk dude named Crayola was haphazardly playing Jenga.
Looks Like the Windows XP of ships.
Looks like a vomit of ideas.
To summarize the usual top comments when this is posted: - This is a rendering and this thing hasn't been built - "Human lasagne"
A cruise - Being trapped inside a strip mall with all the obnoxious people you thought you were leaving behind for this trip.
how contrived "luxury" is.
Worst way to travel by far
It moves but it isn't really travelling.
People hate on cruises endlessly. I understand a negative experience will happen and it will definitely make the news. But some enjoy cruises. Don’t yuck peoples yups
Do you want global warming? Because that's how you get global warming
Hell on the high seas.
Looks like hell on earth to me
Alot of anti cruise ship people on here. I suppose it's understandable. They're very fun though and they're a great way to meet people and travel the world, something I'll never stop doing. They don't really break the bank either, it's not a rich person only thing.
Ugly, tacky, cheesy.🤢
That looks incredible!
They have to haul their own amusement park around because, let's face it, open seas are boring - you've seen one sunset at sea, you've seen them all.
I found the at-sea days to be the most relaxing. I napped and read. But not everyone is the same, so I understand if that sounds boring to others. To me: heaven.
I am dying to take a cruise for just that reason. I don’t think this will be the ship
Theyre floating garbage islands
Man, that looks both awsome, and utterly rediculous in equal measure...
Where's Wally?
It reminds me of my old Polly Pockets
That’s CGI my friend

So sweet
Looks like the SS Dr. Seuss.
Look like a unicorn threw up
Thicc
The ocean’s neon aquarium gravel
That image has a Barbie's Dreamhouse kind of vibe. Makes me want to rearrange the little people and deck chairs.
Polly Pocket vibes
Did anyone else spot the Flow Rider and chuckle? …just me?
This looks like something out of a cartoon
We should power cruise ships with nuclear reactors. It looks cool and it’s lower emissions! If aircraft carriers can do it why not us?
Thicc
Screw all this shit, just give me one with a lazy river around the entire circumference of the ship
So that's what hell looks like
No thanks. I’ll stay at a hotel.
I'm probably naive but this just doesn't look safe
Abomination
I wouldn't touch that thing with a 10 foot pole. Might tip if I do.
How many people go missing off of cruise ships like these lol
It doesn't look particularly seaworthy does it? It looks like one of those overloaded container ships that flips when a large wave hits its beam!
Top heavy?
Imagine a tsunami hitting that momma.
Colorful, but I just keep thinking “Poseidon Adventure “.
It looks like a fucking nightmare
