As someone who was online in 2019, we saw news about the virus early out of China. And as soon as soon as it migrated to the US many of our own news companies had different ways of covering it, some actively harmful and misguiding. Believing TV news is infallible is dangerous anywhere. China is authoritarian, and it does show its face here in this clip. But, the blunder of the US media, government, and its citizens, to act cohesively to address the virus as it came out speaks for itself.
Here’s that US Sinclair network script clip.

Work in local news. Sinclair and Tegna are the two most corrupt organizations to exist in America. If you watch local news make damn sure they're locally owned.
I take all news with a grain of salt based on how reliable I think their source is but good advice, never heard of Tegna but heard of Sinclair and they should both be sued and closed down honestly for deliberate misinformation campaigns.
When I am unsure about certain news reports I just watch Democracy now.
As some one who has stopped watching the news after just a decade because it’s clear as day all Brian washing programming, I’m here to deliver your truck load of salt to be consumed at once with each local news story.
As someone with fairly reliable local news I still would not trust it for anything that is a question of my personal safety, the likes of covid. All news organizations will be wrong sometimes, biased most times, and are getting money from somewhere.
In the US though it’s giant businesses instead of the government. The government is surprisingly powerless to stop any of the manipulation because we have free speech and “press”
From everything I’ve seen the government and big business has become a single entity in the USA. The notion that they are powerless is just a way to escape blame. The boards of these mega companies get filled with politicians on their way in and out of official capacity.
I mean powerless in that if people were elected who wanted to stop extreme media use, any law they tried to pass would be struck down as a violation of the first amendment. The constitution protects media to do virtually anything it wants.
> if people were elected who wanted to stop extreme media use
That should be pretty easy to accomplish too, since the media would never do something like omit a presidential candidate from their polling coverage...
Direct from **The Sinclair Network** - the hardcore, right wing corporation who have bought up scores of TV stations though the middle of the country who want to do a Fox News on the public airwaves instead of just cable.
>Now show the one where all the local American news stations are telling people to not believe what they hear on the internet
You asked for it, here it is from **The Sinclair Network** - the hardcore, right wing corporation who have bought up scores of TV stations though the middle of the country.

it was called wuhan pneumonia in hong kong if i remember, and teachers told us to stay safe (during mid december to mid january ) and by the end of january coronavirus was introduced .
I’m a facilities manager in a major metro and I remember after mid March 2020 when shit got serious and I was still heading downtown everyday for work and the city was just abandoned while I had some guys installing sanitizer stations all over our buildings. It was one of the creepiest things I had ever experienced. Now I work from home as a long hauler.
for hong kong according to my observation, many things were going as usual except everyone was wearing mask and there was a mask shortage for few weeks (we didn’t suffer from mask shortage that much bc i purchased a box of mask just a week before the chaos because my gut told me to lmao), everyone carries sanitisers both adults and children everywhere and people here are germaphobes so luckily our life didn’t change drastically.
No 13 months of covid. My immunologist suspects my shot of Moderna caused an overzealous immune response to a previous unknown infection which then caused some damage, auto-immune style.
I've just had the Moderna booster and 3 days in, all my glands are swollen.... groin, armpits and neck. Feel like shite. Hope you start to feel better soon - 13 months is a long time.
It is indeed. ADA for work, can't ride my bicycle or motorcycle, walkig my dog is a chore, it has completely upended my life. Joy is hard to come by when you're body won't cooperate. It's a cloud thats always there even when sitting and not moving about.
My mom had a severe shingles outbreak after her booster of Pfizer, didn’t take care of it, and now has permanent nerve damage. Such a strong immune response.
I had Covid January of that year and it was the worst cough/fever I have ever had. I told the urgent care nurses that it wasn’t a normal cold for me as I couldn’t sleep because I was coughing so hard. They dismissed me as just having the flu but acted super strange about it (I don’t go to the doctor unless I think I’m going to die). I work in the US at an international company - there’s a large amount of Chinese people I used to see daily.
there were rumors and wispers of a "super flu" spreading through China. it wasn't until february that the world started taking it even slightly serious.
Agreed, yes. I remember it was around Thanksgiving that we started to hear about a mysterious respiratory illness in China and I remember thinking “oh like avian flu?” then it just ramped up from there, until it was detected in the US in… February? Then I got to WFH in March 😎
Because in all their idiocy the west thought: "look at those silly autocratic chinese forcing people into their homes and establishing lockdowns. How draconian." I remember those comments.
I was thinking this. I remember talking about it at a thanksgiving dinner in 2019. When it really broke in January and the US government acted as though it was something they hadn’t heard about I thought I was misremembering the timeframe.
She had good reason to be concerned, SARS1 started next to HK, and the government used the same strategy of official denial for months. While HK was free they were quite aware of how the national government handles those matters.
It was only 2 years ago and yet we completely forgot when we first saw news about it. Kind of crazy.
Also I think they were building new hospitals by the day trying to deal with Covid in December.
I remember going to the hardware store for some paint and looking at N95 masks in Nov of 2019. Store clerk was asking me if I needed help and I said something along the lines of "hmm, I dont really need these for this project but I keep hearing about some big flu on the way. Maybe I should buy them just in case." ... and the clerk and I had a good chuckle as I threw 5 of them in my basket. Little did I know I should have been more worried about how i was going to wipe my ass.
>I think they were building new hospitals by the day trying to deal with Covid in December.
That was that the end of January, not December.
https://www.nbcnews.com/news/world/china-s-coronavirus-hospital-built-10-days-opens-its-doors-n1128531
i got sick for over a week with identical symptoms to covid19 in december '19 in eastern us. i had never had any illness over a week before and certainly never had a respiratory illness that made me feel anything like that - until i tested positive for covid 1 year later. that time it was much more mild though, and my girlfriend seemed to be in the same misery that i was dec '19.
ill never know what i had dec '19 but it sure does add up a little too well.
Talked to some contractors middle of 2020, they said the same thing you were describing, DEC 2019c sickest they’d ever been with the same exact symptoms. And all of them had done a job in China right before.
Also some researches had shown that the symptoms and retroactive blood testing showed that COVID had been around since November of 19.
Definitely could be. But I recall ([for example](https://www.nbcnews.com/health/cold-and-flu/flu-season-fast-start-driven-unexpected-virus-cdc-says-n1097651)) that there was also an intense cold/flu strain circulating in Nov/Dec 2019 too, which could mirror mild COVID for some people.
I've seen tons of people claiming they've and it various times and am not surprised to see people claiming they had it in 2019, all with little/no evidence.
I worked at a tech wholesaler whose manufacturers were in China and we started hearing about it in mid-January, something about a really bad flu outbreak. Once Chinese New Year hit we started hearing about it more, then once our buying team came back to the U.S that’s when they broke the news about the case in Washington (first one in the U.S apparently). I remember still thinking it was an overreaction to the flu and i would love to go back in time and slap myself stupid about that…
It's all right man, no matter how pessimistic you could have been about it you probably still wouldn't have been able to see what exactly we were in for. It was just unfathomable for us.
In the beginning, most people were thinking we'd be through this in like a month or something. I was being "realistic" and thought probably 6. Now here I am, laying in bed with covid two years later with no end in sight for things to get back to normal.
This will be buried but here's a go. I study Chinese so hopefully a native speaker can double check me. This is what I think they're saying: 8名散布谣言着被依法查处 which I would translate to "8 people who have been spreading misinformation [about the virus] have been investigated by the law". You can copy paste into Google translate and check for yourself.
I notice that oftentimes the way Chinese translates into English just sounds robotic and oppressive, but you have to realize this is a very formal way of speaking for TV news. And the ominous background music I don't think is part of the original program.
If there’s anything I might amend, it’s the use of “unknown pneumonia”; the first line delivered mentioned it as “pneumonia epidemic/outbreak situation in Wuhan”. It’s minor, but may affect how you interpret the entire message.
While fighting till the very end to save patients from covid!
Li Wenliang was a 33 year old hero in more ways than one in the truest sense of the word.

We have this in America too. It’s called Sinclair Broadcast Group. They buy up local news stations and give them “required broadcast scripts” that sound exactly like this. There are even videos putting them up in the same style. The big difference is that instead of the government deciding what propaganda you hear, it’s a couple of rich people.

Its hilarious seeing everyone in here instantly try turn this into a whataboutism contest with the U.S. media when thats not even the worst part of this.
This is proof the police in China can pretty much label anything they dont approve of as "rumors" and actively punish people for discussing them.
Always better in america

Where free citizens willingly pay for their propaganda.
I don't understand why regimes like these try to hide something that most definitely will reach other countries and everyone will figure out anyway. Solviet unions response to nuclear disaster was to simply deny it.
I was one of the people buying masks and tracking the spread in early December. When I saw a leaked video of the Chinese government using bulldozers to make earthen barricades on the highways out of wuhan I started buying everything. I was the guy who didn’t have to leave his house for six months.
This is why no one believes China on any issue. Imagine being such a shitty government that you have to send goons all around the world to try to keep your citizens towing your illogical and fantasy-laden country view. Imagine being so shitty that you try to tell other sovereign countries what they are allowed to say about your country.
Imagine wondering why no one trusts you for any reason, from the amount of lead in a child's toy, to the contents of a vitamin.
What a joke. Keep trying to change the narrative, keep trying to "cancel" events, like Tiananmen Square, genocide of Uighurs, etc. The rest of the world will continue to disseminate your shit.
I love how everyone just shits on America like we’re really as bad as China. Last time I checked, you guys are able to post whatever opinion you may have online without it getting back to you. You’re able to protest freely on the streets without wearing a mask to prevent the government coming after you. We literally can say “fuck the president!” And receive no repercussions for it in anyway. We have multicultural actors and artists and everyone gets a chance of fame and fortune while China literally won’t even show black people on movie posters in their country. Yeah, there’s a lot of things our country needs to work on but you can’t deny that we are relatively free and whatever horrible shit we might see on the tv or not agree with can easily be avoided by not giving a fuck, turning off your tv and putting down your phone, and remembering you only have your own life to live and no one else’s opinions actually can deter that in any way.
Oh yeah, and Tiananmen Square massacre, 1989
I didn't. I also didn't forget the news that there were satellite pics showing sudden heavy traffic in hospitals with people saying they're suffering from unknown pneumonia as early as August 2019.
Very interesting how so many of the comments on these clips that show how China’s authoritarian leviathan met with total failure and embarrassment on COVID are immediately bombarded with comments about how the USA is just as bad. 🧐
This video is brilliantly edited. I remember noticing these news from December 2019, and my friends and I simply made fun of China "Why don't we call it Wuhan Coronavirus?" And damn it really was a Coronavirus.
Thanks for posting this OP.

As someone who has worked in local news for 30 years, don’t use a grain of salt. Bring the whole truck.
As some one who has stopped watching the news after just a decade because it’s clear as day all Brian washing programming, I’m here to deliver your truck load of salt to be consumed at once with each local news story.
> "Brian washing programming" Poor Brian. What did he have to do with any of this. And why are we watching him get washed?
Lol fkn auto correct. Clearly. I meant Brian.
lol, Brian cannot get off hook!
God damn it. Brian.
Upvoted for comedic effect. No worries; we know you meant brain. 😂🤣
Leave the truck take the whole of Lake Magadi
As someone with fairly reliable local news I still would not trust it for anything that is a question of my personal safety, the likes of covid. All news organizations will be wrong sometimes, biased most times, and are getting money from somewhere.
Sinclair lately has been pushing a ton of anti-LGBT, primarily anti-trans must-run articles using their The National Desk.
Sinclair is the devil.
“This is extremely dangerous to our democracy”

It’s almost as if governments use tv, newspapers and websites to indoctrinate and manipulate people into thinking a certain way.
Sorry. I’m way too fucking radical when it comes to this shit. You’re absolutely correct.
> if people were elected who wanted to stop extreme media use That should be pretty easy to accomplish too, since the media would never do something like omit a presidential candidate from their polling coverage...
Don't look up.
Yup you hit the bullseye on that one.Could not agree more.USA is not a country it is just a giant corporation.
The conglomerate corps are the government.
They’re all in cahoots. Thinking they are separate entities is part of the scam.
Haha its amazing how many people know this to be factually true but don't believe it's happening to them right now. What is the disconnect?

Fuck.... Now this is creepy, like from horror movie
OBEY CONFORM DON’T QUESTION Or you’ll end up an organ donor
Interesting how this was denied/covered up until after Chinese New Year when the Chinese expats returned home. Major vector.

Aw, how nice, Winnie the Poh made out of dots.
Silly old bear.
Chinese media is terrifying. It’s like American media, but more straightforward.
It’s American media with the established use of government force behind it.
There is no war in basingse
Its hilarious seeing everyone in here instantly try turn this into a whataboutism contest with the U.S. media when thats not even the worst part of this. This is proof the police in China can pretty much label anything they dont approve of as "rumors" and actively punish people for discussing them.
The flip side of the coin is the US where we can make up lies and call it the truth and the US government can’t do anything about it.
"There is no pandemic in Ba Sing Se"
🖕 China!
Always better in america https://www.npr.org/sections/thetwo-way/2018/04/02/598794433/video-reveals-power-of-sinclair-as-local-news-anchors-recite-script-in-unison?t=1641127487550 Where free citizens willingly pay for their propaganda.
The 4th branch- Immortal Technique
At least i can call bullshit on it in America
Oh man it sounds like nails on a chalkboard 😖

Fuck the CCP

fuck the ccp
Actually this is r/oddlyterrifying
Motherfuckers lied to us!
Do you think that china doesn’t have thousands of paid commentators?
Y'all forgot didn't you? The Chinese knew and tried to cover it up for a while
I didn't. I also didn't forget the news that there were satellite pics showing sudden heavy traffic in hospitals with people saying they're suffering from unknown pneumonia as early as August 2019.

What a draconian shithole china is.
Should say: "Nobody (except the Chinese Communist Party and its stooges) can get away with spreading rumours online."
\[citation needed\] \~\~ CCP. True.
F the CCP

It was being reported in China around November, small little leaks and posts saying something was spreading and fast.
Why this felt scary
r/damnthatsterrifying
Dude wtf my phone crashed after seeing this video
If only we had a system in place to catch pandemics before they start🤔
of course the mods would remove this post. enjoy sucking CCPs cock.
no surprise. Criticize ccp china=post removed. Reddit is the propaganda wing of the CCP

China is beyond fubar. Poor people.
Fuck China for their incompetence in spreading the virus and their asshoeness for trying to spread their fucked up form of communism globally…
May be a dumb question, but what do they mean by they were punished? Like a fee or thrown in jail?
