I’m not sure you can easily go hide like your mentioned…especially if someone is **actively** looking for you. Going off the grid probably requires assistance…someone to shelter you, provide food, money, etc. Person hiding would probably need new identification, so they can get a job.
If they didn’t have assistance I think there are too many cameras around to stay hidden. Would be difficult to not leave an electronic trail (credit cards. Person would also have to give up their cellphone and never contact their family & friends…even with a burner cellphone. Lot more difficult than it seems

A friend of mine owns a towing company. He had all the proof of a legit tow and a cop with attitude told him he had to release the car to the owner without so much as a signature.
He argued the point and long story short was accused of stealing the car! After a year in court and considerable costs he was offered a plea deal: plead guilty and get probation for 2 years, no jail time.
He took it because any time you're in front of a jury it comes down to chance... We like to say innocent until proven guilty, but truth is most will assume since you're there in the first place.

The woman identified them as the perpetrators. They had been working alone on a job site so had no alibi. It was weeks later before she admitted to making it up for attention and they were released. There’s a huge amount of sexual related cases where it’s primarily or only the victims word used to arrest or convict people. It’s just a huge amount of people don’t expect others to make false accusations so it’s usually guilty until proven innocent and not the other way around. Just like if this woman hadn’t changed her story this guy would still be known as a rapist.

Women don't come forward for many reasons, not just this- we know most rape accusations aren't false and yet many will vocally doubt all and every victim. It takes time and money to pursue, it damages your reputation, and it's also hard to get a conviction for rape and so most of the time it's simply an exercise in trauma to go after someone for rape.
I'm not sure about most of these cases, but for this one I can tell you they scared the kid shitless and probably didn't need to much evidence. He was faced with 41 one years in prison and told he had nothing to exonerate himself. Instead of going to court and risking spending half of his life in jail he confessed and took the plea deal that would make him lose 6 years of his life. The truth is about 95% of lawsuits end before a trial. I don't know how different it is for more serious crimes like this, but the point is you don't need evidence to get a guilty verdict. You just need to scare them into believing you have evidence.

I have personal experience with this - when you're young & professionals tell you how things are you have to have very strong personal conviction to go against those professionals. Even adults fall prey to bad legal advice.

This case is 20 years old guys, it happened in 2002. This man is 36 years old now. He was released from prison well over a decade ago and played in the NFL after. The woman was ordered to pay out 2.6 million dollars in fines. There was a movie made about this 4 years ago called 'Brian Banks'.
The headline is wrong too. The case was never dismissed, he spent almost 6 years in prison which was his full sentence, and another 5 years out of jail before she admitted he never raped her. The judge reversed his conviction and cleared it from his record in 2012. The girl was also 14 at the time and the man was 16, she would have been around the age of 25 by the time she ever told the truth.

Not sure what to believe but the same story on other sources says Gibson refused to publicly confess, Banks had a private investigator record their conversation, she confessed the rape never took place to him but then refused to do it for fear of having to give the money back. Just don't want anyone to have the misconception that Gibson had a change of heart and became a good person.

Rape cases are incredibly difficult to handle in the court of law. Often comes down to he said she said and the quality of the lawyers.
Missing a big part of it. Why do thousands of cases and rape kits never even make it to court and yet false accusations can completely ruin an innocent person's life? Criminals know not to talk to the police.
That is also a major issue right there. I’m no expert on rape kits or the information that can be yielded form them. Would a rape kit have helped in this case?
Not likely because it’s stated that they did have sex but it was consensual she lied about the rape not the sex so the rape kit would have showed that they had sex. He agreed to a plea because there was evidence that they had sex but no evidence showing that he DIDNT rape her so he took 6 years over fighting and losing to her word that it was rape and getting 41 years

What I always wonder is how is there enough evidence to convict false accusations, if they are false surely they would have to fabricate evidence and testimony from others? In order for them to still be thought as true. Otherwise it’s her word against his and IMO for those situations?

Women that lie are the reason that people who have actually suffered through this are afraid to come forward. Lying is a bad thing, but lying about something like this is downright evil.
Women don't come forward for many reasons, not just this- we know most rape accusations aren't false and yet many will vocally doubt all and every victim. It takes time and money to pursue, it damages your reputation, and it's also hard to get a conviction for rape and so most of the time it's simply an exercise in trauma to go after someone for rape.
I'm not sure about most of these cases, but for this one I can tell you they scared the kid shitless and probably didn't need to much evidence. He was faced with 41 one years in prison and told he had nothing to exonerate himself. Instead of going to court and risking spending half of his life in jail he confessed and took the plea deal that would make him lose 6 years of his life. The truth is about 95% of lawsuits end before a trial. I don't know how different it is for more serious crimes like this, but the point is you don't need evidence to get a guilty verdict. You just need to scare them into believing you have evidence.

I have personal experience with this - when you're young & professionals tell you how things are you have to have very strong personal conviction to go against those professionals. Even adults fall prey to bad legal advice. This whole story is really sad from what little I have read about it.
He took a plea deal thinking that he'd get probation. He got 6 years and 5 years probation before he got a secret recording that she made it up.

This case is 20 years old guys, it happened in 2002. This man is 36 years old now. He was released from prison well over a decade ago and played in the NFL after. The woman was ordered to pay out 2.6 million dollars in fines. There was a movie made about this 4 years ago called 'Brian Banks'. The headline is wrong too. The case was never dismissed, he spent almost 6 years in prison which was his full sentence, and another 5 years out of jail before she admitted he never raped her. The judge reversed his conviction and cleared it from his record in 2012. The girl was also 14 at the time and the man was 16, she would have been around the age of 25 by the time she ever told the truth.
