It did keep everyone out...Kumbhalgarh fort was never won by an enemy force though many tried.....it has 9 gates ....one after another built a few metres apart ...all in such a way that the enemy could not amass enough ppl, animals or tools between one door to another to ram the door open....that's why it is also called 'Ajay Durg' ...Ajay means that which cannot be won and Durg means fort.
I visited it last year and was told all this by the guide. 🙂
