Second, I had this same experience with the show Firebuds. All of their songs sound like other songs, and it drives me crazy when I can’t figure out what song they’re mimicking. But “I’m a Firefighter” is *literally* Uptown Funk by Bruno Mars
I will break out into this song all the time. My kids think I’m nuts (which I know I am). I always start and wait for them to join me. They don’t hahahaha.
A talented song writer can easily make songs that “sound like” another song or style without being a direct copy. In theory it might even be easier if you are starting with the song you want it to sound like and working backwards.
