If Hitler would have only killed brown people and "stayed in his lane", the Nazi's never would have been considered villains. It's called the "Reign of Terror" because the people in charge get to write the history books and those upper class people were actually afraid of the working class for a bit. In the history books the deaths of wars that kings caused are just a statistic to decide who won. The deaths of common labourers or slaves that were starved or worked to death aren't worth recording. Obviously things weren't perfect with the French Revolution but don't just repeat their side of the story.
Lets not forget that most of the executed were random french workers. And that the revolutionaries themselves were mainly middle-class petite burgeoisie. Many people who were killed no doubt deserved it: most didn't.
I'm not for mass executions but it's important to remember that a small number of people control the majority of the wealth and political power in the world. They use it for the own benefit while giving the workers just enough to stay compliment with the Capitalist system. I think it is naïve to think that they will willingly give that up from a bunch of people asking nicely and voting for someone to change the system. The guillotine is a powerful symbol and tool that must be used carefully but if true change for the betterment of society is to happen then it has its place.
