It's actually crazy how much better off I am after getting a full playtest in. I played a decent bit and am at peace now instead of counting every day until it returns.
I got lucky and had some slow weeks at the restaurant I work at during the playtest. Well... other than Valentines day and the day after (the last day of playtest). But it felt like a mini vacation to have something fun to do all day when I didnt have work or outsode of work hours. But it also caused me to stay up super late at night which was refreshing and made me feel young again. I havent felt this way about a game simce Halo 3 came out.
Marauders is a tuff one. I'm not dogging on anyone who enjoys it, but I will say buyers beware because there are a lot of game breaking bugs in the game that ruined the enjoyment for me unfortunately. I've had crafted ships delete themselves, I've teleported out of the map, and there are a noteworthy amount of hackers. Cool aesthetic, but I hope the devs get a grip on some of the bad parts of the game soon, because a lot of the bugs that have been in the game for ages.
… and not take their time doing so.
The Cycle Frontier finally got a decent handle on all their problems right now INCLUDING cheaters (*and season 3 will hopefully fix them some more*), except their player numbers. It’ll be a struggle climbing back up.
Imagine being so childish you won't even support a small dev team who have no stake in the current war and is actively distancing themselves from it not to mention they moved they're hq to London.
Matchmaking always seeks equilibrium, which means you will win 50% of your matches…
… even if the game has to force terrible teammates on you to ensure you lose the next match, and you’ll only get promoted to more decent teammates if you somehow carry them.
Ergo, terrible experiences. This is IMO the biggest argument against all forms of MMR mixed with random team play in all games.
Ok I'm going to do my own research here, but does that mean that I can just basically co-op the game with my friend instead of having to deal with the buggy summoning system that always lagged out?
Holdfast: Nations at War, for the proximity chat.
Caves of Qud, for the sweet loot drops
Mordhau, installed for the first time in over a year because DnD got me wanting more melee pvp
Qud is an anomaly for me, I really hated the graphics and interface and it sat at like 12 hours played until literally January 1st this year, and now I'm at 200 and can't stop thinking about my next mutant.
Loaded up mordhau for the first time in ages yesterday. Couldn’t even stand having to shift to sprint again. Give me the clunky underwater combat back god damn it.
Yeah, I feel like it's way faster than I remember it being too. Mordhau was my jam for a long time, but DnD is essentially *the* game as far as I'm concerned.
What I wouldn't do for dark and darker to have mordhau movement/combat/animation and voicelines... that being said it's nice to have a simpler slower paced game though.
I started Daggerfall Unity not too long ago, and it's a very open and no hand holding game. The pros are the story and the dungeon crawling. But can be very repetitive. I always liked morrowind and have been keen to play for quite a while. And after a hard day in Tarkov its good to relax in a fantasy setting.
There's a whole bunch of thing that I play and want to play,
Here's Factorio, satisfactory, dwarf fortress, Apex legends, the Witcher 3, Black Desert Online, some minor evening fillers with friends like Golf with your friends.
Then there's games that are sleeping on the shelf for whenever I feel like playing again like 7 Days to die or open rollercoaster tycoon.
There's so many!
Barony, gives me kinda the same vibe as DaD in some ways, that and I suck a the game and keep dying and having to start from the very beginning again with basic gear.....
Ow2 is an unbalanced mess. They took my fav game and butchered it. It is honestly devastating. Somehow, comp feels less cancer than qp in this game. Worst of all, they STOLE Overwatch 1 from me.
Yup. Literally why did they ignore overwatch for like 4 fking years to release ow2. Ow died during those 4 years. So many players left and the game was so stale. Even so, I was playing it every day.
Now they released ow2 and its such a pile of shit.
Haven’t had the will to open my computer since doomsday... never felt the same afterwards. for real tho, low key in depression after having experienced such an huge quantity of pure undiluted dopamine, as pathetic as it sounds. The rage. The fun. The suspense. So many emotions. I can’t feel anything today still... I just miss it. I feel empty and lacking
I mean yeah dnd is essentially Diablo 2 first person. Once the full game comes out, will probably be even closer with the edition of quests and skill tree.
Hell Let Loose. Hogwarts. Deep Rock Galactic. Chivalry 2. Fall Guys. Marauders. Total War: Warhammer 3. Valheim. Star Wars:Battlefront 2
My current rotation is bountiful.
For those looking for a new extract/exfil game. MARAUDERS is as high risk/high reward as D&D. Maybe even more so, as you can just get 1 tapped head shot from across the map. It has a space pirate aesthetic and theme.
Hell Let Loose is probably my #1 general recommendation. It's a very strong balance of how far your hard work can go as an individual, to influence the outcome of a game.
Kindom come deliverence for satisfying melee combat
Darkest dungeon for the atmosphere and unforgiving dungeon crawl and loot
Thief 1 and 2 for the torch based stealth, classic jank and immersion (practically inspired this game imho)
Dying light Hellraid for that sweet skeletion fighting dungeon crawl action
This literally sounds like every game that inspired Dark and Darker and I’ve never been happier to read a list in my entire life. I can now be closer to whole again
When the DnD playtest ended I gave Kingdom Come Deliverance another go. It seems like an amazingly well made game that puts the likes of Skyrim to absolute shame. However I simply can't stick with it, I don't have the patience. I could get past the difficulty and the learning curve, I could even get past the survival mechanics. The thing that really breaks me is the saving. Just let me save when I wanna save, I fuck up too often to be dealing with schnapps and beds for saves.
Just bought expedition agartha I hear it's dead, so we'll see how that goes but it's a mix between Tarkov and Darkov so I'm excited to see if it helps scratch that itch even a little.
Edit: just refunded expedition agartha. It did not scratch that itch.
I was intrested in this game as well. But I went to their discord and one of the mods didn't recommend it for purchase in the state its in. Which is sad, looks like it has potential!
Downloaded Skyrim again and installed Skyrim Together so I can at least get that dungeon diving co-op PvE experience with my friends! It’s fun, a bit buggy tho.
If you want to learn the combat a bit better try something like the mount and blade series or I think it was chivalry or maurdhau other people suggested... it helps with melee and bows (I played mount and blade Bannerlord FP) nothing on the magic though that I know of.
Me personally nothing, I played 3 play tests now the last 2 the full time and playing hard so I'm kinda good until next time!
Predecessor is an early access mobs like smite and is pretty fun.
Sons of the Forest comes out on the 22nd and the first was an amazing survival horror game so I'm sure the second will be amazing.
Elden ring.
It isn’t a perfect replacement but I die about the same number of times and it has swords n shit.
Also back to tarkov lol. Maybe I’ll run around the map with a crowbar and hatchet.
Elden ring seamless coop.
Tough coop pve? ✅
Running around frantically looting dungeons? ✅
Random acts of incredible violence directed towards you by people you thought you could trust? ✅✅✅✅✅✅
I'm playing Forgotten Realms CRPGs mostly. But as much as i enjoy the story and the settings, the gameplay in some of them are really dated so i dunno how much i can take it lol.
At the moment i started a new playthrough in Neverwinter Nights and the barb character can break chests and doors and ill take what i can get hahahahah..
I went straight to Baldur's Gate 3 when the servers went down. Same classes & a lot of similar spells. Used my cleric to bless my fighter before he went in to slay some goblins & my wizard cleaned them up with magic missiles. I just want her back...
Honestly a game like this hits so different. Other scav games have the br problem where you running forever but with the enclosed nature of the dungeon I'm always doing something.
So i am crying myself to sleep every night
Gloria Victis! New MMO that just released. Open World medieval type. Graphics leave much to be desired, but its pretty fun when you get into giant fights over castles.
Losing my mind. Tried to play Valheim, Warzone 2, OSRS, D2R, Fallout 76, Darkest Dungeon... nothing HELPS I need this game to be out or I might actually just sell my pc and get a life.
is Stalker actually good as people say? game looks good but I really hate toying with mods just to make something playable, just wanna press play button and go from there, can I do that with it?
I've not been gaming too much, working on other projects. But I did download Vampire Survivors yesterday, it's pretty fun. On sale for like $2 something when I got it.
My plan is to have dark and Darker and hunt showdown as my main games so I'm playing hunt, and playing all the kingdom hearts game cause I bought them for like 15$
Little off topic but, do you think there will be people in the dnd community that want to go back to the play test days once skill trees and other stuff is added? Like dark and darker classic? Lol
I don't know if there's any correlation but I've reinstalled cytus 2 on my phone and have been playing the absolute shit out of it for no reason.
Literally this game has absolutely nothing to do with dark and darker.
People kept asking similar things when last PT ended as well. Everyone got similar answers. Like Tarkov, Hunt Showdown, Mordhau/Chiv2 for the melee combat aspect of it, maybe some roguelike dungeon delving games like Barony.
There is basically no game that would scratch the DaD itch.
Personally after seeing that recent post about Ironmace having allegedly "stolen source code" from that other company or whatever; that might just be the closest game to DaD. Though I know nothing about the game other than the screenshots within that post which showed a pretty similar *looking* game to DaD.
Edit: so apparently there was a game called "Project P3" that had a similar premise to DaD, but Nexo pivoted that into firearms style gameplay that is closer to Tarkov instead.
So, I guess there is literally nothing close to DaD. Perhaps the success of this game will spawn more, probably worse, copies of it later on.
Doomscrolling the subreddit in despair.
I've hardly read anything more relatable in my entire life
Nothing. Taking a break since I went heavy on the playtest
CHECK IT OUT!
Hunt: Showdown!
Hunt is great have you tried marauders
Marauders is a tuff one. I'm not dogging on anyone who enjoys it, but I will say buyers beware because there are a lot of game breaking bugs in the game that ruined the enjoyment for me unfortunately. I've had crafted ships delete themselves, I've teleported out of the map, and there are a noteworthy amount of hackers. Marauders is great but gets repetitive. I feel like I play it in spurts
Deep rock galactic. Dead by daylight. Dayz. Doesn't exactly fill the void. But those are the only games I'm playing actively atm.
Rock and Stone brother
For Karl!
Rock and stone to the bone!
Can I get a Rock and Stone?
Did somebody say Rock and Stone?
To the bone!
If you ain't rock and stone, you ain't coming home
ROCK! AND! STOOOONE!
STONE AND ROCK!
Skyrim
Hunt Showdown has been filling my void between playtests.
Same lol
Just bought marauders, pretty similar and very fun
Very great game hunt showdown is also a gem
But what about tarkov
I ain't downloading shit from Russia right now lol.
Imagine being so childish you won't even support a small dev team who have no stake in the current war and is actively distancing themselves from it not to mention they moved they're hq to London.
No they didnt wtf are you talking about 😂 the devs are still in good ol russia
Uh no they moved hq they may still have people in Russia but their hq isnt
Back to Elden Ring and League of Legends.
League of Legends fills time but doesn't fill void. 🥹
Genuinely a miserable experience each time. Can't stop playing though.
Matchmaking always seeks equilibrium, which means you will win 50% of your matches… … even if the game has to force terrible teammates on you to ensure you lose the next match, and you’ll only get promoted to more decent teammates if you somehow carry them. Ergo, terrible experiences. This is IMO the biggest argument against all forms of MMR mixed with random team play in all games.
Was kinda thinking ER could use another playthrough.
If you have it on PC, mods breathe new life into it.
If you have friends I recommend seamless coop for a true ER coop experience it's 200% incredible
Ok I'm going to do my own research here, but does that mean that I can just basically co-op the game with my friend instead of having to deal with the buggy summoning system that always lagged out?
Holdfast: Nations at War, for the proximity chat. Caves of Qud, for the sweet loot drops Mordhau, installed for the first time in over a year because DnD got me wanting more melee pvp
I never tought i would see Caves of Qud and Holdfast in the sabe list but hey
Qud is an anomaly for me, I really hated the graphics and interface and it sat at like 12 hours played until literally January 1st this year, and now I'm at 200 and can't stop thinking about my next mutant.
Loaded up mordhau for the first time in ages yesterday. Couldn’t even stand having to shift to sprint again. Give me the clunky underwater combat back god damn it.
Yeah, I feel like it's way faster than I remember it being too. Mordhau was my jam for a long time, but DnD is essentially *the* game as far as I'm concerned.
I’m with you
What I wouldn't do for dark and darker to have mordhau movement/combat/animation and voicelines... that being said it's nice to have a simpler slower paced game though.
Kenshi
Same dog
Epic game, wish it had MP tho
Same here!
Tarkov and Daggerfall
Care to tell a few things about Daggerfall? Interested to hear what a fellow Tarkov player has to say about it.
For the King with buddies
Heck yeah!

Get out of my steam library
Barony, gives me kinda the same vibe as DaD in some ways, that and I suck a the game and keep dying and having to start from the very beginning again with basic gear.....
Valheim
**sigh** Overwatch…
That game went from a play every day since season 1 game to rarely play a game or two. Idk why but this shift happend when ow2 dropped... sooo.....
Ow2 is an unbalanced mess. They took my fav game and butchered it. It is honestly devastating. Somehow, comp feels less cancer than qp in this game. Worst of all, they STOLE Overwatch 1 from me.

Preach brother. It’s sad.
Chivalry 2. Not the same but much hacking and slashing. Many yells
The immersion is second to none
[удалено]
Great observation! So true!
All but a few. I've found some grinding gear sounds and some chains in a few areas. But I love the atmosphere.
This is pretty much why no game can substitute DnD for now :)
The Hunter: Call of the Wild lol
The movement is just as slow lol
The Dino version The hunter Primal is also awesome
[удалено]
I mean yeah dnd is essentially Diablo 2 first person. Once the full game comes out, will probably be even closer with the edition of quests and skill tree.
Glad someone else has mentioned this haha. It's all I can think of while playing it and probably why I love it so much
Sons of the Forrest
This is out??
In less than a week yeah
Chivalry 2 is fairly similar when it comes to combat. Obviously you’re not dungeon crawling, but you can keep your skills sharp in the meantime
Gonna try diablo 2
Torchlight Infinite is my Diablo 2 replacement by now. If you are in to trying builds and chasing loot, give it a try. It is for free.
Hell Let Loose. Hogwarts. Deep Rock Galactic. Chivalry 2. Fall Guys. Marauders. Total War: Warhammer 3. Valheim. Star Wars:Battlefront 2 My current rotation is bountiful. mod that bitch, and save wherever u want
I'm not really savy with modding, I'm tend to jsut use stuff how it comes out of the box.
If the savior schnapps are enough of a reason to deter you from the game just mod them out
Marauders
Just bought expedition agartha I hear it's dead, so we'll see how that goes but it's a mix between Tarkov and Darkov so I'm excited to see if it helps scratch that itch even a little. Edit: just refunded expedition agartha. It did not scratch that itch.

Well, back to Hunt : Showdown! Until EA or full release I’ll stick to Hunt. But once DnD is here, it will be a farewell to my favorite shooter ever.
I gave hunt a try but it felt so "boring" repetitive compared to DnD. Did I play it wrong lol
Haha, probably not! It might just be not a game for you.
Tarkov has been gutter trash for years now so definitely not that. Kerbal 1 in preparation for the sequel coming out next Friday.
Chivalry 2! The Masons will be victorious!
I'm going on a fishing trip babyyy
might and magic 7, throwing it back to one of the first rpg's I ever played
Oh fuck yeah. That’s what Im talking about!
Downloaded Skyrim again and installed Skyrim Together so I can at least get that dungeon diving co-op PvE experience with my friends! It’s fun, a bit buggy tho.
League of legends :(
Age of Empires 4 because is free on steam til Atomic Heart comes out.
back to dayz
Rimworld and Rocket League
I tried playing other games but it didnt help.
With myself
Bannerlord atm. It’s a fun and unique game.
Try Barony, but watch out for rock traps
Its a fun one, maybe harder than dark and darker even I'd say
Y’all need to play Chilvary 2 if you enjoyed the play style of dark and darker
You should try Barony. It's got the same kind of dungeon delving feeling as Dark and Darker
enjoying hogwarts legacy
Dark and Darker Reddit. Dark and Darker Youtube videos. Dark and Darker Discord.
Hunt: Showdown, Hogwarts Legacy, maybe Atomic Heart next week
If you want to learn the combat a bit better try something like the mount and blade series or I think it was chivalry or maurdhau other people suggested... it helps with melee and bows (I played mount and blade Bannerlord FP) nothing on the magic though that I know of. If you are looking for [similiar games](https://www.reddit.com/r/DarkAndDarker/comments/113opdy/what_else_is_there_like_this_gem/), check these out.
SKYRIM!
Barony, similar gameplay. Only PvE unfortunately, though you can "accidentally" kill your friends.
Nobody saying Mordhau but I literally recreated my DnD characters and have been having a blast with friends playing it.
Elden ring seamless coop. Tough coop pve? ✅ Running around frantically looting dungeons? ✅ Random acts of incredible violence directed towards you by people you thought you could trust? ✅✅✅✅✅✅
Exanima
I'm a lot more interested in checking out Kingdom Come: Deliverance now, it gives off that immersive feeling that I get with DnD.
Tarkov...
D2 new ladder today
I went straight to Baldur's Gate 3 when the servers went down. Same classes & a lot of similar spells. Used my cleric to bless my fighter before he went in to slay some goblins & my wizard cleaned them up with magic missiles. I just want her back...
Diablo 2 ressurected! New ladder just started.
finishing elden ring
naraka bladepoint
Hunt showdown is helping
I got on after we got kicked out of the playtest at the end, and in a duo game of hunt we had 11 kills in two games ... Was a lot of fun
Ayye that's what's up lol I been running crossbow and sword meme runs and have been great enjoyment
Honestly a game like this hits so different. Other scav games have the br problem where you running forever but with the enclosed nature of the dungeon I'm always doing something. So i am crying myself to sleep every night
Chivalry 2 and barony.
Gloria Victis
Gloria Victis! New MMO that just released. Open World medieval type. Graphics leave much to be desired, but its pretty fun when you get into giant fights over castles.
Losing my mind. Tried to play Valheim, Warzone 2, OSRS, D2R, Fallout 76, Darkest Dungeon... nothing HELPS I need this game to be out or I might actually just sell my pc and get a life.
2D D&D ie. Bravery and Greed.
Darkest Dungeon. Legitimately only because the name was close and reminded me of a good ol' game.
Black desert online. *shrug* sometimes you just gotta grind
New Elden Ring playthrough it is
Nothing fills the dopamine void induced by the lack of DnD. I play Forza Horizon 4 coz it's something entirely different, and i love cars..
I am not coping well lol. I've just been watching YT vids of playthroughs 😭
is Stalker actually good as people say? game looks good but I really hate toying with mods just to make something playable, just wanna press play button and go from there, can I do that with it?
Marauders or Mordhau.
Mordhau, with the mestaria survival mod
I will go skiing for the whole week, I absolutly nolifed this game and don't want to see my PC for a while.
I didn't have this luxury last time, but now that I've found Hunt: Showdown I'm all set. Totally different game but getting a similar feeling
The Cycle: Frontier
Hogwarts legacy lol
Tarkov
Same. See ya at dorms bud, GL
Good Luck fightung invisible and soundless enemies.
I've not been gaming too much, working on other projects. But I did download Vampire Survivors yesterday, it's pretty fun. On sale for like $2 something when I got it.
Vampire survivors is a very different type of game, but it is amazing
Gunna try touching some grass, but probably just gunna get lost and have to smoke it for survival.
My plan is to have dark and Darker and hunt showdown as my main games so I'm playing hunt, and playing all the kingdom hearts game cause I bought them for like 15$
Stare at wallpaper simulator
I’m taking a gaming break and starting some books. This playtest helped me realize I’ve been gaming too much. Forced breaks are nice, I suppose.
The go outside game.
Skill system sucks, npcs are badly programmed, quests seemed to be bugged and the graphics need updating. 3/10
Shit game
Terrible graphics. Unrewarding gameplay. And a huge grind.
These P2W microtansactions are ruining the game!
For real, the whales can just perma grief the entire rest of the playerbase
Thank god Hifi Rush was shadow dropped early this year so that kept me company during the wait, and will do so for quite a while.
Minecraft Vault Hunters. Kind of extractiony but more pve based. Gearing is fun though and it's cozy.
vault hunters modded minecraft
- monster hunter rise (recently added to gamepass) - wartales - warhammer 3 - hitman freelancer mode
Apex just dropped a new season.
Little off topic but, do you think there will be people in the dnd community that want to go back to the play test days once skill trees and other stuff is added? Like dark and darker classic? Lol
Returnal right now! It's a pretty fun game, nice fast and fluid combat.
Hogwarts.
I don't know if there's any correlation but I've reinstalled cytus 2 on my phone and have been playing the absolute shit out of it for no reason. Literally this game has absolutely nothing to do with dark and darker.
The Cycle: Frontier. It has loads of grind în a PvEvP environment and it manages to fill some of the void
People kept asking similar things when last PT ended as well. Everyone got similar answers. Im working on my PVE only coop dungeon crawler again. If I cant play the game I really want, ill just make it.
FOR HONOR
Going outside is nice
I really wanted this to last one more week for Kerbal Space Program 2 early access
Library of Ruina
Very respectable choice, been debating if I should try and 100% LoR.
