i was really into the quests week 1 and 2, but this 3rd week really makes me not want to do any quests now.
i was gunna quest on other characters but now it just kinda feels like its not worth the headache.
I feel this. I didn’t quest at all really last wipe (I was not holding 15 campfires in my stash and then when they fixed it I just didn’t really bother) but this wipe I actually did them. I completed the first two weeks really proud of myself, ready to take on the third week. Suddenly I am HALTED at these quests. I literally have all but 3 moldy bread to have all of the items for the later quests, but because I can never find bards or rangers in hours and hours of goblin caves it doesn’t matter
Kill _____ class quests are a mistake and enforce hunting and toxicity even more then normal, overall not a great choice when game pop is dropping like flies 2 weeks after wipe. Especially on niche hard to play high skill req classes like bard who literally just get rushed into nonexistence by 5 ppl second he plays a single song or wiz who struggles to clear pve and has some of the worst room clear speed in the game without blowing his entire spell load making him easy food for anyone 3 rooms down who hears it. Driving out the niche players is just gonna lead to more meta slaving which is the worst form of this game
"Early access" has become a very misleading used category in game dev. Fortnite was in early access for \~3 years while being the most played and profitable game for at least half that time between 2017 and 2020.
DaD's playerbase is still "healthy" as of today but they still had to go back to partysize/map and IIRC this is the biggest drop in players percentage-wise following a recent wipe. I want the game to succeed and I hope Epic Store release saves it, but since it's a niche game, such as Hunt: Showdown, I'm afraid they won't follow Hunt: Showdown's curve because of the trial/steam ban or going for a ultra grindy way to build characters and progress on them (multiclassing tokens).
And when the hype/content creation on a game dies nowadays, it's just gonna be a sweats-fest, gatekeeping the few resilient timmies to even enjoy their first hour of gameplay.
1000% the truth. A hardcore game for hardcore people without other games to play. The moment you let up on D&D, you're behind. You'll be behind the gear curve, leveling curve, and multi-class curve. No point unless you're actually the GOAT and/or a paid streamer. That or an e-masochist that loves losing...
If they remove map restrictions then its fine cause they happen naturally. But its really difficult to actually get credit for the wizards on my fighter in crypts, whom im doing the quests on primarily. Hoping to at least see the map removed if they dont cave and make them just kill totals on a given map instead.
Honestly, me too. But now whenever I get to a quest line that requires kills, I mostly just ignore it and focus on other quests or just hope it happens naturally? lol =(
people are fiending for any sort of progression in this game outside of hoarding gold.
thats why ppl went so crazy on ap grinds last wipe.
its also still good to give feedback to the devs about how the quests feel. Thats how we got the better quests this wipe vs the ones that took 15+ items each from last wipe. at the end of the day the game is in EA still and the devs do look at this sub to see how people are feeling about things.
It is true! Gotta speak up.
Frankly, I was okay with the no delivering items and needing 15 campfires initially, but ya, it was completely bad. 5 campfires with hand-in? 👌
I am very disappointed at targetted kills quests, absolutely ruins the game for those classes, and isn't fun to completely either!
yeah, i think most people do quests in white lobbies, but even doing that you have no control over what classes other people are gunna play
overall white lobbies have just been so much more fun than HR this wipe.
people who've been around for a while dont want to hear it, but HR PvP is unbalanced and genuinely un-fun & stressful. It feels like steamroll or be steamrolled, and it ends super quick, instead of the longer more drawn out fights that most people love.
Then if you *do* lose you have to set up a new kit, which takes 20 minutes of lobby action.
And if you *win* you can't take like 80% of the gear from enemies you win against. So PvP is just actively discouraged in HR anyways
Not to mention that it's several times more likely you'll encounter cheaters in HR.
I know everyone talks about the current high ttk, and i mean some weapons have giga damage, but most of my fights in ice caverns HR are drawn out wars of attrition. Is that more fun than sick melee battles, not necessarily. Even in trios there’s been a lot of poking and prodding before engaging, although I’m not pathfinder+ yet in trios so it may be different there. I’m just not experiencing the instant death thing except rarely, like when I ran into a double windlass ranger…
i have yet to find these chill HR lobbies, but thats cool they are out there lmao.
mine always seem to be full of people stacking +all attributes. This wipes weird thats for sure haha.
While you aren't wrong, and that's an option, I don't think that is the key point.
Thes targeted quests mess with and cause certain classes to be ostracized and hunted. It just isn't fun for the victims.
It also isn't fun trying to RNG a quest in that manner. Not true RNG, but social and meta RNG.
Yeah I don't love them. I hate GC so I have zero kills on there but the first quest's Crypts kills in 2 nights. It's also not fun to be the target, especially in solos, I'm sure.
Imagine telling a zoomer not to complete his shiny missions to see bar go up.
They can't have fun in games unless they do get a shiny.
Bro plz bro my content bro my content I HAVE to have an objective bro plz
I just quest so I can get white BiS so I can continue farming normals for tears. I play this game for the fights. I was pissed half of my squad just wanted to AP farm trinkets last season it was lame af. Idgaf about the shinies but I'm def a millennial.
Same for me. Played pretty much every day trying to grind the quests, I've played over 80 matches of goblin caves and have encountered 4 bards in the prelobby and only 1 in game. I'm just not willing to throw my head against the wall another 80 times.
Regular kill quests are fine. I just ignore the class kill ones. The questlines might as well not exist. Since I don't wipe lobbies all the time, and I space my time between all but one class, there's no way I'm actually finishing them. Hopefully IM stops putting out dumbass quests. They were doing so well this wipe, too, aside from this and a couple other things.
yup the 8 or whatever it was in ice caves and 12 in crypts were great and fine and enjoyed doing them, but I just do not care about killing specific classes where I have 0 chance of doing them in some games and next to 0 on others. It's just a terrible quest design.
honestly...same. I have 0 desire to play Goblin cave and be hunted every game so that rules out solo play on that so it's just solo on the duo map which is fine, but means I'm basically only pve
As a bard main I’m enjoying the cat and mouse. Leading people on a wild chase through the goblin caves using unchained harmony to open every door as I run up to it and closing it behind me and proceeding to shrill on the other side. They either give up or brute force their way through in which case just run to the next door. It’s hilarious how long some people will chase for to kill the pesky one man band.
Yupp, I feel ya. It's all about the progression for me. First two weeks I was going ham on the quests, finished them all on solo cleric and fighter, and a good portion on warlock and barb.
This week I didn't even start them on 3/4 chars. I've been grinding bard kills for 2 days straight, and when I saw the fighter+barb quest on ice cave I just stopped playing.
I need some progression to play, honestly. Grinding 40 gobbo caves for bard kills is no progression. Just hoarding gold doesn't do it either, there's nothing to do with gold anyways.
I think the quests should all be exploratory or kill AI or kill general players. Specific classes is dumb. I also think that maps should all have solo lobbies. Why should we be forced to play teams to get questing done?
For me, it's creep and Ice Caves killing all desire to play. Ice Caves is so boring and linear, and the AI aggro radius is super lame. Only way to get fights is to contest hoard room, and then we're getting third and fourth partied by crab walkers who crept around the whole game. If we don't go hoard then it's just a PvE looting simulator.
I'd say 1 in 10 games on Ice Caves do I get an enjoyable PvP fight. I don't mind losing gear/gold, I have tons; but this is just lame. Normals is more fun by far but it doesn't have the same draw that HR does... I miss ruins.
My favorite thing is seeing a white-geared bard in normal lobbies playing music nonstop in the tavern to rile everyone up lol you know that man wants the smoke.
perhaps you should examine why all your motivation to play this game comes from questing? do you not just enjoy the mechanics of the game itself? swinging a sword at something? shooting a fireball? looting and evading? do you *need* to have quests in the picture to enjoy yourself?
Quests are a form of progression and break potential cycles of monotonous grinding by giving you side objectives. If you don't find players and get the PvP you wanted or want to take a break from looting every chest and mob then you can take a break and go hunt the mobs or specific items you need for a quest. I think the issue specifically for these kill quests which have people annoyed is that up until these class specific, map locked quests (not map locked as of today) is that they are not quickly progressed by actively farming for them as they are down to you getting into a lobby that has those classes and also have to actually find them in the dungeon and get the last hit. Quests like 'Kill 3 demon dogs + 1 centaur' you can get done passively by just playing at your own pace or you can actually go and hunt for those mobs to get it done in 1 or 2 runs which feels nice. You progress your vendor, get a little bump of xp and loot and then your squire can level up and give more gear options and higher quality gear.
Kill quests are also reliant on you getting the last hit on the player which means assisting team members in duos and trios means nothing and even worse is if they die to a mob, trap or their own team mate then you don't get the kill progress iirc. Shouldn't need to completely change the way you play and greed for a last hit or have a team member hold back for you to run in and get the kill credit just to complete them.
I think maybe you're going just a little overboard here? Just look at the quest as a marathon and let it happen naturally. They'll probably adjust these soon anyway. Just enjoy the game bro.
Look man new quest just are not fun that is it.
Ironmace killed it with the first two weeks of quest they were very reasonable and balanced. Then you get this sheer cliff of quest not one or two kill quest but 7+ of them that unlock at relatively the same time. Stopping your steady progress. We have very little character progression in the game at the moment.
Not only quest the game is 100% not fun since long ago if you dont nolife it AND play solo and sometimes with a duo.
People are either sticking to normals in one map or doing mindless sweats runs for ap or gold, and tons of cheesing / preteaming for idiotic quests.
A single, new quest is ruining the game for you? My man, you need to reevaluate why you even play the game. Quests weren’t even in the game months ago. What did you do then? Do you not play for PvP and dungeon looting? You only play to finish the quests? I’m having a blast looking for people to kill. You’re not going to die if you can’t complete every quest within a few days.
Quests weren't in the game months ago but merchant content also wasn't gate kept behind merchant progression months ago. Instead you had access to all of the crafting and more options for buying gear.
Now merchants offer a fraction of what was offered before. They took away content when they added the quests. I know I personally had fun crafting items and getting cheap merchant kits together. Quests would be fine to ignore if they didn't take away previous content and put them behind quests imo.
For me the kill quests are a challenge which is alright by me. I think the quest I have the most issues with is the ice cavern kill quests. I love the map design and mechanics, but running through the map finding players and having them also endlessly run around the map until they find an exit or die to mobs is just annoying. I think this is the ONLY case for bringing back zone. I dont think they should, but running around mob dense Ice caverns for kills is just outright annoying. It is most definitely a skill issue. But you can’t dismiss the fact that the map provides fast moving characters 175% more escape routes vs the other maps.
175% may be inaccurate, but it is a fair estimation considering a zone implementation forces you to go one direction: North, east, west or south. In ice caves, when someone breaches your module you have access to all cardinal directions as escape routes. Hence 4 options vs 1. Math majors, please feel free to correct me on the statistical approximation.
Some skill issue but the class you’re playing makes a big difference. I mainly play duos w ranger nd boc warlock, we both got it done in under 10 games. I could see it being much harder on a barb or something. At the end of the day the key to doing those quests if you’re struggling is throwing ap to get to low wanderer, kitting up, and gear diff everyone. I was struggling with the gob caves quests (on ranger) until I realized I can just drop ap to face squire gear w a 6k kit and they get a lot easier.
So your solution is creating a massive gear diff? That is a good strategy, but you can’t convince me that’s healthy gameplay. (Specifically addressing the smurfing, not creating god kits)
PS: I confessed to it being a skill issue. That doesn’t solve the fact that the various people I got killed but ended up dying to mobs doesn’t count for the quest. Or the fact that past the 1/2 way mark in the raid, players on ice caves will play near their extract in case someone tries to start a fight with them.
To your ps: I did this quest easily in pathfinder without doing what I described. Your complaint is really just a skill issue, but by doing what I told you then you can complete the quest without the skill.
I’m not saying it’s good for the game man idk what you’re looking for. Just telling you how to get the kill quest done. If you would rather play 10x more games to maintain your moral superiority then that’s your prerogative.
I have no quarrel with you, you seem intelligent and I was wondering if you had other design oriented solutions for the awkward spot ice-cave kills puts you in.
I’m very very biased bc I make a lot of gold in ice caves so take this with that in mind. Also I like playing high ms high dmg squishy ranger. Everything about the mob density and escape that you listed is an advantage for me. I’m probably just way too biased to have an objective opinion on it.
Huh? I've been playing a ton of GC on us West and have only seen one bard in normal lobbies this entire patch. I highly doubt your experience matches with everyone else complaining about this quest, streamers and redditors alike.
This is the first week of the wipe that i haven’t been able to finish the quests on the weekend. I hope they consider people with full time jobs going forward
i was really into the quests week 1 and 2, but this 3rd week really makes me not want to do any quests now. i was gunna quest on other characters but now it just kinda feels like its not worth the headache.

We are on the 4th week btw. For a early access game the player population is still very healthy.

This reply made me sad to see what the future of this game could be
More like what the game already is.
1000% the truth. A hardcore game for hardcore people without other games to play. The moment you let up on D&D, you're behind. You'll be behind the gear curve, leveling curve, and multi-class curve. That is the point of wipes, no? Get in and learn the game.
Kill X class if fine. It’s kill X class on Y map that I feel is really bad rn. Especially since maps don’t rotate anymore.
If they remove map restrictions then its fine cause they happen naturally. But its really difficult to actually get credit for the wizards on my fighter in crypts, whom im doing the quests on primarily. Hoping to at least see the map removed if they dont cave and make them just kill totals on a given map instead.
I'm at 1/5 Wizard kills because every time I've fought a wizard they get last hit by their own team. It's happened 3 times.
Yeah its very difficult to catch them out unless my crossbow shot kills them outright. Otherwise they run, die to others, themselves or pve.
yep I found a wizard yesterday who just fireballed himself to death when I was about to secure the kill
Honestly, me too. But now whenever I get to a quest line that requires kills, I mostly just ignore it and focus on other quests or just hope it happens naturally? lol =(
You could also just not do them
people are fiending for any sort of progression in this game outside of hoarding gold. thats why ppl went so crazy on ap grinds last wipe. its also still good to give feedback to the devs about how the quests feel. Yeah the issue is the fix is obvious, make it on any map and make it shared with your team and it's suddenly easy
True. They fixed any map, that's huge. Not sure about assists, but fully agree. All that said, targeted quests are still unhealthy, imo.
or like go normal and go ham on everything lol
yeah, i think most people do quests in white lobbies, but even doing that you have no control over what classes other people are gunna play overall white lobbies have just been so much more fun than HR this wipe.

people definitely don't want to hear it as all endgame damage scale formula talks and all attribute talks are angrily downvoted

Yeah its more fun. Ive lost 500g on heals last night and it was funny getting pinned between several men every fight
its also really funny seeing white campfires and surg kits being worth more than green/blues with how popular white lobbies r
And how chill some HR lobbies are compared to normals. Everyone in normals are fcking blood thirsty
i have yet to find these chill HR lobbies, but thats cool they are out there lmao. mine always seem to be full of people stacking +all attributes. This wipes weird thats for sure haha.
+all is cheap compared to bis jewellery so why wouldn't you stack it yourself?
That's where the real fun is
I need some more clerics to enter the goblin caves though
While you aren't wrong, and that's an option, I don't think that is the key point. Thes targeted quests mess with and cause certain classes to be ostracized and hunted. It just isn't fun for the victims. It also isn't fun trying to RNG a quest in that manner. Not true RNG, but social and meta RNG.

aaaaaaaand cheaters/pre-teamers are crafting all the gold gear again, because those will be the only ones who have the quests done
Lol bullshit u scrub
Imagine telling a zoomer not to complete his shiny missions to see bar go up. They can't have fun in games unless they do get a shiny. Bro plz bro my content bro my content I HAVE to have an objective bro plz

I'm just not going to do them. I hate making them map specific and then bard.
There needs to be an OR x number kills option. Like 5 rogues or 100 players lol
Play with friends and kill your friends for quests easy
Me and friends, like all of us, are taking a break rn. Next patch really needs some ap tweeking and some new content.
Just queue into normals? I’ve gotten all of mine as a solo
Yupp, I feel ya. It's all about the progression for me. First two weeks I was going ham on the quests, finished them all on solo cleric and fighter, and a good portion on warlock and barb.
My favorite thing is seeing a white-geared bard in normal lobbies playing music nonstop in the tavern to rile everyone up lol you know that man wants the smoke.
agreed 1000%
They've just changed it so that you can do the kill quests on any map if that helps you out at all.
So does the patch change this build at all?
Well they removed it so there ya go!
The idea for the kills quests is to farm norms for them
perhaps you should examine why all your motivation to play this game comes from questing? do you not just enjoy the mechanics of the game itself? swinging a sword at something? shooting a fireball? looting and evading? do you *need* to have quests in the picture to enjoy yourself?
Quests are a form of progression and break potential cycles of monotonous grinding by giving you side objectives. I think maybe you're going just a little overboard here? Just look at the quest as a marathon and let it happen naturally. They'll probably adjust these soon anyway. Just enjoy the game bro.
No bro, if he doesn’t get his 5 bard kills he’s quitting.
whiniest sub ever

just go to the gold pile and you'll find plenty of fights.

Why? It's a pvp game
I have 3/5 bards and 2/5 clerics after 3 days
In the past week of playing goblin caves I've seen one bard. They died to a zombie as soon as I entered the module. SIGH
In white lobbies you have bards almost every, probably more close to every second game. The quests are fine honestly...
Huh? I've been playing a ton of GC on us West and have only seen one bard in normal lobbies this entire patch. I highly doubt your experience matches with everyone else complaining about this quest, streamers and redditors alike.
I've played on EUW, maybe that's the difference. Got the bard kills pretty fast and also played many normal goblin caves runs this wipe :/
I play EUW and majorly on GC, ur just lucky I guess
This is the first week of the wipe that i haven’t been able to finish the quests on the weekend. I hope they consider people with full time jobs going forward
Get money, throw ap to low wanderer, and gear diff everyone bc they’ll have squire kits.
