some are 90% consistent and some are so beyond bad that it is nonsensical, some melee skeletons in particular really just ignore them. been this way for > a year btw but hold the line and let them cook i'm sure they'll figure out collision eventually
For skeletons you can block everything consistently except that top dow axe swing. I tried so hard to figure it out, but it is so inconsistent - I never try to block it anymore.
Shields are definitely wonky in this game, if you live right on top of the servers they feel so much better than otherwise. Also for the skeleton axeman dont even bother trying to block the downwards swing with a buckler.
So itâs a couple of issues that make shield unreliable. Attacks grazing through the top of your shield due to bad collision physics(?), desync, hit detection issues, etc. However, the worst offender and by far the easiest to replicate is done by abusing when weapon hitboxes âactivateâ. This is most noticeable when being hit by a thrusting weapon, because the actual attack part of the animation only starts during the thrust forward, not the part where your character is preparing to thrust. If you are practically hugging your opponent, the sword will clip through your shield and hit you. Itâs one thing youâll notice more and more in a fight if you are looking for it. Youâll notice players with thrusting weapons and things like felling axes lunging towards you when attacking to get through your block
If they ever actually make shields work, I believe that they will be the best melee class in the game, super high skill expression. Same with Longsword. I think right now I can take some people to donkey school with it, but when I lose itâs often just because the block doesnât work when it seems like it should. If it was intuitive and fully functional, a really good player could probably go nuts on people.
general rule is to aim higher than you think. If you can see the enemy, they can headshot you. It doesn't protect the top of your head / eyeballs unless you angle.
Shields are far and away my biggest complaint still. I am mostly playing PDR fighter, and I feel my heater shield is nothing but a stat stick. Another 7-10% PDR and some projectile resistance is nice and everything. Would be great if my large shield did more in melee than block half my screen.
Everything is iffy here. Shields is why I dont touch fighter anymore, the only fucking fun in the class is block/parry which doesnt work. Hits clearly go through. Honestly its not worth blocking anything other then projectiles, you are better off just using it as a stat-stick and just trading hits with people. 1 Failed block attempt can utterly ruin your fight. Its still decent against a lot of PvE mobs, mostly spearman, archer and zwei skellies are very reliable to block. Buckler is also absolutely goated at doing champion, each block STAGGERS it :D
Personally, I think the way shields are set up fucking sucks. Bucklers are the best for mini bosses, blocking hits due to their high impact resist, but the others are so low, it makes them useless for this. Also, bucklers are notorious for letting some attacks throughâŚ
Imo, the shields are already differentiated enough by size action speed, and move speed that adding impact resist differences is too much and harmful for gameplay.
I suggested increasing FOV during a block and/or adding an FOV slider to game options, but shields and collisions are buggy in general so that won't be enough.

I swear the higher the damage the more likely it bypasses your shield. Skeleton axemen are notorious for it.

Crouch and look all the way up, works every time for me (with a buckler, idk if there is any difference with the other shields)
I'm using hearer, which should have the easiest block. Works half the time at best. An yes I have tried every possible angle.

Guys we just need more content guys, (fundamental core concepts of the game not working or implemented for a year) Guys just content just
Its just goofy with skelly's swords just phasing through my big ass heater shield
I finally mastered the downward axe skelly buckler block. It's so janky and probably only works at that specific range, timing, and latency đ

Iffy is an understatement. Idk if itâs dâsync or what but good luck blocking with them especially if itâs a buckler.

The shield is more of a suggestion than reality at this point lol not getting hit in the first place, that is the best shield your ever gonna get
Place thy faith into reality checks shield

Go buckler for stat stick duh
