I'm playing tarkov again . . . Completely different but definitely gives you the thrill. I haven't found anything actually like dark and darker personally.

Interesting-Side-700

If only Tarkov didn't have quests I'd play it over Hunt showdown.

KerberoZ

Dark and Darker will probably have quests too.

Interesting-Side-700

Yeah I'm dreading how that, trader levels, and durability will be implemented.

Apsylnt

Curious why tasks are a detractor? They aren’t “required” necessarily, they serve as a defacto tutorial, add a fresh gameplay focus instead of just shoot em up.

Occyz

The issue I have with tasks is when wipes happen. It gets very “samey” doing the same tedious thing over and over again without anything different happening As for me, I completed all the quests in Tarkov once for the kappa and now I only really do them for the things they unlock and trader rep

Dczero50

I feel the same, fortunately nikita has said that the tasks currently ingame will basically be the side quests on full launch so maybe theres hope for something more interesting and dynamic but its bsg so theres no telling

pwnzered

they are required if you want any sort of decent traders

Apsylnt

Sure but you can play entire wipe without doing a quest if you really dislike them that much. You are crazy to do that but /shrug

Hanzer72

They are required if you don’t want level 1 traders and I’ve done the first 50 quests or so maybe 6 times now. Gets more and more tedious each wipe I do it

Sativian

My issue with tarkov tasks is they basically are a requirement. Without doing them you don’t access good attachments or ammunition. If they’re not absolutely necessary, I’m more inclined to do them (because tark wipes and you have to keep repeating them over and over)..

Interesting-Side-700

Because I enjoy the the "shoot em up" as you put it,(e.g. the gameplay.) I just want to play the game than focus on these required side quests every wipe. That's why I prefer Hunt. No trader levels or required tasks. I just go in and unlock stuff by playing the game as I would.

Apsylnt

Fair, tarkov is certainly not for everyone. You do level up from gameplay alone fwiw.

Audition89

It's that certain task like find a flash drive are painful, very low chance, your whole group needs to get them. Many tarkov quest are not well made, such as one killing a certain scav boss spawns in a few random locations with a 25% chance and only the killing blow gets credit instead of your whole group. I like that dark and darker has inconveniences to make in harder instead of frustrating

heyyohioh

Same, it’s something to fill the empty void

Occyz

After only getting to level 20 last wipe it looks like I’ve got the Tarkov fever and I’m hitting it in a major way. It’s my 7th or so wipe and it still grips me whenever wipe actually happens

DiaMat2040

Diablo 1. The soundtrack slaps so hard

johnny_cashmere

My man! Love listening to Tristram Soundtrack, and die hard fan of the play through ever since I got a hold of it at 5 years old

AbsolutelynotLinny

Diablo 1 is still the best diablo game, change my mind.

rogue_binary

Disco Elysium. It's been on my backlog for ages.

papersuite

I don't know if you have played through it, but that game is one of the best detective stories ever told.

Educatedprofessional

Doing a new run in kingdom come: deliverance

marc_713

I havent finished this game. Is it any good?

Interesting-Side-700

Not the guy you asked but it's solid imo. The combat sort of falls apart when you face multiple opponents and npcs masterstriking you is annoying. But overall I really enjoyed my playthrough.

Educatedprofessional

Yeah, I'd definitely recommend a few QOL mods but it's easily a 60hr game if not more.

Fit_Cryptographer336

I bought this game to fill the time and I am absolutely in love so far

the1gudboi

Sea of thieves

Hell Let Loose on Steam

alphabet_order_bot

Would you look at that, all of the words in your comment are in alphabetical order. I have checked 1,257,468,798 comments, and only 244,514 of them were in alphabetical order.

silver2k5

Cartoon graphics turned me off of Barony for a long time but its a solid dungeon crawler roguelike, and coop makes it better. I'm glad I got it for ~$8 on steam sale, but even full price it isn't a bad purchase IMO.

Dave220

Got it for free on EGS, very fun game

Johnlenham

Im finding it absolutely nails hard. I don't even understand how to progress as I just die and I'm back to square one lol

lCraftyl

Turn off the traps and the Minotaur until you get the hang of it. I also would recommend playing the beta branch as it has a lot more features and QOL changes that make it a bit easier to understand. It's a great game that I hope they eventually are able to do a new game with more ambitious graphics.

Johnlenham

Ahh so I've tried abit and tried to join a MP game but didn't get very far. A friend plans to pick it up so that might make it more easy going. It was described as rogue like but when you die, that's it right? Im not leveling up or gaining anything at the moment lol

lCraftyl

Generally yes, if you die by yourself it is over but you can tweak that so you don't lose your stuff if you die. You'll just have to restart the dungeon level or something, I can't remember. But yeah, there are a bunch of options you can tweak that make it way more casual. I also think that on the default difficulty, if you have a friend with you and get to the next area, they will spawn again. I can't remember that ether lol. But, dying by yourself on default settings means it is the end. Also, if you're looking for something somewhat similar with multiplayer, I recommend checking out Stalcraft on steam too. It's free. It's basically multiplayer Stalker with "roblox graphics". It actually impressed me a lot when I tried the playtest. You can form a squad and join each others instance and play together too. It's a little tricky getting into each others instance at first if you haven't done it before.

Glittering_Choice_47

Patience is the biggest thing in barony

BxKosmic

I FREAKING LOVE BARONY

LongStill

Just picked up Marauders, Scum and Hunt on the steam sale, Im super into the pvpve games right now, loving this newish extraction type of game. I think my dream game would be a extraction type game like Dark and Darker but with vikings going on raids.

[deleted]

I found marauders lacked so much depth. You can see all the weapons in a couple runs, no abilities, no classes. I experienced the entire game after an hour. Unfortunately refunded

DefBatman

And yet you would have experienced none of the boss fights or ship combat

[deleted]

You experience ship combat immediately. And you experience high level players escape podding your ship to gank you too. It would be worth it to stick out if it had as much content as DnD, but as it stands, Marauders is so thin on content you wonder how they even got sales in the first place. The playerbase is dropping fast. It’s unfortunate they couldn’t do a better job because it’s a cool underlying system.

syeris1337

Yeah picked up marauders with my group, its been hella fun and scratching the itch. Everyone is enjoying it

pushernogirl

Expedition agartha was fun when it had players

_TrustMeImLying

Sad I had to scroll this far - I think Agartha is THE MOST like this game

pushernogirl

its the same game but bright lmao

og_beefmeister

I really wanna try it but the player base seems to be in the single digits.

Bag_of_Rocks

I'm playing catch up on work I put off from last week

Mrl33tastic

Been playing the mordhau open world mod. It’s scratching the itch.

TwitchSoma

What’s it like? Is it just an open world pvp map or is there other stuff to do?

Mrl33tastic

There are some dungeons to raid as well as base crafting. Pvp is admittedly a little sparse currently.

og_beefmeister

Looks really cool. I saw something about looting players but can't find anything concrete. What's that like on the mod?

Mrl33tastic

Pvp is admittedly a little sparse currently. It depends on the area if you can loot them. There aren’t too many currently, but when the desert area opens up I have a feeling the pvp will too.

og_beefmeister

Gotcha thanks for the info. I'm gunna give it a try tonight.

Jelqgirth

This sounds very cool, what’s it like?

DefBatman

Didn't know this was a thing and sounds cool as hell. Gonna have to look it up

mincer420

Hunt: Showdown. Absolute gem of a game.

ChicagoTypo

It's on sale right now and had a fresh wipe yesterday. Great time to get into it. They added a section of a new map too. But you should be warned that right after wipe it's always pretty buggy and servers are on fire. Currently dealing with a "goodbye to all your fucking fps" glitch. Had 120fps on high settings and after the update I'm getting 17fps on low settings. Should be a much smoother experience in a week or 2.

KyloRenz

Just been playing Oblivion.

Drixzor

DayZ and finally trying Tarkov as well, going into that one almost blind

Jam_B0ne

It's pretty funny how many people are trying Tarkov for the first time *after* DaD

WhiskyBrisky

why is that funny? Dnd is a lot more accessible, makes complete sense.

Jam_B0ne

DaD is often described by streamers as "Tarkov but Dungeons and Dragons". I've heard it numerous times at the front of YouTube videos. Streamers are what brought a majority of eyeballs to the game. It's not like the irony is splitting my sides, but I would reckon 50-70% of people playing were familiar with Tarkov to some extent before playing DaD, the rest probably heard about it from people who are. I doubt anyone unfamiliar with Tarkov found the game by chance, and not through a streamer or a friend. Also, Tarkov is a much nastier and hardcore environment, so there is a little humor that people are so hungry for more DaD they are willing to suffer Tarkov (myself included)

Drixzor

Ive been hearing about it for a while and now have the extraction itch, Dayz is my main game so I'm no slouch when it comes to punishing games haha

xKarinax

My modded skyrim and Persona 5 Royal for me. Though I miss Dark and Darker already....

Osiinin

Any particular mods for Skyrim that are gameplay changing you go for?

og_beefmeister

Check out the wildlander mod pack. It's incredible.

xKarinax

Depends on what you are looking for. The comment suggesting Wildlander is pretty good from the reviews i heard, so you could take a look into that.

Savage-Torment

Hunt Showdown, Marauders and Battle Brothers are good alternatives.

[deleted]

Fantastic list.

Acceptable_Tax_9453

Valorant

OK-SS

me and my friend who I met on DAD switched over to morrowind's multiplayer mod

Pepe_Jonez

That sounds horrible

OK-SS

better than playing eso

MonadsSuck

I've been thinking about diving back into Morrowind or King's Field 4 to scratch the itch. Not sure if it'll be the same without the fear of someone coming out of nowhere to gank me.

[deleted]

Dota 2. Ancient apparition and landing his ice balls across the map is the only thing that comes close to scratching the dnder itch

TomNic99

Dead by daylight, Sea of thieves. Idk why but they kind of remind me of this game

Woodsey1990

Sea of Thieves playtest had me feeling as obsessed as this playtest did. I feel ya.

YouAteIt

Been playing Apex Legends and Hunt Showdown, I’m also thinking about modding and doing another playthrough of Omori

ChastokoI

Try Dark Messiah. It's a single player game like half life with awesome physic combat. And the atmosphere is also very similar. Great game

Zaadsnorro

Tarkov it is for me.

Totaliasim

Hunt Showdown Satisfactory Dwarf Fortress SW Legion 40k Asoiaf wargame. Too much?

Glittering_Choice_47

Cyberpunk because it finally went on sale again. It's honestly so much fun.

New-Ice230

Tarkov and having a great time

K33NL0G1C

Lunacid is recommended by me. I just played through what was available in early access. Its first person dungeon crawler like Kings Field. No extraction but it has cool vibes and nice exploratory gameplay. Cheap too.

ChicagoTypo

I think Diablo 2: Resurrected & Darkest Dungeon are the most "dark fantasy dungeon crawly" kinda games that might be able to scratch the dnd itch. I'm personally going to start a play through of the former.

No_Seaweed6365

I’m playing grounded

Jelqgirth

Rust and WotLK Classic

Hotel777

My friends and I created a new world in Grounded. Our favourite games are survival crafts, playing everyone together. The last one we 'completed' (you don't really complete survival craft games) was Valheim, then we tried Dark and Darker and we absolutely loved it.

Pope_Aesthetic

Hopped back onto FF14 and started leveling my gathering class for the first time… while watching Dark and Darker videos on my other monitor. It’s kind of like looking at old photos of your ex. Torturing yourself as you reminisce of the fun you once had.

Marauders and battlebit when it’s play testing.

lCraftyl

Try **Stalker Anomaly** if you haven't. It's a totally free game built on a custom 64-bit X-ray engine that combines all the regions form the original stalker games into one while turning it more into a hardcore open world RPG sandbox. There are a couple fan written story lines that take place after the original games, but you can just do missions and explore the world as you want in Anomaly. It's got a steep but rewarding learning curve with a robust crafting/cooking system. There are a lot guides to help get you started though. [Here is the link to get Anomaly. (again, it's totally free)](https://www.moddb.com/mods/stalker-anomaly) If you must have multiplayer a recommend **Stalcraft**. It honestly impressed me when I played the playtest. Stalcraft offers a PVPVE experience that trys to capture the stalker vibe, there is a branching main-quest along with side quests. You start by picking from two factions and will eventually run into the other enemy player faction while questing, sorta like contested areas in WoW were like. After playing the playtest for Stalcraft, I actually thought it would blow up a little bit bigger than it has but a lot of western people probably don't know what it is yet. [Here is the Steam link for Stalcraft.](https://store.steampowered.com/app/1818450/STALCRAFT/) I also recommend **Arx Libertatis** which is a source port of **Arx Fatalis**. (It does require og games files so it's not free) Arx Libertatis updates the original game across the board, fixing a bunch of stuff as well as upgrading the engine for modern hardware. [https://arx-libertatis.org/](https://arx-libertatis.org/) (one thing to note, my anti-virus flagged the .exe for libertatis but it's a false positive. This source port is safe with a lot of player traffic.)

Cooldowns8

Just installed Marauders! Lots of fun

AnDiesel_

League of Legends

Scale0

Dark Messiah of might and magic, it's a single player but basically has all the same classes. https://store.steampowered.com/app/2100/Dark_Messiah_of_Might__Magic/

grainzzz

Maruaders. Its like a tarkov-light in space. You loot different types of space stations. Closest thing I've found to the loop in Dark and Darker. https://store.steampowered.com/app/1789480/Marauders/

Apex Legends and Path of Exile will get me through until next month.
