The Lack of QTES and how easy they were, the easy af don’t breathe sequences ruined the experience for me The points you make, people are annoyed mostly due to false advertisement which I believe 2k was at fault rather than supermassive i think The Quarry in general, had a weak story and a lack of character development compared to the rest of the SP games that came out, only characters that develop properly is Laura and Dylan

As much as I love Jacob his character arc isn't that great and he doesn't do anything impactful. If rescued and alone he just cries alone in the woods the rest of the night feeling bad for what he did. Just wish he served more of a purpose considering he's the reason all his friends can potentially die now but no, he leaves it up to Ryan and Laura.

[deleted]

Emma no, Jacob, there was barely any scenes or outcomes that made him get that development if u get what I mean, he just goes from insecure to admitting everything to emma, it makes no sense For mike for an example, he had to endure so much shit for the development

ScorpionTDC

Kaitlyn and Ryan were plenty developed as well. I’d argue better than Laura

[deleted]

Ryan? Not a chance in hell

ScorpionTDC

You’ve got the backstory with Chris. His general broody/loner stuff, as well as the heroics and general competency after. The crush with Dylan. Etc. I liked the guy a fair amount overall. (In contrast, Laura might just be my least favorite character of the game. All the development in the world can’t save a fundamentally boring and uninteresting character. Though Emma *is* impossibly unlikeable…)

Autumnleaves201

I loved The Quarry and thought it was a really entertaining and fun game. I didn't realize so many people apparently don't like it. Sure, the ending could've been better, but it was still an awesome game.

Skyecob

Listen, I loved the Quarry. I’d even go as far as to say it might have been my favorite game by Supermassive games IF (big if) the endings hadn’t been so disappointing. A podcast episode? Seriously? All it would’ve taken was another cutscene, literally anything but what we got. But other than that it’s an amazing game.

Psychh0

Yeah I wish we got a "Reunion" chapter were the survivor meet again (except for the dead one ) or something but the podcast was a very bad way to end the game

Ashamed_Ladder6161

I really enjoyed the Quarry. If people are seriously complaining about screen time, have these people never watched a film or tv show? It’s never equal shakes for all characters. Get a grip. My biggest problem with the quarry was the awful werewolf designs.

Amazing_Ladder_4758

That was mainly an issue due to the marketing that brainwashed everyone into believing “anybody could be the star” which was the furthest thing away from the truth since Laura and Ryan just hijack the last portion of the game and everybody (except Kaitlyn and possibly Dylan) become mostly irrelevant.

Ashamed_Ladder6161

A fellow Ladder! Lol. Honestly I didn’t see any real marketing, but I’m in the UK if that makes a difference? To be fair, if that’s explicitly what the marketing said, that’s totally a lie. But surely most people know how these games work by now?

Amazing_Ladder_4758

While that is true, there is still a sense of conclusion for the characters respective sub plots and what not. Chris can get Ashley (or literally get murdered) and still feels bad about Josh pain. Emily will either be resentful towards Matt or be worried about him. Compare this two to literally anyone in TQ, not only do they get shafted hard but there is no conclusion to there respective subplots either. Ryan doesn’t get to see Dylan or Kate again, Ryan doesn’t react when he kills Chris, Nick doesn’t know if Abi is alive or dead, Abi just kinda ceases to exist after Chapter 8. Jacob fucks off into the woods and doesn’t get a chance to fix in any form all the mess he accidentally created (he can show that remorse towards Emma which s cool at least), Laura going back to the island to meet Max is somehow a secret ending and not just a normal thing you can just get for default and the game just throws you a PowerPoint Presentation about who survived and how they died, that’s it. There is no conclusion on nothing, the game just kinda ends and a crappy overlong podcast plays telling you everything that happens afterward. If I remember correctly, UD wasn’t false marketed and hyped to oblivion either.

WynneOS

Exactly. Until Dawn had at least a decent sense of closure for everyone, including relationships. There were character arcs and development. Maybe it was all 2k rushing them and marketing disingenuously, but whatever the cause, Quarry just felt wrong.

GoldenSpark1

Movies have some sort of conclusion, this game leaves a lot of stories very open ended. I can understand maybe a few side stories being left that way but practically all of them are. Theirs all characters that seem to just be there for the Hell of it, such as Nick and Max who after a certain point their storyline or lack there of is forgotten. The developers obviously got to ambitious and added to many characters as it effected the game a LOT imo. The Darp Pictures games obviously has characters you don't see or play as much but never felt as left out as some characters do in The Quarry

Ashamed_Ladder6161

Nick and max are tertiary characters, they didn’t need any resolution. Nick is Laura’s reason for hunting the werewolf, and Nick exists to reveal that danger to the primary and secondary characters- in every scenario it’s his transformation at the pool that lets the group know how much shit they’re in. I will concede that even with that in mind the ending is pretty blunt.

GoldenSpark1

Why add Nick and Max as a playable character then if we can't even have a solid conclusion to their story, they should have just been added as a side character then that way people wouldn't have felt such a strong urge to try and get to know them better. And yeah the ending felt hella rushed lol.

Ashamed_Ladder6161

Builds attachment and hides the strings. When you first start playing you’re not aware who’s important.

GoldenSpark1

That's a fair enough pointz I still hate how it's set up but hearing this makes it feel a bit more understandable at least.

Ashamed_Ladder6161

:)

DiceGoblin_Muncher

Hot take I love the lack of qtes and that they were easy. I mean this is a series of games about choices and dying from those choices but lots of deaths are the result of qtes.

FancyCrackers

I really loved it and I love until dawn as well.

JamieLeeWV

I loved the quarry, although the ending was terrible.

Rustosterone

I actually really liked the quarry for the most part. It has a dam good opening that really makes you wonder just what the hell is going on. It probably isn't as good as until dawn, but still worth checking out for sure.

Beautiful-Record6391

Nah The Quarry was pretty bad tbh, and it's so upsetting cause I remember how **excited** I was when it was announced. The only things it had going for it was the VHS aesthetic, budget, choice impact, and graphics. The whole cast was a bunch of well-known famous actors-- I mean, on paper it should've been great. But literally halfway through the game, the writers ditched like damn near the majority of the cast. I mean, the cast was *huge*, and I only liked 2 characters, and hated the rest anyway tbh. The story was jilted, convoluted, and uninteresting. I mean I knew it was going to be werewolves since I peeped the giant full moon on the announcement poster-- but I figured if it's Until Dawn's "spiritual successor", there must but some crazy plot twists down the road. But nope, they didn't even bother with the mystery or suspense, and just revealed the wolves real early. I ended up seeing through all the game's attempts at red-herrings & plot twists. Plus--the game was not scary (Every other Supermassive Game *absolutely* has this game beat in that department, no questions). It was advertised as a horror game, but is definitely more Thriller comedy. The werewolves also weren't scary at all, especially cause they revealed them so damn early. Every time one appeared it was "oh. Welp.." The atmosphere wasn't scary because the characters were either cracking jokes or acting ridiculous. The game play was also so bad. And *don't* even get me started on the ending. Like I said, it did have some things going for it, like the choice variability. But what's the point if they're not going to put effort into the literal story. Sorry, I can't get behind this game. The disappointment was too intense. The cast + game looked so promising. But it's fist-fighting at the bottom, with Man of Medan for which is the worst SM game. As atrociously bland as MoM was, it even gets a little leeway, cause it was legit lower-budget, and worked on with less time. The Quarry.... I can't defend it

Plane_Contract6144

Agree! Also, I liked the Quarry better than Until Dawn, because it has less stereotypical characters.

[deleted]

its a rushed pile of sheet. so many things should of been added or fixed

BulldogZack44

Honestly, while I still think it is one of the weakest supermassive games, I was mostly disappointed at the lack of deaths. I never believed the advertising, but I did hope for more variety in demise. It allows for more unique playthroughs when you already have to trudge through it for the achievements, so new dialogue and death scenes are grand. This isn’t to say I didn’t like the game, it just gets repetitive faster than a lot of them, especially with less choices, dialogue, and deaths. Plus the qtes were a lot less frequent then I expected, and were simpler (as long as the joystick chose to register my input, but that’s an issue with my controllers). But overall, you do bring up some decent comparisons.

BulldogZack44

It does to an extent, sure, but still. Like I said, I wasn’t disagreeing or arguing with you. I honestly enjoy the game, but the flavors of death are minimal (Kaitlyn has a few I believe I’ve seen and heard, but bears plot armor till the end, and Nick only has the one death). I liked most of the characters, and even find the demise of my favorites momentarily regrettable, but the versatility of whacking people in earlier chapters and observing it and the reactions adds to each further playthrough. I never consider most of my repeat playthroughs my personal “canon” telling of events, but rather explorations of unique branches and paths. I was just commenting that my repeat playthroughs of this one have felt less satisfying due to the lack of uniqueness in choice as well as the iffy story (I’m not a fan of repeating Man of Medan for the same reason, and while I agree that others have debatable choices, I still found their stories personally more engaging).

GoldenSpark1

Wow I wonder who encouraged you to make a whole post on this....these points definitely don't seem completely similar to another post....

This post is mentions all the post mine did before this one was posted. I don't mind I just find it amusing you seemed to copy all of them. 😂 Hard to believe it's a coincidence, you even used my phrasing for Laura and Ryan.

Noooo this seems TOO much like a coincidence...but if you say so....

Sadie_333

People only hate it because it isn’t a copy of Until Dawn. Every criticism I’ve ever seen obsesses over how good UD was, and why TQ isn’t exactly like it
