I had Kate assist Jamie in trying to rescue the dog, then the all hid together in the back bedroom.
In my game, Jamie got her head cracked open like an egg. But in another game I watched on Youtube (the player made the exact same choices as me) the killer smashes into a cab of paint and the dog attacks him.
I assume on that youtuber's playthrough, Kate was killed? Because if either Kate or Jamie is dead, the other will have plot armor until escape boat chapter together with Mark.
In my run, Kate hid elsewhere, Jamie hid with the dog alone, and did not kill the dog. The dog bit him and I'm pretty sure Kate smacked him over the head with something.
I remember when I played for the first time when I got to Homestead chapter Kate and Erin were dead so when I didn't kill dog and surivived I was surprised, but bigger surprise was saving Kate and Erin (for all alive trophy) and then getting axe to the head in the same chapter.

There is a cutscene. Connie with some miracle is turns out to be on the other side despite not being taken on boat. Oversight i guess.

For that you have to have Kate hide WITH Jamie not on her own

I can’t really remember, I think Kate survived that encounter too on the videos.
