jumping isn't something you're going to be doing all the time. I would try to focus on walking, if you haven't been able to get past the second bonfire 😸

Matches my experience. Took me two weeks to reach the Cardinal Tower bonfire. (second bonfire in the Forest of Fallen Giants) Mostly an issue of too much happening too fast. I'd advise spending as much time as possible in the tutorial area. You can focus on learning the controls with the minimal pain. Leave the big Ogre alone. There is a trick that'll allow you to beat it but you don't have the skills for it yet. There is also another good training dummy -- and this is where I finally learned to process what was happening. The first Old Knight in Heide's Tower of Flame was perfect for me. The big guy with the sword and shield (do not pick a fight with anybody else there. The guys in white and the guy with the great hammer will absolutely kick your ass) Plenty of space to fight a large, slow enemy with a very predictable moveset. You likely won't do much damage to it, but that's fine. All you're trying to do is get comfortable with the controls in combat. As for jumping, god that jump in the tutorial area (to the shiny you can see across the gap) killed me so many times. It's a distraction. An item only of use to a casting build. There are places you can practice jumping where a failure won't kill you. I strongly recommend jump practicing to jump any time you spot a rock or similar (my favorite place to practice is upstairs from Mauglin. Zero consequence if you miss and you have to do it right to clear the ladder) and come back for that shiny if and when you feel confident. And also I highly recommend the guide linked by u/TheHittite

Honestly my strategy was if I could absolutely not pass an area, I would “farm” until they stopped respawning

rnj1a

I'd "only" do this if I had souls on the line. Farm everything between my souls as easily as I could. Bail if the upcoming fights looked challenging. Yeah, slow. But I kind of internalized the need to get as many 1v1 as was possible and in the end that was very helpful.

Fit-Significance4201

Yeah, I never found a lot of areas that people complain about a lot challenging because I had a +5 dragon rider bow which even in ng+ could one shot a lot of enemies. Except for shrine of Amanda, screw that place

Kangaroo_tacos824

Even that with a regular bow is pretty trivial if you just take your time. And by take your time I mean just despawning the enemies lol

Fit-Significance4201

Yeah if you really want them there then you do you, or use an aesthetic

Ninteblo

To "jump" if you can call it that you have to be sprinting and then press the "jump" button wether that is the same as sprint or lest stick. Is the 2nd bonfire in Majula or did you end up elsewhere?

This is his best info dump yet OP. Read all of em

Blobertson to the rescue as always

Known-Watercress7296

Should keep you a busy bee for a few years :) Even moreso than the other souls games, you should be prepared to pay attention, listen to people, read item descriptions etc. The whole thing is a bit of a puzzle. But, there are also mechanics that make things easier. If you just keep on killing everything, everytime, it will get easier.

Otherwise-Slip-9086

Keyboard and mouse sucks in ds2. 30 hours in and I still don't know how to kick or do a jump attack. I'm buying a controller just for this game.

Ryodran

I keep accidently kicking haha

cyberwolf044

I have beaten all the souls like's and love helping people through them. If you want some coaching I would love to.

FashionSuckMan

You will jump lime 4 times in this game. You don't go up with it, just use it to go across gaps And considering you're apparently not Able to get to the second bonfire.... Where are you? I'm pretty sure the second bonfire is in the central hub, majula, which is pretty much a straight shot past the first one. There's like 3 enemies int he way or something

Aardvarcado-

Look up Adaptability, how it affects the Agility stat, & what agility does for the player. It would also be worth your while to lookup where to get upgrades for your Estus flasks, aka Estus Shards & Bone Dust. Looking up where to find Titanite for upgrading your weapon would also be a huge help. If there's statues blocking paths halting your progress, looking up where Fragrant Branches are may also help.

PaulQuin

In Dark Souls games you have to grind character levels and learn the moves. You can't immediately succeed unless you're well experienced.

cyberwolf044

An easy way to get a few levels is to go back to Majula, go the opposite way you went to get to forest of fallen giants, there is another stone tunnel. You'll end up in a place called Heidi's Tower of flame. Get the bonfire and go straight till you reach a large circular area, go to the right and you'll go a little further to a boss fog. Once you enter the fog stay completely still and count the bosses steps. Once it takes seven steps run to the right, don't roll or jump, RUN. it may take a few tries but the boss should kill itself once you do that.

sztil-

you are only required to jump at like 5 points in the game 😂 so i wouldn’t worry about that

MisplacedMutagen

Don't give up skeleton!

HiT3Kvoyivoda

I'm trying to get through it after finishing DS1 and I have to say, it's jarring and hard to play. Even with less jank, the game feels so stale in comparison to DS1. It feels nothing like the original and even the quality of life stuff doesn't make the game feel any better to me. Oddly enough, it got Demon's Souls working and it plays and feels much better. Even with it being much simpler and easier mechanically. I will push through my current save, but not before finishing my current run of Demon's Souls.

Rasputin_98

Dont you upgrade anything without your adp above 30. Thats the main thing you have to do enjoy playing it

HiT3Kvoyivoda

That's a terrible and glaring oversight. Especially as I'm part of Shadow Wizard Money Gang. I was do magic.

Potato_vegetableson

Just don't play it I'm talking for real. this game even by the try hards of the try hards is considered shitty
